Sea Kayaking

When visiting Barra why not join one of our guided sea kayaking trips and explore a world of beautiful islands, deserted white beaches and sheltered bays. Sea kayaking appeals to people of all ages, and no previous experience is necessary.

As we slip quietly by in our sea kayaks we may catch a glimpse of dolphins, porpoise and basking sharks. We will meet the island resident seals, otters, and a fantastic array of birds.

We believe in staying warm and dry: so forget about capsizing. Our sea kayaks are comfortable, roomy and designed to remain upright. You will quickly discover that it is easy to paddle your own sea kayak and in no time you will be confident and in control.

Sit on Top Kayak Adventures

Come and join in the fun on one of our sit on top kayak adventures. Sit on top kayaks are great fun to paddle, easy to climb on and off and are a great way to explore the bay. For the young at heart. No experience required. Wetsuits provided. You may well get wet!

Coasteering Adventures

Join our guides and discover the excitement of coasteering. Climb, scramble & swim your way around the coastline of Barra. We have discovered some fantastic stretches of coastline, ideal for coasteering. With cliffs of all height to jump off, caves to explore, cliffs to climb and channels to swim you really will explore the wild side of the Hebrides. The ultimate coastal adventure. Wetsuits, buoyancy aids & helmets provided. You will get wet!!

Dunard Hostel

We welcome individuals, families and organised groups. The hostel is open at all times and you are free to come and go as you please.

Dunard is situated in Castlebay, Isle of Barra’s main village. It is a few minutes from the ferry terminal, handful of shops, tourist information, bank, post office, cafe and two hotel/pubs, which in summer fill with the sound of fiddles, accordions and bagpipes.

Fluran Caravan

2 Bedroom Static caravan for hire in Castlebay, sleeps 4 comfortably in one double and one twin room. The caravan can accommodate 6 on request. Fluran Caravan is just a 5 minute walk from the main ferry terminal, and if available someone will collect you, this courtesy may also be extended to the airport potentially saving you up to £15 each way. The caravan has unspoilt views of Castlebay, has easy access to the local sports centre, cafes, restaurants, bars, and shops.

The caravan comes fully equipped with everything you will need including a flat screen tv with freeview, DVD player and a selection of movies, books, and board games for when the weather is not so favourable. All linen, towels, gas, and electric is included in the price for you convenience and hassle free stay.

Short stays considered for all months excluding July and August call for tariff. Week runs Sunday to Sunday.

A small touring caravan is also available if the static caravan is fully booked, this caravan is ideal for short stays for up to 2 persons from as little as £20 per night.

Barra Snorkel Safari

Here on Barra we are blessed with many white sandy beaches, stunning rocky shores, clear blue waters and a friendly small community atmosphere, giving you the perfect ingredients for your holiday!

Barra Snorkel Safari’s main site is on the Northern tip of Barra at Eoligarry Jetty. From here we can safely and easily access a large number of habitats. We can go into calm shallow water or running deep water. Over sandy seabeds or rocky reefs.

This site also gives more advanced snorkellers the opportunity to have a go at catching Razor Clams or collecting some fresh live cockles to take home for your dinner. We can also tailor the snorkel session to the ability of the snorkeller.

This site also offers parking and toilet facilities.

Some other sites we use depending on the weather are Vatersay causeway, Earsary and Brevig breakwater.

This private holiday home has recently been extended and renovated to a high standard in a modern style. The accommodation is all on one level and sleeps up to seven people in four bedrooms. There are three separate living areas; a comfortable living room, a dining kitchen and a delightful spacious sun lounge.

The cottage is centrally heated and has been furnished and equipped with great care to provide all the comfort for your holiday.

There is a large garage outside where bicycles, kayaks/canoes, fishing tackle, outdoor equipment and clothing etc can be dried and securely stored.

The house name translates to “Ocean View” and as it is located just a short distance from the west coast of Barra, the sun lounge enjoys lovely views South West out over the Atlantic.

Accommodation

A lovely detached one bedroom holiday cottage, perfect for couples. Conveniently located in Bentangaval/Nask, near Castlebay, in the south of the island. The house is less than a mile from the ferry terminal, shops, hotels and amenities of Castlebay, and less than ten minutes walk to the island’s main supermarket and other local facilities.

The house consists of a double bedroom, bathroom, two hallway areas, and a lounge area with through kitchen. The house is newly furnished and decorated. The kitchen has an electric cooker with split oven and grill, a fridge freezer and a washing machine. The lounge has a three seater sofa which can convert to a double bed. There’s also a TV + DVD and Hi-Fi. The bath has a fitted shower attachment. There are some pictures of the interior on my website.

Booking weeks run from Sunday evening to Sunday morning, coinciding with the Oban to Castlebay summer ferry timetable.

Rates

£250 per week in June, July and August (rate applicable from 3rd June to 26th August 2012).
£200 per week at other times (during summer ferry timetable).

Prices based on two people staying. The lounge sofa converts to a double bed. For weeks in summertime, add £50 for a third person staying. Add £75 per week for a total of four people staying.

Well we usually like to try and give Barra-Accommodation.co.uk a face lift every year, and this year is our most exciting!

We have added several new features to help both users and business owners. As well as the list of features below we have improved and added extra map features and added better social interaction abilities.

New user features:

Social Connect – users can now signup with their favorite social network account and post comments and reviews
Users can also now upload images with their reviews or post images of events.
Users can list events, points of interest (POI) and things to do for free (non commercial)
Self Catering, B&B and Hotels can now be sorted/listed by price, accommodates and by reviews.
Users can add places and events to their favorites.
Category listings have a pin point feature to locate places on the sidebar map.

New Business owner features

Owners can now edit their listing any time (once user is confirmed)
Image/gallery order can now be re-arranged.
Business owners can see Google Analytic stats on their listing
Business owners can moderate their own reviews (but not change the review score!)
Owners can link events to their business.
