Wedding Photos at Priory Cottages in Yorkshire: Emily & Aaron

Yesterday I joined Emily & Aaron for their wedding photos at The Priory Barn & Cottages near Wetherby in Yorkshire!

I always love shooting at The Priory, and especially when it’s a relaxed, family-focussed wedding like this. For these guys, it was all about having their two kids and their cousins run free, surrounded by close family and friends.

Tucked away on a working farm in tranquil North Yorkshire countryside, Priory Barn & Cottages makes for a great kid friendly wedding venue

I had a fun morning ducking between the wedding party in adjacent cottages (complete with a ‘Bridesman’ and a ‘Groomswoman’). It was nice to imaginatively capture all the details; from an ancient pocket watch and gran’s jewellery tied to the bouquet, to their daughter’s dress / pocket squares made out of the mother of the bride’s wedding dress (nice idea!). (It was also fun trying to capture a 6’8″ tall groom having his button hole pinned on by his 5’7″ best man).

A romantic midday ceremony was held upstairs in the barn, and nature marked the moment they kissed with a clap of thunder! It decided to rain as we did the signature confetti shot over the balcony, and let the drinks flow (which they do when guests are mainly Geordies!) until the weather cleared.

Once it did, we did a few quick group pics then the newlyweds and I took a walk round to the orchard to deliver personal vows to one other. It was so special to be part of, and drew a tear from all of us… I could do this at every wedding, as it’s such a beautiful personal moment to be part of.

Making their union even more romantic, this couple chose to write and privately deliver vows during their portrait shoot

Touching speeches were delivered in the marquee before a delicious beef bourguignon. Once mains were cleared, a singing waiter broke cover and burst into song! As always, Steve Michaels spun the room into a conga-line of napkin waving musical chaos. Always great value to pap!

The good thing about an early wedding is a nice lazy afternoon relaxing with guests (giving everyone time to work through the 6kg of Haribo they laid on!). So as the evening sun turned golden, I took this sweet pair for a final stroll, before the chaos of cake cutting and dancing! Half way through first dance (Nat King Cole, also crooned by Steve), the kids piled on for a swing, then a father daughter dance was done to The Temptations ‘My Girl’, before letting rip from Motown to Robbie to Ed Sheeran…

I do love shooting weddings in Yorkshire and it’s always lovely to return to this old faithful friend of a venue. Amy and her team still rock a seamless day, and there’s a reason why Priory Cottages is still number 1 one on my Top 10 Wedding Barns Venues in Yorkshire (check it out to view the others!). Wedding photos at Goldsborough Hall, near Harrogate in Yorkshire: Sophie + Marcus

Yesterday I joined Sophie & Marcus for their sun and fun-filled wedding at Goldsborough Hall near Knaresborough!

I joined the girls at a stunning cottage near Armscliffe Crag for their preps, then my wingman Paul and I headed to Goldsborough Hall for the final dressing up! An Anglo/Dutch affair, it was a fabulous meeting of cultures that always get on famously (marked with Dutch and Yorkshire roses in the bouquet)!

Goldsborough Hall has that fantastic blend of being a country house with genuine Regal lineage, but also feels like a chilled, relaxed space to make your own

I love Goldsborough Hall so much it’s one of my top 15 Best Country House & Stately Homes wedding venues in Yorkshire.

Their adorable Spaniel Ava enjoyed her role as ring bearer and treat hunter. Sophie’s brother walked her down the aisle, and his son nailed the reading from Winnie-the-Pooh, before heading out through a tunnel of confetti.

With options to get married in the adjoining St Mary’s Church, on the lawn or in The Princess Mary Drawing Room, you’re spoiled for choice

Outstanding canapés, live music, lawn games and even a live painter (who’d done the stunning stationery) doing live guest portraits made for an unforgettable reception on the terrace.

Before the lovely speeches, nominated ‘captains’ (with armbands of course) kept the vibes high and drinks flowing, and it wasn’t just the newlyweds who were partial to spontaneous dance breaks!

The whole day flowed seamlessly thanks to Ali & Rachel and their ace team, as well as all the awesome suppliers — many of whom had either been recommended or were known to them, such as a friend who made the cake and Sophie’s childhood piano teacher!

It’s so cute that these guys went on their first date exactly 5 years to the day before their wedding, and that Marcus had a groomsman stop his pocket watch at the exact minute they got married, so the moment could be marked forever.

What a fab day and fab bunch! Huge congrats to this amazing pair.

Hodsock Priory Wedding Photography in Nottinghamshire: Jessica & Thomas

Yesterday I headed over to Nottinghamshire to join Jess & Tom for their amazing wedding at Hodsock Priory!

Hodsock Priory is an exclusive country house venue in Nottinghamshire offering grand stately surroundings, exceptional food and drink award-winning service

My wingman Paul Stott and arrived at Hodsock for all the fun-filled preparations… The boys, fuelled by Jack Daniel’s, suiting up in the Clubhouse, while the girls rocked out to Metallica as they were beautified in the Morning Room. Jess finished getting into her gown in the stunning Honeymoon Suite, overlooking the lawn set up for their outdoor ceremony

For Hodsock Priory ceremonies you can get married in Blyth Village church, in the priory itself, but if if mother nature is kind, a ceremony on the lawn, surrounded by nature is just perfect

After teary bridesmaid and dad reveals, we headed to the sunny, Greek-themed ceremony, complete with olive trees and lemons. Jess had recorded a surprise message for Tom before heading down the aisle to a string quartet. They also remembered recently departed pooch Oliver, their beloved fur baby and hoped-for ring bearer, with his dog suit and collar hanging on an ‘in loving memory’ board

Once beautiful vows were sealed with a kiss, we threw confetti on the Gatehouse Bridge, followed by group pics (a nice level of chaos with 7 bridesmaids, 6 groomsmen and a groomsmaid)! Guests had flown in from around the world for this epic, LGBTQ+-friendly celebration (Jess is burlesque performer ‘Medusa Ensnare’, and it felt like half the women there were part of the circuit)!

The rest of the day was super chill, with delicious grub and no less than 6 brilliant speeches! Then came cake cutting and a first dance that started with Etta James’ ‘At Last’ before the needle dropped into The Darkness’ ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’… Far more their speed!

What a fab day and fab bunch! Huge congrats to this amazing pair.

I’ve not shot a wedding here since 2014 and it was such fun to be back. I love visiting grand country houses and seeing the amazing Downton/Bridgerton style stacks the elite once Lorded about in! I read on Wikipedia that the Priory grounds have been occupied since at least the Bronze Age and evidence of occupation Romans and Saxons have been found in the gardens! It was even mentioned in the Domesday Book and has passed through various powerful families, to Sir Andrew Buchanan, 5th Baronet and Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

Yesterday I joined Roshelle + Aidan for their wedding photos at Cockley Wood Weddings near Wakefield in Yorkshire…

Cockley Wood Weddings: a seriously cool venue for a family-friendly party in the woods overlooking Wakefield

This pair of high school sweethearts have been together for over 18 years! Apparently, Aidan jokingly proposed every year throughout their relationship, but it wasn’t until it was the arrival of their lovely little daughter that a wedding was spurred into action, for ‘the official completion of their family’.

After chilled morning preparations at an AirBnB & pub garden, my wingman Martyn Hand and I headed to Cockley Woods for the first time!

Celebrant (and Master of Ceremonies extraordinare) Melody conducted a beautiful wedding blessing under the canopy, before a hail of confetti & chilled reception filled with fizz and Jimmy Macks BBQ nibbles around an open fire.

After a round of quick family groups and portraits around the beautiful woodland paths, it was time for a BBQ feast and fun speeches. In the evening we were blessed by golden sunlight so dived into a nearby field for golden hour pics before cutting the cake and cutting loose on the dancefloor!

Stylistic Note: The newlyweds chose not to feature photos of their daughter here, so this is a slightly condensed post (as she was in every other photo!)

Chloe, her team did a fab job of keeping things light and fun, and the catering was insane! I do love shooting funky barn and unique wedding venues around Yorkshire and it’s always exciting to visit a funky new venue!

Wedding Photography at The Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire: Emily + Kevin

Last Friday I joined Emily + Kevin for their fun-packed wedding photography at The Tithe Barn at Bolton Abbey – a wonderfully restored, ancient barn, overlooking the amazing Bolton Abbey in the rolling Yorkshire Dales! The Tithe Barn is also one of the venues covered in my best Yorkshire barn wedding venues guide.

I joined Emily and team bride at her parents beautifully restored home in Sutton in Craven, also in rolling Yorkshire valleys, crowned by monuments like Lund’s Tower and Wainman’s Pinnacle.

Throughout the day there were loads of fun nods and traditions to Kevin’s Chinese family heritage, starting with ‘Door Games’! It was fun watching the groom and his entourage descend on the bridal preparations, try to bribe their way through the bridesmaids (with cash filled red envelopes and by completing challenges) to prove Kevins worth to marry Emily! Watching them bursting balloons using only body parts, act out charades, come up with a freestyle rap and assemble a photo fit was hilarious!

After a lovely dad/daughter reveal we headed round the block to their local church of St Thomas (bedecked in the lucky Chinese colour Red) for a charming ceremony by Vicar Suzie. Groomsmen played Emily down the aisle to violin & piano, and after signing the register, a young lad called Aiden sang a solo and moved more than a few guests to tears!

Confetti looked immense (mainly cause page boy Connor threw half of it on his tod!) and off we drove to Bolton Abbey for the reception. The Tithe Barn looked fab in Red (with tables named after summits they’d surmounted as a couple), and Kevin’s brother and Chinese guests wasted no time in handing out shots of Chinese Baijiu!

The meal was preceded by a lovely tea ceremony, with newlyweds honouring their elders. The meal was punctuated by lovely speeches, the cake cutting and impressively athletic Chinese Lion Dancers putting on an amazing performance, and spitting out lucky sweets!

After a delicious spit-roast duck dinner, while a few guests took a disco nap, Emily, Kevin & I took a stroll in the golden evening sunshine to a fab viewpoint in the village, overlooking the abbey. As evening rolled in, and further rounds of Baijiu downed, it was suddenyly time for first dance and revelry. Language was no barrier on the dancefloor and everyone got stuck in, and impressive robot moves were performed. After the bouquet toss and sparkler carnage, I bid the fantastic crowd farewell…

Susan + Andy’s Wedding Photos at The Saddle Room at Tupgill Park Estate at Forbidden Corner in Yorkshire

Last Saturday I joined Susan & Andrew for their fabulous wedding at The Saddle Rooms in the Tupgill Park Estate in Yorkshire’s beautiful Wensleydale!

Tupgill Park Estate has a host of fabulous wedding spaces to enjoy in 513 acres of countryside overlooking glorious Wensleydale!

I’ve only visited in the past for the forbidden corner, but there’s so much more on wedding side of it! Stunning newly styled accommodation dotted all across the site, an incredible country house with lawns overlooking the the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, an amazing timber beamed Bell Barn for the ceremony and meal and incredible grounds and lakes to wander in for pics!

Susan & Andrew threw a beautiful, family-focused wedding with generations from great, great grandmas all the way down to newborns! While the Dalesy weather was that classic ‘all seasons in a day’ it didn’t dampen proceedings (especially with singing waiters whipping everything into a conga line of chaos!)

The Bell Barn at and Courtyard at The Saddle Rooms is the perfect venue for both a civil ceremony and delicious wedding breakfast

I really enjoyed joining these two and their lovely guests for this special day. I do love shooting weddings in Yorkshire and it was great to finally shoot at this amazing venue!

Wedding Photos at Samlesbury Hall in Lancashire: Karla + Bethan

Last Saturday I joined Karla & Bethan for their amazing wedding at Samlesbury Hall near Preston in Lancashire. And what a perfect day it was too!

Samlesbury Hall is an enchanting Lancashire historic house – over 700 years old – and a perfect backdrop for a unique wedding!

These two are such a sweet pair, meeting on Tinder in 2019, and within 3 months decided to take an adventure to Borneo together that kindled their love! When Covid hit, they bubbled up and have loved life ever since…

Well, almost! Their fairytale wedding on a beach in Koh Phi Phi in Thailand last year was sabotaged when Bethan lost eyesight in one eye! While spending most of the trip in hospital, they still married in a Thai registry office (in a region that’s inscribed inside their wedding bands!) and on the day before their 7 year anniversary, I joined them for the final part of their celebration in Lancashire, with their near and dear!

In the morning, I joined the girls and the mums for hair & makeup at Bethan’s fave hair dressers in the amazingly named Oswaldtwistle near Accrington, before heading to Samlesbury Hall‘s historic Gatehouse to get ready.

It was so nice seeing these two going through their 7th annual photobook, before putting on their matching altered suits. They’d not told anyone they were wearing custom suits, and it was lovely to see the mum’s reactions when they came to collect them! After a quick shot from margarita filled hip-flasks, we were off…

The 15th century ceremony chapel and Great Hall at Samlesbury Hall are so enchanting for guests, and the grounds make for stunning photos

After the happy couple walked down the aisle together, Bethan’s mum (a Welsh reverend, who’s not done a wedding before) did a smashing job delivering their blessing! I found the poems she read really moving (especially The Promises of Marriage – by Bettie Meek).

Later, we headed back out in the glorious afternoon sunshine for cuddles, confetti and canapés, along with ice cream and lawn games! Their musical family friend Vicky Bedwin – a veritable one woman band – entertained everyone while guests milled and munched on delicious nibbles. During this time it was also fab to catch up old pals Kelly & Pete (who’s wedding I photographed many moons ago!)

After a delicious meal in the great hall, we were blessed with another round of lovely pics in the evening golden sunshine, before cutting the cake, having a boogie and finally being rocked out by her brother’s amazing band ‘Sleeping Through The Day’! After shenanigans finally died down, many guests retired to the stylish glamping Shepherd’s Huts on site to sleep off all the partying…

I do love doing gay & LGBTQ+ wedding photography and shooting weddings in Lancashire and it was great to be back at Samlesbury Hall for the second time in many years!

Wharfedale Grange Wedding Photos, between Harrogate and Harewood in Yorkshire: Vickie + Ricky

Last weekend I joined Vickie + Ricky for their wedding photos at Wharfedale Grange, one of my top 10 Best Yorkshire Barn Wedding venues between Harewood and Harrogate!

Wharfedale Grange is one of Yorkshire’s leading luxury barn wedding venues, surrounded by wildflower meadows and rolling countryside.

I knew when I met these guys we were a match! Vickie has a wicked sense of humour, they have a cuuuuute pooch and as a pair they’re quick to laugh! All a win for me…

What they’re not quick at is getting married! They’ve been engaged for no less than 27 years! (after meeting at the infamous Leeds pub the Chained Bull – an old haunt of mine!)

But that relaxed vibe showed itself as a great flavour at the wedding, which was chilled and chock full of fun*

*Read: Booze!

I dipped between the action with the girls in the secret bridal prep room and Ricky, the boys and their Schnauzer Molly in Wharfedale’s Grade II listed farmhouse.

After buttonholes and Vickie’s stunning dress were on (and a few dumbells had been curled!) we headed down to the ceremony in the North Barn. Out through a hail of confetti the newlyweds emerged for fizz, delicious canapés and a quick round of group pics in front of the rolling hills and meadows.

With a dedicated ceremony room, stylish bar and a huge dining party barn, as well an outdoor sun-trap terrace, it’s perfect for weddings.

After hilarious speeches (& a fun poem from Vickie’s mate Sarah), a delicious wedding breakfast was served in the South Barn, followed by surprise Singing Waiters! Once everyone had caught their breath from conga lines and waving napkins to That’s Amore, it was back out for cocktail hour! Pornstar or Espresso, that is the question?!

Before we knew it it was time to cut the cake, do a dancefloor groupshot have a boogie to ‘Walking on Sunshine’ with confetti cannons firing!

Then ’cause it was such a glorious sunny evening, everyone headed straight back outside to enjoy ice creams and pizza!

It was great to join this lovely pair (and Molly!) and fab to be back at Wharfedale Grange (props to Camilla & Emma for all their hard graft in the background).

All in all, you couldn’t have hoped for a nicer couple and a nicer day! The perfect Yorkshire Wedding, and I hope you enjoy my wedding story below from this ace wedding!

Riverlands Wedding Barns Photo near Goole, in East Yorkshire: Sophie + Sam

Last Saturday I joined Sophie & Sam for their EPIC wedding at Riverland Wedding Barns near Goole in East Yorkshire – arguably my new favourite venue in all of Yorkshire!

East Yorkshires finest renovated barn wedding venue… A photographer’s dream!

Not only was everything about the barns perfectly styled and planned for a relaxed, funky wedding, but this couple and their fam and friends were just a delight to be around. (I shot Sophie’s sister Pip’s wedding a few years back and it was so good to see everyone again!).

This creative, musical couple (and their army of planners and helpers) thought of everything; from Pip taking on the role of Celebrant (& brownie baker!), a best pal being ‘Mistress of Ceremonies’ (according to Dad’s description anyway!) and Sam’s brother and pro singer bridesmaid leading guests in singing Africa by Toto to end the blessing!

Details (& the epic BBQ food from Big D’s BBQ!) were a delight – from homemade lawn games to the epic mountain of brownies! Their little one year old Amelia was front and centre enjoying all the shenanigans, and the Kyler & Kate from Riverlands ran everything with a professional chilled precision. (They even got involved in ‘the peg game’ where guests secretly clipped clothes pegs on each other and I’m still finding them hanging off my camera bag!)

Surrounded by open fields and nature reserves, it is private and exclusive, but relaxed and easy to get to!

My wingman Paul Stott and I had a blast with this fab crowd. I love shooting wedding photography all across Yorkshire and love discovering new venues! Kyler & Kate at Riverlands Wedding Barns were such fun to work with and I hope to be back again soon!
