Thank you for your loyal and consistent patronage at Bank Square Books during the construction this fall. We all know that when completed the Streetscape will look beautiful and we will have a lovely park in front of the store where you can sit and read your newly purchased books.

I was dismayed by some of the comments in today’s article with people saying they will drive to Warwick to shop at a Barnes & Noble or buy on-line from Amazon. Please remember to support your locally owned and fiercely independent bookstore located in downtown Mystic, Bank Square Books.

It’s easy to begin reading Mira Bartok’s The Memory Palace with a few expectations. It is a memoir, after all. And she did have a schizophrenic mother. And a brain injury. But to read this book with any of those preconceptions will sell both book and reader short.

I had the opportunity to chat with Ms. Bartok about The Memory Palace and her life; she will be reading and signing at our store, Bank Square Books of Mystic, next week.

I have been doing a lot of thinking in this aftermath of Borders filing for bankruptcy and what it means for Bank Square Books and the book business as a whole. Please read the message below and send me any of your thoughts and input, or just give a call if you want to talk. We need your comments and questions. Some initial reactions about the Borders' bankruptcy filing are that this is the best thing for independent bookstores that has ever happened. False. Or that more and more people will flock to their local indies to buy more books. Not necessarily.
