Bike to Work Day is tomorrow, May 17th here in Baltimore and we hope you are planning to participate if you can. Registration has officially closed, but it’s not too late to join in the fun. Stop by the BBW pit stop tomorrow from 7am to 9:30am for hot, delicious coffee from local roaster Thread Coffee, vegan breakfast treats from our friends at Red Emma’s, enter to win a bike when you sign the Clean Currents energize responsibly pledge and much more.

Bianchi Demo Day: Friday May 10th

Join Baltimore Bicycle Works and Bianchi Representative Will Mahler for Bianchi Demo Day, Today from 4pm to 7pm.

We are so excited to have Will here to show off his fleet and share his extensive knowledge with us. For this demo day we are focusing on Bianchi’s carbon road bikes including the Sempre and Infinito .

If you have been thinking about a new carbon Bianchi road bike, this is a great opportunity to test out a few and get a feel for the superior ride Bianchi is able to offer. Will is an expert in everything Bianchi and he will be able to educate you on the fine details behind the technology and design of these bikes.

Bike to Work Day 2013 will be celebrated in the Baltimore region and across the nation on Friday May 17, 2013. This year marks the 16th annual event in Baltimore and will feature events at locations around the City, including in front of your favorite bike shop! So register today at http://baltometro.org/bicycle/bike-to-work-day and be sure to stop by and visit us on Friday the 17th. We will have caffeinated beverages brought to you by local coffee roaster Thread Coffee and vegan coffee cake from Red Emma’s. As always we will also have tee shirts for folks who per-registered and other morning refreshments.

Monument to Monument Ride: Sunday, May 5th

Sunday, May 5th join the Rando Rambler’s for their annual Monument to Monument Ride. The ride meets at Baltimore’s Washington Monument at 7:45am and continues 97 miles south on lightly trafficked roads ending at the Washington Monument in DC. It is a casual paced ride and a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other cyclists. This ride is always highly anticipated and is promised to be a wonderful day spent on your bike. Early Closing Saturday: Lindsey and Phill Tie the Knot

Founding member and friend of the shop, Lindsey Meisinger is getting married this Saturday! In order to be able to attend the wedding, we will be closing the shop at 3pm Saturday. Team BBC Kicks off Spring Season: Weekend Race Report & TNTT Start Again

The Spring race season is off to a great start and I’d like to share with you some of the recent successes of Team BBC members. This weekend at the Greenbrier Challenge MTB race, Team BBC members John Rohrer, and Brian Wilkerson both took a step on the podium in their respective events. John placed fifth in the Sport Class and Brian came in first place in the the Single Speed category! In addition, Pedro Oliveira took 18th in a large Cat 5 field at the All American Road Race. In other team related news, the Tuesday Night Time Trial, sponsored by BBC and brought to you by Team BBC’s Aaron Mongeau will start up again April 30th. This event is a great training tool for any level of cyclist. You can use the Tuesday Night Time Trial to gauge your performance as the summer season progresses. It will be a casual and open class event. Casual means you bring your own bib number, and no license is required. Open class means we are not confusing results by adding categories. After you’ve completed your “run” stop by the timing station for discussion on training, and conditioning with other cyclists like yourself.

The TNTT is at 6:30pm every other Tuesday starting April 30th. Meet at 6:30 pm in the Butler Volunteer Co. parking lot, 15019 Falls Rd. Butler, MD. 21023. Once all participants are signed up riders will be sent out in one minute intervals. The course is a challenging 14-mile loop with flat sections, rolling hills, steep climbs, and fast descents. There are 3 stop signs and this is not a closed course so please remember you are responsible for obeying all traffic laws and riding safely. Baltimore Family Bike Party - Tomorrow

Join the Family Bike Party this Saturday, April 20th, for a family friendly bike ride around Sherwood Gardens. Just in time for the tulips, this ride is going to be as fun as it is beautiful.

The ride begins at 9:30am. Meet at Stratford Road and Greenway. This is a fun and safe ride for children and a great way to get your little to safe riding techniques.

iSlave: Foxconn Workers Struggle in China

The Baltimore IWW is sponsoring an event on Monday, April 22nd at 7:00 PM at 2640 St. Paul Street in addition to another talk at Hopkins the next day. The evening will feature Ralf, a solidarity activist from Germany who has been researching and interviewing workers from China’s Foxconn factories, which make Apple products such as the iPhone and iPad in outrageous sweatshop conditions.

Ralf will tell the story of how these workers are bravely fighting back and what we can do to support their struggle for justice. We will also be showing a short video that documents the Foxconn struggle.

This event is free and open to the public. Please spread the word to anyone who might be interested.
