Baseball legend Satchel Paige once stated “Aint no man can avoid being born average, but there aint no man got to be common.” No where in the modern major league landscape is this attribution more applicable than the Colorado Rockies own Troy Tulowitzki. Consistently lauded by his peers for his hard work ethic and commitment to playing the game the right way, Tulowitzki’s efforts continue to pay off big time.

Although the 2011 season ended on a sour note for the Rockies, a bright spot can be found in the performance of the franchise shortstop. Troy’s aptitude for making breathtaking defensive plays look routine earned him both the Rawlings Gold Glove and the Fielding Bible Award earlier this week. Both of these awards are presented to the player that excels the most defensively at his position. With Range Factors and Fielding Percentages that led the league, along with being in the top five in both Assists and Putouts, Tulowitzki’s performance guaranteed him a virtual lock for the accolades.

While a majority of the team struggled to find any rhythm offensively in 2011, Tulowitzki again had an incredible offensive output this year. He hit .302 while slamming 30 Home Runs and driving in 105 RBI, phenomenal numbers for a player that had missed nearly 20 games throughout the season. Troy’s impressive offensive output in the 2011 season ended with him earning his second consecutive Silver Slugger award this Wednesday.

Clearly, Troy Tulowitzki continually transcends the expectations that are laid before him. In no way has Tulowitzki accepted the role of being “common.” While the Rockies continue to search for the right combination of players to bring a championship to Denver, they can be assured that in Tulowitzki, they have found a true diamond in the rough.

Congratulations Tulo on your 2011 Silver Slugger, Rawlings Gold Glove and Fielding Bible awards. May there be many more to come. Keep up the good work!

For the period ending on August 28th, Carlos Gonzales was voted the NL Player of the week. This is the third weekly award of his career. In six games, Cargo went 13 for 27 with three home runs and 10 RBI’s. His stellar performance over those six games, including a hit in every game, helped the Rockies go 4-2.

Though the season has been somewhat of a disappointment, Gonzales has definitely stepped up. His hitting streak is at 15 games, and he’s looked great in the outfield. His great play along with that of teammate Troy Tulowitzki could be a good sign for the Rockies next season. Until then, one can celebrate past Rockies success in B’s Ballpark Museum at both the Old Mile High Stadium exhibit and the Rockies ’98 All-Star Game exhibit.

On July 22nd 1954 New York Yankee Manager Casey Stengel shakes up his lineup by inserting Mickey Mantle into the shortstop position from center field at the top of the 9th inning. Just a short time later, in the bottom of the tenth, Mantle hits a walk-off home run giving New York the victory over Chicago at 4 to 3.

With such a celebrated career, its hard not to appreciate Mantle’s many achievements including this day in history. In fact, most visitors of B’s Ballpark Museum are forced to reflect on Mantle’s successful career as they view the drainage cover that he tripped over in the 1951 World Series, blowing out his knee for virtually the rest of his career. He was one of the greatest to ever play the game, and some believe that he could have been the best ever. On a day like today it’s hard not to appreciate his many feats, and also reflect upon the small tragedies that prevented him from being even greater.

History was made once again as Derek Jeter joined the “3000 Hit Club” Saturday. Jeter homered off of David Price of the Tampa Bay Rays in the third inning for his 3000th hit. Going 4 for 4, he also recorded hits # 3001 and 3002. Of all the 28 players who recorded 3000 hits in their careers, Jeter is the only one to do it as a Yankee.

For Yankee fans who are celebrating Jeter’s magnificent accomplishment of solidifying his place in Yankee history, one might also want to see other pieces of Yankee history here at B’s Ballpark Museum. For instance, the Commemorative Home Plate from the last game at Old Yankee Stadium; where Jeter himself may have stood. Or perhaps the drainage cover that Mickey Mantle tripped over in the 1951 World Series. If he hadn’t injured his knee on that drainage cover, he might have been part of the 3000 hit club himself.

Even if you’re not a Yankee fan, but appreciate Jeter’s feat, there are many items in the Museum that reference other members of the 3000 Hit Club. For Cardinals fans who miss the big bat of Stan “The Man” Musial, come see the autographed illustration of Sportsmans Park as well as the enlarged, signed cover of the May 1954 Saturday Evening Post. Or for Tiger fans who remember the days of Al Kaline reaching 3000 hits, there is the Entrance Signage referencing Kaline Street.

Essentially there is something for everyone here at B’s Ballpark Museum, and with Jeter’s historic achievement, it only makes sense to celebrate Baseball History. B’s Ballpark Museum would like to congratulate Derek Jeter on his wonderful accomplishment and stellar career.
