Man, it was smoking @ Uluwatu today……….

Hello surfers and thanks for dropping by your baliwaves.com for todays Sunday Session on surfing and weather conditions here on the happy little holiday island of Bali.

Well as ya’s can see in the photos I loaded up last night we did make the afternoon run down to Uluwatu to catch the bottom of the tide. Even though it was the lower end it wasn’t a reef exposer so there were still ridable waves on the Main Peak and further down the reef at Temple’s. When we first arrived wave height was only in the 1-2ft+ range but just as the tide started to push back we scored our predicted little boost in size.

So it wasn’t long and wave height had jumped to a slightly more respectable 2-3ft+. There was only 18 surfers in the water, but numbers did increase with the rising tide, up to somewhere in the mid 40’s, but that’s spread out from Temple’s through the Main Peak and into the Racetrack. We also hung out and scored a classic Bali sunset around 6.40pm with a view from the cliff side warungs.

Speaking of numbers in the water, I read on a Sydney based surfing website forum this morning about a couple of not in the know surfers knocking Bali as being way to crowded. What a laugh, If you put a wave half as good as Uluwatu in Sydney there’d be 400 surfers, 200 long boarders, 150 body boarders and probably 50 stand up paddler’s on it everyday. That would be the kettle calling the pot black…. So if you want a Real Surfing holiday Bali is with out a doubt your best bet. ; ) Just back track through our surf report archives and count how many days it was flat in Bali in the last 12 months LOL.

This mornings surf check on the Outer reefs (wind and swell indicators) was showing that wave height infact peaked through the middle of the night and has faded back into the wasit to waist high plus region between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. I’ve called a lay day for myself as I think I can afford to wait for the next expected swell to start showing around Tuesday. Hopefully our friends at Hendra Surf Photography down at Uluwatu will be dropping off some fresh photos of Ulu today later this evening.

Looking for a wave today Uluwatu would be the place to start at and I’m sure you would still be able to find some clean waist to head high plus waves, with clean off-shore wind coming out of the ESE @ 5-8knot.

Tidal info for today has a 2.0mtr High @ 10.00am and then she’ll be running out for a 0.6mtr Low around 4.00pm. Next Moon Phase is going to be a New one tomorrow the 15th.

Weather wise it’s strictly board shorts and bikini’s again today with blue sky and sunshine only. Temperature wise we should get up to around the 34 degree Celsius mark while the water temp is an honest 24 degree’s Celsius.

Hari Nypie, just another reminder to ya’s about Nypie Day which is going to be happening on the 16th of March. The perfect day of rest and recuperation for the planet. No cars, no lights, no industry, no polution. But… no surfing either, everyone must stay in doors. Imagine if your city / country could shut down for just 1 day…..

Swell forecast for the following week is showing that we should see another small spike in wave size on Wednesday. Then fading back out through Thursday and then not much left for Friday and Saturday. Sunday morning looks like another small spike filling that should hold through Monday. Then late Monday afternoon come Tuesday morning see’s the start of a more moderate swell marching in towards Bali.

This mornings surf check on the Outer reefs (wind and swell indicators) was showing that wave height infact peaked through the middle of the night and has faded back into the wasit to waist high plus region between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. I’ve called a lay day for myself as I think I can afford to wait for the next expected swell to start showing around Tuesday. Hopefully our friends at Hendra Surf Photography down at Uluwatu will be dropping off some fresh photos of Ulu today later this evening.

Kuta Reef to Uluwatu (arvo sess), 13th March 2010

Hi crew and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com for todays news on surfing and weather conditions here on your tropical surfing paradise island of Bali. Yep warm water, sunshine, off-shore wind and most important waves all year round.

This mornings surf check on the Outer reefs here in Tuban was showing pretty much the same as yesterday with 1-2ft+ of swell hitting between Kuta reef and Airport Left. More calm and glassy conditions to start the ball rolling, and surfers out there taking advantage of it. Then around 9.30am the ESE off-shore Tradewind kicked in and is still now producing clean off-shore wind between Kuta and Uluwatu up to 12knots in strength.

Hopefully by later this afternoon we might see a small increase or at least more consistency in the waves. We are going to take a run down to the south end of the island to see if there’s anything down there on the lower end of the tide. And hopefully we’ll get some more photos to help ya’s get through the weekend.

Tidal info for today has us down for a 1.9mtr High @ 9.30am and then this affternoon we’ll have a 0.8mtr Low around 3.00pm. Next moon phase is going to see a New Moon rising on the 15th.

Weather wise here in Bali today it couldn’t get much better I tell ya’s. Blue sky, sunshine and heading for a top temperature of at least 34 degree’s Celsius. Ocean temperature is well suited to boardies and bikinis @ 24 C.

Kuta Reef to Uluwatu, 12th March 2010

Hi folks and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com for the news on todays surfing and weather conditions here on the best value surfing holiday destination of Bali. And I gotta say that after spending the last 2 months out of the water with a knarly infected (rusty steel) hole in my foot it was finally, good to get back in the water.

This mornings check on the Outer reefs here in Tuban was showing another decrease in wave height with only 1-2ft+ of swell hitting between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. But still surfing conditions were perfect. No wind at all when we first jumped off the reef taxi at Kuta Reef and the water was incredibly clear. It kinda made it look like there was only 1 foot of water between your board and the reef. When infact there was at least 2 to 3 feet… We had Kuta Reef to ourselves, nothing special but some fun little waves in the waist to nipple high range peeling for around 40mtrs.

Further down on Middle Reef there looked to be around 25+ surfers on it with wave height only slightly bigger. Then at Airport Left the channe;l was chocka block full of waiting reef taxi’s and at least 30 surfers in the water.

Tidal info for today had a 1.6mtr High @ 9.00am and then a mediocre 1.0mtr Low around the 2.00pm mark.

Weather wise we’ve got another perfect day for the lucky one’s here on holidays. Blue sky and sunshine with a top temperature of around 34 degree’s Celsius. The water temp was just as perfect in boardshorts at 24 degree’s Celsius. No wind early this morning but then the ESE-SE off-shore kicked in around 10.00am. Now at 3.45pm the wind seems to have swung back to the WNW.

Good Morning …
Well the swell jumped up considerably yesterday arvo at about 4pm to about
5-6ft from the south with a strong southerly to accompany it.
Byron Bay saw some great waves just at dark yesterday and this morning,Its
breaking between 2-4ft in Byron so grab ya board and hit it! Open beaches
are big and messy.

Well it’s SW and there are clean lines from the SE . Swell has dropped a bit
to 2-3ft but there should be some nice ones around at low tide around
southerly wind protected areas.
Swell is expected to pick up and so is the wind from the south in the next
day or so.Hope you find a wave, the water is a very warm 24 oc and nice and
clean north of Ballina.

Hello to everyone with Bali on their minds and welcome aboard the baliwaves.com for todays indepth look at surfing and weather conditions here on the happy holiday island of Bali.

Ok, so this morning’s surf recon on the Outer Reefs (wind and swell indicators, not too mention perfect waves when they are on) was showing wave height to have backed off a foot or so from yesterday. But still very surfable at waist to head high plus between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. I didn’t stick about for too long down there as I had to get home and wake up “the crew”, get em feed, and then shuttle em down to Uluwatu. I might also mention that surfing conditions were clean with the wind coming lightly out of the SSE @ 1-3knot. Off-shore wind between Kuta and Uluwatu’s Main Peak.

Uluwatu when we arrived was showing wave height coming through at a very consistant head to double head high. All sections, from Temple’s through the Main Peak and the Racetrack were producing some nice waves. Crowd wise there would have been around 50+ surfers spread through the whole line-up, not too bad. Stand out surfers were once again local father and son team of Made Lapur and his boy Agus “Blacky” Setiawan. Made, for the record finished the ISC last year in around 8th position (over all Indonesia). And I tell ya, today it was hard to tell who was the ranked surfer. Just as we were packing it up another local Uluwatu surfer by the name of Made Lana hit the water, but unfortunately for him he snapped his legrope on his first set wave.

Surfing conditions down at Uluwatu were also clean and tidy with the SSE wind but tending a little cross-shore down towards the Temple end of town.

Tidal info for today had a 1.4mtr High @ 7.00am then only just running out for a measley 1.2mtr Low around 12.30pm. Not much tide range due to the current Moon Phase. The next Phase will be a New Moon happening on the 15th of March. (one day before Hari Nypie)

Weather wise it was mainly overcast down on the Bukit this morning, but back here in Tuban it’s blue sky and sunshine.

Kuta Reef to Airport Left, 10th march 2010

G’Day folks and welcome back to the baliwaves.com the website that’s run by surfers for surfers. For those of you that are planning a holiday to Bali or for those of you that just want to stay in touch with Bali, here is today’s run down on surfing and weather conditions.

This mornings 6.30am surf recon of the Outer reefs here in Tuban was as expected re yesterdays swell forecast showing a distinct increase in wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport left. At the time Kuta Reef was perfectly peeling off some long left handers in the chest to head high plus range and no surfers in sight. Middle Reef was pushing the double head high class and no surfers in sight. Airport left had consistant chest to head high plus waves and no surfers in sight. I guess everyone was sleeping in around this part of the island.

Surfing conditions were, and still are, clean as a whistle with the wind coming lightly out of the East @ 1-3knot. Off-shore wind between Kuta and Uluwatu.

Tidal info for today has us down for a 1.1mtr Low @ 10.00am and then running back up with a 1.9mtr High around 5.00pm.

Weather wise here in Tuban this morning it’s just blue sky and sunshine with another excellent day coming on along the beach.

Later on today we’ll be taking a run down the south end of the island to get some more waves, and more photos for ya’s to mind surf. But first I got to look after my 2yr old birthday boy, Wayan Ray.

Hello surfers and welcome back to your baliwaves.com for the most accurate and latest news on todays surfing and weather conditions here on the happy little holiday island of Bali.

This mornings surf check on the Outer reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height to have dropped off another notch. Not a whole happening between Kuta reef and Airport Left with only waist to chest high waves. Well not a lot compared to last few days we’ve had anyway. Kuta reef was pretty well out of the equation, unless you were only about 2ft tall. Middle Reef had some waves in the waist to chest high plus range but with around 25 surfers out there. And further down the line on Airport Left there would have been at least 40 surfers chasing the waist to chest high waves.

Surfing conditions were very clean and tidy with the wind coming out of the ESE @ 4-8knot, blowing straight off-shore between Kuta and Uluwatu.

Tidal info for today has us down for a 0.9mtr Low @ 9.00am and then running back up for a 2.0mtr High around 3.00pm.

Speaking of tides, the best locations to surf on the low tides are Middle Reef here on the Outer Reefs of Tuban, Down south on the Bukit Bingin is a special and of course Uluwatu’s Racetrack loves the lower end of the tide. And if the swells solid Padang Padang does it’s best on the bottom of the tide.

Weather wise it’s more blue sky and sunshine for the beach lovers and ocean goer’s here on vacation. Currently right now at 1.00pm the temperature outside is around the 33 degree Celsius mark.

Looking for a wave today I’d have to say down south at Uluwatu you’d be finding the best size and power.

Swell forecast for the following week is showing that we should see another small spike in wave size on Wednesday. Then fading back out through Thursday and then not much left for Friday and Saturday. Sunday morning looks like another small spike filling that should hold through Monday. Then late Monday afternoon come Tuesday morning see’s the start of a more moderate swell marching in towards Bali.

Rip Curl GromSearch runs in perfect conditions at Lakey Peak, Sumbawa.

The first leg of the 2010 Rip Curl GromSearch series ran in pumping waves at Lakey Peak Sumbawa this weekend 7th March.

Groms from all around the Lakey area took on the triple overhead conditions in the under 16 division giving the judges a taste of the gutsy talent that is on offer in this region.

The evening before the event kicked off a meeting was called in Lakey Beach Inn where a unanimous decision was reached by the kids– some as young as 9 years old – to hold the main event out at the peak, one of Indonesia’s most perfect waves.

In the morning the crew were greeted with perfect conditions giving Rip Curl Indo’s best team riders the opportunity to put on an amazing free-surfing display of tube riding skill and Ariel antics. Once the tide filled in with more water flooding over the shallow reef, contest officials decided it was time for the first heats of the day to be run.

From the first horn until the end of the Under 16 finals in the early afternoon, local boys ripped the peak to pieces with stand out performances including 10 year old Andri Anwar, an existsting Rip Curl team rider who signed another 2 year contract with Rip Curl during the event weekend.

Dominating the under 16’s division were local boys Bombar, Mansur, Sin and Usman who slayed their way into a 4 man final with impressive late drops flowing turns not to mention the odd tube ride on some of the biggest set waves of the day. However, it was local boy Usman who took first place defeating Mansur in 2nd, Sin in 3rd and Bomar in 4th.

Usman and runner-up Mansur both walked away with tickets to the Rip Curl GromSearch National final to be held during the Rip Curl Surf n music festival at Kuta Beach on October 23rd.

As the tide dropped out in the afternoon main competitors gave a welcome break for the older boys to take to the water for the SKULLCANDY EXPRESSION SESSION with local boy Ornot winning best wave and Firman best trick, both winning the latest Skullcandy headphones for their efforts.

With the Under 16’s and expression session finished the contest site was moved to the beach inside Lakey Pipe where the Under 14’s division was contested in fun 2 foot waves offering some playful sections for the remaining kids.

Winning the under 14’s division was Ompu Imran, with Lakey Irmansyah in 2nd place, M.Sirajudin 3rd and Irfan 4th.

Rip Curl team manager Wayan Yudha said: ‘Were stoked to be welcomed by the local boys here at Lakey to run this event, it gives some of the youngest grommets a taste of competition surfing for the first time in a friendly, fun environment. This event also gives us a chance to look out for new up coming talent as some of Rip Curl’s best team riders have been found during the GromSearch in this region in the past”
