Kuta Reef to Airport Left, 10th march 2010

****MORNING SURF UP-DATE****
G’Day folks and welcome back to the baliwaves.com the website that’s run by surfers for surfers. For those of you that are planning a holiday to Bali or for those of you that just want to stay in touch with Bali, here is today’s run down on surfing and weather conditions.

This mornings 6.30am surf recon of the Outer reefs here in Tuban was as expected re yesterdays swell forecast showing a distinct increase in wave height between Kuta Reef and Airport left. At the time Kuta Reef was perfectly peeling off some long left handers in the chest to head high plus range and no surfers in sight. Middle Reef was pushing the double head high class and no surfers in sight. Airport left had consistant chest to head high plus waves and no surfers in sight. I guess everyone was sleeping in around this part of the island.

Surfing conditions were, and still are, clean as a whistle with the wind coming lightly out of the East @ 1-3knot. Off-shore wind between Kuta and Uluwatu.

Tidal info for today has us down for a 1.1mtr Low @ 10.00am and then running back up with a 1.9mtr High around 5.00pm.

Weather wise here in Tuban this morning it’s just blue sky and sunshine with another excellent day coming on along the beach.

Later on today we’ll be taking a run down the south end of the island to get some more waves, and more photos for ya’s to mind surf. But first I got to look after my 2yr old birthday boy, Wayan Ray.

Changing dollars to Rupiah on the streets of Kuta you’ll find that –1US$=Rp9,175. — 1AU$=Rp8, 350 — Rates will vary from vendor to vendor of course.

Swell forecast for the following week is showing that we should see another small spike in wave size on Wednesday. Then fading back out through Thursday and then not much left for Friday and Saturday. Sunday morning looks like another small spike filling that should hold through Monday. Then late Monday afternoon come Tuesday morning see’s the start of a more moderate swell marching in towards Bali.

Kuta Reef to Airport Left, 9th March ‘10

Hello surfers and welcome back to your baliwaves.com for the most accurate and latest news on todays surfing and weather conditions here on the happy little holiday island of Bali.

This mornings surf check on the Outer reefs here in Tuban was showing wave height to have dropped off another notch. Not a whole happening between Kuta reef and Airport Left with only waist to chest high waves. Well not a lot compared to last few days we’ve had anyway. Kuta reef was pretty well out of the equation, unless you were only about 2ft tall. Middle Reef had some waves in the waist to chest high plus range but with around 25 surfers out there. And further down the line on Airport Left there would have been at least 40 surfers chasing the waist to chest high waves.

Surfing conditions were very clean and tidy with the wind coming out of the ESE @ 4-8knot, blowing straight off-shore between Kuta and Uluwatu.

Tidal info for today has us down for a 0.9mtr Low @ 9.00am and then running back up for a 2.0mtr High around 3.00pm.

Speaking of tides, the best locations to surf on the low tides are Middle Reef here on the Outer Reefs of Tuban, Down south on the Bukit Bingin is a special and of course Uluwatu’s Racetrack loves the lower end of the tide. And if the swells solid Padang Padang does it’s best on the bottom of the tide.

Weather wise it’s more blue sky and sunshine for the beach lovers and ocean goer’s here on vacation. Currently right now at 1.00pm the temperature outside is around the 33 degree Celsius mark.

Looking for a wave today I’d have to say down south at Uluwatu you’d be finding the best size and power.

Rip Curl GromSearch runs in perfect conditions at Lakey Peak, Sumbawa.

The first leg of the 2010 Rip Curl GromSearch series ran in pumping waves at Lakey Peak Sumbawa this weekend 7th March.

Groms from all around the Lakey area took on the triple overhead conditions in the under 16 division giving the judges a taste of the gutsy talent that is on offer in this region.

The evening before the event kicked off a meeting was called in Lakey Beach Inn where a unanimous decision was reached by the kids– some as young as 9 years old – to hold the main event out at the peak, one of Indonesia’s most perfect waves.

In the morning the crew were greeted with perfect conditions giving Rip Curl Indo’s best team riders the opportunity to put on an amazing free-surfing display of tube riding skill and Ariel antics. Once the tide filled in with more water flooding over the shallow reef, contest officials decided it was time for the first heats of the day to be run.

From the first horn until the end of the Under 16 finals in the early afternoon, local boys ripped the peak to pieces with stand out performances including 10 year old Andri Anwar, an existsting Rip Curl team rider who signed another 2 year contract with Rip Curl during the event weekend.

Dominating the under 16’s division were local boys Bombar, Mansur, Sin and Usman who slayed their way into a 4 man final with impressive late drops flowing turns not to mention the odd tube ride on some of the biggest set waves of the day. However, it was local boy Usman who took first place defeating Mansur in 2nd, Sin in 3rd and Bomar in 4th.

Usman and runner-up Mansur both walked away with tickets to the Rip Curl GromSearch National final to be held during the Rip Curl Surf n music festival at Kuta Beach on October 23rd.

As the tide dropped out in the afternoon main competitors gave a welcome break for the older boys to take to the water for the SKULLCANDY EXPRESSION SESSION with local boy Ornot winning best wave and Firman best trick, both winning the latest Skullcandy headphones for their efforts.

With the Under 16’s and expression session finished the contest site was moved to the beach inside Lakey Pipe where the Under 14’s division was contested in fun 2 foot waves offering some playful sections for the remaining kids.

Winning the under 14’s division was Ompu Imran, with Lakey Irmansyah in 2nd place, M.Sirajudin 3rd and Irfan 4th.

Rip Curl team manager Wayan Yudha said: ‘Were stoked to be welcomed by the local boys here at Lakey to run this event, it gives some of the youngest grommets a taste of competition surfing for the first time in a friendly, fun environment. This event also gives us a chance to look out for new up coming talent as some of Rip Curl’s best team riders have been found during the GromSearch in this region in the past”

****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Howdy folks and time for another location change and the latest news on todays surfing and weather conditions here on everybody’s favorite surfing holiday destination of Bali. Today we were down at Bingin, and before anyone starts emailing saying how I’m giving away secret surfing locations in Bali, Bingin is no secret. Just for the record there arn’t any high quality wave generating surfing locations here in Bali that are secret locations. Trivia dept; there are over 34,500,000. websites dedicated to Bali. But I do gotta say that baliwaves.com was the first to have anything at all to do with surfing.

Ok so we arrived at Bingin around 8.30am with the tide just on the bottom of the Low to find one lone surfer just making his way out to the line-up. At first it looked like it was pretty much flat but after watching for 10 mins the boys couldn’t get down the steps quick enough. Wave height on the set waves were as ya’s can see in these photos I shot averaging around head high with the occassional bigger one every now and again. Not super clean conditions as the wind was coming lightly out of the West ranging between 0-4knot. But still pretty good for this time of the year.

It woulda been a whole lot better with clean off-shore wind, but with the crowd only peaking at 6 surfers, highly unusal for this spot, everyone was happy with what they got. Looking back up to Impossible’s and it was very ordinary and not big enough for the sections to hold up. No surfers on it with 2-3ft waves, mainly closing out.

Weather wise it we had a clear start to the day but around 10.30am some heavy rain fell, lasting a whole 15mins. Then it was humidity city down on the bukit.

That’s about all I got for you today, and tomorrow we’ll have to wait and see what the swell and wind has for us. Looks like some more swell in transit to Bali that should arrive around Thursday.

You could be representing your country at the famous Bells Beach in Australia next year with a place in the national final’s up for grabs for the first and second place Under 16 Rip Curl GromSearch 2010 will take you from your local beach to the world stage of pro surfing… We want to help you to bring your tropical surfing style of jungle rawness to the world stage of surfing at the “Rip Curl Pro”, Bells Beach, Australia.

The first and second place winners of the 16 and under division of each regional event will receive a ticket to the final in Kuta- Bali. The battlegrounds for the ticket to Australia will be set in the middle of Rip Curls Surf and Music festival 2010.

Rip Curl will send the final winner to Bells Beach for the International GromSearch showdown.

The stars of the show are of course the surfers on the Men’s and Women’s ASP World Tours, including new World Champions Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore.

****LATE AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Ok like I said earlier on the 6th we cruised down to see what the swell was doing down at Uluwatu. And as ya’s can see in these photos I shot (50 of) the swell was hitting the Main Peak hard. I may get called a pussy for it, but I reckon some of the bigger set waves were in the solid 6-8ft range : ). No shortage of surfers with around 70+ of em spread from the Main Peak down through the Racetrack. And some very impressive surfing going down. Pity all the Pro’s are stuck on the Gold Coast hey.

Hello surfers and thanks for stopping by the baliwaves.com for our Sunday Session on surfing and weather conditions here on the happy little holiday island of Bali.

This mornings 7.00am surf check on the Outer Reefs here in Tuban was only showing wave height still in the 2-4ft range between Kuta Reef and Airport Left. But with the tide just about on the bottom of the Low. So I’m guessing that as the tide starts to push back in wave height should be increasing with it. I’m calling a lay day today and just hanging out here in Tuban. But tomorrow we’ll be heading to a different location loaded with barrels (fingers crossed).

Surfing conditions were clean and glassy with the wind coming ever so lightly out of the East @ 0-1knot.

Weather wise today in Bali we’ve got more blue sky and sunshine, as Sunday’s should be. Heading for another hot and humid day and the beach is the best place to be (always).

Tidal info has us down for a 0.5mtr Low @ 7.30am and then filling in with a 2.4mtr High around the 2.00pm mark.

Hello crew and welcome to the weekend on baliwaves.com for the latest (only) news on surfing and weather conditions here on the with out a doubt, best value, sure fire, surfing holiday destination of Bali.

Well this mornings surf check on the Outer reefs here in Tuban went down at 6.45am. And it was nice to see plenty of action out there ranging from 2-4ft (waist to well over head) between Kuta reef and Airport Left. The tide was just about on the bottom of a 0.3mtr Low and apart from that surfing conditions were perfect with clean off-shore wind coming out of the ENE @ 4-8knot.

My crew opted for a paddle on Kuta Reef and as ya’s can see in these current photos I shot there was some nice ones coming through. Only 3 other surfers in the water at the time (9.00am) but as the tide filled in it wasn’t long and the numbers were in the low 20’s. I also took a spin around to Middle Reef for a look and there were 11 surfers riding the left handers, with wave height coming through slightly bigger on the sets.

Later this afternoon we are going to take a run down to the Southern end of the island for a late afternoon session. So I’ll add those photos to the current gallery for ya’s.

Weather wise it couldn’t be better here in Bali. Clear blue sky, off-shore wind and waves a plenty. temperature wise she’d have to be around the 32 degree Celsius mark at midday.

No to much out there this morning,
Sorry for no report yesterday but i was up bright and early on the Gold
Coast shooting the Quiky Pro..
Its blowing from the East today at 15-20knots the only place locally to surf
a semi clean wave would be at Byron.The swell is around 2-3 ft.

****AFTERNOON SURF UP-DATE****
Hey crew and thanks for sticking it out for todays news and the latest photos of surfing and weather conditions here on the best darn surfing holiday island of Bali.

Ok so this morning we were up long before the sparrows and on our way up Bali’s highway West. Arriving at Balian just after sunrise to find some nice looking 2-4 footers peeling off on the right hander just South of the river mouth. With slightly more size hitting the A frame in front of the river mouth. Surfing conditions were clean with off-shore wind coming out of the North through until 10.30 when she swung more to the ESE and off-shore back in town. Crowd wise there would have been around 10 on the right hander and another 20 spread over the A frame.

We stopped off at Kuta Reef for a quick look on the way home and the “boys” couldn’t get their boards off the roof quick enough. Surf session No.3 for the day coming up. Kuta Reef had waves peeling off in the chest to well over head sector and clean, clean off-shore wind.
Tomorrow is looking real positive for more waves here in Bali with another increase in size predicted for Sunday. We’ll be keeping it coming to ya’s here on the baliwaves.com so drop in if ya get a chance.

G-Land Job Vacancy; Thanks to everyone who has emailed us here at baliwaves.com and to the camp itself. We’ve got around 100+ aplicants to check out so I think we can consider the position filled. Not too bad a response for only being advertised for the last 18hrs.
