Last year, I decided to take down all my accounts in gay social networking and dating sites.  Some thought that I made that decision because I was already in a relationship and that my newfound lover asked me to take them down.  Wrong.  I only took them down on impulse – with no reasonable reason. Ano ba yung reasonable reason?

I was secretly hoping that Mr. Right (or even just a new Mr. Right Now) would come sweep me off my feet because of what I did.  It did not happen.  Mr. Right didn’t come into my life.  Nor did Mr. Right Now.

So I recently signed up (again) for these gay online social networking cheneses on impulse.  Of course there’s still that hidden desire to find someone for the specific purpose of romantic involvement and someone for carnal pleasures.  But I don’t really bank on these sites to find whatever it is I am looking for.  I’m so over and done with one-night stands and prefer to perform the deed with a little help from my friendly hands.  Marahil ay sasabihin ng iba na pwede na akong maging katulong dahil sa pagmamalinis kong ito, pero dedma.  I’ve been there, been that! Hehe. Just thinking about going through the motions of finding someone to have sexual and/or romantic relations with makes me so exhausted.  Ganito pala pag shumoshonda-rimes-creator-of-greys-anatomy na tayo. Dedmalyn cream na sa paghahanap ng lulurkey.

I don’t need a man to be happy.  Charot Santos-Concio. I’m happy being single. Well at least that’s what I think now.  I’m sure that one of these days, I will be attacked by a deluge of emo crap. Besides, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.

“Ano ka ba, para kang bakla,” said my high school classmate to me after I did (or said) something (which I now forget).

“Bakla naman talaga ako eh. Hindi mo alam?” was my response. One said to another: “Eh ikaw kase, di ka nag-o-online at wala kang Facebook kaya di mo alam.”

There were a few awkward glances and stares from some of my former classmates. Apparently, I forgot that not everyone from my high school class knew that I have already come out years prior to this reunion.  We had a reunion in 2003 (or was that 2004?) but I wasn’t out then.  Thanks to Friendster (then) and Facebook (now), I didn’t have to come out yet again.  And I guess we have all grown mature that no one grilled me with follow-up questions about my sexuality.  It was understood.

This high school reunion, 12 years after graduation, made me realize a lot of things.  Everyone grows old, but not everyone grows up. Some grow physically bigger, while others stay as slim and slender (like me!) as they were in high school.  I also realized that my high school friends are not my current friends and vice-versa. Their wavelengths are so different from each other.  I almost forgot this until I realized that some of my current antics do not really work for the old friends.  The oddest realization I had from this reunion was that we all were growing old.  I was growing old!  Most of the people in the reunion already had kids, with an S!  Plural!  One of them even has four kids!

I wonder how things will be in 2018, the twentieth anniversary of our high school graduation.  Many things will change, I know.  But one thing is for sure, I’ll still be gay.

The plot seems reminiscent of Joey Gosiengfiao’s Temptation Island.  But I don’t really care.  They had me at Daniel Matsunaga and Fabio Ide. The film is actually currently being shot at Caramoan Island in Camarines Sur and I can’t wait to see the film this March!

This, for me, would be the year of living dangerously. Or something like that. I didn’t have good relations with the year 2009 so I’m left with no choice but to grab 2010 by the neck and pound it hardly so I can get what I want out of it.

I have changed. Whether it’s for the better, I don’t know for sure. What I’m sure of is that I will take everything that comes my way and make sure I get something out of it.

I had so much fun at the FabCasters’ Beginnings Party. It was great to have seen my fellow FabCasters again (after a long time, since I have been perennially absent during recordings). It was also nice to have seen and made chika with other gay blogger friends and long-lost friends, too.

We were on Patron Tequila and Soju and red wine, so you could just imagine how drunk people were. I haven’t drank in a while and I the last time I got drunk was something I couldn’t even remember. So this party was my way of saying hello to 2010. I have not consumed that much alcohol after I got sick so this party was my “buhos” party. I love getting drunk (don’t we all?). I’m just not sure if people around me are happy when I am.

This party was hot. Hot like hell. People at the party were going to hell. At least that was what was coming out of my drunken mouth. I went around and asked people if they were gay: “Bakla ka ba?” If they said yes, I’d tell them that they were going to hell. We’re all going to hell.

Over the weekend, a send-off party was thrown for our good friend Migs the Manila Guy as he begins a new life in the US. This is one of the saddest things that happened and I know for sure that Migs will be terribly missed around here. FabCasts will never be the same without you!

I missed the party because I woke up super late. The good thing about me not being able to go and attend the party was that I didn’t have to say goodbye to Migs. I hate goodbyes. The bad thing about me not being able to go and attend the party was that I missed out on Soju and the ngala-ngala action!

That same night, I received an SMS from a friend inviting me to go to Bed. I was hesitant at first but I eventually agreed to going. Besides, I have not been to Bed in a while. The last time was like July 2009! And yes, I got drunk again! I think Bed is one of the best places (for me) to get drunk since it’s easier to egg people to make out with each other. Add to that the fact that no one will ever get offended if you told them they were going to hell because they were gay. Fun times.

So yes, ladies and gentlemen, I’m going to hell. See you there?

Dear 2010,
Yesterday I was at home wondering what you would be like. I didn’t have an idea as to what you would look like or what you had to offer me.  All I knew was that I hoped you were different and you would make me a better person. And after meeting you earlier today, I knew that was true.
I will not give you a list of things that I will do or change about myself for us to be happy together.  Instead, I will just go through each day with you one step at a time.  I will not ask you to make me grow as that is not what you’re here for.  All I can offer us both is hope.  I know somewhere along the way we’ll have our share of heartaches and disappointment about our lives, but I believe that we will get through it.  We will survive.

After a very very long time, I’m back.

I don’t really know why but I became too lazy to update this blog in the past couple of months. Maybe it’s because of the gastrointestinal disaster that hit me or maybe it’s because of so many other things that happened to my life. One thing I’m sure of is that I have transformed from being an Internet addict to a not-so-addict (adik pa rin!)! Oh and yeah, I have also transformed from being a busy chimney to a non-smoker.

The previous year was not good to me. I was optimistic about it and said that 2009 was going to be my year.  But it did not cooperate with me. I survived it though. I survived post-breakup pains, the move back in with the parents, the saying goodbye to independent life, the cancer scare, the post-quitting-smoking withdrawal, and the gastrointestinal disaster.

I learned a lot in 2009 – about myself and about the world. Life is short and may be unfair, but we all need to learn to live with it.

And I don’t really make too much sense right now.

Days after the Century Corned Tuna Bloggers’Cook Off, I was still thinking about our winning pasta. I was replaying in my mind and air-tasting the delectable Asian-inspired dish. So when I went to SM Makati, I bought the ingredients that I didn’t have and headed home excitedly.

I went online to check the recipe, then starting measuring – approximating and assuming the correct measurements for each ingredient. Or so I thought.

All the ingredients were ready, the pasta almost cooked, and I – excited to start cooking the pasta sauce. The first few steps were fine. Until I got to the liquids. Apparently, I over-estimated the measurements and put in too much white wine and soy sauce, which made the whole thing taste sour and salty. Too sour and too salty. I immediately

went for the only remedy I know: add water and let it simmer. When it did not taste too sour and too salty anymore (just sour and salty), I decided to add in a big can of Century Corned Tuna.  My initial ingredients list included two small tall cans of Century Corned Tuna Chili.

Recreating the dish was not as simple as I thought it would be!  I blame it on the white wine and the soy sauce. Blame it on the miso too!  The miso that I was able to purchase from SM was so different from the one that we used at the cook-off. And I was looking for that very distinct taste in the pasta sauce which I knew was brought on by the miso.

After several minutes of mixing and simmering, I decided to call it quits with the sauce and that no matter how it tasted, I’d stand up for it. If people didn’t like how it tasted, then let them be. And oh, I added some rosemary to the sauce right before taking it out of the stove.

I left the pasta and the sauce, and a plated serving on the dining table for people at home to grab some if they felt like it. My mom, without instruction nor favor, took the plated serving and ate it. I was surprised when she told me she liked it.  I asked her again.  Seriously, I knew my “disaster recreation dish” didn’t really taste that good, but I was glad my mom liked it.

I can never be a good cook… unless I have a beautiful kitchen and I have all the ingredients I need, and I have all the things that need chopping, slicing and dicing, etc. done for me.  In short, I can never be a good cook nor a good chef, but I can be a fantabulous cooking show host! Now that’s a good shift in career.

In a not-so surprising turn of events, the Commission on Elections has yet again denied Ang Ladlad’s application for party-list accreditation. And this time, the reason is immorality.

Ang Ladlad’s own petition indicating intimate same-sex relations, brought that decision upon itself.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has rejected the petition of a group representing the “third sex” to be accredited for the party list on the ground that it “tolerates immorality, which offends religious beliefs.”

In an 8-page resolution, the Comelec cited the Ang Ladlad LGBT’s advocacy of sexual immorality with same-sex relationships.

The group–which claims to represent lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and trans-genders–brought the unfavorable decision upon itself. In its petition for accreditation, it described itself as representative of a marginalized and under-represented sector that is particularly disadvantaged because of their sexual orientation and gender identity.

Moreover, it defined the sexual orientation of the sector it is representing as capable of “profound emotional, affectional, and sexual orientation to, and intimate and sexual relations with, individuals of a different gender, of the same gender, or more than one gender.”

Thus, the Comelec’s resolution that “the definition of LGBT sector makes it crystal clear that petitioners tolerates immorality which offends religious beliefs.”

The resolution quoted passages from the Bible and the Koran about God showing his wrath against people who engage in same sex relationship.
Protecting the youth

Although Republic Act 7941, the party list law, doesn’t specifically list down immorality as a ground for banning a group from the party list, its Section 6.2 is indicative. It says that a group may be denied party-list participation if “it advocates violence or unlawful means to seek its goal.”

The Comelec’s law department said that laws should be incorporated in all contracts, permits, license, including accreditations. In the case of Ang Ladlad, the group collides with the provision of the Civil Code and the Revised Penal Code. Comelec said that Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code penalizes immoral doctrines, among them publicly expounding or proclaiming doctrines openly contrary to public morality. While Article 1409 of the Civil Code considers as void contracts whose purpose is contrary to morals and good customs.

“Should this Commission grant the petition, we will be exposing our youth to an environment that does not conform to the teachings of our faith…. As an agency of the government, ours too is the State’s avowed duty to protect our youth from moral and spiritual degradation,” the resolution said.

Ang Ladlad, through its president Danton Remoto, called the Comelec’s decision unfounded and based solely on religious beliefs.

“This is a decision by a very old man with obsolete ideas on homosexuality. They quoted something from the Internet, and did not even visit the library to research. This is an evidence of intellectual bankruptcy,” he said, adding that Comelec did not arbitrate based on evidence and documents, but just quoted verses from the Bible.

Remoto belied that they are advocating immorality, but they are supporting human rights for all.

He said Ang Ladlad is set to file a motion for reconsideration, but is expecting the Comelec to junk their appeal. Remoto said they will also bring their petition to the Supreme Court.

If all else fails, Remoto said he will run for a senatorial seat next year to prove that Ang Ladlad has the support of the sector he represents.

In 2007, the Comelec junked Ang Ladlad’s petition for accreditation for its failure to disclose the scope of its membership. The group claimed to be a national party, but field offices of the Comelec said that the group didn’t have chapters in most regions of the country. (Newsbreak)

I have already deleted my accounts in most of the gay social networking and dating sites about two months ago. This means that I should no longer be seen on sites like PlanetRomeo, Downelink, Connexion, Gaydar, Gay.com, etc.

However, recently, an office friend told me that he saw me on PlanetRomeo. I told him that I don’t have an account there anymore and that he probably saw it some two months ago. He retorted and said that it was fairly recent that he saw me there. Or at least he thought it was me. Apparently, someone thinks I’m goodlooking enough that they used my photo for their accounts.

So my dear friends who are on PlanetRomeo, if you see a profile with a photo of me, it only means one thing, the guy is an impostor!

To the impostors who use my photo, thanks. At least someone thinks I’m goodlooking enough to use my photo for the betterment of their dating and sex lives.
