Well, 2011 will see much more action from your favorite destination for weird pork and Jewish culture. Coming January 29th will be extensive coverage of the BEER, BOURBON & BBQ FESTIVAL here in NYC! Also, I'll be recapping the PADDY LONG'S BEER & BACON TASTING from my trip to Chicago back in November and of course trying to pimp out my KOSHER KLOTHING to the masses.

Thanks for sticking around while I slacked...I promise some awesomeness this year!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 109px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/TS_0nRJYcRI/AAAAAAAABJc/3Hx1hMH2trI/s320/manhattan_header_2011.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561933020280680722" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 212px; height: 250px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/TS_0nxgnLHI/AAAAAAAABJk/s1QHN7_06jM/s320/PaddyPig.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561933028968049778" />

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 150px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/TS_0nCVgT5I/AAAAAAAABJU/uQPZnipLlX4/s320/jcv1xVS4Un1zvbtw4Up3oPTJo1_r1_500.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5561933016304996242" />

17 FACTS ABOUT BACON

In case you didn't know...see below for the first few, then click HERE to see the whole thing

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 183px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/TITtBVkuplI/AAAAAAAAA9M/TIqT6RK_uZ4/s320/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5513792451035178578" />

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL BACON DAY

I've been slacking here on BaconJew lately, but I wanted to wish everyone a very happy pork-filled holiday weekend. It's hearty, it's tasty, it's not kosher, it's perfect....well, what I thought was perfect. THE BAGEL STORE in Brooklyn has taken it a step further and actually baked in bacon, egg and cheddar into a bagel! I haven't ventured across the East River to try it yet...but next time I wake up randomly in some shiksa's bed in Williamsburg, I will be sure to get one.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 171px; height: 234px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/S64BgR0re6I/AAAAAAAAA3M/_JueAYUUjdk/s320/bagel.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5453297852844047266" />

The Bagel Store
754 Metropolitan Ave
(at Graham Ave)
Brooklyn, NY 11211

LARRYDAVHEAD

I just bought this shirt...it's genius...you should buy one too

Thanks to my friends at METALSUCKS.NET for telling me about it. For those of you in NYC, you might be familiar with CUNY75, a local TV station from the City University Of New York. A few months ago, one of their shows called INDEPENDENT SOURCES, interviewed me for a segment on Jews and pork. Well, it made their best of 2009 special!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/Sz9nqn5Q6MI/AAAAAAAAAyU/oufkfTdJbEY/s320/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422166458338699458" />

Any of you can check it out by clicking the logo below (and you can forward to the 24 minute mark to see me in all my TV glory)

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 178px; height: 45px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/Sz9mC6kV-gI/AAAAAAAAAyM/Vc-sBrmW-Dg/s320/topbar_04.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5422164676644829698" />

BACON DESSERTS

For those of you not sick yet of eating holiday cookies and cake...HERE is a link to some recipes, courtesy of NPR (yeah, we are cultured like that sometimes).

My favorite being the Peanut Butter-Maple Bacon Fudge

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 225px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/Szdo_Te-bUI/AAAAAAAAAyE/QxpALciJLFI/s320/baconfudge.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419916113334922562" />

Makes 49 squares

12 strips maple-smoked bacon, with 2 strips reserved for garnish

1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1/2 cup peanut butter chips

1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

4 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 teaspoon maple extract

Coat an 8-inch-square pan with cooking spray.

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook bacon, turning several times, until browned and done, 6 to 8 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Chop finely. Reserve 2 of the chopped slices for garnish.

Combine all ingredients except bacon in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir continuously until chips and butter are melted, and mixture is thick and smooth. Remove from heat. Stir in bacon.

Pour into prepared pan. Sprinkle the reserved chopped bacon on top and lightly press with your fingertips. Cover with aluminum foil and chill in the refrigerator until firm, at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight.

Slice into 7 equal rows to create 49 squares. It's a good idea to use a ruler to ensure equal-sized pieces. Serve at about room temperature.

A "RARE" BACON EXPERIENCE...

Ok, so this isn't much about bacon as it is about burgers. I was lucky enough to be invited by Rev from BURGER CONQUEST to head to RARE BAR & GRILL in NYC for a "burger tasting". These were honestly some of the best burgers I've ever had...and two of the three burgers tasted had some of the most amazing apple smoked bacon ever to grace a burger.

The best being the "M&M Burger" which is their classic flambeed in Makers Mark, topped with caramelized shallots, cheddar cheese & of course, apple smoked bacon (served slider style for this special event).

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/Sy99affQz7I/AAAAAAAAAxs/kzCyNOV5gUQ/s320/RARE+121409+005.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5417686770832691122" />

Read all the juicy details about the burgers and the event by clicking the banner:
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 40px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/Sy9984r6nXI/AAAAAAAAAx0/XL_mmgD7rUI/s320/BC-Web-header.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5417687361712201074" />

CELEBRATE HANUKKAH WITH SOME BACON CHEESEBURGER SAUSAGE

Thank you to The Meat Hook in Brooklyn for this genius concoction. What, you didn't know there were metal bands in the Middle East? Well, one that you need to check out is ORPHANED LAND. Their new record, The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR hits stores on February 9th, 2010 (Jan 25th overseas).

Although the band is from Israel, they are looking to unite all of Middle East - no matter the country or religion - through their music. And to top it all off, they have one of the most striking publicity photos I've ever seen portraying this unity.

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 253px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_1lUFVy4jVps/SwR-vA3TE9I/AAAAAAAAAuM/mjQFa3xEMSc/s320/Orphaned.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405584798902326226" />

Vocalist Kobi Farhi comments on the album’s concept and the striking new promo photo as follows: “First of all, I wish to thank each and every one of you for all the comments you left for our new band photo. The comments were from Jews, Christians and Muslims as one, you all know that this unification is what we’re all about..."

Farhi continues: "The Never Ending Way of ORwarriOR is a concept album revolving around a hero: the warrior of light. This hero isn't someone specific, but could be the listener of the album himself, as this album deals with the problems we are facing in our lives every day. Especially here, in the Middle East, we feel that we are trapped in a loop of confusion and darkness. Living in this region, we see that year after year nothing changes. People continue to die in useless wars and we are trapped in a bloody circle. ORPHANED LAND has been around for 18 years and we continue to sing about the same subjects and stories, because after 18 years we are still living in a tragic, orphaned land. To fight this tragedy we have chosen a peaceful, yet powerful weapon: our music.”

If you want to check out another great article on the band, check out the story my fellow Jewish bloggers over at METALSUCKS did by clicking HERE
