I'm working for Google now, so I'm going to try out picasa (our photo sharing service) instead of flickr. Gives me an excuse to catch up on posting photos. Here are some from earlier this year (may to be exact).

Susan is tantalizingly close to finishing her dissertation. She just survived her second PC meltdown of this process last week. But no data was lost and she's got a brand new macbook to show for it.

Caleb's first sledding adventure

I took Caleb out to the local sledding hill today (Susan's birthday). He's not sold on it yet but I wanted to give him a taste before the good snow melts. Its been a long winter.

Lots of action in the Adams household this month. Nolan is back in school now after a two week winter break. Caleb is starting to crawl so Nolan's toys are now fair game; maybe he'll start cleaning up after himself now (ya right).

I've ridden my bike to work 3 of 5 days so far this year, both to improve my fitness and to avoid the awful experience of riding the CTA these days. I started doing it last fall, and have been pretty good about keeping it up over the winter as long as it isn't raining or snowing. Saved about $60 in train fare so far which I'm going to use to buy some new pedals for my bike.

Susan is only weeks away from proposing her dissertation to her committee which means the majority of the paper is done and she is freaking out. Lots of late nights and weekends locked in our bedroom while I keep the kids at bay. Which, as you'll see from this video isn't so easy.

Dolphins, Stingrays and Komodo, oh my!

Today I took Caleb and Nolan to the aquarium. It is the day before Thanksgiving; we are staying in town but I took the day off anyway so that their mom could put in some hours on her dissertation. She is getting close to being done even though she won’t say as much. Quite an accomplishment for a woman with a 6 month old and a 3 year old; but Caleb helps by being such a good baby.

The aquarium was a lot of fun. We went straight down to the underwater viewing of the dolphins so that Nolan could eat his sandwich and share a bag of popcorn with me. Caleb were a good sport and played on the ground and watched the dolphins swim by now and then. When he managed to catch sight of one, he was pretty excited about them. We spent some time with the lizards next…Caleb liked the Komodo Dragon but a lot of the time I think he was just looking at the interesting plants and other scenery in the exhibits. We finished up in the rivers exhibit, almost three hours in total.

Getting back to the car was a bit of an ordeal. It was raining and very windy by the lake. I had Caleb in the stroller with a cover strapped around him but it didn’t provide enough coverage. A school bus driver yelled at me that Caleb was getting too wet; I think I was just toughening him up. Nolan was on my shoulders in a lightweight shell. We were all getting pelted with sideways rain and a 35 mph wind. When crossing the road to get to our car, a driver ignored a stop sign and nearly ran us over. I used some choice words that are OK to say in front of a 6 month old, but not an almost 4 year old…hopefully Nolan was too distracted by the wind. By the time we got to the car, both boys were cold, wet, and crying. But they calmed down quickly in the car. This was a good warm up (HA!) to get used to this kind of weather since its going to get a hell of a lot colder yet this winter. On the ride home, both boys fell asleep and I turned the radio off and enjoyed a blissfully silent drive home through the rain on Lake Shore Drive.

He'd rolled over once or twice before this, but he figured it out for real today. Here's the latest footage. He must be trying to pump up his baby credentials for his visitors this upcoming weekend (four generations of Adams in one condo, scary).

We've got a big backlog of photos and video to load. Doing better than I had expected at actually capturing moments, about as well as I expected with getting them on the site to be viewed by everyone. Nonetheless, this is one we took last week and is too cute to keep to ourselves.

Caleb is 8 weeks old today and munching away on his hand in his crib as I type. Nolan is ostensibly asleep but you never know for sure with him. Hopefully tonight will be another night like last night where both boys were asleep before 10 and neither woke up before 5:30. Huzzah!

Nolan, boy after my own heart is an ice cream connoisseur. We've got a ready supply in the frreezer and take frequent advantage of the many ice cream purveyors in the neighborhood.

We spent a weekend at a friend's place in Wisconsin last weekend. Very relaxing although not exactly RESTFUL...such is the life of parents of two.

We've had all the visitors - thanks Moms!!! - we'll have for a while and we're settling into a nice routine (I hope). Caleb isn't always as gluttinous as this picture would suggest. But he is a big and growing boy...23 1/2 inches and 11 lbs at last count about ten days ago.

Here are some of the photos from delivery day, May 10. Nolan and I are home today; I'll be going back to the hospital for a couple hours tonight and we'll both head down tomorrow morning to pick up Susan and Caleb.

Nolan told me that he is going to teach Caleb how to pause the TV so he can use the potty (I guess he's going to teach him to use the potty too).

Introducing Caleb Ross Adams (fka Fromage), born May 10 2007 at 6:21 am. He weighed in at 9lbs and 2oz, 21 inches tall. We're all well, happy, and tired.

Chicago is cold, especially lately. This is Nolan during a cold snap in December, but the last month has been even worse. Lots of stuff to catch up on but if you haven't heard, Nolan is getting a little brother at the beginning of May. More to come...

And So It Begins

I will also be posting a short video of Nolan's birthday. We are slowly accepting the fact that he is a boy. The bed is in the mail.

Yesterday he helped me install a new microwave by not get squished while underfoot. It was so cold here that he actually let me keep a scarf around him on the way to our music class. His teacher also teaches in the public schools here and is up for some big award, good luck Sandy.

Getting back in the swing of things

October was a crazy month. It started with my brother's wedding and finished with us moving for what seemed like 4 solid weeks. We are by and large settled and are enjoying our new home. Pictures of the new place will be forthcoming but for now, enjoy this video from the wedding. It is my first experiment with editing so excuse the crude and jarring cuts :)

As the World Turns

It has been far too long since I've posted, for this I apologize. Last August, I upgraded the software that produces the blog. Unfortunately, the upgrade corrupted a bunch of data and I never found the time to fix it. I have since been able to recover all of the comments and posts, but have abandoned the old platform. This new platform should suffice for my purposes and I'll be trying a few different techniques for publishing photos to alleviate the burden on my own resources as well as to introduce a few new features.

Susan, Nolan and I are doing well. We had a very busy summer, especially the past month. I have tons of photos to add to the site which I will be doing periodically over the next couple weeks so stay tuned. Until then, here are some very recent photos to tide you over.
