The band took its name from a prostitute who allegedly mutilated and decapitated her clients. They recorded and released there first album, Molly Hatchet in 1978, followed by Flirtin' with Disaster in 1979. Danny Joe Brown's stage persona, gruff voice and cowboy horse-whistling had matched well with the overtly southern-influenced sounds of his era. Danny Joe Brown defined the act to that point, left the band at the end of the 1970s only to return a number of years later. The band reached the height of its fame in the 1970s with ten charting albums released in that decade. Their style is punctuated by multiple guitar players and the raspy voice and on-stage antics of vocalist Jim "Dandy" Mangrum. Clutch formed in 1990 and built a local following through constant live performances. The musical style of the band has migrated from heavy metal and hardcore punk to hard rock. This was quite a while ago. He served admirably in 2 Austin bands of the early emo's period in Austin (Loud Posse and Horsethief). He went off on his own to play a low form and mixture of blues and country and raucus roll. He plays old, beat-up guitars, either acoustic or electric, either standard tuning or slide. Lots of people don't like his shit or maybe they just don't care. Some people like it alright, he guesses, but whatever. Ernest was one of the biggest stars in country music history who amassed no fewer than 82 hits between 1944 and 1979. Poor ol’ Lucky is going to enjoy about 82 hits fewer than that, not because he’s bad, in fact he’s good, very good, but he suffers from the modern day syndrome of being too country. Let’s be honest, his Uncle Ernie would be laughed out of Nashville nowadays with his chiseled looks and un-CMT vocals delivery. Lucky Tubb is very much his own man. He’s lived a troublesome life and has his own story to tell. The band was formed shortly after Leslie West, formerly of the Long Island R&B band The Vagrants, recorded a solo album titled Mountain with bassist and former Cream collaborator Felix Pappalardi. The album also featured former Remains drummer N.D. Smart. It was decided to name the band Mountain after Leslie West's immense size. West's raw vocals and melodic and bluesy guitar style and Pappalardi's heavy and elegant bass lines were the elements of Mountain's distinctive sound.
