Path to Tallebudgerra Beach

The path here actually leads to a breakwater that protects the estuary of Tallebudgerra Creek. The beach sand can be seen in the foreground.

I took this shot right into the afternoon sun with my little Fuji F30 compact camera. There was sea mist in the air but I added some diffuse glow in processing.

I would have liked the composition better if the woman near the center was a little more to the left. Alas my timing was slightly late :-/

I think I'll upload this one for the Photo Friday 'softness' theme.

Fisherman at Burleigh Heads

Back to digital after the last two images which were film shots. Today's upload is of a fisherman at Burleigh Heads. He's a little distant in the scene but it was really the late sun catching on the clouds out to sea was that caught my attention.

I've been a bit busy with other things requiring my attention lately so my visiting of other blogs is a little behind. I will catch up soon.

Cape Bruny Lighthouse - Tasmania

I'm posting another film shot, this time taken on Bruny Island in South Eastern Tasmania sometime in the 1980's. The same camera, Asahi Pentax SV, as in the previous photo was used. The film was Kodak CP 100. The negative is not in good condition and I had to clean up quite a few of the worst scratches in PS but as can be seen, I didn't remove all of them.

In my sailing days, I have anchored overnight in the sheltered waters of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel behind cape Bruny and enjoyed seeing the loom of its light sweep past in the darkness.

I've also had the experience of being shown the view from the top by the lighthouse keeper when it used to be manned. Miles out to sea, through powerful binoculars, huge swells could be seen crashing over a lone rocky island. I understand the lighthouse ceased operation in 1996.

Outback Queensland - Road to Opalton

From archives again, this scene was shot on film in the afterglow of sunset in outback Queensland near the remote outpost of Opalton. The photo was posted once before but I wanted to do a full page version this time. I don't have a record of the film type.

The camera used was an Asahi Pentax SV, known in the US under the name of Honeywell. Unfortunately, this camera developed shutter problems and has been retired.

I took this photo in the mid to late 90's. There is nothing out here, just flat land and scrub. Shortly after this was captured, dozens of Kangaroos appeared and driving was very stressful. I wanted to return to some semblance of civilization but my progress was made excruciatingly slow due to these animals bounding across in front of my car.

Street Scene - Manly

Many photos fade into the past and reside in hard disk archive folders. I have posted a smaller version of this scene quite some time ago but wanted to include it along with my current experimental large size blog images.

It was one of those magic afternoons when the light and atmosphere are just right for photography. This street scene was shot in the Sydney seaside suburb of Manly. I lived in that Australian metropolis for about four decades and thought it might be nice to revisit some of those memories through my photos.

Sea Watchers - Currumbin

As a change from the recent black & white landscapes, I have posted this photo which depicts sea watchers; local people from Currumbin, who have gathered to watch the ocean and dusk sky as the urban lights gradually come to life along the coastline.

I am trying an experiment in posting large size photos on this blog. I have seen other sites with full screen images and thought they looked impressive, enveloping the viewer in an immersive experience. Many PC users have large screen monitors nowadays so it might be nice to take advantage of that trend.

It was necessary to make a template change to accomplish this so I modified an 'Horizon' theme for the purpose.

I'd be interested in anyone's comments and opinions, good or bad, about this style of presentation.

The fourth landscape image in the Burleigh Head National Park series showing yet more views of Pandanas palms but here on a steeper part of the headland. I was happy to catch those sweet little white clouds in this shot as well.

From the seaward side towards the summit of the headland, this is another view of the steep landscape in Burleigh Head National Park. The trees on the left are Pandanas Palms. The image is a simulated infrared rendition.

A Pandanas palm viewed on the steep slope of Burleigh Head National Park headland. Just to the left is the Pacific Ocean, the foreshore of which attracts the eye of many photographers but on this excursion I chose to shoot the landscape.

With this image, I'm starting a series of landscape scenes taken in Burleigh Head National Park. This small area of land, 27 hectares, is situated on a prominent headland between the sea and Gold Coast suburbia. Pandanas palms and tussock grassland feature in quite a few of the shots.
