Moving forward on its commitment to improve the lives of local communities in Rajasthan, India’s largest Science-based Ayurveda specialist Dabur

Moving forward on its commitment to improve the lives of local communities in Rajasthan, India’s largest Science-based Ayurveda specialist Dabur India Ltd today announced the expansion of its community development drive in the state with the adoption of four Government schools in Rajasthan – two in Newai and two in Alwar. Dabur has pledged to improve the overall infrastructure in these four schools this year in Rajasthan with the intent of improving the overall learning environment for children in rural Rajasthan.

As part of the revamp, Dabur has created new and separate sanitation facilities for both boys and girls, in addition to creating a drinking water facility, and upgrading the school infrastructure with BaLA (Building as Learning Aid) paintings. The revamped Government Senior Secondary School, Banasthali, Newai, District Tonk, was handed over to the school and district administration at a function held at Newai.

The development work was carried out through Dabur’s CSR arm Jivanti Welfare & Charitable Trust and an independent development agency SURE (Society to Uplift Rural Economy).

Addressing the gathering, Dabur India Ltd Head-CSR Mr. A Sudhakar said: “Dabur is committed to making a positive contribution to to a more sustainable future for India. As part of this mission, we have been working towards improving the learning environment for children in backward areas across the country. We understand that schools are foundations for imparting education to the younger generation. At Dabur, we believe that education is both the means to a better life and a key to ensure overall development of the society. In a bid to improve enrollment levels and reduce the dropout rates in rural and semi-urban schools, Dabur has taken up the onus of improving the infrastructure in schools and improving the learning experience for children in rural India. This revamp exercise in Rajasthan is a part of this mission.”

The revamp initiative in these schools would benefit a total of over 1,900 students. The school revamp was undertaken after detailed discussions with the school authorities and keeping their specific needs in mind.

“After a detailed survey of the region, these four schools were identified as the initial beneficiaries for our Education-led CSR interventions in Rajasthan. After discussions with the school administration and local authorities, we commenced a host of development activities in the school. Our intention is to develop and support these schools as Model Schools for the region,” Mr. A Sudhakar said.

The school building and classrooms have been completely revamped and messages related to Health, Hygiene and Education have been painted on the walls under the Building as Learning Aid (BaLA) programme.

“Access to basic education is the most fundamental right of any child. But an equally important right is access to basic and hygienic sanitation facilities and a healthy learning environment in schools. Going forward, Dabur India Ltd plans to roll out a host of development initiatives aimed at improving the livelihood of rural populace, particularly women and children, in the region,” Mr. Sudhakar said.

Medical Technology Association of India, which represents leading research-based medical technology companies with significant investments in India, today said that the government’s move to set up specialist committees to review package rates for more than 1300 health procedures under AB-PMJAY gives a chance to correct the currently low and unviable rates for several procedures.

“Setting up of committees to evaluate the current package rates under AB-PMJAY is a step in the right direction. However, we hope for inclusion of all stakeholders in these crucial decisions to adequately address all concerns. The current AB-PMJAY procedure rates are quite low. For several procedures, the rates are even lower than those of CGHS, making them unviable. It has been a long-standing request from hospitals as well as the MedTech industry for revision of these rates,” said Pavan Choudary, Chairman & Director General, MTaI.

“Unlike CGHS, the cost of medical device is subsumed in AB-PMJAY package cost. The industry looks forward to this re-evaluation exercise and hopes that the government will consider segregating the device cost from the procedure cost to ensure that the basic minimum quality of devices is maintained.”

“We also urge the government to promote patient choice and access by allowing them to top-up, if they wish to upgrade and go for a higher quality of device or procedure,” Choudary added.

A recent survey conducted by Policybazaar.com indicates that millennials between the age-group of 22-35 years have better assessment of their protection needs, when it comes to buying health covers which shields them adequately. The survey reveals increasing number of millennials i.e. about 6 out of 10 are opting for health plans with higher sum insured in upwards of Rs. 5L up to 1 crore. The survey took into account the buying behaviour of 10,000+ millennials purchasing health insurance policies across 15 states in India.

Study suggests, proportion of policies bought by millennials with sum insured of 10L and beyond has more than doubled in the past 5 years, surging from 8.4% to 17.8%. Meanwhile, the Rs. 5 lakh health cover has today become the new Rs. 3 lakh mark for millennials, as nearly a whopping 41% of them are going for this sum insured. The survey also indicates that proportion of health covers purchased by millennials with sum insured of Rs. 5 lakhs up to <10 lakh has experienced a growth of 20% in last 5 years. The data clearly depicts how millennials today have prioritised purchasing a bigger coverage to protect themselves from future health problems arising from their existing lifestyle.

The latest trend of shifting preference towards buying policies with higher sum insured is in sharp contrast to the millennial buying trends five years back, when Rs. 3 lakhs and 2 lakhs were the most sought after health cover marks. The survey indicates a dip in the total proportion of policies bought with lower sum insured. While the drop in the share of policies bought with SI of less than Rs. 3 Lakh is 38%, for those with SI between Rs. 3 to <5 Lakh is 22%. The changing trend clearly establishes how millennials today are wary of the risks that the existing lifestyle poses on their health and hence better understand the importance of protection against diseases.

In terms of age related findings, proportion of health covers with SI of 10 lakh & beyond bought by millennials in the age bracket of 22-25 years has gone up from 4.7% to 16.8% in the past 5 years. Similarly, share of policies bought with SI in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to <10 lakhs also witnessed a growth of 13%, 28% and 17% across the 3-age groups respectively. This buying behaviour clearly denotes how millennials today are prudent and mindful of their own health protection needs.

Commenting on the study findings, Amit Chhabra, Health Insurance, Business Unit Head, Policybazaar.com, said, “A sudden medical emergency at any point in time poses a huge threat to one’s accumulated corpus if he/she doesn’t have an adequate health cover. Keeping this in mind, buying a health insurance while you are young is not only affordable but also makes sure that you stay financially secured against any medical emergency. With medical inflation rising at double-digit pace, millennials are now looking for health insurance plans with higher sum insured and add-ons like global coverage, OPD covers, and maternity cover to make the policy way more comprehensive.”

While focusing on city-wise trend another major finding of the study revealed that millennials of Delhi-NCR are the highest contributors to health insurance policies with higher sum insured. Nearly, 29% of all health policies with higher SI have been bought by millennials in the last 5 years across the age group of 22-35 years. Bengaluru ranks second with a 9% market share in terms of health policies bought over last 5 years. Among Tier-2 cities, Ahmedabad and Jaipur are the leading cities where millennials have purchased maximum health plans from the year 2014 to 2019.
