National Front lays wreaths at Cenotaph

The National Front has laid wreaths at the Cenotaph in a move which the Royal British Legion said "desecrated" the monument to Britain's war dead.

Hundreds of members of the far Right party marched through the streets of Westminster to the London memorial on Remembrance Sunday. It emerged last night that they placed four poppy wreaths following the official ceremony attended by the Queen.

The Royal British Legion last night condemned the act saying that they had not been given permission to place the tributes, which were laid alongside those presented by Gordon Brown, the prime minister, and David Cameron, the Tory leader.

Robert Lee, the legion's spokesman said: "This is a terrible and unfortunate desecration of one of the nation's most important and treasured monuments.

"There was no official formation representing the National Front at the ceremony in any shape or form.

"Someone must have come there afterwards and placed these wreaths on the official pile."

A news item on the party's website reported that more than 200 members had marched from Victoria in London to the historic site on Sunday.

It said that the event "passed off with dignity and peacefully" despite threats of disruption.

It said the group observed a two minute silence at the Cenotaph before members laid the wreaths on behalf of the main, ex-servicemen's, youth, and Yorkshire branches of the party.

It concludes saying the march was a "sure sign of a revitalised and resurgent NF".

The Department for Culture, Media and Sport, which organises the official ceremony at the Cenotaph, said the National Front had not been allocated an official place for wreaths but had not broken any rules by leaving them later. continues here

Denmark offers immigrants £12,000 to return home

Denmark has increased by tenfold the amount of money offered to immigrants who return home permanently to 100,000 kroner (£12,000), officials said on Monday

The centre-Right minority government reached an agreement with its key ally, the far-Right Danish People's Party (DPP), on the issue late on Sunday as part of their 2010 budget negotiations.

A financial incentive of 11,000 kroner had until now been offered to immigrants to resettle in their country of origin.

The scheme is aimed at immigrants from outside the European Union and Nordic countries, DPP deputy leader Peter Skaarup told AFP.

"It in practice targets those nationals from non-Western countries who are struggling to adapt to Danish society and who would be tempted by a fairly significant sum to go back home forever," he said.

Mr Skaarup said those taking up the offer would receive 11,000 kroner up front.

The remainder of the 100,000 kroner would be paid out once they surrendered their Danish residency permits, he added.

The agreement also calls for 20 million kroner in aid to city councils in charge of integrating immigrants, to help them "motivate" foreigners to return home.

According to the refugee, immigrant and integration ministry, some 2,524 people have voluntarily left Denmark since 1997, when the repatriation programme was introduced.

Most of them were from the former Yugoslavia, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Somalia and Turkey.continues here

Councils warned of far-right risk

Town halls are being warned they risk missing the rise of the far-right if they just focus on Islamist extremists.

The Local Government Association says attempts to prevent violent extremism must not leave Muslims marginalised.

The warning comes amid continuing concerns from councils over the impact of the government's extremism strategy.

Communities secretary John Denham signalled in August that the strategy was developing following "constructive criticism" from some local authorities.

In a speech to council chiefs on Tuesday, Councillor Les Lawrence, of the LGA, is expected to warn that strategies to prevent violent extremism could backfire.

"It is vital to make sure that our efforts to counter extremist beliefs do not leave members of the Muslim community feeling alienated and unfairly targeted," the Birmingham councillor will say.

"Focusing solely on one part of society, or being perceived to be, can only store up resentment and problems for the future.

"Many councils have expressed deep concerns that simply focusing on Muslim communities is unfair and could lead to widespread alienation.

"There remains a very real and present danger from violent extremists, but it is vital that we focus on working with young Muslim men and women rather than creating the impression that they are all part of the problem."

Targets attacked

The government's counter-terrorism strategy has four major themes, one of which is called Prevent.

At its heart is a £62m strategy, largely run by the Department for Communities and Local Govenrnment, which is designed to root out malign influences on young British Muslims.

The strategy has had some successes and support from Muslim groups, but has also met strong opposition.

Some councils have opposed a specific Whitehall target that commits them to assess how much Muslims in their area reject and condemn violent extremism, arguing it singles them out and labels the area as a terrorism hot-spot.

Earlier this year Mr Denham announced new guidance on how the 94 councils currently receiving Prevent funding should run projects.

That document acknowledged that some schemes could split communities if they were badly designed and targeted at Muslims at the expense of wider local relations.

The new guidance urges councils to bring people from different backgrounds together rather than just considering funding Muslim-led schemes.

Mr Denham has also recently launched a plan to identify tensions in predominantly white working class areas, amid evidence of a significant rise in far-right activity over the summer.

Councillor Lawrence will tell leaders at the LGA's conference on community safety that councils are now facing a balancing act.

Every phone call, email and internet click stored by 'state spying' databases

All telecoms companies and internet service providers will be required by law to keep a record of every customer's personal communications, showing who they are contacting, when, where and which websites they are visiting.

Despite widespread opposition over Britain's growing surveillance society, 653 public bodies will be given access to the confidential information, including police, local councils, the Financial Services Authority, the Ambulance Service, fire authorities and even prison governors.

They will not require the permission of a judge or a magistrate to access the information, but simply the authorisation of a senior police officer or the equivalent of a deputy head of department at a local authority.

Ministers had originally wanted to store the information on a massive Government-run database, but chose not to because of privacy concerns.

However the Government announced yesterday it was pressing ahead with privately-held "Big Brother" databases which opposition leaders said amount to "state-spying" and a form of "covert surveillance" on the public.

It is doing so despite its own consultation showing there is little public support for the plans.

The Home Office admitted that only a third of respondents to its six-month consultation on the issue supported its proposals, with 50 per cent fearing that the scheme lacked sufficient safeguards to protect the highly personal data from abuse.

The new law will increase the amount of personal data which can be accessed by officials through the controversial Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA), which is supposed to be used for combatting terrorism.

Although most private firms already hold details of every customer's private calls and emails for their own business purposes, most only do so on an ad hoc basis and only for a period of several months.

The new rules, known as the Intercept Modernisation Programme, will not only force communication companies to keep their records for longer, but to expand the type of data they keep to include details of every website their customers visit – effectively registering every click online.

While public authorities will not be able to view the contents of these emails or phone calls – but they can see the internet addresses, dates, times and users of telephone numbers and texts.

The firms involved in keeping the data, such as as Orange, BT and Vodafone, will be reimbursed at a cost to the taxpayer of £2billion over 10 years.

Chris Grayling, shadow home secretary, said he had fears about the abuse of the data.

"The big danger in all of this is 'mission creep'. This Government keeps on introducing new powers to tackle terrorism and organised crime which end up being used for completely different purposes. We have to stop that from happening".

David Davis, the former shadow home secretary, added: "What is being proposed is a highly intrusive procedure which would allow Government authorities to maintain covert surveillance on public use of telephones, texts, emails and internet access."

He added that the permission to access the data should be granted by judges or magistrates.

"Whilst this is no doubt necessary in pursuing terrorist suspects, the proposals are so intrusive that they should be subject to legal approval, and should not be available except in pursuit of the most serious crimes," he said.

The Information Commissioner’s Office also opposed the moves.

"The Information Commissioner believes that the case has yet to be made for the collection and processing of additional communications data for the population as a whole being relevant and not excessive."

Chris Huhne, the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman, has criticised the amount the scheme will cost for what is effectively "state spying".

He said yesterday: "Any legislation requiring communications providers to keep data on who called whom and when will need strong safeguards on access.

"It is simply not that easy to separate the bare details of a call from its content. What if a leading business person is ringing Alcoholics Anonymous?

"There has to be a careful balance between investigative powers and the right to privacy."

Ministers said that they have still got to work with the communications industry to find the correct way of framing the proposals in law – meaning it will not come before Parliament until after the General Election. But the Home Office yesterday insisted it would push the legislation through.

Jacqui Smith, then Home Secretary, originally launched a paper in April for consultation called "Protecting the Public in a Changing Communications Environment".

The responses, published yesterday, disclosed that more than 40 per cent of 221 respondents rejected it outright as the growth of the surveillance state.

Of those whose repsonses were considered, exactly half said that the proposed safeguards for the information to be stored were not adequate.

Only 29 per cent third supported the Government approach, whereas 38 per cent were against it.

Meanwhile the communications providers themselves questioned the cost of the scheme and whether it was even technically feasible.

The latest figures on the use of the RIPA legislation by public bodies, show that state bodies including town halls made 519,260 requests last year - one every minute - to spy on the phone records and email accounts of members of the public.

The number of requests has risen by 44 per cent in two years to a rate of 1,422 new cases every day, leading to claims of an abuse of using the powers for trivial matters such as littering and dog fouling.

Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty, said: "The Big Brother ambitions of a group of senior Whitehall technocrats are delayed but not diminished.

"We need a bold alliance of phone companies who fear losing public trust and concerned citizens to come together in opposition to these plans.

"If the authorities need to build up an intimate picture of a suspect's communications, they should have to go to a judge for a warrant.

"Law-abiding people have sustained too many blanket attacks on their privacy and they've had enough."

Alex Deane, Director of Big Brother Watch, said it was an "enormous and unwarranted intrusion into every aspect of our private lives" and said that the laws are in effect an "illiberal snoopers' charter."

John Yates, Britain's head of anti-terrorism, has argued that the legislation is vital for his investigators.

The Scotland Yard Assistant Commissioner said: "The availability of Communications Data to investogators is absolutely crucial. Its importance to investigating the threat of terrorism and serious crime cannot be ovetrstated". continues here

Police chiefs worried by rise in gang rapes

Senior Scotland Yard officers admitted tonight they are deeply concerned about the rising number of gang rapes.

New figures revealed there were 93 gang sex attacks in 2008-9, compared with 71 in 2003-2004.

Meanwhile the age of victims has fallen with 64 per cent aged 19 or younger in the last financial year compared with 48 per cent in 1998-9.

Police define a gang rape, which they term multi-perpetrator rape, as being a sex attack involving three or more people.

Commander Simon Foy, who leads the Met's homicide and serious crime command, said there is no doubt the "abhorrent" crime is under-reported.

He said: "This is a phenomenon we are all concerned about. We know this is an area that is under-reported. Mrs Arnold said: "It has got to be regretted that the increase in black victims has doubled." So what about the white victims Mrs Arnold, are attacks upon them not regrettable to? Editor

"There is a substantial amount of this type of offending going on which we do not necessarily know much about.

"The numbers we do have are relatively small. That makes it difficult to understand the trends and behaviours that are going on.

"There is no doubt that the number of multiple offender gang rape offences is going up and we can say there is an increasing number of offences with four or more suspects.

"The greatest proportion of victims of this type of offence are under 19 and there is a very significant number under 15.

"Young people are particularly at risk of this type of offending."

There have been a series of high-profile convictions of teenagers for gang rapes in the capital over the past year.

Two men who assaulted a girl aged 16 and doused her in caustic soda, disfiguring her for life, had their sentences increased on appeal.

In another case a 14-year-old girl was repeatedly raped "as punishment" by nine members of a Hackney gang because she had "insulted" their leader.

A meeting of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA), the Met's board of governors, heard levels of gang rape are linked to overall youth violence.

Boroughs with the highest numbers of gang rapes include Lambeth, Croydon, Newham, Southwark, Westminster and Hackney.

The Met has commissioned research from Dr Miranda Horvath, a lecturer in forensic psychology at the University of Surrey.

She is focusing on the "cultural context" of gang rape and speaking to officers from forces across Britain and the United States.

Jennette Arnold, who represents Hackney, Islington and Waltham Forest on the MPA, said some offenders are from cultural backgrounds where rape is more common.

She said the crime is seen by some as a "weapon of war" and more work needs to be done to get into the minds of culprits.

Mrs Arnold said: "It has got to be regretted that the increase in black victims has doubled."

Chris Boothman, another member of the MPA, said he remembers gang rapes taking place when he was a teenager growing up in London.

He said it is the responsibility of other agencies to intervene among young men who may be involved in, or are aware of, gang rape.

Mr Boothman said: "There is a massive piece of education to be done in schools and youth clubs in terms of unpicking an area of activity that groups of young men believe is acceptable."

The meeting heard workers trained to work with young people are based at centres for sex attack victims, known as Havens.

Officials based in Whitechapel and Paddington have also visited secondary schools and youth groups across London to dispel myths around sexual violence. continues here

Muslim army major kills 13 and injures 31 in gun rampage at U.S. military base

Thirteen people have been killed and at least 31 wounded when a soldier with two guns went on a rampage at America's biggest military base.

The gunman, named as Major Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, was cut down by authorities at the Fort Hood base in Texas - but survived the shootout and is now in custody.

The Virginia-born soldier is a Muslim convert and furious over the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan by U.S. and allied troops.

First reports said he had been killed but early this morning it was revealed that he had been wounded and was in a stable condition.

He was shot four times, and was on a ventilator and unconscious, according to military officials. 'I would say his death is not imminent,' Lt. Gen. Bob Cone at Fort Hood said.

Lt Gen Cone said the shooting broke out at 1.30pm at the Soldier Readiness Centre.

Soldiers rushed to treat their injured colleagues by ripping their uniforms into makeshift bandages.

The mayhem and terror at the scene was so great that officials have not ruled out the possibility that some casualties may have been victims of 'friendly fire', shot by authorities amid the confusion, said a senior U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Hasan is a psychiatrist employed at Fort Hood to counsel troops returning from active duty. He was due to be deployed to Iraq at the end of the year.

The shooting happened at a Soldier Readiness Facility on Fort Hood an area where servicemen leaving or returning from war duty are processed.

Army colleagues said Hasan, who is single and had no children, had fervently expressed his opposition to the war.

Retired Colonel Terry Lee who worked with the major said: 'He was so outspoken I once said to him, "Look, you got to cool it".

'He was reacting with open glee at the death of some soldiers by a suicide bomber. I told him, "You might not agree with this but this is the army and we are here to serve the country.'

Mr Lee said Hasan repeatedly stated: 'Muslims should rise up against the aggressors.'

'He was very much against that and he was appealing through the channels for the deployment to be cancelled,' Mr Lee said.

Hasan's cousin Nader Hasan said the major had also served as a psychiatrist at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C., which treats badly-wounded troops.

'He was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed dealing with the people coming back and... trying to help them with their trauma,' he said.

The cousin added that Hasan had been transferred to Fort Hood from Walter Reed about four months ago.

'We've known over the last five years that was probably his worst nightmare,' he said.

Last night the FBI was assisting the military with the investigation into one of America's worst killings at an army base. Two soldiers who were apprehended as suspects were later released.

President Barack Obama described the incident as a ‘horrific outburst of violence'.

‘These are men and women who have made a selfless and courageous decision to risk and at some times lose their lives to protect the rest of us.

‘It is difficult enough when we lose these brave Americans in battles overseas. It is horrifying that they should come under fire at an army base on American soil,’ he said.

Mr Obama said he didn’t yet know all the details, but promised the government would get ‘answers to every single question'.

Lt General Bob Cone said all of the fatalities and injuries happened in the 1.30pm shooting at the Soldier Readiness Centre.

'We have had a terrible tragedy. It’s stunning and the soldiers and families who work here are absolutely devastated.’

He said the victims were gunned down as they were at the centre where soldiers ‘preparing to deploy go for last-minute medical check-ups and dental treatment.’

Lt General Cone said Hasan used two handguns in the attack. It was not clear if he had stopped to reload.

At the Soldier Readiness Centre, soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening - on average about 300-400 screened a day, said Sergeant Rebecca Lampam.

She said a graduation ceremony for soldiers who finished college courses while deployed was also going on in the auditorium at the time of the shooting.

One of the injured was 19-year-old Amber Bahr, who was shot in the stomach but remains in a stable condition. 'We know nothing, just that she was shot in the belly,' said her mother Lisa Pfund.

Covering 339 square miles, Fort Hood is the largest active duty armoured post in the world and home to about 52,000 troops.

The sprawling base, located halfway between Austin and Waco, was where Elvis Presley famously served part of his military service in the 1950s.

The base has lost more soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan than any other military facility. continues here

A famous South African site called Zasucks.com where a few people write news and give their opinions on the political events in South Africa was arrested today but from the information we have no charges have been made.

While they do sometimes post gruesome content the authors believe they should show the real happenings of South Africa to the world. South Africa faces the worst crimes in the world and according to Zasucks the government tries to hide these facts.

The blogger that got arrested goes by the name of Uhuru Guru. Apparently for some reason they questioned him about Dan Roodt a well known Afrikaner that also writes at praag.co.za.

Whether this mean the South African government is cracking down on blogs that are against them or whether they have a real reason to arrest "Uhuru Guru" we dont know yet. Updates as we get them. continues here

Immigration minister launches great debate on 'national identity'

France's minister of immigration and national identity, Eric Besson (left of centre), has launched a debate on French national identity. The opposition, however, has denounced the move as a purely political exercise ahead of March regional elections.

It’s a big day for Eric Besson. As France’s minister of immigration and national identity, Besson will spend the next three months encouraging and monitoring a debate on French national identity that he officially launched on Monday. Certain controversial ideas have already been floated, such as requiring schools to teach the national anthem.

Besson has reportedly sent an information kit to regional officials who have been charged with organising public meetings on the issue. The ruling Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) party’s parliamentary groups have also been invited to take part. And Besson’s team has launched an Internet site to gather the varied opinions of the French public on the issue, some of which are likely to be quite controversial.

But those within the political community did not wait for the official launch of the debate to make their opinions heard, with both the left and the right flooding Besson’s office with criticism soon after the debate was first announced on October 25.

The left-of-centre opposition has denounced the whole debate as a political exercise designed to drum up support ahead of March 2010 regional elections. “(French President) Nicolas Sarkozy wants to shore up his support among those who support the far-right National Front,” Benoît Hamon, the Socialist Party’s spokesman, told Europe 1 radio.

To prevent the government from gaining the upper hand on a topic so close to the hearts of its supporters, the anti-immigration National Front has criticised the UMP for not going far enough with the debate. Marine Le Pen, second in command at the National Front, on Wednesday requested an interview at the presidential palace.

In announcing his initiative, Besson has also attracted his share of criticism from the ruling party. High commissioner Martin Hirsch called the debate “100% political” and former minister of housing Christine Boutin denounced it as “very risqué”.

Results moved up

Having suffered in the past few weeks from controversies surrounding nepotism charges related to his son, Jean, and the suspected paedophilia tendencies of his minister of culture, Frédéric Mitterrand, Sarkozy has decided to steer the electorate onto safer topics: taxes, security and immigration.

In a bid to address critics who say the debate is merely an electoral ploy, Besson moved up the date for releasing the results by three weeks to February 4. Defeat will quieten David Haye, Nikolai Valuev's promoter warns

David Haye has vowed to "walk the walk" when he takes on Nikolai Valuev on Saturday, but the Russian's promoter has reminded Haye that Valuev's previous opponents have been much quieter after the fight.

Valuev's promoter, Wilfried Sauerland, said: "I think we are going to see a very interesting fight on Saturday. We've heard these statements from a lot of Niko's opponents, although he has been more exaggerated.

"However, afterwards at the press conference – if they could attend it because a few had to go straight to hospital – they are all very calm and very quiet. I'm sure it will be the same on Saturday."

Haye, who yesterday checked out of the hotel he had been booked into and has accused his hosts of playing "mind games", challenges Valuev for the WBA heavyweight title in Nuremberg in only his second fight since moving up from cruiserweight. The Briton has called the 7ft 2in Valuev "a bogeyman, "a hairy freak" and "a circus act" in the build-up to the bout as well as bringing the champion's personal hygiene into question.

Valuev has reacted to Haye's taunts with dignity, dismissing the Englishman's comments, but the challenger is confident he will back up his talk. "I've walked the walk in my previous fights," said Haye, who has used a goblin mask to mock Valuev in publicity stunts.

"I've done a lot of talking along the way but I've always backed it up. I do a lot of talking but when the bell goes, I do a lot of fighting. I know how big and strong this guy is and what his strengths are. He's got a very good jab, I'll be looking for his right uppercut to the body and head. Valuev, however, remains unimpressed. But to speak a lot before the fight is easy and everyone can do that. You have to prove it and show what you can do in the ring.

"We'll see what you can do on Saturday. You [Haye] have a few more days to tell us what you intend to do on Saturday but then, finally, we'll see what happens."

Cameron's 'never again' vow on EU

David Cameron has said "never again" to powers being transferred from the UK to Brussels without a referendum.

He said all future treaties would be put to a public vote as he outlined his new European policy after ruling out a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. "We will give the British people a referendum lock to which only they should hold the key"David Cameron, Conservative Party leader

He also promised a sovereignty bill if the Tories win the next election to "lock in" the supremacy of UK laws.

And the Tory leader vowed to repatriate powers on the Charter of Fundamental Rights, employment and criminal law.

Mr Cameron unveiled the new set of policies after abandoning a pledge to hold a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, which is now to come into force on 1 December.

Concoct pretext

He has been accused of backtracking on a "cast iron" pledge to hold a referendum if he becomes prime minister, but he said: "I did not promise a referendum come what may, because once the Lisbon Treaty becomes law there is nothing people can do about it."

He added: "I recognise there are some who, now that we cannot have a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty, want a referendum on something else... anything else.

"But I just don't think it's right to concoct some new pretext for a referendum simply to have one for the sake of it."

But a Conservative government would amend the European Communities Act 1972 to prohibit the transfer of power to the EU without a referendum.

That would cover any future attempt to take Britain into the European single currency, said Mr Cameron.

"We will give the British people a referendum lock to which only they should hold the key, a commitment very similar to that which exists in Ireland," he added.

'Massive Euro bust-up'

Such a move, together with the repatriation of some powers, was "credible, doable and deliverable" and would prevent the "drift" towards a federal Europe, he argued.

Mr Cameron said the phrase "never again" would feature in the party's general election campaign and manifesto.

The sovereignty bill would act in place of a written constitution, which Britain does not have, to prevent the "drift" of EU powers into new areas and ensure the "final word on our laws is here in Britain", explained Mr Cameron.

He said he would need the agreement of all 27 EU nations to get powers back on employment law, including the working time directive, the Charter of Fundamental Rights and criminal justice.

Status quo

But he reassured other EU nations that he was not seeking a "massive Euro bust-up", stressing the situation was "complex" and would take the lifetime of a Parliament to solve.

Mr Cameron is seeking to head off a civil war in his party over Europe - and shadow foreign secretary William Hague said the proposals received "very strong support" when they were put to Tory MPs earlier.

But some Tory MPs are likely to continue demanding the public have a say on Europe.

Backbencher Douglas Carswell told the BBC News Channel: "I think we need a referendum on our relationship with Europe."

Rolling back the law is a setback for gay-rights advocates and makes Maine the third state in which residents reversed their government's decision to permit gay marriages, after California and Hawaii.
Same-sex marriage has yet to win a popular vote in any state, despite a recent string of wins in the New England region. The other states that grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples -- Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and Vermont -- have done so via legislative vote or judicial ruling, and New Hampshire will grant such marriages starting in January after a vote by its legislature. Maine currently grants domestic-partnership status to same-sex couples, along with about seven other states. Man cleared of BNP racial abuse

A man accused of racially abusing British National Party (BNP) leader Nick Griffin has been cleared.

A jury at Preston Crown Court took just 45 minutes to find Tauriq Khalid not guilty of using racially abusive threatening behaviour.

The 23-year-old was accused of shouting derisory comments at Mr Griffin and fellow BNP members outside Burnley police station last November. "I think it's unfortunate and I think it's wrong but that's the jury's right. They saw all the evidence, I accept their decision

Mr Griffin said he "would not lose any sleep" over the verdict.

Mr Khalid had admitted shouting "get out of Burnley" but denied being racist.

He said his actions had been "spur of the moment". He admitted sticking two fingers up at the BNP members, but denied any racial motivation.

Mr Griffin had accused Mr Khalid of making a gun gesture towards him as he drove past him, but Mr Khalid had strongly denied the BNP leader's accusations.

He told the jury he stopped his silver Vauxhall Astra and swore at him while making the V-sign with his fingers.

Mr Griffin, however, claimed he was being sworn at by the young Asian man because he was white.

Although he did not hear everything that Mr Khalid said, he told the jury he interpreted his words as a threat to kill or shoot him, prompting him to leave the demonstration fearing for his safety.

Mr Khalid declined to comment as he left court.

Mr Griffin said the verdict was "unfortunate" but that he accepted the jury's decision.

"I think it's unfortunate and I think it's wrong but that's the jury's right," he said. "They saw all the evidence, I accept their decision.

Death threats for journalists covering far right demos

Tough and urgent action is needed in response to violence, intimidation and death threats targeting journalists covering far right demonstrations.

The call by NUJ General Secretary Jeremy Dear comes in the wake of specific email threats against photojournalist and investigative reporter Marc Vallée, and video journalist Jason N. Parkinson.

The emails follow verbal threats and intimidation aimed at photographers covering a march by the English Defence League in Leeds at the weekend and other EDL protests this year.

Professional journalists covering the events have filed reports with the NUJ detailing physical violence, including one being punched in the head, verbal threats, and attempts to seize cameras and smash equipment. The union is to file complaints to the police.

Jeremy Dear said: "In a week when yet more photographers have been targeted by right-wing hate website Redwatch, when out on the streets professional photographers are subjected to violence and intimidation by right-wing thugs, there must be tough and urgent action in response to these latest death threats.

"These are not idle threats made by kids - these are direct, named threats made by individuals who can be traced - in one case an individual already convicted of stabbing someone. They are designed to silence the media and stop photographers showing the true nature of the protests and protestors. The police must act now before a journalist is killed or seriously injured".

Jason N. Parkinson said: "It is ironic the English Defence League claim they are protesting 'peacefully' against Muslim extremism. DISPLAYING a crucifix in a classroom violates religious and education freedoms, according to a landmark ruling by the European Court of Human Rights.

Italian schools will now be told they have to remove the symbols for fear their presence could disturb children who are not Christians.

The judgment in Strasbourg could force a Europe-wide review of the use of religious symbols in government-run schools and has infuriated the Vatican.

The case was brought by an Italian mother, Soile Lautsi, who complained that her children had to attend a public school in northern Italy which had crucifixes in every room.

Ms Lautsi said this ran counter to her right to give her children a secular education and the court ruled in her favour.

The Italian government had argued that the crucifix was a national symbol of culture, history and identity. But its case was rejected and it was also ordered to pay 5,000 euros in “moral damages” to Ms Lautsi.

“The presence of the crucifix...could be encouraging for religious pupils, but also disturbing for pupils who practised other religions or were atheists, particularly if they belonged to religious minorities,” the court said in a written ruling.

“The State (must) refrain from imposing beliefs in premises where individuals were dependent on it,” it added.

The Italian government immediately said that it would appeal against the ruling, which will be enforced in three months.

Could your child be branded a racist next? It beggars belief that thousands of primary school children are being reported by the authorities

A six-year-old child cowers tearfully in her school's office. She knows she is in serious trouble for uttering a 'bad' word. Her fear is compounded by confusion.

She has been accused of racism but is far too young to understand the gravity of the charge or grasp its dire implications.

But she knows her transgression is a dreadful one: a phone call has been made to her parents; official forms have been filled in; the adults around her wear dutifully censorious expressions.

The little girl is in tumult. She has to be reassured that the police will not come and take her away.

What heinous crime has she committed? During the course of a playground game, she has called another child 'blacky'.

The 'victim' has neither complained about, nor even noticed, the remark. But a playground supervisor has.

Diligently - and observing the Government procedures requiring all our schools to report 'racist incidents' - she has frog-marched the culprit to the office. In due course the little girl's 'crime' is logged on local authority files.

From there it becomes an official Government statistic.

The incident is not an isolated one. Similar scenes are enacted in primary and even nursery schools every day, all over Britain.

Local government race officials now urge schools to operate a zero-tolerance approach to anyone - even infants and toddlers - who could be construed as racist. As a result, children's playground spats are elevated into full-blown dramas.

A nine-year-old child calls another a 'chocolate bar'. The culprit's parents and head teacher are duly informed; the child is reprimanded and denied play-time.

During a boisterous game of football, a girl calls a boy 'white trash'. The heavy machinery cranks into motion again: she, too, becomes one of the estimated tens of thousands of children deemed guilty of racism since the Government's racist incident reporting policy was implemented in 2002.

A recent survey reported 5,000 'racist' incidents in Yorkshire schools alone, between 2006 and 2007.

In Essex 1,566 cases were noted in the three years up to 2005. Spurred on by a notion that even two-year-olds are capable of prejudice, Kent kindergartens have finalised a project to train staff in challenging racist statements from toddlers.

Battalions of diversity officers and ethnic minority coordinators the length and breadth of the country are doubtless applauding Kent's brave initiative, while pursuing, with messianic zeal, their mission to unmask legions of name-calling infants as incipient racists.

Is Britain really a country mired in such bigotry? Actually - and controversially - I am daring to say it is not. Doubtless I will be accused by the anti-racist zealots of heresy, but I believe it is a myth that racism is rife in British schools.

And I speak from first-hand experience. Eleven years ago I set up Coyote Films, and for the past decade I have worked as a community film-maker on video projects in schools in collaboration with various arts organisations.

As a result of my involvement in such projects, three years ago I was hired to make a film for Essex primary schools as part of a project called Watch Out For Racism!

It was aimed at nine to 11-year- olds because data from the county's schools had apparently revealed that the overwhelming majority of racist incidents - verbal namecalling was the prime offence - occurred within this age group.

I went with a team of drama tutors to 'raise awareness' of the issues through anti-racist workshops. I expected to find a problem. Actually I did not. On the contrary, the schools I visited were good ones with vibrant, diverse communities in which black and ethnic minority children mixed harmoniously with the white majority.

However, it had been preordained: these schools had 'issues' and our job was to unearth them and force the children to acknowledge them.

The drama tutors' remit was a familiar one: they wanted the kids to focus on their racial 'identity' and celebrate their differences.

But the children had a different view. 'Isn't it what's on the inside that matters?' asked several children, pertinently. Others were equally determined not to be railroaded by the agenda of the Government's anti-racism missionaries.

'I don't think skin colour is important,' remarked one. Meanwhile a white pupil asked - to the palpable embarrassment of every adult present - whether white kids were allowed to be proud of their identities, too.

In another session, chaos disintegrated into farce when a young black boy was asked how he identified himself. The drama tutor misheard his mumbled response. 'Ah, a dark-skinned person!' she said.

'No, a dancing person,' he elucidated. Later the same child was asked if his friends were hurt by name-calling incidents. He shrugged dismissively. 'Some kids say things, but I say sticks and stones - you know what I mean?'

Which is precisely my point: children do insult each other; they have since time began. The school playground should be a maelstrom of exuberant sociability where kids are allowed to play games, shout, fall-out, tease each other and make up. This is how they learn and imbue important life-lessons in selfsufficiency and resilience.

It seems to me profoundly wrong that their childish games are now routinely observed and scrutinised for sinister content; that parents, and on occasion the police and Crown Prosecution Service, are even drawn in.

In some cases the consequences are the stuff of nightmares-children face official police reprimands; even court cases. Friendships fracture; animosities spring up, where none existed before - and the whole issue of race is magnified. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy: if someone says there is racism, it must exist.

Further, teachers' time is wasted and their attention deflected from more serious incidents of real bullying as they are buried under the avalanche of paperwork and procedure that must accompany the so-called race-hate crimes.

Surely we should learn to trust teachers - in partnership with parents - to deal with these incidents, without heavyhanded State intervention? After all, this is what they were trained to do.

Please do not assume that I condone real racism in any way. I decry it as monstrous; any rightthinking individual would. Indeed, for 20 years I lived in East London where I campaigned against racism. I joined the Rock Against Racism march in 1979.

My experience, I feel, qualifies me to speak out. Yet most are simply too afraid to challenge the Government's orthodoxy.

In staffrooms teachers whisper their criticisms of the ' zerotolerance' approach for fear of being branded racist themselves. They worry that by ignoring minor infringements they will be construed as condoning them; so they dutifully tick all the right boxes. And in this way a deeply flawed system is perpetuated.

At the heart of the whole misconceived Government strategy lies a paradox: the schools that diligently report each minor breach of the rules are often very good ones; yet they are perceived to be the ones needing most help.

But there are no winners here. The official local government mantra typically states that schools which submit no incident returns must be ignoring, and therefore condoning, racism. They can't win, can they?

I believe Britain is more racially harmonious today than it ever has been. We should be celebrating the fact. It is also more ethnically diverse than it has ever been. In London almost half the under-fives have a multicultural heritage. continues here

Immigration? Yes, we DID get it wrong, confesses Johnson

Alan Johnson yesterday admitted the Government had mishandled immigration and that it is placing a 'strain' on jobs and services.

The Home Secretary said Labour had been 'maladroit' in its approach to the issue.

And he promised there would now be no 'shying away' from the subject - which is one of the public's top concerns.

The 'moderate majority' had not had its views heard, Mr Johnson said.

It follows explosive allegations that Labour engineered a secret plot to use mass migration to make Britain more multicultural.

The comments also represent a different stance for Mr Johnson, who previously claimed he did not 'lie awake' worrying about the population reaching 70million.

In a central London address to the Royal Society for the Arts, Mr Johnon said some parts of Britain were 'disproportionately' affected by immigration, with an influx of new arrivals putting a 'strain' on jobs and services.

Distancing himself from his predecessors, he said ministers had ignored for 'far too long' problems in the immigration system that led to huge backlogs of asylum seekers and foreign national prisoners.

He added: 'I want to talk about immigration today, tomorrow, next week and on any occasion I can.'

Mr Johnson said he believed the moderate majority want immigration to be carefully controlled, while accepting it has enriched Britain's culture, and was good for the economy.

At the same time as accepting genuine refugees, they wanted Britain to send home illegal immigrants, failed asylum seekers and foreign national prisoners.

He said: 'Whilst I accept that governments of both persuasions, including this one, have been maladroit in their handling of this issue, I do believe that the UK is now far more successful at tackling migration than most of its European and north American neighbours.

As I've said, our record is not perfect. When we came in to government in 1997, there was no magic button we could push immediately to resolve all the historic, political and operation problems associated with immigration.'

He added: 'The legacy problems with unreturned foreign national prisoners and asylum seekers may have accumulated under previous administrations, but they continued to be ignored for far too long on our watch.'

Mr Johnson also outlined principles in the debate on immigration which he said should be accepted by everyone.

He said there was 'no sensible argument' for immigration to cease altogether, and an acceptance that some communities more affected by immigration than others had 'legitimate concerns about the strain that the growth in the local population has placed on jobs and services'.

He also said those who come to live here should learn the language, obey the laws and pay tax.

But he dismissed as 'complete and utter nonsense' the claims made by former Labour adviser Andrew Neather that Labour had intended to make Britain more multicultural in order to portray the Tories as racist.

His call for a debate on immigration is designed to tackle head on critics who say Labour's stubborn refusal to justify its policies has played into the hands of the BNP.

But opposition MPs criticised his remarks. Shadow home secretary Chris Grayling said: 'Three months ago the Home Secretary said he isn't losing sleep over immigration.

'Now he's admitting that it's putting massive pressure on many communities.

'And he's reverting to the old days when Labour accused Conservatives of dog whistle politics, rather than dealing with the issues in a sensible and measured way.'

In December of 46 four British soldiers were never to return home killed in a bomb blast carried out by Zionists, in April of 1947 they attacked a hospital, a hospital, imagine that, there was one fatality. Deputies counters Israel boycott bid

BRITISH Jewry is being urged to come out in force to buy Israeli goods.

The Board of Deputies has launched a counter-boycott initiative to scupper the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign's national anti-Israel supermarket boycott.

The week-long counter-boycott is due to start on Saturday, November 7 - and is backed by Israel's embassy in London.

"Boycotts target all Israelis - including Jews and Arabs - but impact on the Palestinian economy as well as Israel's, because the two markets and societies are so deeply entwined," a Board spokesman said.

Friends of Israel have been called upon to buy Israeli goods at supermarkets, "During a question and answer session, I was amazed to hear one delegate claim that Zionists have a monopoly on letter pages in the local press."particularly Waitrose and Morrisons, which have been targeted specifically by the anti-Israel hard left PSC.

The PSC have called on its supporters to send emails and letters to the two supermarkets; to hold demonstrations outside local stores; and to inundate respective head offices with phone calls.

Yorkshire, in particular, has been targeted as Morrisons' head office is in Bradford.

An Israeli embassy spokesman has backed the Board's campaign, stating: "The PSC's absurd attempts to represent the Palestinians contribute nothing and have no influence on the process. We welcome the boycott initiative.

"We hope others on all sides create equally positive campaigns and stop perpetuating hostility. Only direct dialogue will enable constructive progress."

He added: "Friends of Israel are asked to write to local store managers thanking them for stocking Israeli goods.

"Head offices of these supermarkets should be contacted to explain that boycotting Israeli goods will do nothing to further the peace process and will damage livelihoods of local farmers and workers."

And the Jewish community in Leeds is concerned that the PSC is trying to set up a local branch in the city.

A meeting took place for recruits last week - but a prominent member of the Zionist Federation attended incognito.

The member told the Jewish Telegraph: "Around 40 Palestinian sympathisers were present, which included Stop The War campaigners, Trade Union Congress members and Leeds University students.

Editorial : It’s quite true that the “hard left” have taken to opposing Israel or more correctly the human rights violations committed in her name, it would seem as if, in creating and maintaining a militant left, the Jewish community and Israel in particular, have made a rod for their own back. Perhaps one of the greatest powers within Europe lies with France, France has kept her independent nuclear deterrent and therefore is able to hold her own at the table of world powers, yet in other areas such as economically she sits impotent, whilst Germany, as it has done even in antiquity garners a better yield. I remember many years ago now, the great campaign by the National Front to keep and maintain this countries nuclear defence, it seemed wherever I looked I saw a poster advocating such a position. Of course the left at that time, had run rampant under CND’s banner, yet how many realised at that time that our defence was far from autonomous, how very powerless we actually and indeed are.

Conventionally we were and in many ways still are, perhaps the best fighting force, although this is debatable in many aspects in truth, although it is hard for a nationalist from any nation to look at it in a completely unbiased fashion, as such a viewpoint is of course tainted by patriotic desire and a stoic defensive position for ones armed forces. Yet we had conquered using conventional small arms almost an entire world, even when America was at the height of her powers such a campaign would have proved impossible, so in order to assess ability and indeed capability one must look to the historical period involved and there can be no doubt at all, that this country, this small land at one time possessed extraordinary power and an unexcelled military force to back up her argument.

Of course one can look to Spain, a country of almost no significance today upon the world stage but once perhaps one of the mightiest countries within mainland Europe and certainly at one time an unconquerable force. Power is circumstance dependent and there is no doubt in my mind, that incrementally over many centuries, the push has been to move power, at first from within mainland Europe to the Americas and then, as we are seeing today, towards the middle east and Asia. So it is reasonable to assume that in the future, America will lose its super power status or may indeed share the position, with countries it now considers vassal-states.

Yet Israel is ideally located to capitalise upon such a scenario and given her ability to brandish a nuclear option her position would be quite secure, after all, even a relatively small country such as Israel, can hold similar military power to larger country, if considered purely on a nuclear basis. Israel itself could not possibly hold her own, were she to rely upon purely conventional weaponry and deployable forces and indeed were she to not receive an unnatural level of support from other nations; further her geographical location would prove her undoing. So Israel must for her own safety, rely upon and indeed coerce other nations to defend her, it is for this reason that there are so very many lobby groups, so many friends of Israel, yet the power such group wield is entirely disproportionate to the numbers involved, strange indeed until one realises the nature of that particular game.

Regrettably those upon the right in this country have been entirely hoodwinked and indeed, it was somewhat disheartening to hear Mr Griffins support for Israel, on the BBC’s flagship Question Time programme, understandably he was under pressure and there are those within British nationalism, who attack him based solely upon personal dislike, yet such support for Israel does indeed go against a nationalist position, although it is unlikely that Mr Griffin or indeed his BNP, will reassess their position in nationalisms favour. Yet whilst lamenting Mr Griffins ill-considered stance, it has to be remembered, that presently we simply have no alternative and indeed we who consider ourselves the traditional right need with great urgency, to consider our own position, look to our own greenhouse before we throw our stones.

So what is the correct position to take, for there is no other question so wholly loaded as the Jewish question, the British people have been fed upon a diet, of what is akin to, wartime propaganda, they have been utterly and indeed, wholly submerged in anti-Nazi ideology, to the point that any mention of disproportionate power, Israeli war-crimes, usurious practice and indeed the very foreignness of Jewry is considered beyond the pale. Indeed so well-crafted has anti-Nazism been, that the term itself has become a weapon wielded efficiently by the left and used in normal everyday discourse as a negative, today we see, that even elements within nationalism use this term and others in the pejorative. It is for this very reason that many within nationalism look down upon and indeed act in a hostile manner towards those that advocate National Socialism, this of course is an act this website does not agree with, after all it can never be right to belittle others who hold pro-people viewpoints, regards of the moniker they chose to adopt.

Yet the Jewish question is perpetually relevant, it has so much potency as to be wholly proscribed by mainstream British nationalism, yet the position is really very simple, no alien influence must hold sway within this country, advocates for other nations serve only those nations. A realisation of the Jewish question in no way equates to anti-Semitism, at least not in the sense that leftists and indeed organised Jewry implies, after all, because you oppose the actions of radical Islam within this country, it does not therefore mean that you wish to incarcerate or carry out industrialised murder. It is beyond reasonable doubt that the Jewish community hold disproportionate power within this country and indeed many others, should Islam even endeavour to influence then nationalism shouts it down, why then the deafening silence concerning Jewish influence, which is much more detrimental to our national condition. For many within nationalism, the Israel Palestinian question has no relevance, Islam by its actions in this country has completely diminished support for the plight of the Palestinians and Israel is just a country over there, they contest only what they see, what they experience, all else they are blind to.

Yet there has never been such a troubling question for Europe and indeed such an important one, extreme pro-Israeli support places our people at risk, augments Islamic radicalisation and places us onside with evil. Race of course plays a part, yet the race of the Palestinians is immaterial or at least it should be, nationalism quite simply should respect the right of all peoples, to live peacefully within their ancestral homeland. Yet on this issue the hypocrisy of the right is astounding, advocating a nationalist position here whilst supporting the reverse abroad, supporting the actions of tyranny whilst lamenting the loss of our own freedoms. It would be impossible now to dismantle the state of Israel or to go back in time and behave differently, yet in realising that Israel exists we should in no way endorse its behaviour, endorse it either historically or indeed currently.

As non-white status has been raised, in many ways artificially, over the years, so to has the call for more representation, today many things are just too white, just a little too Caucasian, its not a racism thing you know, its simply that we want to see a reflection of our self , a black face in all things. Yet we whites are on the back foot, exploited for tax, disparaged, forced to accept a coming minority status and attacked as racists if we do not, yet should we advocate for a reflection of ourselves within society, then we are prejudiced, hateful and so on. Try going to a non-white country and insisting that their society changes to reflect you the white minority and at best you’ll be ridiculed and at worst risk your health, yet here in the west the consensus seems to be, that white equates to evil and black or coloured, represents various victim-hood, akin to the noble savage myth.

There are countless occurrences whereby white children are manipulated to accept multiculturalism and there have even been studies undertaken to judge the racial attitudes of white children, The National Children's Bureau (NCB) reportedly issued guidelines for play leaders and nursery teachers, under the title, Young Children and Racial Justice. The report stated children might also,” react negatively to a culinary tradition other than their own by saying 'yuk', such a response indicative of racism we have to assume, it also indicated that it would be favourable for nurseries to report as many instances as possible to their local council, “Some people think that if a large number of racist incidents are reported, this will reflect badly on the institution. In fact, the opposite is the case."

Recently the Daily mail picked up on a study carried out by The Manifesto Group they stated that, “An estimated 250,000 racist incidents have been reported in schools since 2002 - but the requirement 'wastes teachers' time', they further opined that, “young children are being branded racist before they even know what the term means and playground spats are being turned into full-blown racial incidents.” Yet the assault upon our children appears never ending, a report by the Bristol Royal Hospital concluded that, “nursery rhymes have 52.2 violent scenes per hour”, whilst "Television has 4.8 violent scenes per hour”, they further stated that,” The result of violence was shown or mentioned twice as often on TV as in nursery rhymes. That means kids are often left to imagine the outcome of nursery rhyme violence. The possibilities they imagine "may be more disturbing than having the outcome spelled out," the report stated.

It has been reported that in 2000 Birmingham City Council tried to ban the rhyme, Baa Baa, Black Sheep, although I can find no substantiating source for this I can confirm, that at least two nurseries are known to have altered the rhyme and indeed, one made great play of a non-white Santa Claus, I am told. In any event the rhyme was officially and traceably altered by the Family Centre in Abingdon and the Sure Start centre in Sutton Courtenay, both in located Oxfordshire, yet such a move may have been more substantial and wide-ranging given the reply of one Stuart Chamberlain, manager of the Family Centre, who said, “"We have taken the equal opportunities approach to everything we do. This is fairly standard across nurseries.” The clue of course is in the last segment of the statement, “This is fairly standard across nurseries”, conservatives will of course be up in arms, “Why its political correctness gone mad”, such a phrase implies that Political Correctness is really quite normal although it has deviated off course.

Political Correctness is not some fluffy quaint, needed set of guidelines, it is tyrannising communism, some call it cultural Marxism which it is simply the shaping of society by artificial means, social engineering. Certainly there are guiding forms of behaviours, we used to call them morals, it is these that have shaped our society and these that have been placed under sustained attacked by leftists. Yet the assault of the left cannot ever hope to work against mature adults, certainly it can shape behaviours using draconian legislation, yet the overlying mask merely conceals underlying truths, it does not alter them. But what if you could alter society ,what if the people gave you its children, young not yet shaped minds, that is the new experiment, the new endeavour, to elicit a Pavlovian response amongst the people to the whim of a future elite.

The left realised long ago that it could simply not win by its old methods, outright war and a call to action amongst the working classes, instead stealth is their nature of the game and our children its target, yet even this is no guarantee, what if race-realists like myself are right, what if instinct is driven by nature not nurture, what if this mass social engineering project, currently being undertaken by the left, is a failure, as has been their other methods of advancing their cause, what if the people again reject them. Why you alter the very people, you genetically change them and pretty soon, you will have no opposition, no contestation, no need to alter nursery rhymes, engineer to such great levels ,for upon achieving majority status, our now minorities will be so inculcated with leftism that there will indeed be no other force for change.

Far from a rather potty theory, Political Correctness is a monstrous evil, it alters society to the designs of the few, whilst suppressing the natural instinct of the many, today there are few programmes aimed at children that do not in some way, shape or form involve a message, you will never see a programme where a race conscious white is portrayed favourably, where an individual with rightist views will be depicted correctly. Yet rightists as a rule are perhaps the most law-abiding, believing completely in the rule of law, understanding that certain anti-group behaviours must be governed and believing strongly in tradition and its attendant culture. It is the left you will see in the main attacking the police, staging violent demonstrations, attacking so-called class targets and indulging in extreme anti-group behaviours, however, such is never depicted and given the nature of those that hold the power within media, it is to be expected.

Part of the message given out by the media is normalcy, the impression that the non-white presence is normal, that it is commonplace and to oppose it is a minority position, growing minds will balk at exclusion, will endeavour in all things to become part of the group, leftists play greatly upon such things, upon such motivation. Of course it is not only our own localised media that instil “the message”, this is a globalised tyranny, an attack upon the consciousnesses of all, yet race awareness or group advocacy is not simply a trait of whites, in fact it is markedly stronger amongst non-whites, due to many causes, primarily their perceived sense of historical group exploitation at the hands of vicious whites, secondly of course, their alienism, their status within another’s society and of course thirdly, because whites have simply had all notions of the group trained out of them.

Yet inter-group relations good or bad will exist as long as there are groups, states may suppress such instinct yet it will always remain, quite simply, in placing disparity within the same territory one is asking for trouble. So the plan here is not you or me, after all how long is a lifetime, we are simply controlled by fear, yet they hope to control our descendants by conditioning, how many young girls play princesses, embracing their femininity along the way, recently Disney created another character, a character more fitting for today than Walt’s, Snow White or Cinderella, Princess Tiana, oh and she already bears the name princess, unlike earlier creations.

Concerns have also been raised that another character, Prince Naveen, is too white, his depiction drawing criticism from Angela Bronner Helm, on another site dedicated solely to black culture and lifestyle, Black Voices, perhaps this website should change its name to “white voices” or would that be considered racist. The concerns raised relating to Prince Naveen on the Black Voices website were in an article entitled, “Disney's First Black Princess...Has a Prince Who's Not Black “. After outlining briefly release date and so forth the article went on to say, “Oddly enough, though, Princess Tiana is black; her prince is not. That's right – even though there is a real-life black man in the highest office in the land with a black wife, Disney obviously doesn't think a black man is worthy of the title of prince”.

Again were whites to make such statements we would immediately be shouted down as racist, the article further went on to say, “Prince Naveen of Maldonia is voiced by a Brazilian actor, and his skin is ... tan. His hair and features are decidedly non-black. This has left many in the community shaking their head in befuddlement and even rage”. Imagine that rage, rage because a fictional characters kin colour is not black enough, it would seem that in-group preferences transcends the machinations of the liberalist media, that the assault upon the west may yet be fraught with difficulty and they told us we could have harmonious rainbow nations and that race was simply a black and white issue.

Gang assault college tutor in Bury town centre

A TEACHER has spoken for the first time after yobs kicked and punched him unconscious in a vicious attack in Bury town centre.

Bury College tutor Keith Taylor returned to work this week, more than a month after thugs left him with horrific head injuries.

Mr Taylor had to be transferred from Fairfield Hospital in Bury to a specialist facial surgery unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital where he stayed for five days.

He had a broken nose, a fractured cheekbone, heavy swelling and a head wound that needed three stitches. Three plates were inserted to hold his cheek in place and he is yet to undergo dental repairs.

Now detectives have stepped up the hunt for his attackers who pounced on him in the early hours of September 26. Mr Taylor, aged 24, of Accrington, said: “It shook me up. It’s dominated my life in the last few weeks while I’ve had hospital treatment. I have hardly been out since it happened.

“I won’t let these yobs ruin my life but they could strike again. We need them off the streets.”

Mr Taylor, who is a sports lecturer, attended a colleague’s retirement party at a bar in Manchester city centre on Friday, September 25.

At about 2.30am, he left the venue with two female colleagues and got into a private-hire taxi outside the Comedy Store in Deansgate Locks.

The taxi was not booked in advance and Mr Taylor cannot remember any vehicle details. The driver dropped them off outside HSBC bank in Market Street in Bury town centre, but Mr Taylor was involved in a dispute over a demand for £37, saying it should only have been £19.

Mr Taylor said: “A passing police officer resolved the dispute and we paid £25 and left.

“We then walked to Kay Gardens and five Asian lads, about 20 to 25 years old, started shouting abuse at us for not paying for the taxi.

“One spat in the face of my colleague and, when I objected, he punched me.

“They stole my mobile phone. I don’t remember much else because it knocked me unconscious.”

Mr Taylor’s helpless colleagues looked on as two men punched and kicked him.

Far-right party leader pelted with eggs as he arrives for radio phone-in.

British National Party leader Nick Griffin has been met with protests as he appeared at a radio station in Hamilton.

The far-right politician was pelted with eggs as he made his way to the station's studios.

Around 40 demonstrators heckled him as he arrived for a morning phone-in on the L107 station less than a week after his controversial appearance on the BBC's Question Time.

L107 programme director Derek McIntyre defended the decision to have the BNP leader on but admitted it was "commercial suicide".
He said: "We have received 50 emails this morning from people withdrawing their support for the station and two or three advertisers have said they are pulling out."

Should Net pirates be 'disconnected

People who persistently download illegal content will be cut off from the net, Business Secretary Peter Mandelson has announced.

Speaking at a government-sponsored forum he said the UK would introduce a similar policy to France.

It means persistent pirates will be sent two warning letters before facing disconnection from the network.

ISP TalkTalk said the plans were "ill-conceived" and said it was prepared to challenge measures "in the courts".

"What is being proposed is wrong in principle and won't work in practice," the firm said.

"In the event we are instructed to impose extra judicial technical measures we will challenge the instruction in the courts."

Lord Mandelson said that cutting off internet connections would be a "last resort".

"I have no expectation of mass suspensions. People will receive two notifications and if it reaches the point [of cutting them off] they will have the opportunity to appeal," he told the audience at the C&binet Forum, a talking shop set up by government to debate the issues facing the creative industries.

The pay-off for tough penalties against persistent file-sharers would be a more relaxed copyright regime, Lord Mandelson said.

The details of it would need to be hammered out at European level but it would take account of the use of copyright material "at home and between friends", he said.

It would mean that, for example, someone who has bought a CD would be able to copy it to their iPod or share it with family members without acting unlawfully.

Lord Mandelson praised the UK's creative industries, which are worth around £16bn and employs 2 million people.

But it has been eroded in recent years, he said, by new ways of accessing content.

"I was shocked to learn that only one in 20 music tracks in the UK is downloaded legally. We cannot sit back and do nothing," said Lord Mandelson.

The fact that young people now expect to download content for free was "morally as well as economically unsustainable," he added.

Mere conduits

But he emphasised that "legislation and enforcement can only ever be part of the solution".

The long-term answer was for the industry to educate users and to offer new and cheaper ways to download content, he said. In addition, new copyright laws were needed to lift restrictions on how people moved content on to the various different devices that they owned.

In France the government has just approved a so-called three strikes policy.

Under its system, those identified as illegally downloading content would initially be sent warning letters and, if they failed to comply, could be removed from the network for up to a year.

UK internet service providers have argued that it is not their job to police the network, claiming that there are "mere conduits" of content.

They also say that they should not have to bear the brunt of the costs.

In his speech, Lord Mandelson said that the costs of enforcing the policy would be "shared between ISPs and content providers".

However, ISP TalkTalk said that it would "continue to resist any attempts to make it impose technical measures on its customers".

It has set up a campaign called Don't Disconnect Us to lobby against the plans.

it said that it believed the "three-strikes" rule would lead to "wrongful accusations".

"The unintended consequence of Lord Mandelson's plan will be to encourage more wi-fi and PC hi-jacking and expose more innocent people to being penalised."

The firm recently demonstrated how someone could hi-jack unsecured wi-fi connections to download music illegally.

Dark net

The Open Rights Group, a digital rights lobby organisation, has long been opposed to a disconnection policy.

Jim Killock, executive director of the Open Rights Group, is disappointed that the UK government is determined to introduce such legislation.

"Even MI5 disagree with Mr Mandelson - they are convinced we will see a rise of a 'Dark Net' of infringers. Nobody at C&binet from an online music service, as opposed to an old media company, thought that peer-to-peer [file-sharing] was a threat to their businesses.

"Yet Mandelson seems determined to push forward with his plans for 'three strikes' - threatening to punish people extremely harshly, threatening their education, businesses and livelihoods for a relatively minor financial misdemeanour," he said. continues here
