Ford Fiesta, with it’s exceptional styling and features is head turner in our market. But it failed to cheer Indian sedan buyers. Remember both Fiesta and Figo comes from same company. While latter is still continues to perform well in the hatchback market, former is still struggling to make a foot hold. What went wrong with Ford Fiesta..? We think pricing  spoiled Fiesta’s future in our market and Ford India needs to come up with serious efforts to make it competitive.

Mitsubishi recently teased an image of a new global vehicle. Our regular readers might be aware of this development. Now Mitsubishi officially confirmed that, the vehicle which was featured in the teaser image is 2013 Outlander SUV. 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will make its official debut in Geneva in March. Russia could be the first market to receive  new Outlander. Markets like Japan, China and North America will get the new Outlander in a phased manner.

2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will continue to get  2.0-litre MIVEC petrol and 2.2-litre MIVEC  diesel engine. The engine will be mated to an all new six speed auto transmission box. The new Outlander will have a new eco drive mode option and micro hybrid technology. Both Front  Wheel Drive and All Wheel Drive options will be offered. An all-wheel drive plug-in drivetrain version will be launched in European market by end of 2013. 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander will come with seven seat configuration as outgoing model.

Mitsubishi Motors and their Indian partner, Hindustan Motors are struggling in our market. The joint venture has not yet made any successful launch for a long time now. We think Mitsubishi Pajero Sport could be the next launch from them for Indian market. At this  moment it’s too early to predict 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Indian arrival. We will wait for official confirmation so let us keep our fingers crossed.

Now Mahindra Xylo is available in three engine options, CRDe, mEagle and mHawk. While first two engine options are already present in the market, the third one is new. Xylo E9 will get Scorpio’s mHawk engine which develops 120bhp of power and a maximum torque of 280Nm. Mahindra has chosen an all new five speed manual gear box for 2012 Xylo. In addition to these major changes, new Xylo gets a host of styling changes as we discussed in our previous post. All variants of Xylo have a new suspension set up and top variant  has  E.S.T. (Extra Stability Technology) as extra. The E9 variant is equipped with cruise control and a leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob and  Voice Command Tech(VCT). The VCT  will control some of the important functions like  headlight ON/OFF, Door Lock/Unlock etc.

Mahindra Xylo has been a massive hit in taxi segment. With the launch of 2012 Xylo, Mahindra may want to attract more family car buyers. We think the top end model of new Mahindra Xylo will emerge as a good option for those who are looking for a people mover. The E9 version is nearly 3.0 lakh cheaper compared to Toyota Innova.

With the 2 liter engine out, the Captiva will now be powered  by a 2.2 liter TDCi engine that will put out 186.5 PS @ 3,800 rpm and a colossal 424 Nm of torque @ 2,000 rpm. The engine will put down this performance via the six speed automatic gearbox.  On the aesthetics front, major work has gone in to the solid new front grille and the fascia. The interiors adorn a black theme and is loaded with driver aids like Customized climate control, Rain sensing wipers, Electronic sunroof and Cruise control. Priced at Rs. 22 lakhs with 3 year/1,00,000 kms warranty, the Captiva offers a viable option.

The Neo3  is the BSIV compliant version of the previous car with some minor work on the grille and larger Chevy bow ties front and back. The indicator lamps are now integrated within the clear headlamps. The 2 liter engine has been retained with the power rating of 1.6PS@ 4,000 rpm and 263 Nm torque @ 2,500 rpm.

In the rear, Mahindra has retained existing variant’s looks and styling. But the tail lamp detailing has been slightly tweaked with an additional clear lens stacking. The additional rear spoiler enhances the sportiness of  new Xylo. All columns have been black taped to improve side profile. There is not much change in the interiors. There will be  an additional variant for facelifted Mahindra Xylo called  Xylo E9.

There are reports suggesting that Mahindra may plant a detuned 2.2 ltr mHawk engine in New Xylo. The engine is well received in Indian market in Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra XUV500 (with different power output profiles). Even Mahindra may continue with current  mEagle engine line up in base and mid-level variants and top end (E9) may get mHawk engine. The mHawk engine engine is lighter compared mEagle and will improve the fuel economy and acceleration characteristics.

Mahindra Xylo has been in the market for the last three years. It is doing fairly well in the segment but we think company wants to improve the sales further. No doubt new Mahindra Xylo looks much better than outgoing model. Will this  facelift lift sales of Xylo..? We reserve our comments till Mahindra announces the price.
