Anyone know where I can get a replacement (new or used) driver foot well floor pan in or around Sydney?

I pulled up my carpet agter drowing it and found some serious rust, som of it starting to head up the tunnel. Some parts look too difficut just to weld up, so I think an entire section would be the way to go.

Cheers.

Wondering if anyone knows a supplier of canvas hoods in Australia, that and 'replica' quality, no mods etc apart from side windows added. I need one 'perfect' to military specs - webbing straps, brass buckles etc - except for the addition of side windows.

Also, what do people know of the truth of the rumours that a standard SIII canvas is slightly longer in the height of the side flaps than a Lightweight one?

First of all - a HUGE THANKYOU to the 14 people who both (a)installed their provents within a reasonable timeframe and (b) provided the filters back as requested. :twobeers:

To the other 33 of you (excluding those who contacted me with extenuating circumstanes), I hope you feel suitably ashamed.

Anyway - on to the results.

Firstly - soot concentration.

Fig. 1 - soot concentration in oil (in Provent filter element) plotted against installed km.

For both figures, Group I and Group II are a mix of 300Tdi and 4BD1(T) engines split according to oil grade. Group III are all TD5.

After we got the filters back and measured them in our test rig, we analysed the soot content (% w/w in oil) of the filter elements using a sophisticated and accurate thermogravimetry method. The rate at which soot accumulates in the Provent should correlate roughly with the rate at which soot accumulated in your engine oil between oil changes. You can see that there is no significant difference between Tdi and isuzu engines in the rate of soot accumulation in the oil - excluding the one (Tdi) outlier - you know who you are ;). The TD5 data however is almost flat. Which shows that a properly functioning M+H centrifugal bypass filter (as fitted to the TD5s) can remove almost all soot from the oil (none of the isuzu engines had bypass filters fitted).

And what that means for Provent element lifespan...

Fig 2. Provent pressure drop as measured under laboratory conditions (outlier excluded here)

Groups as before. The left-most TD5 datum had not yet reached steady-state oil saturation. However you can basically see that provent elements in Td5s should last a very long time, as there is almost no pressure drop increase over time. For the others there is a higher rate of increase. The pressure relief valve in the cap of the provent will vent crankcase pressure to atmosphere when the pressure gets to 50 mBar. Though it should be noted that the flow rate under which the provents were tested in the lab is not necessarily the same as the bypass flow rates, so pressure drop will be higher if flow rate is higher. From the group I and II results, you can see that running lower viscosity oil will reduce pressure drop (and therefore prolong element life).

As it will always be used where 240 volts are available, I was wondering rather than getting a new battery at around $400, could I use a power supply?

I don't know the currant draw but this machine came with all its service history. Reading through this, there have been times where motor currant draw was checked and noted. One at 100 amps and the other at 110 amps.

Now here are my questions for any electrical guru's out there.
I would expect that I would need about 120 amps. This I know is quite a lot.
Is such an animal available to do the job, and would it be cost effective?
If so where would I start looking to buy this? I did a bit of a google search but could only find a place in the US.

Revs up to 5000 in the morning before changing down gears, questionable when selecting reverse, (you have to go back and forth between drive and reverse)..

Have read through multiple posts indicating its most probably the Govenor and transmission box, a quick call yesterday indicated $4000.00 in and out.

Quite a scary concept when looking at it as i've already spent over 15 grand on her, bringing the grand total to around abouts $20 gs.

As RRC owners the issue of getting continually pushed to sell by our wives and girlfriends and other onlookers to buy a "reliable" car is a statement which i'm sure is quite common for members of this thread.

the concept of selling a car which you "just need to get this done and she'll be sweet" is a difficult one as you are only ever going to get that back, or 10% in resale when you look at all the money which you've parted with.

I do relish those glimpses in time when everything is going well and you're able to pull your mates out of boggy sand or get over that ridge due to the lift kit and 33inch tyres.

I believe i will spend the money to get it fixed; possibly do an entire overhaul of the car to bring it back to reliability. Has anyone in Perth done this?? I think if anything else seriously goes wrong this death threat will have a more severe outcome.

Yours Sincerely
Anyone out there have a Diesel engine compression tester that I might be able to borrow for a few days?
I have recently changed the head for a Turner's performance head ,but would like to check to see if the compression is all ok.
I know. I should have done it straight after I changed the head, but I needed the car on the road ASAP. It's running ok, but I feel that it's missing something in power/torque. strange thing is it's not all the time. I just want to cross off compression off the list of things that might be wrong.

Cheers
As my two trailers have square plugs, I head to autobahn and buy some round 7 pin plugs and proceed to wire them up as per the diagram on the packaging.

Test time comes and everything works a treat except the tail lights......

Trailer no 2, same problem. Yet they both worked fine in their previous format.

So, no.7 brown wire is tail lights, in the middle of the plug, and still nothing.

Anyone got any ideas what I might be missing? Or does it sound like a fault in the cars plug maybe?

Anyone know how I might test the car plug to see if the problem lies there. I noticed the plug has some kind of gel or resin in it just to make things harder to test.

Both trailers have 5 wires, and I am wiring to suit a 7 pin plug diagram, not the 5 pin plug diagram.

I joined just under a year ago, as I was researching disco 2's.
We needed a car to tow a caravan from Melbourne,so we bought this TD5 of a dealer's lot in Brisbane. Without even a testdrive, threw our bags in it and drove it to Melbourne. It had 215 k on the clock, now 250 k without problems. We tow an Ecotourer, low windresitance caravan (about 2.5 tons loaded). We are "grey nomading", based in Townsville, are at present on the westcoast of WA.
I would like to thank all the contributors to this forum since I gained invaluable information on maintaining the Disco.
Vehicle: MY 2001,40 mm lift.Auto TD5, P16 engine EU3, totally de-egrt with home-made parts. Engine saver, device to monitor auto-box temp at outlet pipe.Fitted greaseable UJ's, additional ATF cooler, changed lower ball-joints.Needed a new fuelpump recently. Carry a Nanocom.
I try to attach a writeup on my experiences of fitting an extra ATF-cooler
if I manage the computer-technic.
Greetings, Heichen
PS:upload did not work, it said invalid file.It is a OTD file with JPEG photos. Maybe someone can help

I recently changed the head gasket on my 300 tdi auto and 200k's on I'm noticing it is starting to shake a little at idle when left in drive. It was running nicely a week ago. I've adjusted the idle rev's up and down a touch but this doesn't seem to resolve the issue.

I'm guessing /hoping the first thing is to reset the valves clearances and see if this sorts it out, but I thought I'd ask around and see if anyone knows or has a theory about the cause.
It doesn't normally do that , as the D gas injection seems to clean things up a fair bit.
It is probaly due for a full set of air, fuel and oil filters.
