Unfortunately, they cycled the previous episodes into a closed archive which made them unavailable for streaming or downloading.

Over the course of the next few weeks I’ll be adding these shows to Archive.org. When these are posted, they will slowly start becoming available again in the feed and for streaming here at Audio Gumshoe.com.

You will find that many of the original Miami Valley Musicast shows (the early version of this offering) are already available. Go way back to episodes 1-30 to hear more!

Dear Audio Gumshoe listener and reader:

Audio Gumshoe is taking a break. Many outside commitments cause me to divert attention away from the show. It is not fair to the musicians when I let their files stack up in the AG file cabinet. Many great artists have sent tunes to the show. I don’t get enough opportunity to let you hear them.

The show will be back as soon as I can give it more attention. Until then, I invite you to follow my posts at Twitter, Google+ and Facebook. I will share links to artists that I like. Hopefully, you will like them, too.

Many of you have been faithful listeners since the show began (as Miami Valley Musicast). I appreciate your comments and your dedication. Thank you for being on this wonderful ride with me.

I will see you around the next bend. Until then, I wish you all the best.

Dear Audio Gumshoe listener and reader:

Audio Gumshoe is taking a break. Many outside commitments cause me to divert attention away from the show. It is not fair to the musicians when I let their files stack up in the AG file cabinet. Many great artists have sent tunes to the show. I don't get enough opportunity to let you hear them.

The show will be back as soon as I can give it more attention. Until then, I invite you to follow my posts at Twitter, Google+ and Facebook. I will share links to artists that I like. Hopefully, you will like them, too.

About the Show

Custode was twice named “Buffalo’s Best Female Vocalist” (Artvoice “2010 Best of Buffalo” and “2011 Best of Buffalo”) and currently fronts a pop-rock trio. “Christina Custode and Rerun” were recognized as “Buffalo’s Best Original Music Act” (Artvoice “2011 Best of Buffalo”),

Audio Gumshoe is privileged to present the music of Christina Custode. Familiar to long-time listeners of the show, this episode returns to an earlier format with an interview of the featured artist. It was a pleasure to speak with Christina. Opportunities such as this are few and far between, but they give us all a very intimate look at the work and personality of our featured guest.

Christina Custode is a busy musician. She performs regularly in and around her home of Niagara Falls, New York. She performs with numerous jazz groups on piano and vibraphone, is a cocktail piano soloist, and is a member of numerous blues and commercial bands.

In the interview, you will hear what inspires Christina to write her music, a bit about her stage show, and where to get her music (see links below). She shares insight to her family’s background in music, as well as her career as a music teacher. You’ll also learn about a very special tune called “The Mistletoe Song.” Christina talks about her motivation to write this great tune.

Be sure to visit Christina’s web site — and most certainly pick up a copy of the album “I” so that you can continue to enjoy her well written, well produced, collection of music.

“A little Sara Bareilles at times, some Lisa Loeb at others, even a bit of Basia at one point. Christina Custode has a little of everything for you here. Nothing & Crush are the big power ballads surrounded by pop songs like The One Thing and The LaLa Song. There’s an excellent chance her first big hit will come from this album.”

It seems that the lyrics and titles of songs begin to create a greater theme when I’m putting these shows together. As I listen to each of the artists’ submission, I begin to realize an overall picture or thought. Today, it is that love can be brutal. We remember it, we want to dismiss it, we want to find it again, we fear it, and yet we hope to make it last. It seems that the lyrics and titles of songs begin to create a greater theme when I'm putting these shows together. As I listen to each of the artists' submission, I begin to realize an overall picture or thought. Today, it is that love can be brutal. We remember it, we want to dismiss it, we want to find it again, we fear it, and yet we hope to make it last. If you like what you hear in today's show -- or perhaps don't -- please leave me your thoughts/feedback by clicking the "Send Voicemail" tab on the right hand side of the page -- or by visiting the voicemail page. You can also submit your comments using the form on the contact page.

About the Show

“Six Gun Jury deserves a shot at the majors.”
~ John Hayes, Rockflash, August 1989

One of the things that I most like about producing Audio Gumshoe is the opportunity to bring fresh, new music to my listeners. In this case, I found music that I know would likely be “fresh and new,” but coincidentally is twenty-three years old.

Six Gun Jury is a group that existed in Pittsburgh in the late 1980s. The band was a popular option for many in the area. Local radio stations liked them. They received high praises from local music publications. They even competed against the likes of the Pixies, 10,000 Maniacs, and the Lemonheads for the top of the Pittsburgh alternative record charts. But, unless you lived in the area, you’ve likely not heard them.

The music of this band has now become available to download after all these years. It’s a great flashback opportunity to a time when alternative guitar bands rose to the top of the listening charts. Consider REM‘s “Stand” from the album Green in 1989. Or The Cure with their “Lovesong” and the track “Pictures of You” from the album Disintegration. And what about The Church with their song “Under the Milky Way” from the album Starfish? If the critics in Pittsburgh would have had their way, Six Gun Jury would have been found keeping company with these same acts at the top of the charts in 1989. John Young, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said, “This guitar-based four-piece has quietly become a very tight and powerful group-to-be-reckoned-with.”

The band offers all of their original songs from the album Res Ipsa Loquitur as free downloads. These are mp3s in 320 kbps format. The collection includes the 1988 WXXP regular rotation commercial radio hit “Climb the Scene”, and the songs “All Alone in Rock ‘n Roll” and “Chancellor Pink.” Both finished in WPTS radio’s Top 50 songs of 1987. In addition, 5 bonus songs, recorded by the band in 1987, have also been added to the download package.

About the Show

The first single off the album, “As I Make My Way,” has been making big waves since its debut in September. It received extensive college radio play and the video was added by mtvU to the channel’s rotation.

As I mention in the show, it is a great day when I can open my email to check show submissions and I find a band as tight as this. The songs are well-written, well-produced, and the performances are well-executed. Solid acts like this are sometimes hard to find.

The Commuters do a great job presenting stories about life — perhaps from the view of living in NYC? — to which people world-wide might relate. Their use of dynamics throughout this album shows that they understand music is a direct portrayal of our own lives. None of us lives it loud, full bore, one hundred percent of the time, with much success. We have times when we get quiet, reflect, and even listen to ourselves. I appreciate a band that shares dynamics in their songs.

I mention in this episode that there must, indeed, be something wrong with the music industry when bands like this are not better known. I encourage everyone to give this band a listen, either through this episode, or by downloading their tracks (link below) for FREE! Spread the word and get these guys known by as many people as possible.

We’re really excited and grateful for the strong positive reception the album has been getting,” said Zeeshan Zaidi, lead singer and guitarist for The Commuters. “And I’m equally excited about giving the album away for free on our site – I want as many people to hear it as possible.

The Commuters do a great job presenting stories about life -- perhaps from the view of living in NYC? -- to which people world-wide might relate.

We’re really excited and grateful for the strong positive reception the album has been getting,” said Zeeshan Zaidi, lead singer and guitarist for The Commuters. “And I’m equally excited about giving the album away for free on our site – I want as many people to hear it as possible.

About the Show

Each of the songs I’ve written for Wanderlust has been a reflection of a different place of travel—the album is a collection of songs from my journeys.

Kim Edwards is one of the artists that I featured on my recent “The File Box – Part 2” episode of Audio Gumshoe. Her songs are smooth, soulful pictures of her experiences. She shares talent that comes from a lifetime of deep musical exploration. She explains:

As a kid I studied Alan Menken’s Disney Scores for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. I remember being 14 and doing some online research and I found the company in charge of the scores and I wrote them said ‘I’m a student of orchestration, could you send me some scores?’ and they did!

The music on this episode of Audio Gumshoe is from the album “Wanderlust.” The songs are described as “chamber pop.” Kim’s early study of classical piano has obviously contributed to the lush arrangements and appreciation for the classical styles. She starting training at age four and was a piano performance major in college for a short while. It is obvious that she has a firm grasp of music theory, orchestration, and arrangement, all of which can be heard on Wanderlust.

From her press package:

Kim’s uniquely playful musicality has garnered favorable comparisons to Regina Spektor and Ingrid Michaelson. About the Show
Each of the songs I’ve written for Wanderlust has been a reflection of a different place of travel—the album is a collection of songs from my journeys.
Kim Edwards is one of the artists that I featured on my recent "The File Box - Part 2" episode of Audio Gumshoe. Her songs are smooth, soulful pictures of her experiences. She shares talent that comes from a lifetime of deep musical exploration. She explains:
As a kid I studied Alan Menken’s Disney Scores for The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. I remember being 14 and doing some online research and I found the company in charge of the scores and I wrote them said ‘I’m a student of orchestration, could you send me some scores?' and they did!
The music on this episode of Audio Gumshoe is from the album "Wanderlust." The songs are described as "chamber pop." Kim's early study of classical piano has obviously contributed to the lush arrangements and appreciation for the classical styles.

Wanderlust debuted at #25 in the iTunes Top 200 Singer-Songwriter charts, an impressive feat for a totally D.I.Y. artist who used standard networking platforms like Kickstarter and Facebook for exposure.
She explains that she simply put out a Facebook message asking friends and fans to support her digital release. On the day of her Facebook message she noted that she had been scanning the bottom of the Top 200 Singer-Songwriter list on iTunes. It wasn't until she moved up to #92 that she realized that Wanderlust had debuted that well. By day's end the album had reached #25. She said, "[it] was remarkable considering there wasn't any marketing or publicity."

Hailing from Hanwell in sunny London ‘Suburban Sunshine’ is the incredible debut album release from Et Tu Brucé. Their first single ‘This City/Never Seen You Cry’ was championed by BBC 6 Music, BBC London & X-FM amongst many other tastemaker radio stations. ‘Stars Fall’ followed, and continued where the first release left off, with added coverage on a variety of commercial stations and by Frank Skinner on his Absolute Radio show.

Et Tu Brucé is one of those bands that became an easy favorite for me after my first listen. The music has the familiarity of most of the great classic bands that I’ve enjoyed through the years, while sounding clean, fresh, and well-produced. Though it has a retro sound, the album “Suburban Sunshine” benefits from the newest audio technology, good engineering and a thoughtful ear during the mastering process.

“Suburban Sunshine” almost didn’t make its way to my radar. I had been traveling quite a bit since this past May and found the email submissions for the show stacking up considerably. The email from Monty at Blah Blah Promotions arrived during this time. It would have been very easy for me to move forward through the messages while only giving this one a cursory glance. I’m glad I read it. I’m even more glad that I listened.

Be sure to visit the band’s YouTube page to see the video for the song “Never Say Trevor Again”. Quite fun.
