WP2.71 update for multiple blogs, same server

The following solution works under these conditions.

You must have each of the blog scripts installed in your root domain on a WHM cPanel. I’ve not made it work when the script is installed as a sub-domain.

Only one script needs to be modified. I have the mods in one blog and ran plugin updates for four more with no modifications.

1. In wp-config.php add the following line to your definitions:
define(WP_TEMP_DIR’,'/home/username/public_html/tmp’);

Be sure to change “username” to your cPanel login name

2. Create a folder named tmp under the site’s public_html

3. Ste permissions on the new “tmp” folder to be 777

Close the file and update your blog

Updating WP 2.71 plugins woes

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been laboring to use the internal WP2.71 internal plugin update function.

It used to work just fine… and then, well who knows what happened.

Here’s what my great web host guys have discovered, and you may want to pay attention.

It seems that the folks writing the code for WordPress are a little clunky. They’re really trying to do the best for us (as in protecting from hackers), but they aren’t real adept at writing “universal” code.

We host several WordPress scripts on our shared server using the WHM cPanel function. That means every script is on the same IP address… and that appears to be the problem for the internal updating function.

Our web host guys have done some experimenting and made at least one of our blogs update internally. They also gave me the code to use and see if I could do it on my end.

Well, I didn’t have much time the other day, and it didn’t work as it should. Tomorrow I’ll have several hours and will do some direct comparisons. Just as quickly as I make the solution work, I’ll post it here, as well as at the WordPress.org forum.

Adgitize, kind of a strange name… but hey… when it works, that’s what counts!

Adgitize, founded by Ken Brown, is an advertising program built by a blogger, for bloggers. Ken has several years’ experience in the blogging community, as well as considerable experience in the traffic-driving/advertising area. He’s also a programmer. I’d call this all win-win-win.

I earn income from Adgitize, as I am rewarded for blog posts, as well as for visiting other blogs (up to 50 blogs a day as an advertiser), and I earn income from people who click on my advertising. Again, a multiple win!

I’ve been tweeting for a while, thanks to some networking through various forums, where I’ve been encouraged to set up a Twitter account.

As my marketing strategies evolve, promoting Traffic-Exchange-Business.com, I’m adding Twitter as one of my tools. Don’t expect a ton of tweets from me. I just don’t believe that’s an effective marketing tactic.

What will I tweet?

Each post from “Shari’s Gone Country!”, “My Favorite Online Programs, Techniques, and Tips”, this blog, “Successful Food Service” and “Traffic-Exchange-Business.com Blog” are set to automatically send a tweet announcing new posts.

I’ll also tweet occasionally about things in my life, other than just “marketing stuff”.

Life After Entrecard: Discover StumbleUpon

This blog is an Entrecard-free zone. It is moving on and moving up as I discover the real value of social networking.

My latest study is StumbleUpon.

Instead of mindlessly dropping cards, bribing people to advertise by giving away credits, I am simply visiting blogs/sites, commenting when appropriate, and doing reviews as I find sites not previously reviewed.

In all honesty, I’ve yet to discover the benefit for this blog, or my other blogs, but I’m sure there is some kind of reciprocity.

Because I have a list of virtually every advertiser who ever purchased an ad from me, I am stumbling each and every one in hopes they will see fit to subscribe to my stumble page, too.

As I learn more about StumbleUpon, I’ll do a more in-depth post. From what I’ve heard, it’s pretty a pretty powerful traffic-driving strategy.

Look to the right… See that Turnip?

I’m totally honored that Turnip of Power, one of the founders of CMF Ads has chosen to become my first advertiser.

If you look closely, Entrecard has gone missing. You can read that saga here.

I use the built in Askimet plugin, but I’ve gotten tired of having to delete the same old spammers day in and day out.

I’m fortunate in that I’ve become quite familiar with my cPanel since becoming Co-owner of Traffic-Exchange-Business.com. A lot of what we do is done via the cPanel and the PhpMyAdmin.

Here’s a really simple way to prevent constant spammers. Go to your cPanel. Find the section called “Security” and look for “IP Deny Manager”.

Click on it. All you have to do is copy/paste the spammer’s IP address (should be able to see it in your Askimet spam filter), and click save.

This will eliminate the spam from that particular IP.

Entrecard unveils third-party ads

After several weeks of waiting, Entrecard has launched it’s third-party advertising program.

In a nutshell…

As a viewer, you’ll see no difference. The ads will run in the same widget up to 50% of the times an ad is seen.

As an advertiser…

I have suspended the “Advertiser Loyalty Program” until I can evaluate the impact on how many Entrecredits I receive.

Your ad could conceivably be seen 50% of the 24 hour period, rather than the full 100%.

I would expect the inflated “drops” caused by widget hopping will decline. What clicks you record will be people actually wanting to see your blog or your ad.

At the moment, I am approving all ads. The ads are pre-screened for TOS compliance by Entrecard. Should you see a particularly offensive ad, I would like to know about it. Feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this post.
