For their show in the 1971 Yves asked Jean Claude Vannier to provide the music…if you have not seen this it is one of my favorite moments in fashion.

32-year-old Dutch illustrator and designer Parra has decorated the Amsterdam underground with his playful, bizarre graphics that span a broad base of themes, from introspective to audacious and bawdy. The mostly self-taught artist seems to channel a vintage form with curves, yet with a decidedly modern, post-pop approach. His vibrant and often humorous images feature a distinctive, hand-drawn feel, and can be seen printed on various exhibitions around the globe—club flyers, record sleeves and billboards—as well as silk screened on tees and sweaters.

Parra’s characteristic style has also extended into his music career with electro-rock group Le Le. Their most popular track “Breakfast” features Parra’s typography and imagery set in motion to the song’s pulsating beats and comical (and slightly naughty) lyrics.

Xavier Veilhan, who I had the pleasure of working with last year on his show Veilhan Versailles, had scanned me in 3D a few years ago, as part of his project of sculptures of his friends. He just – finally – produced three life-size sculptures called “yorgo”: one in aluminum, and two in a composite material which feels pretty amazing, gum-like. All three have been sold to collectors already, but I managed to see two of them at the Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin in Paris (and to check if he made me as short as I really am).

The place is a sight to behold, full of brilliantly unexpected artifacts, old books, stuffed animals, shrunken heads, relics and antique gadgets. The ground floor is in fact a contemporary art gallery, whilst the basement has been turned into a “museum” (entry fee: £1). Worth a visit if you’re in east London.

The Keefer hotel recently opened up in Chinatown. Short and long term rooms, w/ a neighbourhood bar downstairs. The top suite is definitely party central. Very Coupland’esque entrance art by Vancouver staple Douglas Coupland. Really wanted to check out the new Bao Bei, which is just a few doors down.

Pop-up / temporary space Light Bar in Blood Alley feels like a Talking Heads or Pet Shop Boys video straight from the 80’s. Situated between some classic crack dens, its impressive that they found this great little space…

Lots of local goodies at Walrus, like this wine bottle pepper mill, made entirely from solid cork, by Ko Jublio. It even comes crated up like a case of wine.

Actually it’s Joao Da Madeira (about an hour north of Porto).  Population 20,000 and easily half the roads are cobblestone.  You can tell Madeira is proud of it’s shoemaking heritage as the town square has this statue of a shoe maker in it’s center.
