?Unfortunately, this is our last Arabic language blog post. Since we are saying goodbye, let’s review some common ways to say goodbye in Modern Standard Arabic.

?Let’s begin with the most common way to say goodbye in Arabic used in both formal and non formal situations.

مع السَّلامة

Meaning “with peace/safety”.

السَّلامُ عَليكُم 

Meaning “peace be upon you”. As well as a greeting, this phrase can also be used to bid someone farewell. It is a formal way to say goodbye and always the safest choice with people you briefly come in contact with such as cab drivers, officials, or sellers at the market.

وداعاً 

Is very formal coming from the word وداع which is literally the act of saying “goodbye” or “farewell”.

إلى اللقاء

Meaning “see you later” or “till our next meeting”.

There is no need to conjugate these depending on gender, singular or plural.

الله معك

“May God be with you”. This is another common way to say goodbye. Works in both formal and informal contexts. Sometimes it’s added to other goodbye phrases or said on its own. You’ll need to conjugate this phrase.

الله مَعَك (male)

الله مَعِك  (female)

الله مَعْكُم  (plural)

What are the nicest memories from your childhood?

In this post, we’ll talk about childhood الطفولة. We’ll first read an Arabic definition of the word طفولة, then practice our Arabic writing and vocabulary skills through a fun exercise where we answer some questions about our own childhood.

Before we read the definition below, can you guess the root word for طفولة?

Yup, child in Arabic is طفل and the plural form is أطفال.

?Important vocabulary to help us understand the definition:

الولادة: birth 

مرحلة: stage

سن المراهقة: adolescence 

مراعاة: consideration 

نفسية الطفل:  the psychology of the child

Before we begin, if someone asks you أيهما تفضل؟ Which/what do you prefer? You can answer by beginning your sentence with …أُفَضِّل I prefer… For example,

A word in the Arabic language

There are two ways to talk about the future in Arabic:

By adding the prefix سَـ ‏‎ or the word سوف  before the present tense forms of the verb, for example:

سيكتب or سوف يكتب “he will write”.

A trip to Fez

We arrived to the beautiful city of Fez. It was hot but dry and we bought water from one of the old markets in Fez called Fez El Bali. We bought many different gifts for my family and friends that symbolize Moroccan history and culture. Then we went to the gates of Fez. Each door is unique and has a name that symbolizes a historical event or an ancient story. We took a lot of pictures at each door. After that, we went to a Moroccan restaurant with original Moroccan decor. Then we drank tea with mint and sugar in a famous and crowded cafe.

God willing, next time we’ll go to this beautiful city together.

The Most Prominent Plans for Space Exploration in 2022

On the way to probe the depths of the universe, scientific efforts are intensifying and countries are competing to discover the mysteries of space…this year will not be less exciting than the previous year in the space race. Countries plan to send robotic explorers to the moon. Some plan to return humans to the surface of this planet in the future. The race to discover the universe is advanced by Space X, as the American company is expected to send the first orbital flight of the world’s most powerful rocket via a reusable launch vehicle. Starship… can be used for manned missions to the Moon and Mars.

The red planet is on the list of discoveries this year, as a new robotic explorer is expected to land on Mars, and the first European spacecraft will be ready for launch during the year. The spacecraft, a joint project of the European Space Agency and Russia, is expected to launch in September. It is likely to land on the surface of the red planet in the year 2023.
