Dobrodružná výprava do divočiny, na kterou se vydává nejnovější film IMAX 3D, zavede diváky do dvou zcela odlišných světů: deštného pralesa na Borneu, kde se potíte i v nejhustším lijáku, a do vyprahlé savany v Keni. (en) In september 1986, Copenhagen was the scene of action, which probably wasn´t unique for Denmark. It´s about an already three years occupied house, in which 60 people live. The owner wants to demolish it - the eviction is announced for the next day... This is a video of a Danish group, which filmed the nine-day defense of the house and all actions everyday. They managed to get a portrait of the life behind the barricades of the people who had chosen to defend the house with militant means.

(de) Im September 1986 war Kopenhagen Schauplatz einer Aktion, die wohl nicht nur für Dänemark einzigartig war. Es geht um ein damals seit über drei Jahren besetztes Haus, in dem rund 60 Leute leben. Die Besitzerin will es abreißen lassen – die Räumung ist für den folgenden Tag angekündigt… Hier beginnt der Videofilm der dänischen Gruppe, die während der neun Tage dauernden Verteidigung der Besetzung bei fast allen Aktionen und Alltagssituationen filmen konnte. Ihr gelang so ein Portrait des Lebens hinter den Barrikaden von den Leuten, die sich entschlossen hatten, das Haus militant zu verteidigen.

The Penan are a group of indigenous people who live in the heart of Borneo forest, mostly in northern Sarawak, but also in Brunei. They have been always nomadic - hunter and gathers, but due to heavy logging activity, for timber and palm oil plantations they are now forced to settle. The Penan people’s health is debilitating as they are more and more exposed to the “outside” world, tibi is one of the big threats, but also malnutrition and so on.

The film tells how even as chattel slavery came to an end in the South after the Civil War, new systems of involuntary servitude took its place with shocking force and brutality. Having been the only Hollywood film maker to continue to make silent films well into the period of sound films, this was Chaplin's first true talking picture as well as his most commercially successful film.[1] More importantly, it was the first major feature film to bitterly satirize Nazism and Adolf Hitler.

(sk) Po skončení války se vrací židovský holič do svého holičství, které sídlí v židovském ghettu hlídaném policií diktátora Hynkela, který tvrdou rukou vládne své zemi Tománii. Hynkel má zájem na tom, aby nakonec všichni židé byli zlikvidováni. Ještě před tím však nachystá expanzi do Osterlichu, o který má však zájem taky druhý diktátor Napoloni, který vládne zemi Baktérii. Mezitím se v židovském ghettu začínají objevovat vzpurné hlasy, které mají zájem na odstranění Hynkela. Do tohoto hnutí je shodou náhod zapleten i holič a jeho přítelkyně Hana.

(en) A group of indigenous people face off against the modern day owners of their ancestral homeland in this drama from Italian filmmaker Marco Bechis. The Guarani Indians are the native peoples of central Brazil, and though a handful of them still cling to the ways passed down by their ancestors, most have been forced to live on a reservation far from their native habitat and wear traditional face paint and loincloths for the sake of tourists and bird watchers in order to earn a living. Depression and suicide is common among the Guarani, and Osvaldo (Abrisio da Silva Pedro) and Ireneu (Ademilson Concianza Verga) decide its time for them to stand up for their people after finding the bodies of two young Guarani women who took their own lives. With the help of tribal leader Nadio (Ambrosio Vilhalva), they organize a protest and soon a band of Guarani peoples are occupying a farm owned by Moreira (Leonardo Medeiros) and his spouse (Chiara Caselli). Nadio insists that Moreira's farm is on land that once belonged to the Guarani tribe and was stolen from them; however, Moreira and his wife are racists unsympathetic to the Indians' cause, and as the conflict between the farmer and the Guarani becomes more heated, Nadio's alcoholism makes him increasingly unstable.

(cz) Od Amazonky až po daleký jih se kdysi rozprostíralo území jedné z nejstarších indiánských komunit Guaraníů. Dnes jich na území brazilského státu Mato Grosso do Sul žije třicet tisíc. Zatímco staří odevzdaně přijímají otrocké područí nebo hledají spásu v moudrosti a magii svých předků, mladí se čím dál častěji uchylují k sebevraždě. Jedna skupina těchto Indiánů se rozhodne opustit rezervaci a usadit se na tradičně obývaném území, které již několik generací patří bílému muži. Mladý Nadio se připravuje na roli šamana. Musí bojovat nejen sám se sebou, ale také se záhadným duchem, který ho pronásleduje. Střet dvou rozdílných kultur je pojatý nejen jako napínavý příběh s nádechem magické atmosféry, ale také jako metafora.

There's no easy way to address a highly charged subject like the sexual abuse of young boys by Catholic priests, but with Twist of Faith, director Kirby Dick has taken a straightforward approach, using neither fanfare nor frills to create an unflinching but highly personal documentary about this disgraceful episode. The 2004 film's focus is on one place, Toledo, Ohio, and primarily on two men. On the one hand, there's fireman Tony Comes, mid-thirties, married with two kids. Some twenty years earlier, he'd been molested by his then-priest; callow, impressionable, in need of love, Comes found himself in a situation he describes as "too screwed up to question," with the result that he was "so confounded that (he did) nothing." On the other hand, there's Dennis Gray, the priest in question; a thoroughly repellent individual, Gray is seen in a 2003 legal deposition, evading questions on the advice of his lawyer. But Comes is far from silent. Having spent two decades racked with guilt and shame and thinking he was the only victim, Comes is galvanized into action when the abuse scandal becomes national news. He shows remarkable courage and honesty, keeping nothing from his wife and young kids, joining a support group, even visiting the cottage where Gray committed his unspeakable acts; determined to make not only the pedophile priests but those who ignored, lied about, and covered up the abuse acknowledge and take responsibility for what happened, he also files a lawsuit. All of this is done at considerable personal cost. What happened to Comes and the other victims we see here went even deeper than the nightmares and family problems they experienced; it shook their very souls, calling into question their lifelong faith in the essential benevolence of an institution that has betrayed them. Grim but compelling, Twist of Faith makes for very sobering viewing.

Pointing to poaching as a primary threat while noting the lion's pride of place on the list for eco-tourists-an industry that brings in 200 billion dollars per year worldwide-the Jouberts build a solid case for both the moral duty we have to protect lions (as well as other threatened "big cats," tigers among them) and the economic sense such protection would make. And when one takes into account the fact that big cats are at the very top of the food chain-and that their elimination would wreak havoc on all species below them, causing a complete ecosystem collapse-the need takes on a supreme urgency.

Lvi nejsou na rozdíl od slonů nijak zvlášť chráněni na základě pověření vlády nebo prostřednictvím mezinárodních smluv. Tento fakt je odrazovým můstkem pro filmaře Derecka a Beverly Joubertovi, kteří vědí, že část zisku z turistického ruchu může lvy a jiné velké kočky zachránit před primárními hrozbami, mezi něž patří především pytlačení.

(cz) Snímek režiséra Ristearda O'Domhnailla je strhujícím záznamem čtyřletého nerovného boje obyvatel irské rybářské vesnice Rossport s firmou Shell. Ta v přilehlém moři narazila na ložiska zemního plynu a se souhlasem vládních úředníků začala se stavbou potrubí, které mělo vést přes pozemky místních farmářů. Rozpoutala tím jednu z nejdramatičtějších protestních akcí v novodobé irské historii. Obyvatelé Rossportu, kteří se stavbou od počátku zásadně nesouhlasili, se postavili na odpor a pomocí starých rybářských lodí, nafukovacích člunů i vlastními těly po několik let všemožně bránili své území. Když nepomohla ani intervence u Evropského soudu, zahájila místní učitelka protestní hladovku a jeden z rybářů se rozhodl svou bárkou blokovat cestu obřímu tankeru. Stavba další části potrubí pak mohla pokračovat jen za masivní policejní asistence a za mlžení zodpovědných zástupců státu. Napínavě sestříhaný dokument podtržený působivou hudební složkou a využívající dramatické záběry z protestních akcí i úchvatné scenerie panenské přírody v okolí Rossportu nabízí ukázku občanského aktivismu v té nejryzejší podobě.

Švédsky režisér Fredrik Gertten v Los Angeles sledoval súdny proces dvanástich plantážnych robotníkov, ktorí mali zdravotné problémy a trpeli na neplodnosť. Spor sa vedie práve o tom, či tieto problémy sú alebo nie sú spôsobené zakázanými pesticídmi, ktoré nadnárodná potravinárska korporácia Dole používa na svojich banánových plantážach v Nikaragui. Dole sa snažila zbrániť premietaniu tohto filmu v USA v júni 2009 a žalovala tvorcov filmu za šírenie nepravdivých informácií a ohováranie. Tvorcovia filmu však podnikli rovnaký krok. Prednedávnom ale obe strany svoju žalobu stiahli.

(cz) Loňský listopad uplynulo 25 let od jedné z největších a nejúspěšnějších přímých akcí v oblasti ochrany práv zvířat. 6. listopadu 1986 se malé, ospalé hlavní město Islandu probudilo do zvláštního rána. Dvěma
velrybářským lodím, jindy triumfálně kotvícím v přístavu, koukala z vody u mola jen vrchní část můstku a stěžeň. Už jen z faktu, že potopené byly dvě lodě, bylo zřejmé, že šlo nikoliv o nehodu, ale o sabotáž. Policie okamžitě rozjela rozsáhlou pátrací akci, ale tou dobou už byla dvojice aktivistů organizace Sea Shepherd v bezpečí v zahraničí. Za akt sabotáže se škodou ve řádech milionů dolarů nebyl nikdy nikdo předveden před soud. Island na lov velryb uvalil moratorium, které bylo prolomeno teprve před několika lety.

Pětadvacet let po této sabotáži se na Island vydává mladá novinářka, kterou psaní o obnoveném lovu velryb přivede na fascinující putování po stopách sabotáže a pátrání jak po jejích motivacích, průběhu a provedení, tak po jejích důsledcích.

„Chtěl bych jen říct lidem, že mohou udělat tu samou věc, pokud budou dostatečně odhodlaní a budou v ní věřit. Měli by si určit tak vysoký cíl, jak jen chtějí, a mohou ho dosáhnout. Nemyslete si, že na světě existuje jen jedna sorta lidí, která je schopna udělat něco takového. Tak to není. Někteří lidé se prostě dostali na úroveň, že už to nemohou tolerovat. Jakmile v sobě odbourali bariéry, cítí se povinni řídit se vyšší spravedlností a ne právem, které bylo zavedeno vládnoucími strukturami aby chránilo je a jejich zájmy. (en) Last November marked 25th anniversary of one of the biggest and most successful direct actions at the animal liberation field. On the November 6th 1986, the small and sleepy capital of Iceland woke up to a very special morning. Two whaling ships were found laying at the bottom of the harbor. From the very fact that there were two ships sunk it was clear that it was an act of sabotage, not an accident. Police immediately started massive search operation but the two saboteurs from the Sea Shepherd organization were already abroad and safe. Nobody was ever at trial for this multi-million act of sabotage. Iceland put moratorium on whaling which was only called off few years ago.

Twenty five years after the sabotage a young journalist is coming to Iceland to write the piece on the renewed whaling. Instead she starts to follow a fascinating story of a sabotage, try to learn about its motives and actual executing as well as consequences.

“I just want to tell people that they can do the same thing if they are committed enough and if they believe in it enough. They should set their goals as high as they want and they can achieve them. Don´t like that there is only this one element of people in the world that do this type of things. It isn´t that way. It´s just that some people have reached certain level and they just can´t tolerate it any more.
