Lately the weather has been a bit miserable - perhaps that's why this drawing was more inspired by snuggly jumpers, love and coziness than by spring. But while it has been raining every single day, the leaves have secretly returned to the trees and it's so green and pretty whenever the sun comes out for a few minutes. Pokémon Battle Royale / Nurse Joy

This is my illustration of Nurse Joy for The Pokémon Battle Royale exhibition at Light Grey Art Gallery in Minneapolis. 151 artists drew 151 Pokémon, and then some more artists (including me) drew some of the human characters. All illustrations are available to buy as prints at the gallery. The show runs from April 20th to May 11th.

Oh Comely / Someone once told me

I drew this illustration for the latest issue of the lovely Oh Comely magazine, as part of the 'Someone once told me' illustration feature. It includes a lot of sensible advice, illustrated by Kate McDevitt, Ben Javens, Sarah Abbot and Sarah Julia Clark.

Once when I was very small I drew on my face and got a horrible rash all over my body. For years after, my mum told me not to draw on my face with felt tip pens (even though I wasn't really tempted to repeat this experiment.)

Yesterday I got an exciting package in the post, filled with the greeting cards I recently illustrated for Red Cap Cards. There are six cards, three are brand new designs and the other three are made from illustrations that have been very popular as prints. My favourite is called 3D Hello - it has a girl with 3D glasses on the front and a cat on the back! All cards are now available from my Etsy & Dawanda shops.

DPI is a lovely design magazine from Taiwan and there is a feature about my work in Issue 152 / December 2011. According to Google Translate (which I know isn't necessarily accurate, so correct me if it's wrong), the magazine is calling me 'The Girl With The Cat's Small Universe'. Not quite as cool as The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (Lisbeth Salander) or The Girl Who Was On Fire (Katniss Everdeen), but I found it quite amusing.

This is some hand-lettering I did a while ago. I love playing with typography and lettering, so this was a fun little personal project. It's based on scribbles and notes from my sketchbooks, so it isn't really meant to make a lot of sense - especially since it contains a lot of made-up words...

JUNIPER GIRLS is a personal project I have been working on for the past year.

Whenever possible, in between commissions and other projects I made some time to work on these ink drawings. I started drawing without a plan and girls appeared on paper and started telling me their stories.
Drawing in that way is one of my favourite things to do. It's a little like meditation but a lot more entertaining. I took my time with this project to have a whole pile of drawings to pick from for the final booklet. And it's called Juniper Girls, because while working on it I kept thinking about Juniper. These are some pictures of the final booklet and some progress photos. Anyway, I hope you like it. It's available here and here.
