Tobacco smoking has been fingered (e.g., U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare [U.S. DHEW], 1964) as a major cause of mortality and morbidity, responsible for an estimated 434,000 deaths per year in the United States (Centers for Disease Control [CDC], 1991a).

But, did you know that the so much publicized 400,000+ "smoking-related' deaths in the US simply does not exist?

That number is a heavily slanted, politically manipulated estimate using a computer model programmed with the assumptions of causality in synergy with the current political agenda against tobacco.

It DOES NOT represent an actual bodycount.

Some claim that about 10 million people in the United States have died from causes attributed to smoking (including heart disease, emphysema, and other respiratory diseases) since the first Surgeon General's report on smoking and health in 1964 with 2 million of these deaths the result of lung cancer alone. In fact, they like to say that "Cigarette smoking is the single most preventable cause of premature death in the United States."

They declare one in every five deaths in the United States is smoking related. Every year, smoking kills more than 276,000 men and 142,000 women. (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Smoking-attributable mortality and years of potential life lost--United States, 1990. Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report 1993;42(33):645-8.)

How do they explain why non-smokers (75% of heart disease deaths) die from heart disease?

AMD Hops On The Consumer 45NM Bandwagon With Phenom II

If you found yourself wondering what the boys from Advanced Micro Devices (better known as AMD) were doing last year when Intel launched their 45nm desktop PC chip, the Intel Core i7, then wonder no more because earlier today that very question was answered.

Called the Phenom II, the new chip is a quad-core family of desktop processors running up to 3 GHz with up to 8 Mbytes of on-board cache. The Phenom II uses the new architecture of having on-board memory controllers and high-speed processor interconnects which reportedly give the chips up to 20 percent improvements in performance over the original 65nm Phenom CPUs which ran at up to 2.6 GHz. The boost comes from faster data rates, doubling of total cache, improvements in instructions per clock and use of DDR3.

In an excerpt from EETimes.com, Simon Solotko, senior brand manager in AMD's desktop division was quoted as saying,

"This will be a great spoiler product, well positioned against Core i7. There's no good reason to spend hundreds of dollars more on a platform"

AMD is reportedly pricing the 3.0 GHz Phenom II for $275 as compared to the competing Intel Core i7 3.2 GHz costing $999.

1. Apakah hukum melakukan ibadah korban?

J: Korban ialah penyembelihan haiwan tertentu pada tanggal 10, 11, 12 dan 13 Zulhijjah dengan maksud untuk mendekatkan diri kepada Allah S.W.T. Hukum menyembelih haiwan korban pada Hari Raya Eidul Adha atau Hari Raya Korban ke atas umat Islam yang mampu ialah sunat muakkad dan meninggalkannya adalah makruh.
Allah S.W.T berfirman;
“Maka solatlah kamu untuk Tuhanmu dan menyembelihlah”. - Surah al-Kautsar: ayat 2
Mengikut tafsiran ulama maksud solat atau sembahyang pada ayat ini ialah solat Eidul Adha dan yang dimaksudkan dengan menyembelih ialah berkorban.

2: Apakah dalil yang mensyariatkan ibadah korban?

J: Dalil yang mensyariatkan ibadah korban ialah firman Allah S.W.T.;
“Maka solatlah kamu untuk Tuhanmu dan menyembelihlah”. - Surah al-Kautsar, ayat 2. Maksud solat ataupun sembahyang pada ayat ini ialah solat Eidul Adha dan yang dimaksudkan dengan menyembelih ialah berkorban. Imam Ibnu Jarir mentafsirkan ayat tersebut seperti berikut:
“Jadikanlah solatmu ikhlas hanya untuk Allah semata dengan sama sekali tidak mengharapkan kepada selain daripada-Nya. Demikian juga korban yang kamu tunaikan, niatkanlah hanya untuk Allah, tidak untuk berhala, sebagai tanda syukur terhadap apa yang telah dianugerahkan Allah kepadamu yang tidak terhingga banyaknya”. 3: Apakah kelebihan melaksanakan ibadah korban?

J: Banyak sekali hadis yang menerangkan akan kelebihan korban, ia antara ibadah yang mendapat ganjaran yang amat besar daripada Allah. Dalam sebuah hadis, Rasulullah S.A.W bersabda:
“Tidak ada amalan yang dilakukan oleh anak Adam pada Hari Raya Korban yang lebih disukai Allah melainkan menumpahkan darah (menyembelih binatang korban). Sesungguhnya binatang korban itu akan datang pada Hari Kiamat bersama tanduk, kuku dan bulunya dan Allah memberi pahala ibadah korban itu sebelum darah binatang korban itu jatuh ke bumi. Oleh itu, elokkanlah korban kamu.” Hadis riwayat Tirmidzi, Ibnu Majah dan Hakim. Wallahuaklam

4: Apakah hikmah korban?

J: Hikmah sebenar sesuatu ibadah hanya Allah S.W.T. sahaja yang tahu. Walau bagaimanapun ibadah korban yang menjadi amalan umat Islam sekarang mempunyai kaitan yang sangat rapat dengan peristiwa korban di antara Nabi Ibrahim A.S. dengan anaknya Nabi Ismail A.S. Maka dengan melihat kepada peristiwa tersebut beberapa hikmah dapat disimpulkan;

1. Ia menguji kekuatan iman dan keteguhan mental orang yang berkorban.
2. Supaya orang yang berkorban dapat menjauhkan diri daripada sifat terlalu sayangkan harta dan kedekut dengan harta yang Allah S.W.T kurniakan kepadanya.
3. Berkongsi merasai nikmat Allah S.W.T dengan golongan yang kurang bernasib baik atau miskin.
4. Membudayakan dalam masyarakat salah satu syiar Islam iaitu berkorban.

5: Adakah ibadah korban dilakukan pada zaman Nabi-nabi yang terdahulu dan bagaimana ia dilaksanakan?

J: Mengikut riwayat yang boleh kita perolehi amalan ibadah korban telah dilaksanakan dari zaman Nabi Adam A.S lagi sehingga zaman Jahiliyyah sebelum kedatangan Islam. Secara ringkasnya sejarah perlaksanaannya adalah seperti berikut;

Pada zaman Nabi Adam A.S, peristiwa korban Habil dan Qabil menunjukkan betapa korban memainkan peranan yang sangat penting dalam menentukan hidup manusia. Kisah mereka telah dinukilkan di dalam al-Quran surah al-Maidah, ayat 27.
Maksud Ayat: “Dan bacakanlah kepada mereka berita tentang dua anak Adam iaitu Habil dan Qabil dengan benar, ketika anak Adam itu mempersembahkan korbannya, maka Allah menerima korban salah seorang dari keduanya iaitu Habil dan tidak diterima korban yang seorang lagi iaitu Qabil. Qabil berkata: Aku pasti membunuhmu? Habil berkata: “Sesunguhnya Allah hanya menerima korban dari orang-orang yang bertakwa”.

Pada zaman Nabi Nuh A.S pula, setelah peristiwa taufan berlaku, Nabi Nuh menyediakan satu tempat khas untuk korban. Ada riwayat yang mengatakan bahawa haiwan korban tersebut dibakar.

Manakala pada zaman Nabi Ibrahim A.S, korban bermula dengan roti dan sebagainya, kemudian anak sapi, kambing dan biri-biri. Peristiwa penyembelihan anak Nabi Ibrahim iaitu Nabi Ismail ialah ujian pengorbanan yang paling getir dihadapi oleh Nabi Ibrahim A.S. Kisah ini telah Allah rakamkan dalam al-Quran surah Ash-Shaffat, ayat 103-107.

Pada zaman Nabi Musa A.S, cara korban ialah dengan membahagikan binatang yang disediakan untuk korban kepada 2 bahagian, sebahagian dilepaskan dan sebahagian lagi disembelih.

Budaya dan amalan berkorban ini berterusan sehingga ke zaman bangsa Yunani dan Rumani, pada umumnya mereka membahagi-bahagikan daging korban kepada orang yang hadir. Semasa upacara penyembelihan, pendeta mereka memercikkan madu dan air, kemudian madu diganti dengan air mawar. Adat ini terdapat sampai sekarang. Di samping bangsa Yunani, korban dengan melakukan penyembelihan terhadap manusia juga berlaku, ini dilakukan oleh bangsa Finiki, Parsi, Rom dan bangsa Mesir kuno. Wallahuaklam

6: Bolehkah penyembelihan haiwan korban diniatkan sekali dengan aqiqah?

J: Pada hari raya korban kita disunatkan menyembelih haiwan korban, begitu juga pada hari ketujuh kelahiran seorang anak, kita dituntut melaksanakan aqiqah untuknya, jadi apabila bertemu hari raya korban bertepatan dengan hari ketujuh kelahiran anak, maka mengikut pandangan ulama mazhab Hanbali, kita boleh gabungkan niatkan perlaksanaan korban tersebut dengan niat untuk aqiqah anak, seperti mana jika bertemu hari Jumaat dengan Hari Raya, maka saudara boleh niatkan mandi sunat keduanya dengan sekali mandi sahaja. 7: Siapakah yang dituntut untuk melaksanakan korban?

J: Menyembelih haiwan korban pada Hari Raya Korban dianjurkan ke atas seluruh umat Islam, akan tetapi tuntutan sebenar ialah kepada yang mampu, sehingga Rasulullah S.A.W memberi amaran dalam beberapa buah hadis kepada mereka yang tidak menunaikan ibadah korban, antara hadis tersebut ialah;
Maksud hadis, “Sesiapa yang mempunyai kelapangan (mampu), tetapi tidak berkorban, janganlah ia mendekati tempat solat kami.” Wallahualam

8: Apakah jenis korban yang dilarang oleh Islam?

J: Korban yang diamalkan oleh seluruh umat Islam pada setiap tahun diniatkan hanya kerana Allah S.W.T, dengan tujuan mendekatkan diri kepada Allah S.W.T di samping mendapat ganjaran lain yang telah Allah S.W.T janjikan.. Oleh itu, mana-mana korban atau penyembelihan yang diniatkan kepada selain Allah S.W.T, seperti korban yang dilakukan untuk memuja sesuatu, atau untuk tujuan ilmu hitam, memuja syaitan dan sebagainya, serta tidak bertujuan untuk mendekatkan diri kepada Allah S.W.T. dan ganjaran yang disediakan, maka ia adalah dilarang oleh Islam. PIKOM PC Fair 2008 (III) - Dates and Venues

PIKOM PC Fair is on their way!I used to go to the PIKOM PC Fair whenever they runs it.But mostly when it was held at the Penang International Sports Arena, Penang.As a USM Engineering students, the enthusiast of owning a high performance PC, lookout for the best and latest notebook laptop always there, and PC Fair is one of the place for me to waste my money other than eating fast food.

As far as i can remember,I bought my first digital camera during PIKOM PC Fair, my first desktop also was from PIKOM PC Fair. It cost me about RM2000 for an Intel Pentium 4,with 2.66MgHz processor,DDR1 256RAM,40GB hardisk,CDR-ROM,SRT Samsung Monitorand a lousy built in graphic and sound card.At that cost now, i can buy a very-very good desktop compared back then where LCD screen price thousand of ringgit.Now, when you buy a desktop, you can easily get together with LCD screen rather than a big pile of SRT monitor.Looks like digital technology has become cheaper these days.Even the Intel Atom notebook cost only RM1600++ now.I wish i had so much money where i can spent buying all those things.

Well, i already fed up with my Desktop right now, at this moment..i hope will find a new one this coming December.

SEMA 2008: Hyundai Genesis Coupe tuned by HKS and Street Concepts. In addition to the race-ready RMR Genesis Coupe, HKS and Street Concepts brought out their own rear-wheel-drive two-doors to the party.

The Street Concepts coupe builds off the 3.8-liter V6 model, coating the exterior in a "Stealth Fighter-inspired" paint scheme and matching it to a custom grille, tinted head and tail lights and an APR wing. 19-inch Volk hoops wrapped in Pirelli rubber fill the wheel wells and frame uprated Brembo brakes. The only substantive engine mods are a K&N cold air intake and Magnaflow cat back exhaust. Inside, it's more about show than go, with a pair of Recaro Sportster Topline seats, black suede accents and an Infinity audio system.

HKS received a turbocharged 2.0-liter model to build its masterpiece, and with a GT2835R turbo upgrade, HKS stainless tubular manifold, intercooler, sequential blow-off valve, carbon fiber air box and cat-back exhaust, the HKS Genesis is a good indication of what the first round of modded coupes could look like when it goes on sale this Spring. In addition to the engine upgrades, the suspension has been swapped out with HKS Hipermax III coilovers, along with a functional aero kit designed by Ken Style – HKS's Time Attack partner.

F1 champion Hamilton ecstatic after Brazil drama

LONDON, England === Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton admitted "his heart was in his mouth" during the nail-biting conclusion to the Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Englishman snatched the title at the final corner of the most dramatic race of a dramatic season, despite Felipe Massa doing all he could by winning in front of his home fans.

Late-race rainfall had unpicked Hamilton's best-laid plans to cruise home in the fifth place he needed to deny Massa the crown and it looked like he would blow his chances of becoming champion for the second season running.

But the McLaren man came good in the end, overtaking Toyota's Timo Glock, who had stayed out on dry tires as the heavens opened, to snatch fifth with the checkered flag in sight.

"Before it started to rain I was quite comfortable. I was able to stay ahead of [Sebastian] Vettel and then it started to drizzle and I didn't want to take any risks," said Hamilton who, at 23, becomes F1's youngest-ever champion.

"Then he got past me and I was told that I had to get in front of him, and I couldn't believe it. There was nothing I could do, I was just trying to keep the car on the track and my heart was in my mouth.

"Then at the last corner I managed to get past Timo Glock and I'm telling you it was just amazing. I was shouting, 'Do I have it, do I have it?' and then they [the team] came on [the radio] when I was at turn one and they told me [I was world champion] and I was ecstatic.

"It has been such a long journey and with a lot of support from people back home. My team did a fantastic job all year and all the sacrifices we made, I'm so thrilled to be able to do this for everyone."

Massa was world champion until Hamilton passed Glock and TV cameras showed his family jumping for joy in the Ferrari garage before they twigged that victory had not been enough after all.

Massa was in tears on the slow-down lap and repeatedly beat his chest in front of his adoring fans at Interlagos, but he was gracious in defeat.

He said: "We did everything to perfection and we almost managed to pull it off. Sport is like this and one has to accept that. Congratulations to Lewis, whoever gets the most points deserves the title.

"It was a season of highs and lows and we have learned a lot, from the good moments and from our mistakes. I am very proud of the whole team and how much support they have given me during this fantastic season.

"I can leave Interlagos with my head held high because once again I have won in front of my home crowd and because this is an unforgettable day."

No one could have foreseen the pivotal role Glock was to play in the denouement to a race that left viewers on the edge of their seats.

And the German dispelled any suggestions he deliberately slowed to allow Hamilton through.

"I was on dry tires at the end of the race when it was raining quite badly and it was just impossible on the last lap," he explained.

"I was fighting as hard as I could but it was so difficult to just keep the car on the track and I lost positions right at the end of the lap."

Massa's second Sao Paulo win coupled with 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen's third place gave Ferrari their 16th constructors' Fernando Alonso rounded off a strong end to the season with second place for Renault.

Sony Laptop Batteries Still Going BOOM In USA

Announcements like this have become so common that they've failed to get us worried/excited any more. But since we received an earful from Sony Malaysia for not being clear enough when something like this last happened the last time, here's the deal - HP, Toshiba and Dell have issued a recall IN THE USA of 100,000 Sony battery packs found in laptops sold between 2004 and 2006. Of these 100,000 units, only 35,000 units are located IN THE USA, while the remaining 65,000 have been sold worldwide.

If you indeed do live IN THE USA, you might want to check out the US Consumer Product Safety Commission website to find out if your battery is prone to going boom.
