I recently heard about fans dancing to Haruhi Suzumiya. I had to see these fans in action for myself. After watching these videos I have to say they were actually pretty good. They had the movements and timing down just like Haruhi, Yuki, and Mikuru.

It made me want to get up and dance. Not only does it look like fun but it’s a great way to exercise (but I’ll be honest, I doubt I’ll ever learn the routine. I don’t think I have the patience to learn a whole routine. But these fans do)

Let me know what you think. Do you think you can do better? I’d love see you try. ;-) Send me the link of your video and I’ll post it here on the blog.

Geass Emblem
The bird-like sigil that represents the so-called Power of the King is perhaps the single most prevalent symbol in all of Code Geass. Most commonly appearing in Lelouch’s eye, it is a harbinger of grief for whatever hapless victim it is used upon. If there is an overarching symbol for the series, it would be this one.

Inverted Geass Emblem
The vile Jeremiah Gottwald is blessed with the Geass canceller, and therefore able to undo the effects of a Geass within his area of effect. The circular design is unlike that of Lelouch’s Geass. Furthermore, unlike the regular symbol of the Geass power, this emblem is inverted. This is understandable, considering that it undoes the power of the Geass used by others.

The Black Knights
The formal rebellion against the Holy Empire of Britannia uses a symbol that bares some resemblance to the original Geass Emblem, and is also avian in appearance. Generally it manifests itself with a silver and blue color scheme, and has an appearance vaguely similar to that of a lance.

The Imperial Britannian Family
Yet another design featuring the indistinct theme of flight among the many symbols through the anime, the Imperial Family’s personal crest appears to be a golden stave on a purple field that erupts into a pair of wings. The top portion extends into a definite point on each end.

The Knights of the Round
The Holy Empire of Britannia’s most elite soldiers used a symbol that was also avian in appearance, as many of the other emblems in the series are. A golden staff bearing wing-like projections represented the group. The emblem is probably based on the design of the Imperial Family’s crest, as the military forces of many real life monarchies so base their designs on the ruling administration. Most visibly, it was worn charged on the inside of the black areas of the Knights’ uniforms.

Ashford Academy
The school that LeLouch and Nunnally attend is the rather opulent Ashford Academy. The emblem of the school has a decidedly European flavor, and is relatively close to the Fleur-de-Lis in appearance. It is prominently featured on the school uniform of the aforementioned academy.

Zero’s Mask
The Mask of Zero is far more than simply the device which LeLouch’s uses to hide his identity when acting as the leader of the Black Knights. It is the very figure of a revolution and the icon with which to crown it. The dark, rounded, and decidedly futuristic mask is used as a symbol on countless occasions. Whether it is the constant reminder issued by the Britannian government that Zero is a wanted man, or the one million Zero costumes issued to the faithful, it is an enduring symbol of those who stand against the occupation of Area 11.

The King
Lelouch is an avid chess player, and therefore it should come as no surprise that the King from a game of chess plays such an important role in the series. With colors that match the auras of the characters, the Kings used throughout the series not only represent the skill and reasoning that typifies every move in the anime. Indeed, the very fact that it is a member of the royalty suggests an air of the political maneuvering that is found throughout Code Geass.

Orange’s Mask
In his duties as a Geass Directorate Agent, Jeremiah Gottwald saw and did many terrible things. In his use of the Geass Canceller, he only served to further this reputation. Therefore the somewhat cybernetic mask that he wore and the infamous incident that gave him the name Orange became symbols of his estranged loyalties.

Thought Elevator
The center of the thought elevator’s matrix bares its own sigil, seen within the massive porthole that forms most of its design. The mysterious device is somehow connected the ability of Geass. Throughout the series, it becomes more and more important to those associated with the Code R military research project that will stop at nothing to achieve total power.

The Rising Sun
The flag of Japan in real life, the Rising Sun banner (Hinomaru) represents the Japanese nation and people. It appears throughout Code Geass to serve in this respect, and it is featured prominently several times in the series.

The Britannian Flag
The coat of arms on this flag is unique, but it is very similar to the flag used by the United Kingdom in real life. Saint George’s Cross is used to indicate England and the English people. Presumably, the lion is a Royal symbol, and the crown represents the reigning imperialists.

Chinese Federation
The Chinese state in the world of Code Geass is represented by an eight-sided star with pips along its outside. As a flag, the symbol rests in the center of a burgundy field. A real flag used by the Republic of China in 1911, and used by the actual Chinese military until 1928 influences the in universe Chinese Federation’s flag design.

United Federation of Nations
The United Federation of Nations is the group of allied states that come together as one coalition in conflict of Britannia’s domination of the world. The flag of this nation is a yellow field charged with a white dove and three circles at the point where the dove’s wings meet. Most likely, the dove is a symbol of peace and unity.

The Gods
The concept of the ‘collective human unconsciousness’ is often referred to as the Gods in the universe of Code Geass. Represented by a large, pustule-like column, Charles, Marianne, C.C., and V.V. vow to destroy the Gods. The World of C, which appears to be similar to Jupiter, stands behind the column. This World is, in itself, the collective subconscious of all humans.

Near

L was the single greatest detective across the entire globe. However, after his demise, it was up to the staff of Wammy’s House to provide replacements in the world’s direst hour for its battle against Kira. What became of L’s death was a brilliant pair of young minds being thrust onto the scene. Nevertheless, the first of these two youthful geniuses, Mello, decided not to pursue this course of action, and the world was left with one detective on the straight and narrow: Near.

He combines both the playfulness of a child with the cold and calculating determination of the original L. Many times, he even took this mischievous demeanor to a dangerous and deadly level. To replicate his actions would take skill and a shrewd nature. However, with these tips you can start your journey on the road to following the only individual who was truly able to unwrap the plans of the alleged God of the New World.

1) Have a collection of several finger puppets. Near always used these to plot out scenarios that he postulated about while on the Kira investigation. In fact, one might begin to wonder whether or not Near had some sort of lust for power he was fulfilling with the idea that he could control the puppets.

2) In addition to finger puppets, have a collection of several classic toys. Near was seen on multiple occasions with a toy robot that appeared to be out of the golden era of pulp fiction.

3) Learn a hobby such as darts or running a domino rally. Both were favored pastimes of the sometimes apparently idle-minded Near.

4) Find insight in all things. Near worked out the solutions to visual games, such as jigsaw puzzles, when his mind was on other topics.

5) Remain calm at all times and allow cooler heads to prevail. In many ways, Near was more level headed than Ryuzaki.

6) Read the Death Note manga and, likewise, indulge in the anime series. Both provide the vital clues that Near sought after in his investigation.

7) If cosplaying as Near, a set of clothes that err on the large side could be very useful. His usual manner of dress was similar to a large set of men’s sleepwear.

8) A white wig may be of use, as well, if you are trying to cosplay as the character. Near’s hair is messy, though not as extreme as the original L. Likewise, he has a tousled effect to it, however not as extreme as Mello. One wonders whether this was intentional by Takeshi Obata to demonstrate Near as the [next to the last] penultimate character.

9) Make sure to acquire as much Death Note memorabilia as possible so that you will always be reminded of the series that Near calls home.

10) Understand your own weaknesses and learn to work around them. Near understands that his social networks are small, and relies on his team to work with him when such skills are needed.

11) Never give up when faced with adversity. Near wanted results more than anything else.

12) Sometimes, when appropriate, display a bit of a wry sense of wit. Near was described as being somewhat cheeky.

13) Always be able to plan ahead. At the beginning of his final showdown, Near brought a mask (ironically of Ryuzaki’s visage) to protect him from the power of Kira.

14) Develop your own natural intellect. Near was never one to stop learning and adapting to new situations.

15) Balance out immature and mature aspects of your personality. In many ways, Near is a child with the brain of a research scientist.

I was talking to our Bleach expert about Ichigo, the Espada and Tite Kubo and the progression of the series. He then asked me if I had ever seen the Bleach musicals? I was shocked. :O I had no idea they had actual musicals of Bleach.

So, I headed over to YouTube and wouldn’t you know it, there they were, the Bleach musicals. And despite the fact that I had no idea what they were saying and singing about I found it quite entertaining. There was Ichigo, Hitsugaya, Urahara, and even Gin singing, dancing, and jumping around on stage. I imagine it took some serious choreography to coordinate those dance routines with the actors and actresses wielding zanpakutōs.

I also found the costumes amazing. There was one actor playing Hitsugaya. He totally looked liked the leader of squad 10. His hair was incredible – I wonder if he dyed it that color or was it a wig?

If you’re into cosplay you will definitely be inspired after watching these musicals.

If you are a Bleach fan, you must watch at least a snippet of the musicals if only to prove you are the ultimate Bleach fan. And if you’re looking for something entertaining to watch that will make you laugh out loud then these musicals are a must see.

There have been issues with taking an anime/manga and transforming it into a live action version (especially transforming it for an American audience ex. Dragonball) but giving the choice between watching a live action version of Bleach (if they ever decide to create an Americanized version) and watching the Bleach Musicals . . I’d have to choose the musicals. They already feel more authentic then any Americanized live action movie to date and that’s saying much – I mean there’s sing for crying out loud in musicals – actual singing and dancing.

See for yourself and let me know what you think.
