It seems like yesterday that I was bringing him home from the hospital.

Jace was definitely our biggest surprise. A few months after Zander was born, he started refusing my milk. (He was exclusively breastfed.) I couldn't figure out what was going on, so I turned to the ladies on my Moms Message Board. One of them suggested that I might be pregnant and I should take a test. I laughed (literally out loud) and typed that I hadn't even started my cycle again since Zander was born. She still thought I should test anyway, and then the rest of the ladies started chiming in that I needed to test. I decided to test, just to prove them all wrong. Only, I didn't prove them wrong, I proved myself wrong! There was no mistaking that second pink line on the test.

Shock set in, and I just couldn't believe that I was pregnant. I spent the first 20 weeks of my pregnancy in a daze. I had a very young baby that I was taking care of, and now I was going to have another one? They would be 13 months apart in age. Crazy.

I ended up having a rough pregnancy with Jace. Started pre-term labor at 28 weeks, and was on constant bed rest. I was miserable all the time. Finally, the doctor scheduled my induction date for September 2, 2004. I would be 39 weeks along at that time, and it should be safe to deliver.

Here's the birthstory that I posted on my Mom's board back in 2004....

We left our house around 7:15 and got to the hospital about 7:45 Thursday morning. We went straight to the admissions department, and, of course, there was an extremely long wait. By the time they got me checked in and up to my room, it was after 8:30. They had me put on a gown and climb into bed. The nurse came in, then decided she'd "be right back." So, Gene and I just sat there and waited. We heard them wheeling another girl to her room, and all of a sudden, we hear, "OH MY GOD! MY WATER BROKE!" Not 10 seconds later, we hear a baby crying. The poor girl didn't even make it to her room! She delivered a healthy baby girl right outside our doorway! They had to cut her pants off real quick to get the baby! Could you even imagine????

Anyway, after all of the nurses recovered from THAT excitement, it was about 10:00, so the nurse finally decided to give ME a little attention! She started fluids right away, then turned on the pitocin around 10:30. I had already been contracting (go figure) so they didn't turn up the pitocin very high. About 11:30, my doctor came in and checked me. He said I was still between 4.5 - 5, so he told me he'd break my water and we'd have a baby by 5 pm! He told me that because I was already about 5cm, I could have my epidural as soon as the contractions got uncomfortable. Not 5 minutes after he left, they became unbearable. So, the nurse called for the epi, and it took him until NOON to get there! Gene wasn't allowed to be in the room while they put in my epi, so they sent him to the waiting room. Once the epi guy got there, he put the epi in and it didn't take!!!!! The contractions were coming one on top of the other, and hurt like heck. He fooled around with it for about half an hour, 45 minutes, and still couldn't get it to take. So, he ripped it out, and put in a new one. After fiddling around with the second one for what seemed like forever, he finally got my legs numb, but my tummy and girly parts weren't even close. As he left the room to get his partner to figure out what was going on, I was crying so hard I couldn't stand it, and the nurse decided to check my cervix. Only, there WAS no cervix - the baby's head was crowning, and he was ready to come! So, she runs over to the phone, gets every one in there (I've never seen people move so fast! LOL!) and we all prayed that the doctor would make it in time! (Luckily, he did!) They grabbed Gene out of the waiting room, and I squeezed his hand so hard that he thought I was going to break it! The baby arrives, and all of a sudden, I hear my doctor say, "Oh my god." That was it - no explanation - nothing.

Then, the baby started to cry, and I could just feel the relief wash over the entire room! He proudly announced that it was a boy, but they needed to get him checked out and then I could hold him. The doctor then showed me the knot in the umbilical cord, and proceeded to tell me that if it had been ANY tighter, or if we had waited even one more day to induce, the baby wouldn't have survived. I cried and cried and cried! He is definitely my miracle baby. But, Jace passes his apgars with 9's both times, and looks just as healthy as a little horse with a BIG ROUND head!

Jace weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces at birth, and seemed so big. We could barely snap the 0-3 month outfit we had brought along. To date, he's still my biggest baby, and probably the reason my hips and rear look the way they do.

Here's a picture of our family back then...

My little family sure has grown since then, wouldn't you say?

Happy Birthday, Jace! I love you so much, and I am so proud of you. You are doing so well in Kindergarten, and I love hearing all the wonderful things your teacher has to say about you. You are such a sweet, amazing boy, and I am so lucky I get to be your Mom. Stay as kind as you are, and keep your life in God's hands, and He'll always take care of you.

Enjoy your special day, sweetie! You deserve to have a fabulous birthday!

Wisk - The Science Behind Stain Fighting

A couple of weeks ago, I introduced you to the new Wisk with Stain Spectrum Technology. At that point, I hadn't gotten to test out the new Wisk formula.

Now, that's all changed. I've gotten to test out the new formula, and I am blown away by the results.

Wisk asked me to hold an experiment, and sent me some items to complete that experiment. I enlisted my son Jace to help me, and he was thrilled! He couldn't wait to don his lab coat and goggles and get to work.

For the experiment, Wisk sent us a protein stained cloth, a bottle of Wisk and a few tools to complete our assignment. Not sure what a protein stain is? In my last post, we talked about the different kinds of stains:

Stains come in lots of types, but they usually fall into 3 major groups:
     * Carbohydrates (milk chocolate)
     * Proteins (grass)
     * Oils (peanut butter)

A few of the other stain groups include...
     * Bio (blood)
     * Bleachable (coffee)
     * Particulate (dirt)
     * Synthetic (ink)

The protein stained cloth we were sent was a grass stain - a stain that I deal with on a daily basis around here. My kids are always coming home with grass stains on their knees, and even their behinds! They are a pain to get off! I can't even tell you how many hours I've spent scrubbing their pants, only to be disappointed when they still didn't come off in the wash. I was really excited to try this experiment and see how well the new Wisk would handle the toughest grass stains.

Take a peek at our experiment:

Direct Link for Feed Readers

I really wish I had let the Wisk stay on the stain just a bit longer before mixing it around, or that we had swished it around more while we were taping. While you can see an obvious difference in the video, after the camera shut off, I put the cloth back in the water and swished it around more. After that, the water turned green - really green - and it removed almost all of the stains from the cloth. You can see the difference here in these pictures:

I've been using the bottle of Wisk since I received it, and I have to tell you, this stuff is fantastic! Where we live, we don't deal with normal dirt or mud stains. We have red clay down here, and it turns clothes orange. I have turned more clothes into "play clothes" because of the nasty orange stains that get left on the kids clothes, but I was in awe of how well it worked on these stains! The kids clothes will last a lot longer now, and I won't be moving so many outfits into the "play clothes" box.

Wisk is available now at major retailers nationwide such as Walmart, Target, and Kroger for the Suggested Retail Price of $5.99 for a 50 fl oz. bottle that cleans 32 loads.
(By the way, in case you haven't guessed, this will be a "not-so-wordless" Wednesday post.)

I ended up in the ER on Sunday with severe cramping. I'm talking pain that had me doubled over in tears. It was nothing like I have ever experienced in pregnancy before. But maybe I should start at the beginning....

We went to church on Sunday morning. I wasn't feeling great, but that's nothing unusual. For some reason, I always feel horrible on Sundays. I think it's Satan trying to keep me from church. Anyway, we got to church, and even arrived early for Sunday School. Before Sunday School starts, we always meet in the Sanctuary, sing a song, recognize birthdays and anniversaries, and then have a short devotional. I started feeling really icky during the congregational song, so I sat down. Then, as we started to sing Happy Birthday (to one of my favorite little girls!), it hit me.... I was gonna be SICK. I flew out of my pew and barely made it to the bathroom. Morning sickness had struck again, and this time it was bad. After I... well, you know, I started having these horrible cramps in my stomach. They were up high, so I assumed the baby was ok, but the pain was so bad that I couldn't stand upright. After another visit with my head in the porcelain throne, I let a friend take my kids to my MIL's house (with my MIL), and then my friend took me to the Emergency room. They put me in this room in the very back of the hospital all by myself. I was in so much pain, and I was scared to death. I couldn't stop crying. About half an hour after I got to the hospital, hubby called to tell me he was on his way home. Thank God. I needed him so badly.

They ran all sorts of tests, took blood, and gave me lots of fluids. I was severely dehydrated upon arrival - probably because I'd brought up everything I'd already drunk that day, and hadn't had the chance to try to get anything else down. They were able to find the heartbeat, and it sounded beautiful. 174 beats per minute. The doctor predicted a girl, but I'm not betting on that - Zander always had a super high heartbeat, and he's definitely a boy.

Anyway, hubby arrived about an hour and a half later, and sat with me the rest of the time. We prayed together, and we left everything in God's hands. A short while later, they informed me that I had a severe bacterial infection and was dehydrated. They sent me home with an antibiotic and an anti-nausea medicine. I was told to follow up with my doctor the next day.

On Monday, the doctor squeezed me in for an appointment. He did a quick check of my cervix (still long and closed) and a quick ultrasound of the baby. Everything looked just fine. Praise God. He said that the fact that I was throwing up so violently on Sunday was probably why I was cramping, but it may also have been heartburn. (Apparently sometimes heartburn can feel more like cramps than burning. Go figure.) He did another test, and guess what? No bacterial infection, so I didn't even need the Rx for the antibiotic. He did recommend that I get the anti-nausea medicine filled in case I have another bout like I did on Sunday, and he also prescribed a prescription heartburn medicine to be taken only if I need it.

I'm just glad that everything turned out ok. It was really, really scary, but it helped to see the baby and know that he/she is ok.

Sorry for the not-so-wordless Wednesday. It's been quite a week around here already!
In fact, I didn't even really know it had a name until a few months ago when I was surfing a message board and came across a very heated (and not so very friendly!) debate about the topic. I have honestly been afraid to post this review of the Gripsterz Stay Along - Child Leash Alternative just because of what some of the reactions may be. Not sure my pregnant hormones can take criticism. But, the sponsor sent me the product, and it's my responsibility to make sure the review goes live with my honest opinions.

I guess you would say that I am one who "leashes" my children. When my boys were younger, I bought those cute little backpacks shaped like animals that had the long tail that I could hold onto and keep them at a safe, comfortable distance while we were out and about. I did this because at the time, I had 4 children, 3 under the age of 4, and only 2 hands. I had already had a scare with Zander wandering off in a store by this point, and that was the scariest moment of my life. To look down and see your child gone? Horrifying. The backpacks allowed me to know exactly where my child was at all times, quickly and easily. Maybe someone who has never been in the position of not being able to find their child wouldn't understand. Shouldn't parents do anything to keep their child safe? Is putting a harness on them really so bad? I just didn't see it that way.

Before I get to my review of the Gripsterz Stay Along, here is some must know information about it from the "My Precious Kid" website:

CHILD SAFETY - The Gripsterz Stay Along is a child leash or harness alternative that keeps Mom and kids together while shopping or going to the library, at the same time freeing up Mom's hands. It can be attached to a purse, a stroller, a shopping cart, a belt hoop, a "Mommy Handle" (included), and various lengths of attachments to allow you to decide how much room your child can have to explore, while helping both child and adult feel secure. Gripsterz is created by a mother of eight — six biological children and adopted twins from Guatemala — ages 1 to 8. The children are home-schooled.

CHILD LEASH ALTERNATIVE - You can attach multiple Gripsterz products together for multiple children. The book included in the package has the adorable monkey character act as a pal and a guide for your child as different environments are described and your child learns what they might expect to encounter and what may be expected of them. This child leash alternative helps decrease the anxiety and surprises of excursions or outings for parents and children, and helps turn a potentially stressful trip into a fun and enjoyable adventure.

GRIPSTERZ FEATURES:
Gripsterz kit includes:

one irresistible Grippy monkey ring with attaching clip, two vine straps (1 ft & 2 ft) with an attaching clip,an adult handle, a convenient storage bag and a Grippy book for kids.

The Grippy adventure book enhances the child’s natural attachment tendencies to their new friend Grippy and encourages enjoyable adventure experiences.

Interchangeable pieces allow for a variety of adventure needs.

Easy to use

Can be clipped to a stroller, belt hoop, shopping cart, luggage, purse, and many other portable devices.

Great for crossing streets and parking lots, visiting museums, exploring parks, attending festivals, and traveling.

Patent Pending

Made of nontoxic materials

WARNING! Gripsterz is not a toy. Never leave child unattended. Use only with adult supervision. Never use to physically restrain child.

My Review of Gripsterz Stay Along - Child Leash Alternative
In all honesty, this product looks more like a leash than the backpacks I used to use when my boys were smaller. In fact, after we first received the product, I had to put it up where the kids couldn't find it, because they all wanted to take turns "walking" Parker around the house. I hated it. I would remind them that Parker is not a dog, and that we don't "walk" people. So, obviously now I see where the debate comes from. While I am absolutely ok with anything that will keep my children safe, I am not ok with my child being treated like an animal. I get it now, I really do.

But, all of that being said, I do understand the idea behind this product and what the inventor was trying to do. The monkey is adorable. Parker loves holding onto the monkey, and I don't have to worry about how far he can wander away when he's wearing it. It keeps him close, and it keeps him safe. That feature is absolutely priceless. And, had my children not been so adamant about "walking" Parker, I would probably use it all the time. It is a fantastic idea and a really cute product that Parker loves. I see absolutely nothing wrong with it, except for the way my kids treated the product. I would definitely recommend the product to anyone who is looking for a fun, cute child leash alternative for their little one. It's very easy to use, it's reasonably priced at just $14.99, and it gives Mom peace of mind while out and about with her child(ren). There's nothing more important than that.

I also want to tell you that before this post went live, I had the opportunity to speak with the creator if the Gripsterz. She is an absolutely fantastic lady, and handled my thoughts and opinions with nothing but grace and kindness. She did also show me several pictures of the Gripsterz used in a different way: instead of using the long "leash," she used the short one and attached the handle to a shopping cart or a stroller. This feature is ingenious, and now, I plan to use the Gripsterz this way every time we're out. It doesn't look "leash-y" at all, and it will keep Lucy close to the cart so that I don't have to worry about her wandering off. Plus, with the shorter handle, it's perfect for throwing in my purse and having it with me at all times. Thank you, Robyn, for showing me this feature and for taking the time to contact me. I know you used your heart to create this product, and it really shows.

I would also recommend that you check out the "My Precious Kid" website. They have dozens of child safety products and lots of great baby gear. I love visiting their site and seeing what new products they have. I've found several "must have" items for my baby list this time around.

Disclaimer: I was contacted on behalf of My Precious Kid. I was sent the necessary products to write this review. I was in no other way compensated for this post, and all opinions stated above are 100% my own.

Dinosaur Train Under the Sea Winner Announced

Man, I am a day late and a dollar short on everything around here, aren't I. September is the start of craziness around here. I've got Jace's birthday this week, our anniversary the week after that, and Lucy's birthday the week after that. Then, it's almost time for Parker's birthday, then Halloween, then Thanksgiving, then Christmas. AAAAAAGGGGGHHHH. It's almost too much to take. Of course, September usually brings fall weather, so I am definitely looking forward to a break from all this heat. Plus, I'll hit my second trimester in September, so maybe I can get a little bit of energy back. That would be a bonus.

Enough about me. I know you all are busy too, so let's get to the good stuff. If you are hosting a giveaway, or if you found a giveaway somewhere on the net that you just have to share, I'd love to have you share your links with us here on our weekly giveaway linky so that we can all stop by and enter.

I really don't care how you post your links. Some like to include their blog name, some just want to leave the prize and the ending date. Post it whatever way you feel like, but make sure that the prize listing and the date the giveaway ends is listed.

Please make sure you post a link directly to your giveaway - not just to your main blog page.

Here's just one example on how to post links:
Name: Pillsbury Sweet Moments Chocolate Spa Kit (9/8)
Link: http://www.5vinezmonkeys.com/2010/08/pillsbury-sweet-moments-review-giveaway.html
In fact, their products are the only products I will purchase for my kids. Their no-tear formula and gentle cleaning power are simply the best. They're a name I trust, and have trusted in over 13 years of parenting.

Now, Johnson's is introducing a new line of products called Johnson's Natural. All of the products in this line contain 98% of naturally derived ingredients from sources like Coconut, Palm, and Sugarcane. The No More Tears® Formula makes these products as gentle to the eyes as pure water, and their Allerfree™ fragrance leaves baby's skin and hair smelling clean and fresh without worry of a harmful reaction.

The best part about these products is that they've expanded the baby line and they are also making products for kids. Truth be told, I still use Johnson's baby products on my 4 youngest children, but I love that now there are products made just for the kids and their needs.

Mom Central and Johnson's recently sent me a box of samples of the new Johnson's Natural product line. There are several things that I love about the new Johnson's Natural products, aside from what I've already mentioned.I think it would be easiest if I went through each product I received individually.

Johnson’s Natural Baby Lotion - Parker (my youngest) and Zander (my 7 year old) both have very sensitive skin, and require having lotion put on their arms and legs after bath time. This lotion is perfect for doing just that. It's gentle but effective, and it smells great. It leaves their skin silky soft. I love it!

Johnson’s Natural HEAD-TO-TOE Foaming Baby Wash - This is my favorite product for Parker. While Parker loves the bath, he hates taking time away from play to get clean. With this all-in-one product, I can quickly (yet thoroughly) get him cleaned and back to playing. It smells great, and I love that it still has the No More Tears® Formula.

Johnson’s Natural Baby Shampoo - I use this on my 7 and almost 6 year olds. They still need that gentle touch that only Johnson's can provide with the No More Tears Formula®, but they also need something that's going to get their hair clean. This does the job perfectly.

Johnson’s Natural Kids 3-in-1 Shampoo Conditioner & Body Wash - Lucy has this long, gorgeous curly hair that is a nightmare to wash. It tangles so badly, and I hate seeing the tears roll down her face when I comb her hair after a bath. It's heartbreaking. I wasn't sure how this 3-in-1 product would work in her hair, but now I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this product for Lucy. The conditioner adds just the right touch, and I've noticed a significant reduction in the tangles in her hair. (Even though it's not necessarily a tangle-free product, it really has made a difference.) It smells great, and since it's a 3-in-1, I can quickly wash her, rinse her, and get her back to playing in the bubbles.

Johnson’s Natural Kids 2-in-1 Hand & Face Foaming Wash - This is great for sitting on the bathroom counter and having the kids wash their hands and faces before dinner. They love that they can do it themselves, and it's gentle enough to splash on their faces, but gets them clean. Fantastic product over all.

Johnson's Natural products will now be regular additions to our bath time routine, and I know what I've giving as gifts for all the dozens of baby showers I'll be attending over the next few months. I love that they're from a name I can trust, and that each product comes with the Johnson's No More Tears® Formula.

If you're looking for the perfect baby shower gift, or simply want the best for your baby (or kids!), I would highly recommend New Johnson's Natural Products.
Disclaimer: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Johnson’s Natural and received the products necessary to facilitate my review. In addition, I received a gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Get Ready for Kindergarten with a Dinosaur Train Giveaway (9/12)

"Back to School" is on the minds of most parents right now. It's soft, marshmallow-like texture never dries out. You can use it time and time again, and the fun never ends! Plus, since it's hypo-allergenic and wheat-free, there's no worries about side effects from playing with it. It's perfect for kids of any age, even though the recommended ages are from 2 - 4. And clean up? It's super easy! You can get Moon Dough in your choice of 8 different colors: Yellow, Red, Pink, Orange, White, Blue, Green, and Purple. Plus, there are a number of fantastic Moon Dough play sets to choose from to make your Moon Dough play even more fun: Moon Dough Barnyard, Moon Dough Pizza Shop, Moon Dough Burger Shop, and the Magic Molding Doghouse. And just in case you need more Moon Dough to go with your play sets, Moon Dough Refill Packs are also available.

Team Mom and Moon Dough recently gave us the opportunity to test out the new Moon Dough Barnyard play set. When I first found out about the review opportunity, I couldn't wait. Every time we saw the commercial for the Barnyard play set, my kids would go crazy. They all wanted to get their hands on it and try it. The day that it arrived in the mail, they could hardly contain themselves. Everyone wanted to try it first. It didn't matter that the play set was recommended for ages 2 - 4, even my 5 and 7 year olds wanted to give it a go at it.

The Barnyard was really easy to snap together, and it came with 3 colors of Moon Dough: Blue, White, and Yellow. I loved how easy it was to use. Even Parker could turn the crank and create animals all by himself. Zander made tons of little fences and put up a "white picket fence" all the way around the barnyard. Jace liked making hay bales and "feeding" the animals that Lucy and Parker would crank out. It's been about a week since we received the Barnyard Playset, and every day they ask me if they can play with it.

I will tell you that at the end of playtime, there was a huge mess all over my kitchen table. I found Moon Dough in every crack and crevice within 5 feet of the table. But, clean up was really easy. In fact, I was surprised at how easy it was to clean up. I love the texture of the Moon Dough, and so did the kids. It's so soft and fun to play with. And the best part really is that it never dries out. No more wasted dough!

My kids have had a ball with the Barnyard Play set, and Lucy's already asking for more play sets. Her birthday is just around the corner, so I may just need to surprise her!

If you're looking for a fun toy that's certain to entertain your kids, I'd highly recommend the Moon Dough Play Sets! You can find them at Toys "R" Us, Walmart, Target, Kmart, A.C. Moore, Michaels, eToys, and on Amazon.com.
In fact, I'm at 10 weeks and 5 days. I'm rapidly approaching the end of my first trimester and things are moving right along.

BUT. I am exhausted. All the time. This is my sixth time doing this, and I don't ever remember feeling so run down and exhausted all day every day. And it's not like it's been forever since I've been pregnant, either. Parker hasn't even turned 2 yet, and while it wasn't "just yesterday" that I was pregnant last, it certainly hasn't been years and years.

Those of you who have been there, done that, is this normal first trimester exhaustion? I am getting older, but could that have anything to do with it? Three of the 5 kids are in school and the 2 at home are so easy. My stress level is good, and even my blood pressure has been decent. (Although the top number is rarely below 135 and usually in the 140s. Bottom number is always in the low 120s.)

I don't know. I'm just feeling completely wiped out. I really don't remember feeling like this with any of my other kids, and it's really taking it's toll. I try to get a good night's sleep, but getting up to pee 4 times doesn't help that. Then, I'm up early to get the kids on the bus. By 2:00 in the afternoon, I'm barely able to keep my eyes open.

I'd love to hear if any of you have had this kind of exhaustion during your first trimester. My next doctor's appointment isn't until I'm more than 12 weeks, so that's pushing things right to the end of the first trimester. Hopefully by then, I'll be feeling better. And if you've got any tips or tricks to getting a burst of energy when I need it, I'd love to hear it! In fact, they're the only brand of crayons, markers, and colored pencils that I'll buy. The quality of their products far exceeds that of any other brand on the market. (In my opinion, of course.)

Now, Crayola is improving their products and "Going Green." Now, back to school for your kids can be even more green, and it won't cost you any extra green! That's right! Even though Crayola is making changes to their products, you won't see an increase in their price. That's fantastic news!

MyBlogSpark and Crayola recently sent me some of their products to test out with my kids. Before I get to my review of these products, let me tell you a little bit about what Crayola is doing to improve their products.

Crayola Markers - Crayola markers are now made from recycled bottle caps. The barrels of the markers will now be black instead of white, which allows for more recycled plastic to be used and gives a "second life" to more than 1 million pounds of plastic bottle caps. Just think about all the hundreds of tons of plastic this will keep out of landfills each year! The markers will be available in 10-ct. Broadline Classic Colors, 10-ct. Broadline Assorted Colors, 10-ct. Fineline Classic Colors, 8-ct. Washable Broadline and 8-ct. Washable Fineline.

Crayola Colored Pencils - Since 1987, all Crayola colored pencils have been made from reforested wood instead of wood from a tropical rainforest or endangered species. Every time a tree is used to create the Crayola colored pencils, a new tree will be planted. This is such a great way for Crayola to "give back" to the environment. You can get Crayola Colored Pencils in 12, 24, 36, and 50 count boxes, and those packages will be among the first to carry the "Eco-Evolution" call-out on their packaging.

Crayola Green 24-Count Crayons - Ahhh, yes. The 24 pack of Crayola Crayons. The one item I can guarantee will be on our school supply list every year. Now, these crayons will be made with the power of the sun. They'll use more than 26, 200 solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity, which will in turn generate the energy required to make 1 billion of the 3 billion crayons Crayola makes each year. That's equal to 60 million 24-ct. boxes!

If you've got a minute, check out this video to get a better understanding of how Crayola is committed to helping the environment through renewable solar energy.

I recently got to test out the new "greener" Crayola products mentioned above, and I am happy to report that I absolutely *love* them. In fact, I don't see much of a difference from the Crayola products that I've used and loved for years.

I love the look of the new black-barrel markers, and how much recycled plastic is now being used through this one change. The colored pencils are fantastic, and I love that they already come sharpened. (It's the little things that make me happy!) And the crayons are the same fabulous crayons we've always used, but now they're even "cooler" because they're made with the power of the sun.

Thank you, Crayola, for taking such initiative to improve your products and make our world a little greener. I will continue to use and recommend your products to everyone I know!

I'm either running here or there, up to my eye balls in laundry, or just trying to go to the bathroom without company. Doesn't that just sound like heaven? My mouth is watering just typing this post!

You can find the new Pillsbury Sweet Moments in the refrigerated baked goods section of your local grocery store, and they are perfect for indulging anytime - day or night. The Bite-Size Brownies come in two varieties: rich caramel or fudge coating, and come ready to eat. That's fabulous when your "quiet moment" only lasts a minute or two! Plus, the brownies are only 60 calories each, and they will definitely satisfy even the pickiest sweet tooth.

The Sweet Moments Molten Lava Brownie comes in a single-serve bow and they are also available in rich caramel and fudge varieties. The best part? They take just 15 seconds in the microwave! You're literally just seconds away from a warm, tasty treat that you can enjoy any time.

MyBlogSpark recently sent me the most amazing "Sweet Moments" prize pack, and I have to tell you that this is one of my favorite "sparks" thus far. The prize pack included a VIP coupon for the new Pillsbury Sweet Moments and a chocolate spa kit. The spa kit included a loofah, mint chocolate foot scrub, milk chocolate body lotion, cocoa chocolate shower gel, and cocoa chocolate bath salts. It all smells so good that I could have eaten it! Oh my gosh! Being pregnant, all I crave this time around is chocolate, and this really was an amazing prize pack to get to test out.

Included in the prize pack was a coupon to test out the new Pillsbury Sweet Moments. I love molten lava brownies, and caramel anything is fabulous, so that was what I just had to put to the test. I *love* that it took 15 seconds to make. I didn't have to wait all day, and I didn't have to slave all day over the stove, either. The Molten Lava Brownies were simply divine. They are just the right size, and they're the perfect pick-me-up no matter what kind of day you're having. Having a great day? They're perfect for celebrating. Feel like nothing is going right? They'll be there to comfort you. And the great thing about the prize pack? When you've had a bad week and all you want to do is eat tons and tons of chocolate... you can just pop open the bottle of milk chocolate body lotion and lather it on. Chocolate cravings appeased.

I'm talking makeup-rolls-off-your-face-as-soon-as-you-put-it-on-hot. It's disgusting. BUT, it hasn't stopped my kids from playing outside, and it certainly hasn't stopped the "fall" sports at school.

As a mom, it's important to me to keep my kids hydrated while they're out playing hard. Heat-induced illnesses can hit quickly, and sometimes water alone just isn't enough to get them hydrated fast enough and keep them that way. Yes, water is vital to everyone. But it just can't hydrate and refuel like Gatorade can. Gatorade gives just the right amount of fluids, electrolytes and carbohydrates to quickly put back what kids lose when they sweat. Plus, it provides energy they need to keep them going.

That's why I keep a large supply of Gatorade in my fridge at all times. It's a brand I've trusted for years. I used it myself during high school basketball games, and now my kids will use it during their many sports adventures both now and in the years to come.

Here are some tips to keep your young athletes safe this summer:

What you wear makes a difference: Wear light clothing, change sweat-soaked clothing as soon as possible, avoid wearing excess clothing, and remove helmets when not playing.

Be sure coaches schedule and enforce drink breaks and rest periods during practice and physical activity.

Be prepared at practices and games by having an ice-filled tub ready for immersing a player in case of an emergency. Know the exact location and any specific directions required by the EMS responders. Always cool the athlete before trying to transport them.

Here are some warning signs of Heat-Induced Illnesses:

Headache

Nausea

Vomiting

Fainting

Weakness

Flushed Skin

Lightheadedness

Poor Concentration

Loss of Muscle Coordination

Fatigue

Recently, Mom Central sent me several bottles of Gatorade to test out with my kids. Since we've already been using Gatorade for quite some time, these added to our collection already in the fridge. I love Gatorade, and so do my kids. I like knowing that it's supplying the extra boost my kids need to stay hydrated while they're out playing hard. I will continue to purchase Gatorade for all of my kids, and would gladly encourage any mom of young athletes (or just kids who like to play hard!) to do the same.

Want to know how you can help Gatorade Beat the Heat?
Head to www.nfl.com/trainingcamp and download a free Gatorade Heat Safety Kit. For every unique download, Gatorade will donate $1 to "Beat the Heat" charities - and they'll donate up to $20,000! It's a quick, easy way to make a difference, and you might just learn something while you're at it! The Beat the Heat Safety Kit is an excellent resource for any parent to have on hand.

Disclaimer: I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Gatorade’s “Beat the Heat” campaign and received Gatorade samples to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Flirty Aprons Giveaway Winner Announced

It's time to pick the winner of the Flirty Aprons Giveaway!
I sincerely apologize! This week has been insane. My husband worked 14 days straight and then had 6 days off in a row. Ey yi yi! Then, during his vacation, his dad came into town from Ohio. By Friday, I was completely wiped out!

But, a new week is here, and it's a chance to start fresh. And what better way to start than with a whole bunch of really great giveaways you can enter?

If you are hosting a giveaway, or if you found a giveaway somewhere on the net that you just have to share, I'd love to have you share your links with us here on our weekly giveaway linky so that we can all stop by and enter.

I really don't care how you post your links. Some like to include their blog name, some just want to leave the prize and the ending date. Post it whatever way you feel like, but make sure that the prize listing and the date the giveaway ends is listed.

Please make sure you post a link directly to your giveaway - not just to your main blog page.

Here's just one example on how to post links:
Name: Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten (Book - 8/25)
Link: http://www.5vinezmonkeys.com/2010/08/is-your-buffalo-ready-for-kindergarten.html
Shows up like this: Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten (Book - 8/25)
Now it's your turn! Leave your links here:

As a baby photographer, I was excited to learn about BabyPhotographers.com, a fantastic resource for Moms and Dads looking to find the perfect photographer in their area. It allows you to compare and contrast baby photographers so that you can find the perfect artist to fit your style, budget, and goal.

It's so quick and easy to locate photographers, too. The profile pages allow you to browse their bios, services, photo galleries, videos, and gives you links to all of their contact information. No searching for hours on the site because you can't find the information you need. It's all right there, waiting for you to find.

Along with the information about the photographers, there are also articles to inform and educate moms on topics like "How to Have the Perfect Baby Photography Section" and"Photographers Top Secret Tips to Make Every Photo Session Successful." These are articles that every photographer wants their clients to read!

Also, now through September 30th, BabyPhotographers.com is having a *huge* contest. You could win $2,000 worth of baby photography, just by telling BabyPhotographers.com how you make your baby laugh. That's it! You can find full contest rules, details, and how to enter by clicking here: BabyPhotographers.com Smile Baby Contest

Head to BabyPhotographers.com and start checking out everything they have to offer. Also, be sure to follow BabyPhotographers.com on twitter and fan them on facebook. This is one resource you aren't going to want to let slip through your fingers!

Also, if you are a photographer, consider signing up with BabyPhotographers.com. You may end up opening doors to many wonderful new clients.

Disclaimer: I am participating in a blog tour with Team Mom on behalf of BabyPhotographers.com. We have 3 bedrooms, no basement, and 3 little closets to contain the clothes of 7 (soon to be 8!) people. We have absolutely no storage in our little house at all.

That means I have to do everything possible to conserve as much space as I can. So, when the Parent Reviewers gave me the opportunity to sign up for their Wonder Hanger blog tour, I couldn't wait to get my entry in. I was so excited when they sent me an email saying that I had been selected for the blog tour. Maybe, just maybe, Wonder Hanger could help get my closet under control.

I was sent a pack of 8 Wonder Hangers to try out and give my thoughts. I had a hard time deciding which closet they would be best suited for. Should I use them to save space in the girl's closet? Maybe I should use them to get Parker's clothes to actually fit in the closet with the other boys' clothes. Or maybe I should use them to get my clothes under control and finally give my husband a little bit of room in our little closet.

I went with option number 3. For 3 years now, I have taken up way too much room in our closet. My husband's clothes have all been pushed to one side, and he's got about a foot of space to fit everything he needs. (What can I say? I used to have a walk in closet that went on for miles. Man, I miss that closet!)

The Wonder Hanger was so easy to use! They were a little difficult for me to snap together, since they come disassembled, but my husband was quickly and easily able to snap them together. (Apparently I'm a weakling, because he had no trouble at all getting them together.) We started hanging clothes on them right away. Within minutes, I could see a major difference in my closet.

Because we got a pack of 8 Wonder Hangers, I was able to get my clothes sorted: Tops, shirts, pants. Everything had it's place. And I *love* the fact that I can use any kind of hanger with the Wonder Hanger. I didn't have to run out and buy 100 new hangers that were all the same size and shape. These worked great with everything I had on hand. I was even able to use one of the Wonder Hangers to organize my purses in my closet. By the time we were done, I couldn't believe how much space I had been taking up all those years!

My closet is finally under control, and my husband now has room in our closet to hang all of his stuff. It's wonderful!

I am super impressed with the Wonder Hanger and will definitely be buying some more to get all the other closets in the house under control. My kids will finally be able to find what they need in their closets without pulling everything off the hangers and throwing it on the floor.

Thank you, Wonder Hanger. You've saved the day around here!

To purchase Wonder Hanger for yourself, you can find them at major retail chains like Target, Walmart, Bed Bath & Beyond, and CVS. And you can also purchase them online at www.wonderhanger.com. They retail for just $9.99 (and that gives you 8 Wonder Hangers per package - enough for up to 40 garments!) and are a fabulous closet organization idea for any home.

Disclaimer: I am participating in a blog tour through Parent Reviewers on behalf of Wonder Hanger. I can't believe how much this school seems to offer!

Queen Ethelburga's is a boys school and girls school for students ages 3 to 20 years. They are located at the Thorpe Underwood Estate in York, England. They are the UK's most academically successful independent Private Preparatory and Boarding School.

The day school program at this boys school and girls school offers the lowest rates and full bus service for families living in the area.

This school also accepts International students. Their boarding facilities at the school are modern with plasma TVs, DVD players (on timers), a mini-kitchen with a refrigerator, telephones, music centers, air-conditioning, and in-room showers and toilets.

Queen Ethelburga's boys school and girls school boasts that 98% of their College Year 13 students go onto the best Universities.

While I have never considered a boys school or girls school, or a boarding school for my children, it sounds like Queen Ethelburga's School offers lots of fantastic options for those living in the UK.

If you've been thinking about boarding schools, or if you live in the UK and want to put your child in a school that will advance their education, please take some time to check out Queen Ethelburga's School and learn more today.

Disclaimer: I was contacted on behalf of Queen Ethelburga's School and asked to post a review of their website. I was paid a small fee in return for doing so. Much of the information came from their website, but the opinions expressed in this post about the website and the school are completely my own.

mOmma Makes Mealtime Fun! (Review & Photo Contest Opportunity)

I love items for kids that are stylish and fun, but more importantly, I love items that can take something like mealtime and make it an opportunity to learn and develop properly.

Recently, Team Mom introduced me to mOmma, an innovative collection of cups, plates, and utensils that are not only unique and stylish, but also functional... and fun! Their unique shape allows cups, forks, and spoons to rock back and forth. Not only does this keep kids entertained during meal time, but it also helps keep spills at bay. Another great feature? The collection comes in two color choices: brilliant orange or vibrant green, and all of their items are PBA and phthalate-free and completely dishwasher safe.

I had the opportunity to test out the mOmma Non-Spill Cup, the mOmma Cup with a Straw, a mOmma Warming Plate, Spoon, and Fork, and the mOmma Wash.

We've used these items quite often since receiving them, and I can't get over how much Parker loves them, or how much they've encouraged him to feed himself. My absolute favorite item is the mOmma Cup with the Straw. We've been trying to get out of the sippy cup stage, so this has been perfect! I love that it doesn't spill, and Parker loves that he can rock it back and forth. He laughs so hard every time he does it! It's hysterical.

I also love the Developmental Meal Set that included the warming plate, the spoon, and the fork. The spoon and fork have handles that are completely round. I thought that this would discourage Parker from using them, because they're pretty big for his tiny hands, but I was wrong! He loves them, and he won't put them down. He's really gotten good at scooping up his food and feeding himself. It's fabulous! The warming plate is fabulous, too, because it's got separate compartments for main and side dishes. And, the bottom is textured just right that Parker can't scoot it off the table and throw it on the floor when he's done with it. (I love that!)

The Non-Spill Cup is really, really cute, and I'm definitely holding onto it for when the new baby we're expecting is ready for sippy cups. The only issue I had with it was the fact that the lid is so hard to get on straight. It doesn't spill if it's not on straight, but Parker had a very hard time holding it. I'm wondering if there's a trick to getting it on right? If you know, would you let me know?

The mOmma Wash is awesome. It's the perfect size and shape to quickly and easily clean the mOmma items, and it's just as cute as can be. I smile every time I see it sitting on my kitchen counter. Parker loves how soft the bristles are, and in fact, he loved it so much, that he slept with it the first night we took it out of the box. Silly boy.

Overall, I am quite impressed with the entire mOmma line, and will definitely be adding more items to our collection before the new baby arrives.
I think of sunshine, baseball games, and apple pie. If you've got those 3 things, you're set for summer, right?

We are officially in the "dog-days" of summer. We've rarely had a day under 100* here, which is rare for this part of the mountains. You walk outside and you just melt.

Banquet has come up with a great new idea for beating the summer heat - individual microwavable fruit pies. At just around $1.00 per pie, they make the perfect summertime treat. (I love mine served piping hot with a scoop of frozen yogurt on the side! Mmmmm.) They'd also make the perfect dessert if you'll be having a cookout this Labor Day weekend. Then, no one can complain that Aunt Mary got a bigger slice of pie this year, because they're all the same size!

The Banquet Fruit Pies are available in 3 flavors: Apple, Peach, and Cherry Berry. They are super easy to make, just pop them in the microwave, and in 3 or 4 minutes, you've got a piping hot pie that smells (and tastes!) like you spent all day slaving over it.

Thanks to Mom Central and Banquet, I had the opportunity to test out the new Banquet Fruit Pies. They sent me 4 coupons so that we could try all the new flavors. Hubby wanted the peach pie. The kids all wanted apple, and I couldn't wait to try out the cherry berry flavor.

I love how easy they were to make. Just a few minutes in the microwave. That's it! Then, they come out, and the smell is simply divine. My entire house smelled like fruit pies by the time we were done making each one of them. But, because they're cooked in the microwave, it didn't heat my entire house like the oven does. That's fabulous when it's already 100* outside and you don't want to turn on the oven. And the taste? They really do taste like they were baked in the oven. The fruit was sweet and still juicy, and the crust was baked to a golden perfection. Such a perfect little treat and it's available at a great price, and it's so easy to make. I love the convenience, and I love the taste even more. Plus, each pie contains 35% of your recommended amount of grains and 10% of your recommended fruit servings. They're a great alternative to high calorie, high fat sweets that can quickly ruin your diet.

I'm quite impressed with the new Banquet Fruit Pies, and since this baby I'm carrying seems to want fruit all the time, these are a fun way to satisfy those cravings. Plus, they're on sale at our local grocery store right now, so I've stocked up!

I also wanted to let you know that from August 26th - 28th, (right before the Labor Day holiday), 650 select Wal-Mart stores nationwide will be offering in-store demonstrations with samples of the new Banquet Fruit Pies topped with Reddi-Wip. I don't have a list of the participating stores available, but you can easily check with the store manager to find out if your local store will be hosting a demonstration.

Treat yourself right. Head on out and grab one of the new Banquet Fruit Pies for dessert tonight.

Disclaimer: I wrote this review while participating in a blog campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Banquet and received free coupons to facilitate my candid review. Mom Central also sent me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.

Weekly Giveaway Linky: August 15th - 21st

I apologize for the lack of posting yesterday. This pregnancy is kicking my butt! I spent all morning at our MOPS Kickoff - which was a blast! - and the rest of the afternoon on my MIL's couch napping. Needless to say, not much of anything got done yesterday!

Name: 5 Vinez Monkeys - Flirty Apron Giveaway - 8/21
Link: http://www.5vinezmonkeys.com/2010/07/flirty-aprons-review-giveaway-821.html
Shows up like this: 5 Vinez Monkeys - Flirty Apron Giveaway - 8/21
Now it's your turn! We have our DVR set to record all of the new episodes so that no one misses a single episode. My kids have learned more about dinosaurs and other creatures because of this show than I ever did as a kid. It's educational, but it's also so much fun to watch! Only The Jim Henson Company can take big, scary dinosaurs and make them lovable creatures that my kids have come to love.

On Friday, August 20th, Dinosaur Train Under the Sea will premier on PBS Kids as a new one-hour television special. Then, on August 24th, PBS Kids and Paramount will release the Dinosaurs Under the Sea DVD. The DVD will include 8 exciting adventures, interactive games, coloring pages, a dinosaur reference guide, and information for parents.

My kids and I had the opportunity to watch the television special, thanks to Three Sixty Marketing and Communications and The Jim Henson Company. Before I get to our review of the special, here's a sneak peek for you. (It's the commercial that has been airing on PBS Kids recently.)

My kids absolutely loved the 1 hour Dinosaur Train Under the Sea television special. When I put in the DVD, it automatically started playing. Lucy could barely contain her excitement, shouting "It's a new Dinosaur Train! It's a new Dinosaur Train!" Then, she just had to know, "Mom? Who sent you this movie? Can we keep it?" For the next hour, she didn't move, except to tell me the names of all the new friends that the dinosaurs made, and how cool it was that they could go under the water. "Mom, can we find a tunnel like that and go in a train under water?" While we may not be able to travel in a train under water and go back in time to meet lots of amazing dinosaurs, I love that she can pop the DVD in and escape into her imagination at any time.

Jace, my kindergartner, also loved the episode. His favorite part was where the Pteranodon family meets Carla Cretoxyrhina, a shark that ends up being a whole lot nicer than one might think!

Other new underwater friends that the family meets include Elmer Elasmosaurus, The Amazing Michelinoceras Brothers, and Paulie Pliosaurus - the T. Rex of the ocean!

Overall, the tv special was fantastic, and everything I have come to expect from Dinosaur Train. The kids loved it, I loved it, and we all learned so much! Be sure to check your local listings and tune into watch the Dinosaur Train Under the Sea 1 hour special on August 20th.

To celebrate the Dinosaur Train Under the Sea television special and DVD release, I get to give away one copy of the new Dinosaur Train Under the Sea DVD to one lucky reader!

Disclaimer: I was contacted by a member of Three.Sixty Marketing & Communication on behalf of the Henson Company. I was sent a press DVD to preview the new episode in my home. The DVD in no way influenced my opinion, and was merely used to get our honest review. I was in no other way compensated for this post. The sponsor is also fulfilling the winner's prize as stated above.

Space Bag Clean That Closet Challenge!

I have to admit, my closets are atrocious. Especially my linen closet in my hallway. Somehow, it has become the catch-all. If you're lucky enough to get the door closed, you must remind yourself that you don't want to be the one to open it. Why? Because if you open it, chances are good that you'll quickly be buried under a pile of blankets, towels, nursing pillows, and everything else that has been stuffed in there. I desperately need the motivation to get that closet organized and prevent another landslide from taking place in my tiny hallway.

Space Bag has heard my cries and is offering up the ultimate motivation for getting anyone's closet in order with their Clean That Closet Challenge through their online community, Space Savers. The winnings are BIG - the first 100 applicants win Space Bag products, and one grand-prize winner will receive a private consultation with a professional organizer, a $1,000 gift-card to Bed, Bath, & Beyond, and enouch Space Bag products to organize their entire home!

Entering is easy. All you need to do is upload a photo or video of your messiest closet and write an essay on why you need the closet makeover. Head to www.spacesaverscommunity.com to learn more and enter the contest.

The contest ends on August 15th, 2010 at 11:59pm, so hurry and get your entries in. (Click here for full contest rules: Clean That Closet Challenge Official Rules)

I'll be spending the next couple of days getting my linen closet organized with some products that Space Bag sent me to review, and I'll be posting that review (along with before and after pictures) early next week. I am so looking forward to getting this closet under control... and then starting on the next one!

Stay tuned for my full review.... but for now.... snap a picture or take a video and enter the Clean That Closet Challenge for yourself!

Disclosure: I was in no way compensated for this post. I was contacted by Space Bag and asked to tell my readers about the contest. I was sent Space Bag product to facilitate my candid review of their products. That review will go live next week and full disclosure will be issued in that post as well.
