The much-awaited Park Bo Gum Fan Meet (FM) in Manila on June 22, 2019 at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena went off without a glitch. The supposedly simple and short FM turned out to be probably one of the best surprises in the life of Bogummy’s fans and admirers.

Why?

Because the second part of PBG's FM turned out to be a well-scripted, well-directed, and well-choreographed, full-blown Park Bo Gum concert. It was one fun party!

The Long Wait is Over

Ticket-holders to PBG’s FM started lining up outside MOA Arena at 3:00 PM as the venue was to open a 4:00 PM. In queue were fans of varying status, ages, creeds and nationalities. It was easy enough to spot fans from Japan and China, Hong Kong or Taiwan. But spotting fans from Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia was not as easy.

There were groups of PBG fans clad in matching shirts. There were mothers with their teen kids in tow, as well as grown-up children with their elderly mothers in tow. If there were any medical emergencies during the FM, then the numerous medical doctors among the audience would have taken action.

The Fan Meet Begins!

Standing in line, with sweat steaming down one’s forehead, neck and back, the more than 18 thousand fans of Park Bo Gum were all excited to meet the culmination of the 2-month wait for Park Bo Gum’s Asia Tour in Manila Fan Meet.

The event venue steadily filled up with people. By 5:30 P.M., the arena was only half-way filled and I sat wondering if Bogummy’s FM was a failure due to its postponement. However, by 6:00 P.M, the arena, saved for the upper bleachers, was almost filled to the rafters. By 6:20 P.M. the show started with the showing of clips on the 6 LCD screens.

The screaming and shouting of excited fans reached an eardrum-breaking decibel when the stage backdrop slowly started to lift- showing first a pair of shoes, then straight slim pants, the hem of a coat, the jacket front, the collar lapel, then finally the beautiful face of Bogummy. Singing the song, I Like You by Day 6, Park Bo Gum mesmerized his Manila fans.

I would have wanted to use my own video clip but because I couldn't decide whether to watch or video the event. I was mostly filming heads and out-of-focused views.

MS Anne Curtis was spontaneous, albeit quite anxious as host. She greeted Bo Gum in Korean and was greatly appreciated for the effort. The first half of the Fan Meet was comprised of Q&A for PBG, audience participation, giving of prizes to pre-selected ticket holders and a segment wherein Bogummy made an on-the-spot diffuser for a very lucky audience. Of course, I did not get selected, nor anyone in VIP Coral 3 section.

Anne Curtis interviews Park Bo Gum in English. There was an interpreter but the need for one hardly arose. Bogummy speaks good Engish. Even the accent and enunciation are highly acceptable.

One of MS Curtis’ questions to Park Bo Gum was what are the three things that he wishes to accomplish before he is 40 years old. In English, Bo Gum said that first , he wants to be married and have a baby before he hits 40. The collective awwww (paiting! good choice) and waaaaa (Whut?! You want to marry someone else and not me?) of the audience brought a huge smile on Bogummy’s perfectly bowed lips.

Second, Park Bo Gum said he wishes to study abroad. He was not very specific what course to pursue but knowing that he has a BA in Musical Theater, he would probably wish to take up masters in this field. Third on his agenda is for him to do an international film. I am not really sure which country he wishes to do a film. Probably in Hollywood much like Lee Joon Ki (Resident Evil: Final Chapter). Anne Curtis also asked Park Bo Gum if he has any bad habit he wishes to drop. Bo Gum said yes but refused to say what that bad habit is. Hmmm….

Boguumy asked the audience if they prefer him to have his hair short or long. Personally, both styles suit him, and he thinks so too.

Audience Participation

There were three lucky girls chosen to participate in re-enacting 3 of the 5 famous scenes of Park Bo Gum and Song Hye-kyo in the K-drama Encounter.

Participant 1 did the scene where Hye-kyo’s head was leaning against Bo Gum’s shoulders.
Participant 2 was a Korean halmeoni, PBG and her reenacted the scene wherein Kim Jin-hyuk (PBG) place a scarf around Cha Soo-hyun’s (SHK) neck.
The third scene was where Kim Jin-hyuk hugged Cha Soo-hyun from the back. However, PBG only positioned himself at the back of participant 3 and posed for the camera. Each participant was given a photo of their reenactment.

PBG had a selection of items to be placed in a diffuser jar. The jar’s bottom was filled with sand, and mini items such as banana, watermelon, eighth note, and more. The jar was then filled with liquid paraffin. Once the scented paraffin hardens, the jar becomes a scent diffuser.

He was so funny as he tried to look for the girl who was picked to get the diffuser. Bogummy was trying to find out the name of the girl so he can dedicate the diffuser to her. M? P? - asked Bogummy. It was Meg... I think...

Then a table filled with personal items from PBG were shown. The winners were already pre-selected. Again, I was not included. Curtis and Park exited stage left, promising to come back. I was thinking that Park Bo Gum would probably sing a couple or three more songs to cap the Fan Meet.

Boy, was I wrong!

The much awaited Park Bo Gum ( that superduperhandsome S.Korean K-drama actor) Fan Meet slated on April 27, 2019 at the Mall of Asia, is postponed. The safety of the artist, staff and probable audience were taken into consideration due to the recent earthquake that has been hitting parts of the Philippines, greater Manila, included. Thus, Park Bo Gum's May Your Everyday Be a Good Day Fan Meet has been postponed to June 22, 2019. Well, at least, it's in the same year.

Anyway, there's this Park Bo Gum Fan Page in FB that has a link for submitting letters for Mr Park. The post indicated that Bogummy prefers to receive letters rather than gifts from his fans.

So! Heck! I wrote one and submitted it online. I'm not really sure if my letter will reach Mr. Park but just in case it does not, I will post it here and hope against hope that sometime in the next 25 years, when Park Bo Gum is in his 50s and he has nothing better to do on a freakishly cold Seoul winter night, he'll type in and search for Dear Park Bo Gum, and this page will hopefully still exist, and on the list of searched links. My letter goes like this..,

Dear Park Bo Gum,

Annyeonghaseyo!

Though I will be at the Fan Meet on April 27, I doubt if I will get the chance to have a close-up look of your beautifully-chiseled face, much less shake your hand. So, for the first time in my life, I will be “fangirling” by writing you a letter.

The Hallyu craze started sometime in the late 1990s, but it was only in February 2019 that I got to watch my very first K-drama, What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim. I was fascinated with Park Seo Joon! I told my close friend about this and she excitedly told me to watch Encounter. I asked if the lead was also Seo Joon, but she said it’s another Park, a Park Bo Gum. Since the only K-drama male star that I know of was Seo Joon, I said “Okay, I’ll watch Encounter”.

White top and denim pants are staples for me so when I saw you dressed in such attire in the series’ first scene, you had my attention! I was not truly a K-drama convert then so I was trying look for flaws with the series. However, the more discriminating I was, the more I realized that you are a great actor who is able to show a wide range of emotions with minute facial expressions! With your arresting looks and good acting, I was hooked! I finished Encounter in 2 nights straight, and was advised by my friend, again, to watch Love in the Moonlight.

Choha! Saranghaeyo! You portrayed the role of short-tempered, intelligent,sensitive, passionate, playful, compassionate and faithful crown prince excellently! I became a certified Park Bo Gum fan! Even more so when I read up about you and learned that you are a music major who plays the piano, sings, and dances. You are a very talented, very popular, yet still a very unassuming and humble person!

As a true fangirl, I started downloading piano scores of Love in the Moonlight OST, of which my favorites are My Dearest, Because and the Moonlight Flows. My iPod and iPhone’s playlist include a PBG playlist. My Dearest is my favorite among all your songs (so far). That song brings out the best of your wonderful, mellow baritone voice. You have a rich voice timbre; your vibrato is soft and solid; your falsetto is very pleasant to hear as transition between chest tone and falsetto is flawless! I de-stress myself and sometimes lull myself to sleep, listening to your version of My Dearest. iTunes indicated I have played the song 89*times. Geurae, I can now sing it in Korean! 😊

I loved Reply 1988! Such a down-to-earth coming-of-age series. Team Taek! Never doubted it!I have yet to watch other series where you play second lead.

The Manila Fan Meet is the very first one that I will go to. My children will probably have a fit if they learn their mom bought a VIP ticket to see her K-drama star. What can I say? Oh well…life is too short! Keribels!

K-Drama What?!

I’m sorry if I seem to lack the propensity to watch telenovelas. I find watching them a waste of my time as:1.) they are too melodramatic for my taste, and 2.) the pacing and development of storylines are too slow. I’d like to add “bad acting and bad script”, but I don’t want to be labeled as a Pinoy Teleserye snob.

I do watch US TV series though, but K-Drama? No way.

On the other hand, two of my daughters are fans of anything K-Pop and K-Drama. Through them I became familiar with G Dragon, the variety show Running Man and "unlimited"samgyupsal. They even went on a trip to Seoul probably to have a more intimate “feel” of the country of their favorite Korean stars. My two daughters are no longer in their highly impressionable years. They are sensible, practical young adult professionals, thus their fascination to anything K was something new and strange for me (and to the rest of the household).

K-Pop is not an unfamiliar territory for me though. I kind of grooved to the catchy beat of Gangnam Style and the one-syllable and two-syllable titles of Momoland songs, which are staples to my 2-year old granddaughter.

I have not watched any K-Drama, until October 2018. My girlfriends and I were somewhere down south, billeted in a hotel with limited TV cable connection. I am a late sleeper, ending each night streaming my favorite US TV series, or movies. Ear-plugged and eyes-glued to my iGadget, I can hear and see my two girlfriends giggling while watching an episode of a K-Drama series. I briefly glanced at the flat screen and took in what they were watching - a nice-looking-hunk-of-a-man Korean CEO squeezing himself into a girl’s bed who I later learned, was his secretary. I saw the humor and wit of that particular scene. Though it was technically a bed scene, there was no malice or innuendos perceived.

Caving in to K-Drama wasn’t instantaneous; but prior to my watching that particular K-Drama scene, my indoctrination to anything Korean through my daughters, Psy, BoomBoom, Baam, and samgyupsal has been going on for quite some time, without me knowing about it.

What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim is the title of K-Drama that piqued my interest. On February 1, 2018, I clicked on Episode 1 link in Netflix. After a day or so of binging, I was hooked! I loved the series! I had to tell someone who is into K-Drama all about my "discovery".

Who to tell? ❓❓❓

A very good friend of mine is worst than my daughters with regards to watching K-Drama series. She spends every spare time (and sometimes absents herself from work) just to watch her series. She never goes anywhere without her tablet-full-of-downloaded-K-Drama series.

So, I told her about my growing interest to K-Dramas. The news excited her and recommended that I watch Encounter. I asked her if the male lead is Park Seo-joon. No, she said, but it’s another Park… Park Bo Gum. My daughter’s friend joined in the conversation and recommended that I watch Love in the Moonlight too.

After three days, I finished the two Park Bo Gum series.

My fascination for K-Drama and admiration (read: enthrallment, attraction) to Park Bo Gum have been sealed.

No school for Ethan. No waking-up early in the morning. No cooking for packed lunch. No homework! No reviews! And Yes!!! No MAID!

I let go of my one and only maid as I have proven without doubt that she has been stealing from us. Now, who would want a thief in the house?

My only real concern is that I have to do all the housework on top of doing my regular work.

What? That Long?

It has been ages since I last posted in Pinaymomblogs! A lot has transpired in the year past and I think I was just totally overwhelmed with events, work, family matter et al. In the process, I lost touch of the blogging world. The last time I was invited to join an event was almost a year ago. So what changes happened in my life? First, I was busy designing and building a house for a client. That alone, took a huge part of my time. Second, we have a new baby (well, a year old now)in the house. Third, my two other grandkids are growing up so fast that the house feels crowded which brings me to... Third, there is an ongoing construction in the house for two additional rooms. Fourth, D4 got engaged. That news should have been met with sheer joy but it was kinda marred by that fact that a day before the proposal she had a surfing accident. She's well and good now.

It is November already. In a few more weeks, Christmas will hit us right smack in the face. It is quite disturbing to hear Christmas songs blaring at malls as early as September as majority now equates Christmas with commercialism.Well folks, on this day of November 4, let me just reiterate that Christmas is for "Christ".

Ex-Insurance Commissioner Atty. Eduardo T. Malinis joined his creator on Friday, May 23,2014 at past 5:00 p.m.His untimely date leaves his family and everyone he knows dumbstruck. He was known as Kuya Watts, Tito Watts, Lolo Watts by close family and friends. Though he is my husband's first cousin, we call him Ninong Watts for he was one of the principal sponsors in our wedding.

We will surely miss his quiet and unassuming ways. His colleagues are now left with less one credible and honest person. His one and only son is now an orphan. Rest in Peace Ninong Watts! God's justice will prevail!

Malaysian Airline Flight MH370 - What's the Hush-Hush?

Malaysian Airline flight MH370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing failed to reach its destination on Saturday, March 9, 2014. The Boeing 777 carried 239 passengers and crew. The plane literally "vanished" as the plane did not make a distress before being "lost".

Much speculations are a buzz regarding this flight. Aside from the failure of the captain to send out a distress signal,. there were no signs of an airplane crash. There were a couple of debris and an oil slick found near the alleged crash site, and that's about it. There are speculations that the plane turn around right after passing Vietnam. Another speculation is that the plane could have been hijacked as there were at least 4 stolen passports carried by 4 passengers of the flight. Another speculation was the disintegration of the plane at 35,000 feet.

What's strange is that some relatives of the passengers tried to called their mobile phones and they rang! Unfortunately, the calls were left unattended. What's happening? Why the mystery?

Let us all pray for the safety of the passengers of MAS flight MH370.

Aging Gracefully

Aging brings a lot of changes more so to women. As a woman hits the golden years, her skin's elasticity is almost a thing of the past. The facial muscle sags, so do the rest of her body. The eyelids :"fold". The bags under eyes become more prominent, making the sagging face look older. I used to "fear" growing old. The notion of a wrinkled-sagging-old face gave me the jitters. Now that I've reached "that" phase in my life... well, it's not that bad. I just need to learn to grow old gracefully and graciously. I really have to start eating right, exercise regularly, keep a happy attitude and bask in the knowledge that aside from my family, God loves me!

I still look forward to dressing up and putting on makeup when the occasion calls. The only trouble is I find it hard to tame my unruly hair. A friend of mine "does" her hair wonderfully by putting on a hairpiece. Here, click for rachel welch hairpiece and see her fave hairpiece of all. FYI, Raquel Welck is past 70 and she's still gorgeous! Maybe, a great-looking hairpiece is an option afterall.

Dear BIR Commissioner: Doctors are Noble and Not "Cheats"

The medical profession suffered another blow from BIR (Bureau of Internal Revenue) when the agency approved the release of its latest advertisement regarding the payment of taxes. The AD shows a lady doctor piggybacking on a teacher with the caption : “When you don’t pay your taxes, you’re a burden to those who do. Do your share. knowyourtaxes.ph.”

The Philippine Medical Association headed by Dr. Leo Olarte, voiced out the sentiments of the physicians that the said AD generalized all doctors as tax cheats. The PMA asked the BIR to take down tha offending AD but Commissioner Kim Henares said that AD in question was not offending or insulting since the print AD was a statement of fact.

What is wrong with this?

Yes. There are doctors who do not pay the correct taxes but there are other professionals who do not pay the correct taxes too. Heck! I guess most politician and their cohorts do not pay the correct taxes! Why not go after these people? Why not go after those who "fix" their taxes c/o legitimate BIR representatives?

The print ad was in bad taste. Disrespectful. Offending. Insulting. Demeaning. What was Kim Henares thinking?

Henares forgot to consider the nobleness of the medical profession. True. There are doctors who are filthy rich because of their practice as there are doctors who barely make ends meet because they have dedicated their life in "really" helping those who need their services. It does not follow that those rich doctors and "poor" doctors are tax cheats! A survey of the best paying job indicated that doctors ranked only 5th.

I know a particular doctor who does pro bono surgeries on a weekly basis. He said that due to the BIR ruling, he now has to charge his charity patients 100PHP instead of them presenting an affidavit of free medical services.Why? An affidavit costs at least 300 PHP therefore it's cheaper (for the patient) to just pay 100 PHP professional fee.

In connection, a brief demonstration was led by Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) and Gabriela on Friday, March 6. Shoulder to shoulder, teachers and doctors condemned the BIR AD that portrays doctors as tax evaders. The protesting group challenged the BIR to go after conglomerates and business tycoons instead of doctors (and other professionals).

Need a New Casio Keyboard

So there we were... intently practicing three sacred songs for the coming worship services this March. The choir is "young" as it was only formed on February this year. It is also "young" in a sense as the male choir members are only in their late teens and early 20s. The problem with such a young choir is the inability of the members to "read" the music piece. I literally have to play each note so they could follow the tune.

As I keyed B and B flat, the keyboard barely made a sound. This can't be! I'll make myself hoarse if I sing every B and B flat outloud! Really, it is time to consider buying a casio piano keyboard from musicians friend. Heard the rate is very affordable.This is a good-enough keyboard for choir practices.

Sax Case

My son started studying the alto sax back in high school. I bought a pre-owned sax from a friend who was based in California. I think I bought the sax for 25 k PHP which I think was a fair price for the make and brand of the instrument. It's too bad that my son no longer plays on a regular basis. He was quite good. I was cleaning his room the other day and noticed that the snap lock on the classic saxophone case is broken. I think it's time to replace the old sax case.

Today, it's "come as your future self" in granddaughter 1's PK 1 class at Gymboree. We can't really decide what to dress her. Ballerina or as Princess Sophia? We combined the two. She went as a ballerina in her tutu then completed the attire with a tiara. When her teacher introduced her as Princess Sophia, she gracefully waved her hand to her loyal subjects... us!

Ok. The tutu is a bit big as it was D2's tutu of 25 years ago.

Engagement Ring

One of my daughter's friend is about to get a proposal. A marriage proposal, thank you! The boyfriend showed my daughter a set of really beautiful diamond rings in various colors, clarity and sizes. Yes, diamonds do come in colors of pink, yellow, blue and green. I'm not sure if there are other colors but I have seen the ones I mentioned. I particularly like the very light mint-green diamond. It's quite stunning. I also like the pink one as it looks so dainty. I'm not sure which one my daughter chose. I guess, whatever it is, it would look fantastic on the her friend's ring finger.

Mines View Park's Resident Doggie

I have never "seen" a St. Bernard dog up and personal. True. My neighbor has one such dog but considering that I only had a glimpse of the said dog (and a fleeting view of my neighbor as well) I am convinced that I have not seen the likes of a St. Bernard. Thanks to our spontaneous trip to Baguio and our disastrous trip to Mines View Park (which I swear has lost its attraction), I would never have seen a real-live-friendly-cuddly-hug-able St. Bernard doggie. For 50 PHP, one can pose with the dog and take as much pictures as one likes. I know!

The City of Pines, Baguio City, was a big surprise for me. The last time I went up to the Summer Capital of the Philippines was back in the mid 1990s. Though Baguio back then was a far cry from the Baguio of my childhood days, it was not so bad. I hardly recognize the city now. It was so congested with people, cars, commercialism et al.

The old Session Road's topmost part has a humongous mall sitting on it. It was teeming with people that I thought I was in good old Manila or Makati. I had to make a quick trip to the mall since I needed an electric kettle to "sterilize" Tabby's bottle. The mall has all kinds of specialty stores. I could even buy a keyboard at guitar center if I wanted too!

What is sad is the fact that the once beautiful City of Pines has transformed into a crowded, polluted and highly commercialized city where the whiff of pine trees is no more.

Baguio City Trip

Okay. It was an impulsive decision. There were so many things to consider and I purposely disregarded them for my want to take my two older grandkids to Baguio. I "blame" a close friend of mine for my unplanned trip to Baguio. She told me of this inexpensive place to stay off Legarda and Kisad Roads and coupled with the fact that the temperature in Baguio City was hitting 11 degrees Centigrade... I just had to take Ethan and Tabby to the City of Pines.

Vhong Navarro: Beaten Up! Cries Foul!

Just what is the truth behind the Vhong Navarro incident? Navarro's badly beaten-up face was plastered in all types of media including social networking sites, on Thursday, January 23, 2014.

A group of men, allegedly led by businessman Cedric Lee, beat the crap out of Navarro. According to Vhong Navarro, a certain Deniece Millet Cornejo invited him over to a condo in BGC on Wednesday, January 22, only to be blindfolded and trashed by Lee and his cohorts. According to Navarro, the collusion was all about money as he pointed out that Cedric Lee was asking for 1 million pesos for an alleged "rape" video clip be kept private. Yup! Navarro said he was being framed for raping Deniece Millet Cornejo. and that for that news not to get public, he has to cough up moolah.

On the other hand, Cedric Lee said Navarro attempted to rape Ms Cornejo and that he interceded to abort the dastardly act. Hmm.. I don't know. The "lines" of the two opposing parties are not clear. There are loopholes to contend with. :Let's see what happens next.

New Amplifier Please!

It was quite nerve wracking to hear and then "not hear" the PAW team as they sang praise songs at the church service this morning. Something was wrong with the amplifier. Loose wiring? Nope! More on broken amplifier that has been ready to "retire" two years ago! What to do? As part of the music ministry I should take the initiative to consider purchasing a mesa boogie amplifier, no less. I better see how much one costs before I make my recommendation.

Choosing an Area Rug

Choosing an area rug for a specific room seem to be easy IF you only have a handful of choices and IF you are choosing for one room only. But if you have more than 2,000 choices and about 10 rooms to choose an area rug for, then THAT is not easy. I have spent hours and hours and hours contemplating on what rug to choose. I have to think of the overall concept design of the house, the color scheme, the type of rug as it pertains to whether it's hand-woven or power-loomed; hand-tufted or hand-knotted; wool or polyester and so on. I saw these area rugs at Jaipur Rugs. Simply beautiful. Can't decide which one to buy.
