Synopsis

Melanie Carmichael, an up and rising fashion designer in New York, has gotten almost everything she wished for since she was little. She has a great career and the JFK-like husband of New York City. But when he proposes to her, she doesn’t forget about her family back down South – and, more importantly, her husband back there, who refuses to divorce her ever since she sent divorce paper for almost five years. To settle matters straight, she decides to go to the south quick and make him sign the papers. But when things don’t turn out the way she planned them out, she realizes that what she had before in the south was far more perfect than the life she had in New York City.

What Uncle Sha learned

I’ve come to a conclusion that Paul Dempsey who has a role in the movie, a pretty looking lad that he is, I however find his voice rather annoying.

Whenever he speaks, I just feels like skipping the scenes he’s on, that’s how bad it is. You could say he’s on par with Jay Leno, another annoying celebrity midget.

As for Reese Witherspoon, she is such a darling right, so sweet and totally believable for me as the country Southern girl.

I can somewhat relate to the character Melanie Smooter in Sweet Home Alabama, who was ashamed of her redneck pauper past.

Once I brought my school friends home, only to be teased of my poverty living condition. That’s the last time ever I brought anyone home.

As usual with such typical rom-com, it has a happy ending where Melanie journey back to her roots and redeems herself by finding where her true heart belongs.

Yes the premise of the script might be an old and predictable, but I like it.

You come away with a feel-good feeling at the end of the movie.

The story itself for the film serves a good teaching points for guys out there.

I once was hurt too in love, but retrospect it gave me an opportunity at my expense however, to broaden my horizon and better myself as Jake did in the movie.

So dudes, get your act together before embarking on any serious adult relationship.

What Uncle Sha learned

On a search on the movie database website IMDB, the term “Emma” conjures up some 16 results.

I’d might say Jane Austen’s writings is still a popular choice for movie-makers, a new Emma adaptation is even slated for 2010.

Well amongst the many of adaptations, I chose the 1996 TV production staring Kate Beckinsale.

For one, it’s interesting to watch Kate in her pre-plastic surgery and Hollywood-esque days.

Secondly it has one of the higher ratings on IMDB among the Emma adaptations.

Plus there’s a certain more focus in this film, the story doesn’t deviate too much from Austen’s original writing.

Emma I would say in local lingo is a ‘kaypoh’, haha … butting into other people’s business but her own.

Still the character flaw is rather endearing, and Emma meant well, although her inclination to pair-up people usually ends up in disaster and a good laugh.

I would think everyone could relate to the story where one’s true feeling are usually hidden out of fear and rejection.

Or one’s odd behavior in the presence of someone they envy, pushing them away rather than ‘confessing’ one’s interest.

With Emma as a perfect example, I can’t help but wonder how blind sometimes we can be, when our true love is probably staring right across us, unnoticed and oblivious.

It’s best one never ever jump to conclusion and try not to be a busybody eh people.

Synopsis

Benjamin Barry is an advertising executive competing with two female co-workers for a major campaign for a diamond merchant. He cuts a deal with his competitors that the account is his if he can make a woman of their choice fall in love with him in 10 days. In comes Andie Anderson who, in turn, is writing a story on how to lose a guy in 10 days as a bet with her boss to be allowed to write more substantial stories. With a hidden agenda in each camp, will either party be able to complete their mission?

What Uncle Sha learned

I think this is one of the better romantic comedy out there.

The story is unique in itself considering both characters are trying their best to out-smart each other.

I just love the crazy-girlfriend-act by Andie played by Kate Hudson.

I was laughing myself silly when all the worst girlfriend attributes that would scare any sane man away was unleashed in one go during the movie.

It sure brings back a lot of memories for me. Truly Andie turned up the notch with the sniffles scene and the mushy name-calling.

Everything was hilarious, there were great chemistry, I love the one-liners, but the kissing part didn’t convince me. I can’t be certain if it’s Matthew McConaughey or Kate Hudson who was the bad kisser in the film.

It is as if I’m looking at two fishes trying to gulp for air … eyyywww!!

The girlfriend scare tactics in the film itself did bring out a very good debatable point, which is cohabitation.

Should a couple, or shouldn’t they?

I do believe only when you’ve lived together during the span of your relationship, and knows the little nitty-gritty of each other, can only a relationship take the next step. Well that’s just me of course.

And one last quip from me for the girls, coming from a dude, any guy who likes and thinks highly of that certain girl, he WILL put up with anything.

But never ever mess with our obsession with sports, and name-calling our dick please.

Plus oh yeah, never ever mention the ‘L’ word too quick while you’re still dating!

On a endnote, the scene where Kate Hudson was wearing Knicks jersey, now that’s sexy. I know there’s sexy sexy ya know, looking fine in a sizzling number, but at times, wearing something unexpected like the guy’s long-sleeve shirt, or putting on a singlet of the sports team the guy is supporting, now you’ve got his attention!

Synopsis

I can tell why chicks love watching “The Princess Diaries” … doesn’t every girl have this fascination of becoming a princess? Am I right.

To us guys, it’s the equivalent of us dudes wanting to become a famous soccer player, or playing Dirty Harry.

After watching the movie, I might say there’s slight a miscast.

No it’s not Julie Andrews. Despite my thoughts of her wanting to break into the Sound of Music dancing-singing repertoire every time she appears on-screen, it was Anne Hathaway.

Yes I agree she’s about the prettiest thing I’ve seen around, and being cast a social nerdy geek was just too unbelievable.

She’s just too pretty, no I’m not saying that’s a bad thing, but no matter how much dirt you try to cover on her, she still looks hot!

I have to give props to her kissing prowess. The scene where she kissed Michael in the garden, fuuyoooh I was feeling it. Guys take note!

It’s a coming-of-age kinda movie, about having faith in miracles, and the triumph of oneself overcoming awkward adolescent.
