Shooting young family portraits has always fascinated me not only
because of the varied experiences based on the number of people your are
shooting with but also because of the many unpredictable things that
happen during the photo session. Depending on the ages of the members of
the family of your client you need to be more spontaneous and be
adaptable to different levels of interaction. Portraits of a young
family is truly very challenging. Here are some starting tips for a
successful enjoyable young family portrait session.

1.)Learn to
interact with the kids. If the childrent in your session are happy the
parents would also feel comfortable and as a result, you will achieve
more natural portraits. Do you best to entertain the children throughout
the session to draw out more laughter and smiles in the scenes.

2.) Refrain
from take posing shots. Avoid posing as this will give you less natural
portrait. Besides children do not sit in one place for a long period of
time. They always move, walk around, and even run. Keep your session
this way also....active and moving. Constantly be moving with your
clients. You may be able to capture the most natural unguarded moments
of the kids. You may be able also to position the couple where you want
them and encourage the child to move around like walking, twirling,
crawling, etc.

3.) Go where the child is. Sometimes your may be
working with kids who do not follow what you instruct them to do. Better
yet in this situation to follow them and keep the ambiance lighthearted
and fun by having the parents to follow the child until the child
stops. Your task then is to have the parents draw cloe to the child and
then take a burst series of pictures.

4.) Always be shutter
happy. Do not be so concerned as how many shots or how many times you
have pressed the shutter. Working with the children takes a lot of
trials. The bottom line is to make sure to catch the right expressions,
and the best position in the family portrait.

5.) Prepare yourself
for anything. Don't set the family portrait with your client with set
ideas which may not be adapted in the real session. Have some ideas in
mind that may serve you possible but do not impose and be prepared to
take what you have and run with it.

There is actually no right or wrong as to what mode to shoot your photos....much more nothing to feel embarassed about when asked. The shooting mode is after all a photographer's choice... where he feels more comfortable and finds it more convenient to adapt. Each photographer has his own style and skills and uses the camera in many different ways. The bottom line though is to come up with one superb clear breath taking photo.

For the record, I tend to shoot most of the time using Manual Mode because I feel I have full control over the aperture and shutter speed. One drawback though that I encounter with manual is when you are taking photos for events, there is a risk of missing some moments compared to when the camera is set to either aperture priority or shutter speed priority, and much more with automatic setting.

For the record also, of the 3,731 votes, 1595 opted for Aperture priority. Manual mode ranked second as the most prefered mode. 31% goes to the manual mode, 10 % to automatic mode, and the rest of the 8% voted for scene mode and program mode.

One of the most difficult events to cover in photography is wedding because you got only one chance to capture every significant moments. You can not ask for retakes and re-shots for such occasion or you will miss it otherwise. It takes a lot of experience and practice before you become a professional wedding photographer. The blog sphere is loaded with wedding photography tips that teaches how to make memorable shots in every actions in the wedding.

Capturing every significant actions of the couple during the wedding is quite taxing because it involves pressure from many people whether you are doing it professionally or simply doing it to render favor to a friend. It is essential to understand the needs of the subject even if some of the guests have the tendency to be jerks. One best tip I've read involves the right attitude in the field. The following are common tips on attitude in handling wedding photography:

Level down your pride in the spirit of professionalism.

Be polite and try to be efficient by ignoring your own qualms. Consider it as your gift to the marrying couple. Always arrive on the field on time well prepared.

As soon as a deal with the client is closed, start doing research on anything you need about the wedding. Spend time visiting the church and the reception to accustom yourself with the venue.

Find out the best way to get to the place on time. If possible practice going to the venue on the same time of the day of the wedding event to familiarize with the lighting condition and to get ideas on how to position the couple during photo sessions.

You can find more helpful wedding photography tips on magazines and internet that specifically deals with techniques on how to take candid shots, group photos, and portraits.

If you have been reading stuff about digital SLR, you probably have come

in the camera in the first place. Here are 5 simple practical ways how
to avoid sensor dust.

Refrain from changing lenses in the field.
Dust
is indeed very difficult to control most especially in the field. The
moment you open your camera to change lens you are exposing your sensor
to the ambient air and dust. Dust in the air is a colloidal system, it
is always suspended in the air. Wanna see how much is actually in the
air? Turn on a flashlight in the dark...you'll see the Tyndall effect
that the dust makes.

Point it Down
If changing lens out in
the field is deemed necessary, point the front end of your camera
toward the ground when switching lenses. Don't let gravity help because
generally speaking, all things fall down not up, including the lightest
particle of dust. So by pointing the sensor toward the ground, dust is
less likely to settle in there.

Be fast and accurate.
Swapping
of lens should be done quickly to avoid catching dust. This though
requires practice. Before removing the lens from the camera, make sure
the other lens is already ready---cap is removed and placed right next
to the camera. The moment the camera is unlocked and lens is removed,
replace the new lens at once is quick fluid motion. Take note, do this
with the camera pointing down the ground.

For a lot of times I
see photographers taking off the lens, then putting the cap and keep it
in the camera bag, pull out the new lens, uncap it, and then mount it on
the camera on their tripod. Well, the camera sensor in this case has
already been exposed for about 60 seconds......quite long and it means
quite a lot of dust has already been accumulated.

Use dust bag
In
some areas, dust is just too dense to be nasty. In such areas, it is
advised to use a dust bag. The idea here is to insert your camera and
the new lens into a bag where there is no dust, and swap out lenses
inside the bag. These dust bags are usually translucent s0 you can see
what you’re doing, and you don’t have to worry about keeping the
sensor face down.

Cap the camera
When there is no lens
attached to the camera, always put the custom cap in place to protect
the camera sensor. I usually keep the lens mounted all the time..but for
some photographers who are not deft enough with swapping lenses, they
dont mount lens on the camera ahead. In this case cap can be a good
interim step.

If you are sending your camera for cleaning or
repair, you also don't be sending it with lens mounted for it means extra
weight and extra handling...so simply cap the camera instead.
Fujifilm is set to impress customers with a special edition of their
their latest model of digital camera, X100 camera Special Edition.
Being a special edition, Fujifilm released only a limited number of
just 200 units featuring a tan leather casing and a leather case that
matches the original. This is in fact the only difference that you could
find in X100 from the original model. The leather-wrapped special
edition looks similar to the Leica camera designs.

Fujifilm X100
Special Edition is equipped with a 12.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, an
EXR processor, a 23mm F2 Fujinon lens, a 2.8-inch LCD display, an ISO
range of 200 to 6400 and an SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot. The camera also has a
hybrid viewfinder that works in both optical and electronic modes.
While the standard Fujifilm X100 is tagged at $1,200, the special edition price is not yet revealed.
Few tricks with layers bring Autumn to your door.

STEP 1: Open your image file that has trees in the background and foreground.

STEP 2:Duplicate the image layer (Layer>Duplicate Layer) or right click on the layer palette then choose duplicate layer. By doing this you can erase parts of the image you don't want the Autumnal tones applied to and bring the original shot back through.

STEP 3: Double click on your top layer to open the Layer Style window then select the Color Overlay option. Change the Blend Mode to 'Hue' and click on the coloured block to pick the shade you want your foliage to be. Click ok once you've chosen your desired hue.

Step 4: E rase some color. Your trees will now be hued with Autumn colors, however we don't want all other parts to have the same hue. To remove any unwanted color select the Erase Tool and simply brush over the area to bring the original shade from the other layer back through. You may do the same to some parts of the trees.

Once you are done erasing the parts which you wish to appear green, then you're done. See how simple it is?

Its a fact that we do often get sharper shots and are able to plan our composition more carefully compared to having no tripod. A tripod can improve your photography tenfold. But are their differences in quality, style, functions, and durability among tripod brands? Yes, there are degrees of effectiveness in a tripod and in most cases it does not deliver these same degree of durability, stability and reliability.

So before buying your own tripod, consider these 5 important things that you need to know. These 5 things that you need to know are primarily focused on the tripod legs for your tripod setup and the head or camera mount is another issue to put focus on.

1. Weight

Weight is now an utmost concern these days. Gone are those days where tripods are made of heavy aluminum material. We can now get lightweight tripod made of carbon fiber and yet it offers ultra rock durability.
But the trade-off of course is the price. They say the more money you throw for the set of tripod legs, the lighter your tripod will be.

Weight is truly a major consideration when you do a lot of hiking, or toting around of your gear. But if you're in a studio all day most of the time, the weight factor may not be a big issue.

Weight factor would really depend on the kind of photography you are into. Light carbon fiber-made tripod may not be appropriate on a windy beach as strong wind could easily whip the entire tripod set and worst, smash your camera on the driftwood.

2. Segments

Which is best to use a 3-segment leg or a 4-segment leg? Many manufacturers are now starting to offer both 3-segment and 4-segment legs. Leg segments are another elements to consider next to composition (whether aluminum or carbon-fiber). The factors that you should consider here are portability and height. With more segments, you can collapse your tripod to more compact which allows easier porting to and from various locations. More segment legs is beneficial to travel photographers. If you don't travel often, or do not have much outdoor activities, then segment is less to consider.

Now taking height into the equation, the more segment, the higher your tripod can go.

Finally, segment goes with different lock mechanism. Which is better---latch system or the twisting mechanism?

The twist-lock mechanism is easier to manipulate when extending or collapsing the legs but many prefers the latch-lock system. Whatever you preference is, segment lock system is another part of the equation to calculate before making a purchasing decision.

3. Height

If you are 6 feet tall, hunching over those 3-6 inches to the top of your tripod could be straing on your back. But if you are shorter, height may not be a problem. A 4-segment leg tripod is typically longer than lesser segment pieces.

4. Accessory Features

You might be surpised, a tripod offering legs wutg foot spikes, horizontal bubble levels, vertical bubble levels, dual bubble levels and even tripod bags for transport. Some legs come with built-in bubbles, others feature them as add-ons for extra dollars. Same goes with the foot spikes and bags. These add-ons can increase the price to certain degree so make sure to consider these when you purchase your new tripod.

5. Manufacturer

Who makes the tripod? There are several competitive manufacturers out there that basically offer the same features of tripods. So choosing the right manufacturer primarily goes with your tastes and prefernce. Although there are already big names in the industry that seem to be the cream of teh crop in stability circles.

Much as there are many things to consider when buying your new or next tripod, the legs are clearly one important part to consider. So be smart and research more about the legs composition, segment, height, accessory it offers, and manufacturer before jumping into the purchasing decision.
