She's Alternative's Purchasing Manager by day and creative photographer by night and on the weekends. Read on to find out why photography is Abby's escape from the hustle and bustle of her busy life.

How did you get involved in photography? Do you have any formal training or are you self-taught?
My parents gave me a point and shoot camera when I was 11 or 12 years old. From then on, I was hooked. I’ve been taking photos since and studied formally for a couple of years.

What inspires your creativity with photography?
I’m not sure I know what inspires me – I just love taking photos.  My heart races when I’m setting up for a photo shot and it’s a thrill. I like the challenge of adapting to different environments and all of the decisions involved in just one shot…and in the end, sometimes you end up with something nice.

Who are some of your favorite photographers?
I’m terrible with names so only remember the big ones like Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Sally Mann. I prefer smaller shows with unknown artists because you never really know what to expect.

Is photography a side hobby, weekend business or just something you like to do when you’re not at Alternative?
I’ve done a little contract work over the years but find my personal work much more rewarding.  I think everyone deserves to find something they enjoy doing that they can be proud of.  For me, that’s photography!
