  At present, most physicians and dermatologists within the medical community hold the view that Morgellons disease is not a new disease but is simply a new name for known medical conditions. In some cases these are known skin disorders like scabies, allergic dermatitis, and contact dermatitis. Nevertheless, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has bowed to pressure from the Morgellons Research Foundation and a growing number of claimed Morgellon patients and are currently investigating the condition further. The CDC refers to this condition as Unexplained Dermopathy. Present research is inconclusive and the CDC states that it is unknown as to whether this is a new condition or whether individuals claiming to have morgellons have some shared basis for the symptoms of morgellons they display.   My roommate just told me he has scabies. He started itching, went to the doctor relatively quickly, and was diagnosed. He had it once before as a school teacher.

  My question is this. I don’t itch. If I have been exposed (aka lil buggers feasting and sexing on me):

  How soon would I see scabies symptoms?
  How soon would I be infectious?

  He offered me 1/2 a bottle of cream he got from the doctor as a preventative measure (permethrin). We haven’t had skin-to-skin contact. I briefly sat on a couch he slept in. Scabies infestations can affect people from all socioeconomic levels without regard to age, sex, race or standards of personal hygiene.

  To make it more interesting, I have a date tomorrow night. Tango dancing.

  Is there a possibility I’m infectious after sleeping in the cream?

  My daughter has what looks like insect bites on her abdomen. I watch children in my home and one of them has recently had skin “problems”. Her mom told me that they gave her cream and it was better, and that it was some sort of allergic reaction and chaffing. I believed her, but this little girl had bug bite looking things on her hands and she and my daughter play a lot. Now, my daughter has what appears to be scabies and I think this lady hid it from me. What should I do?

  Dealing with Scabies Problems

  Take your daughter to a doctor for an official diagnosis. No matter what kind of skin problem the other child had, and even though she had a cream to put on it, you should have kept her separated from the other children in the house until it had cleared up. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do about it. There are laws in place (HIPAA laws) that give patients a right to privacy. They don’t have to tell you what they or their children have. As for nasty things like scabies and lice, etc., that’s what you unfortunately will have to deal with from time to time when you are running a children’s daycare.
