]]> If you’re like my clients, you want your space to make a statement while still remaining timeless. The economy is still a tough beast and consumers want to get the most for their money when it comes to design. People seem to be shying away from anything too trendy that will need to be updated again within a few years. One way you can do this in your own home is by using stripes. What’s more timeless than a good stripe? They’re never out of style and can make such an impact! Of course they can also be as subtle as you’d like, however, this post is more about bold stripes. Here are some ideas for how to incorporate this look into your home.

]]> I was in Bath & Body Works with a friend over the weekend and was fawning over their beautiful new (is it new?) perfume and body spray packaging! This was the first time I’ve been in the store in a long time so this post might be behind the times (I made the switch to all-natural beauty products over a year ago). Has anyone else found themselves more focused on the pretty packaging than the sweet-smelling elixirs inside? Of course all (err, most) of Bath & Body Works’ fragrances smell amazing, but I’m a visual person and I care almost as much, if not equally as much, about how the product looks as how it smells/performs. B&BW’s product and graphic designers really hit the nail on the head this time around. Look at these gorgeous bottles – all of the bright beautiful colors just slay me!

The Twilight Woods bottle is my absolute favorite – I’m always obsessed with a purple-to-amber gradient!

]]> For those of you (probably most non-designers) who are not familiar with the term millwork, it basically refers to any wood within a home – trim, built-ins, paneling, etc. In my opinion, millwork is one of the most crucial pieces of ‘wow factor’ within a home and the lack thereof leaves a space feeling a bit blah. Unfortunately it’s common practice in new construction (at least in this region) to omit many elements of millwork including trim around windows and crown molding. Com’on builders, this makes SUCH a huge difference! If you really want to make a statement in your home, black millwork packs a punch! Just look at these beautiful examples:

]]> One of my favorite things in design is selecting beautiful tile and thinking up fun ways to use it.  There are so many unique, gorgeous tiles on the market now that it’s hard to decide which to use!  One manufacturer with some of the best tile (in my opinion) is Artistic Tile.  I mentioned Artistic Tile about a year ago in a post about KBIS and was prompted to post more in depth after an ASID rep meeting yesterday evening.  The rep was in town to show us the new products their showroom now has and she announced that they are also now carrying this line!  I, as well as all the other designers in the room, let out a collective gasp of excitement.  You have no idea how much designers love pretty, shiny things!  ;o)  Immediately after the announcement, talk of a ‘field trip’ to the showroom began.  Sadly Wichita lacks access to many high-end products so we designers are forced to road trip to KC for the good stuff.  The Wichita ASID ladies are awesome though so I’m looking forward to a weekend girls’ trip!

Artistic Tile is certainly not affordable but you don’t buy beauty like this on a budget.  Look at these amazing products!

]]> Ok people, I’m obsessing again! I told Hubby this morning that my design tastes have been turning on a dime lately. A week ago I was drooling over 100-year-old houses and traditional style, and this week I’m all about anything modern. In my opinion, you can’t have a completed modern (or even contemporary) space without a totally awesome architectural staircase. To me there’s almost nothing more awe-inspiring than a cantilevered staircase. The stairs appear to float, which is also why these are often called floating staircases.

I dare you to tell me you don’t think these stairs are amazing! Even if they’re not your style, you’ve got to give these works of art the credit they obviously deserve.

To be fair, I had a lot going on in January when these photos were taken.
