How to get there?

Sagada is situated 275-km north of Manila near the provincial capital of Bontoc. It’s a long day bus ride starting from the Dangwa bus station in Baguio over the narrow mountain tracks traversing the Cordilleras. A way trip to Baguio from Manila is 5 to 6 hours. Sagada is a 6 to 7-hour drive from Baguio. This route offers a ride through Halsema Highway and a view of the Benguet countryside. Another way is to go via Banaue, which is 10 hours from Manila by land. This is a longer route but more preferred because it offers tourists a chance to see the breathtaking Banaue Rice Terraces

Pinoy worker in Jeddah returns $320,000 find

JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia - A Filipino worker who returned a huge amount of money he found in northern Saudi Arabia to its rightful owner has become an instant celebrity among fellow expatriates.

The new hero is Lark Michael B. Colegado, a 34-year-old family man from Tacloban and Misamis Oriental in the southern Philippines, who works as an automated teller machine (ATM) maintenance technician for Al-Hamrani Universal in Jeddah.

In an interview, Colegado narrated that he was sent to the northern city of Tabuk last week to do preventive maintenance and fix an offline ATM because his Pakistani colleague responsible for the place was on vacation.

At an ATM located in a gasoline station, he was looking for a place to seat to do his work when he saw a small box beside the machine. When he checked, he found that there was money inside the box.

Without hesitation, he called his superior, who then informed officials of a bank that owned the ATM. Bank officials found that the box contained 1.2 million riyals or 15 million Philippine pesos.

He said he informed his Pakistani helper of his find and he immediately sent an e-mail to his superior to inform him about the money.

In an e-mail to Colegado, his managers said they were proud of having an honest person in their team and thanked him for doing the right thing. He said he was promised not just an appreciation letter but also a “bonus."

Colegado asked media people who interviewed him not to identify the bank, saying he has made a commitment to his superiors to keep the information confidential.

Word of what he did, however, spread like wildfire among members of the Filipino community.

During a get-together at the Laparilla Restaurant in Jeddah, leaders of different various organizations came to marvel at Colegado, and some in the audience said what he did was a feat not easy to duplicate.

“What Colegado did is very timely. At this time when we have lots of compatriots facing financial problems in this country, here comes a man returning a very big amount of money he found with no regret," said community leader Jauhari Usman, a past president of Kasapi Congress.

“Honestly speaking the huge amount is really tempting. If it was somebody else who found that money, I do not know if it would have been returned. What Colegado did is really admirable and it boosts my morale as a Filipino," Usman added.

Rudy Castro, chairman of Overseas Filipino Workers Cooperative Council (OFWCC), said: “It is worthy to note that in spite of the very bad situation in our country, there are still people like Colegado doing a great thing. It is really an honor for all of us as Filipinos to show to the world that we are a trustworthy people, notwithstanding the problems being caused by some of out kabayan."

Joey Villanueva, chairman of Jeddah chapter of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants, said in remarks addressed to Colegado: “We are proud of you and in behalf of PICPA and the Filipinos here in Jeddah, we congratulate you. Your honesty shines in spite of the flood left by Ondoy and Pepeng ... I’m proud to be Filipino because of you."

Gina Casino of Hawak Kamay group said Colegado “makes us proud once again to be a Filipino; what you have done is more than heroism."

Omar Salvacion of SAM Foundation described Colegado as a fine example, and Ricky Guiang of Metrobank wished many more Filipinos would emulate his great act.

Consul Leo Tito Ausan Jr. of the Philippine Consulate General said in a telephone interview that Colegado’s “heroism will boost the morale of the Filipinos not only in Saudi Arabia but around the globe."

In an interview, Colegado said he was touched and inspired by the community response to what he did.

“I’m very happy, I am proud that in spite of the huge amount it did not come to my mind of taking this opportunity to take something that did not belong to me," said Colegado, who has a lone daughter with his wife, who works at the Saudi German Hospital inJeddah.

“I could have been richer if I kept that money but I was raised by my family to be an honest person so it did not enter my mind, although I was really scared when I found that box," he told GMANews.TV.

“My parents raised me to be a good and a God-fearing person I am not perfect as nobody is perfect but I’m very happy for what I did not only to me but for my family and for God," he added. GMANews.TV

It is really makes my heart more fat when I read this news which someone of our kaBayan (Compatriots) did really great good things and overcome the temptation of returning a huge amount of money. Their is no doubt for me to think that we could consider him as one of the best Filipino and best in our Philippines that we had Mr.Colegado showed a truly characteristic of Filipino.

I can say this because as OFW too here in Saudi Arabia this is another Honored for all of us especially not only here but in the whole world despite of what we have struggling now in our country we shouldn't take it away in our mind of what is still right or good things to do for keeping our Hope, Determination, Strength & Faith to God to recover it up in what ever may trials comes to our life.

"Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makararating sa kanyang paroroonan." or to translate "A person who does not know how to look where he came from, would not be able to reach his goals or destination." and very obvious the meaning of it is that a person that does not recognize his or her roots cannot succeed.

At this Tagalog proverbs is one of my best example of a person that he never forgotten his roots despite of being half american and filipino blood this proud Filipino guy had really proved his success in music industry and keep loving his own country Philippines.

I like this video of Allen Pineda "aka: Apl de App" of Black Eyed Peas because it's really promoting my country Philippines and it is reminding that we should be proud of all beauties that we had and loving it.

Kawasan Falls

Another unrevealed of true enchanting falls that really makes the province shine are the Kawasan Falls of Cebu.

Kawasan Falls are where a river falls steeply down the hills above the town of Matutinao, just south of Badian. It is actually a series of waterfalls, of which the first is the biggest, however the scenery gets wilder and more impressive the further up you go.

How to get there?

Some 115 km (or 2,5 -3 hours drive) south-west of Cebu you'll find Kawasan Falls. From the parking area you'll have to walk more or less 15 to 30 minutes along a very rocky and narrow path, but even though it is a bit humbling bumbling it is worth it, just take it easy and enjoy the walk along the beautiful river. Look at all the different kind of tropical plants -it is not every day you'll have that many beautiful impressions.

You'll have to cross 3 small bridges before reaching the falls, even though you might feel for passing them very fast, try to stop at the middle of number 3 and look upstream, your camera will jump for pleasure if you allow it to take a few shots and you will have a forever lasting picture of what might have been, or- is Paradise.

Mantayupan Falls at Cebu

One of the still undiscovered, well-preserved tourist spot of Cebu are those nature tripping for the water falls.
Mantayupan Falls is the one of the highest falls in Cebu where 61km away from Cebu City or a 1 ½ - 2hours trip and which is located at Barangay Campangga, Barili, Cebu. Cold but very refreshing water from falls is also best alternative nature trip after visiting some of the famous places of the province.

How to get there?

From Mactan Cebu Airport just ride a taxi going to Cebu South Terminal at Mandaue City and you may choose whether to take a public buses or hire any van going to Barili. And when you reached Barili you can ride via a Habal-habal (single-motorcyle) to Barangay Campangga which Mantayupan Falls is located.

And if you have Car just take SRP to Talisay, continue to Carcar and cross the mountain road to Barili. At Barili Bus Stop, take a left turn through town, the falls are just a short distance away.

For the entrance fee is Php 10.00 per head; parking fee is Php 20.00 for car and Php 10.00 for motorcycle. It’s really affordable.

Amanpulo's Beach in Palawan

How to get there?

Getting there in Coron has two options: via Air or SuperFerry boat which is more cheaper. From Manila we can take a domestic flight going to Busuanga Island, Palawan and after that you have to take a jeepney ride to reach the Coron town and to enjoy your island tripping you have take a boat ride to reach the Kayangan Lake, Sangat Island and etc.. And if you will go via SuperFerry boat you have ride a tricycle from Coron Pier to the town.

Pacman vs Hatton: Mabuhay ka Manny!

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (AFP) – Philippine southpaw Manny Pacquiao stopped Britain 's Ricky Hatton in the second round here to match a boxing record by taking a title in his sixth different weight class.

The Filipino superstar knocked the Englishman down twice in the first round and finished off Hatton with a powerful left hand to the head that sent Hatton flat on his back.

Referee Kenny Bayless looked at the unmoving Hatton and waved his hands without even counting to 10, giving Pacquiao the victory after two minutes and 59 seconds of the second round.

Pacquiao won Hatton's International Boxing Organization junior welterweight title.

Pacquiao, seen as the world pound-for-pound champion, won his 10th fight in a row, improving to 49-3 with two drawn with his 37th early stoppage. Hatton fell to 45-2, losing at junior welterweight for the first time in his career.

Zoobic Safari. Is the latest attraction of Subic Bay Freeport's Forest adventure. The "Zoobic Safari" offers a unique ride in a "Safari Jeep" through the vast expanse of savannah amidst the Ilanin forest in Subic. This is very enjoyable adventure because beside of seeing animals you may also have chances to learn from our brother Aetas who were trained by the Navy Seals as early as the 1960s. They now serve as forest rangers and guides to this popular ecotourism attraction in Subic. These aetas demonstrated before us hunting techniques and the use of tools, like sumpit and pana (bow and arrow) which are handmade by them. They also performed ethnic rituals, like hunting and fishing dances.

Caramoan, Camarines Sur.

Is a remote oasis of diverse natural attractions and a home to unspoiled islets with several pocket white sand beaches, partially hidden by asymmetrical rock formations. The islets are 30 to 45 minutes boat ride apart from each other.

Pieces of Paradise

After docking at Port Guijalo, another half-hour land trip finally gets you to Gota One Beach. Considered as the accessible jump-off point to the other nearby beaches due to its proximity to the Caramoan town proper; a mere four kilometers away or a 15-to-20minute ride by land from the Guijalo Port. Gota One offers holiday resort convenience via its clusters of wooden cabin with modern facilities. A few laps away is its twin, Gota Two, an exotic beachscape of powdery coral-white sand, rock outcrops, pristine shore facing the clear Paniman Bay; it is ideal for bonfire camping, swimming and rock climbing. Clasping on one side by the beach front is a huge panel bolted limestone, claimed to be the first ever rock-climbing facility in the Philippines.

Matukad is a lone island midway between Panimam Bay and Malarad Bay. The sweeping 10-to-12-meters of alabaster white sand beach are a beautiful contrast to its lapel of green blue clear water. Several paces up, behind the sparse foliage and crags, is a placid emerald lagoon.

Lajos (or Lahos) Island Beach is a 10-to15minute boat ride from Gota Beach. Two almost identical turrets of limestone rocks stand guard to the threshold of a wide sandbar. At high tide, the water flows over the bar and conceals is beneath the water, revealing only the rocks that serve as markers. Lajos Island lies almost parallel to Matukad Island and askew from Gota Beach, forming a triumvirate on Paniman Bay.

Lahuy Island features a 10-km strip of white sand-shells-corals beach. A site for a gold mining and gold-panning, it is surprising tha the beach remains undisturbed. Big surprises come in small seashells or corals tucked within crevices of limestone ridges.

Sabitang Laya is a dramatic landscape of grainy white sand, small to medium rock outcrops, and a two-dimensional view of the Tabgon mountain ranges. Many locals come more frequently here than in the other islands because they find Sabitang Laya to be a perfect venue for family picnics with the angled canopies of rocks giving enough shade. The pool within the inner fringes of the islet is not too deep and is nice for swimming, snorkeling, rowing, or catching parrot fish. The ideal time to go to Sabitang Laya is during low tide, which usually occurs in a cycle of four hours, beginning from as early as 8:00a.m. and to leave the islet at around 3:00p.m. just before the afternoon high tide occurs and water advances up to the beach.

It is common to hear that Hunogan Beach typifies a tropical beach paradise and can actually give Phuket Beach in Thailand a run for its money. Apart from tranquility, which is priceless, everything else in Hunongan Beach from the fine vanilla-white sand to the medium buttes dotting its coastline is incomparable. This beach island is being groomed by the provincial government for its high-end resort project because the swimming area is a vast and stretches midway to the next island. Construction of upscale living units for tourist is in full throttle.

GETTING TO AND AROUND CARAMOAN

> From Manila. Take a bus for an approximately 8-hour ride to Naga City Central Terminal near the San Francisco Church: or a domestic-route plane for a 45-minute trip to Naga Airport.

> From Naga City. Air-conditioned vans are available to take passengers to Caramoan for Php85. Travel time is approximately 1.5 hours: or take a public jeepney plying the Naga-Sabang route to Sabang Port, which is cheaper by at least Php10. Approximate travel time is 2 hours.

> From Sabang Port. There are small boats (banca) that transport passenger to Guijalo port in Caramoan for Php.120. Approximate travel time is between 1.5 to 2 hours. The boat schedules start at 5 am until before lunchtime. Special rental boat takes you from Guijalo port to Caramoan can be arranged for Php 3,500.
A provincial government-owned and subsidized catamaran is currently made available – free of charge – to transport visitors coming from Nato Port to Guijalo Port for a faster 1 hour and 15 minutes ride.

> From Guijalo port to Caramoan, Take a public jeepney or tricycle for Php.15. Approximate travel time is 15 minutes; from Caramoan to Gota Beach, fare is Php.20.

> For tours around the beach areas. A boat can be rented out for whole-day Island hopping (from morning until 4 p.m. to as late as 6 p.m.). An 8-to 10-person capacity, 8-meter outrigger boat that runs on a 16-HP motor can be hired for Php. 1,700; while a smaller, 6-meter boat that runs on a 5-HP motor and can carry 2 to 4 passengers, is pegged at Php.1,200.

WHEN PLANNING YOUR TRIP

> Go during the months of April to September and again from February to March – the best months to visit Caramoan.

> When island-hopping, consider the low-tide windows between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. to around 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. and recurs around 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. until about 7:00 p.m.

> Ask for a knowledgeable tour guide to take you around the places and maximize your trip.

The Hundred Islands National Park (Pangasinan: Kapulo-puloan or Taytay-Bakes) is in the province of Pangasinan in northern Philippines. It is located in Alaminos City, Pangasinan. The islands (124 at low tide and 123 at high tide) are scattered along Lingayen Gulf and cover an area of 1,844 hectares (4,556.62 acres). They are believed to be about two million years old. Only three of them have been developed for tourists: Governor Island, Quezon Island, and Children's Island.

Lucap, just 3 kilometers from Alaminos, is the main accommodation centre for the islands and from here you can hire boats to reach them. There are lots of hidden coves, caves and coral reefs. Quezon, the largest island, is being developed as a tourist resort.

By commuting from Cubao bus terminal just ride a buses (Victory Liner or Dagupan Bus) that bounding to Alaminos then after 4-5 hours trip and dropped at Alaminos take a tricycle and tell them to bring you at Lucap pier which you can rent a boat for your Island hopping. Boat rental fare it's in approximately of 1000 - 2000 Php.

No test of patience can be as difficult as the one in the arena of love. To profess love during the Spanish colonial period (1500’s-1800’s) in the Philippines, you should have the guts to stand outside a lady’s home, sing love songs as best as you could, and wait for judgment. This is American Idol in the Spanish colonial era. And the judges? Her parents. In some parts of the world it was called the serenade or serenata. In the Philippinese, it called the Harana.

With no portable sound system at that time, a young Filipino counts on his trusty guitar. If he’s not musically based, he asks the help of his friends. With fervent hope, they wait for that one flicker of the lantern light that can mean all this musical effort is being noticed.

At last, the lights turn on! Could it be that she also likes him, or is it simply to stop him from waking up the neighbors? Two things can take place when the windows are opened: either the lady and her parents have encouraging smiles or the parents have a pail of water to splash on the hapless suitor!

But if all goes well, the young man can start sending a stream of love letters. His fortitude is tested when all these endearing notes of rejected. But if he carries on, the courtship reaches the next level where the young man serves the family as willing slave. He fetches water, gathers and chops wood, helps in cooking and cleans the house. Indeed, it is a test of endurance for almost a year! If it weren’t for the promising reward, he might as well wish that he had been a carabao instead!.

Misamis Occidental Aqua-marine Park

After a long vocation in blogging and before my traveling will end up my heart would probably won’t it to stop. But facing the reality my minds is already decided to be a practical person and changing my current job. awwww!!...

Anyway this February I went to Oroqueta City a 29 kilometers away in the city of Ozamiz in the province of Misamis Occidental for me to take the chances of exploring of what they had of beauties.
The Aqua-marine Park is one of the must see and to be visited attraction of the City which you may bonding up and swims with very kind Dolphins at Dolphin Islands.
Kayaking, Scuba Diving and Snorkeling is also best activity that you may do as well.

Getting there in Aqua-marine Park in Sincaban is very easy. By taking a plane from Manila to Ozamiz, just ride a Tricyle from the airport (Fare rate: 60pesos or equivalent of $1.2US per person) and tell them to the driver to take you in Ozamiz Bus terminal.
At Bus terminal they are Buses routing to Dipolog or Shuttle/Van going to Oroquieta City who has fare rate of 15-20pesos until through Camarin which the Aqua Marine Park located. And when you already reached the Park you have to pay initial payment of entrance fee for a 5pesos per person as you could enjoy and see the mini zoo out there.
And while upon reaching up the Dolphin Island you have to take a boat ride and pay a entrance fee that cost of 200pesos or equivalent of $4.25US.

Barasoain Church @ Malolos City

A national shrine, the historic Barasoain Church is the site of the Constitutional Convention of the first Philippine Republic, making the Philippines the very first Asian Government to promulgate a Constitution. It was the Seat of the First Philippine Republic on Sept. 15, 1898 to the last week of Feb. 1899 under the presidency of Pedro Paterno. In its convent the Universidad Literaria Cientifica de Filipinas was first housed. It also boasts of a light and sound museum under the management of National Historical Institute.

Is been enthusiastic yesterday when I got the chances to get back in my Alma Mater, it has been a four years ago that past and reminiscing of attending the every First friday mass held at Barasoain church. I was so proud in every time I remember the five years of studying and with the historical church as their being part of my college days.

Simbang gabi starts at December 15 until 24 of the night that Jesus Christ was bourne. It is really feel's good to attend the mass at early in the morning especially when we are with our loved ones or family.
For nine consecutive days in December, Filipinos wake up before 4:00am for the Misa De Gallo, or the Rooster's Mass, (as roosters crow in the dawn), a ceremony attended by the faithful in preparation for the birth of Christ. It is believed that when the mass is through, God will grant the wishes of the devotees. A tradition brought in by the Spanish in the 17th century, Simbang Gabi used to be held at 4:00am to allow farmers to attend mass before tending fields.

Hungry!? Do you have your spoon and pork now? How about your plate? So you’re ready now? Because my new blog entry is all about eating that will crave you for surely.
Hmmm…. Ok… here it is…

Lechon Baboy - It’s connotes as a whole roasted pig or suckling pig (Spanish word).
This is undoubtedly as a symbol of feast because of being highlights dish in any festival.
And today the Lechon are now usually seen in any celebration not only in the festival.

The crunchy skin and juicy pork followed by dipping in a tasty gravy or vinegar is what makes Lechon more likely to eat, and that’s why they known it as the our Phililippines National Food.

During a third week of June in Balayan, Batangas they are literally celebrated a feast of St. John which is by dressing up their roasted pig Lechon and parade it into the town before they eat them as for symbolized of thanksgiving for the celebration.

Getting there in Iligan City is very easy. You could use this as the best option; take a plane ride from Manila to Cagayan de Oro (1.5hours) then while at the City of Friendship airport just take a taxi ride (20-30mins.) and ask the driver to drop you at the Bus terminal going to Iligan City (choose the meter taxi only). The traveling time from CDO bus terminal to Iligan City bus terminal is just 1.5 – 2 hours at the fare amount of 120Php aircon bus and when you reached the Iligan City just rent a taxi going to Natures Park of Iligan City where the Maria Cristina falls located because from the national road to park’s gate had almost 1 kilometers distance and also from the Nature Park's gate to Maria Cristina Falls.

Higantes Festival at Angono Rizal

The Higantes Festival, Angono’s joyous fiesta in honor of San Clemente whose image, resplendent in papal vestment, is borne by male devotees during a procession accompanied by “parehadoras”(devotees dressed in colorful local costumes, wooden shoes and carrying boat paddles and “higantes” giant 10-foot paper machete puppets go on parade in the town). The street event culminates in a fluvial procession in Laguna de Bay amidst revelry that continues until the image is brought back to sanctuary and it is celebrated during 3rd week in month of November.

Awww… actually I supposed to set my schedule for this Sunday November 23, to witness the celebration but unfortunately I have to go and travel in Ilagan City at Mindanao province prior to my work. So I hope the photos and link posted here could give you an enough satisfaction of Higantes Festival celebration.

November 5-7, 2008. When I had my first visit at this wonderful province of the Philippines. And first that I realized to myself is when I will comeback here??. Hhhmmm.. maybe soon.. Wonderful because this province has so many attractions should to visit and activities to do.

Dipolog City, is the Orchids capital of the Philippines which you can locate at northwestern part of the province of Zamboanga del Norte. The province also called as the gateway of Mindanao provinces, very popular to the Filipino in term as the best producer of tasty sardines and also seafood importer.

Some of the popular attractions that must be visit are the Linabo 3003 steps, Cogon Eco Park and ofcourse it won’t completed if you’re not going to go in Dakak beach resort, unwinding while tasting sweet mango and fresh coconut juice.

And when it comes to Festival the province also had Sinulog sa Dipolog ( celebrated during January 27 of the year), Pagsalabuk Festival and Zamboanga Del Norte Mango & Sardines Festival.

In terms of delicacy Dipolog has Tinagaktak – (a snack food made in rice) and Dipolog authentic bibingka.

Visiting Guimaras Island!

Swimming in a white sand beach, island hopping, snorkeling, unwinding with fresh air and while eating a sweet mangoes, are just only the main activity that you could do in the Mangoes Capital of the Philippines, which is the Island of Guimaras.

Raymen Beach resort, October 22-23, 2008 is the day that I have been fortunate to travel in the Guimaras Island. The place was very good for us to take the vacation and for relaxing moment.

Taking photos of the different scenery of the beach is what makes me my main activity of staying into Guimaras Island. My experience here in the island is really amazing and I already stocked in my memory. Lol!
Because of native way of living; first from traveling going to the resort was truly anticipating especially while in a riding into multicab jeepney. I experience that we like a sardines there. Hehehe.. Second while at the resort they is a fisherman selling their fresh captured fish and they sell it in a low price. And third of course tasting sweet Mangoes is what makes me complement.
I'm sure you'll not be able to think twice because if you are concerning of about the budget for visiting Guimaras, hhhmmm..I think that wouldn't be a problem because the resort is allowing for customers to bring their own food.

Getting there in Guimaras Island is very easy, from Iloilo city there is a pier pump boat terminal which will bring you for 15minutes ride to the pier of Jordan - a town in Guimaras; fare rate is only 13 pesos, at pier there are multicab jeepneys, that bonding in Nueva Valencia, so you'll just tell to the conductor or driver to drop you in Crossing Abulihan; fare rate is 30 pesos with 40 minutes traveling time. And after dropping you at Crossing Abulihan there are a lot of Habal-habal (a motorcyle rides) and tell them that you will go to Raymen's beach resort.
