So I'm sure by now you're aware of the hype Google Shadow is causing in the internet marketing world.

Okay...Time to delve into just what the product offers:

Automated Software

One of the most interesting aspects of the product is the software. Now everyone loves automation and this ticks all the boxes. You have a piece of software which enables you to set up hundreds of Google Ads in a very small space of time.

This is perfect for this sytem as they have already streamlined the process of linking to affiliate pages so the software just make slife easier. The system is really simple to implement and even an Adwords beginner can be up-and-running almost straight away.

Direct-Linking

This is a vastly important aspect of the system and completely turns around what the gurus are teaching.

For the last couple of years people have been proclaiming direct-linking is dead but these guys have stumbled onto a system that can and does work.

If you don't know what direct-linking is well basically it is when you set up an Adwords campaign you link directly to the product page instead of your own website. No need to design a review or pre-sell page...just send them to the product page and take a commission. As easy as that! No wonder the gurus wanted to pretend this was dead...

No Complex Testing & Tracking

This is where the product gets really interesting.

For most marketers, having to test and track your campaigns can be one of the most tedious aspects of Adwords. Having to check spreadsheets and use tracking code to work it all out. This can get boring fast!

Well Tim Houston aka 'The Shadow' openly admits that he makes over $100,000 per month and often doesn't test very much at all. This is a real lazy persons system. If you're making money just keep it up.

Another of the most irritating parts of Adwords campaigns is that you need to find hundreds or even thousands of keywords before you begin. Then you have to track all of the keywords until you find what works.

Low-Cost Campaigns

The last part of traditional Adwords marketing that causes some many people to fail is the high costs to start a campaign. Normally you have to start with at least $200 per day to really see if a campaign is going to work.

Google Shadow is different. For this you can test a campaign on a very low startup. Put $15 - $30 into a campaign and wait to see if it is profitable.

Most people blow their budget early and get out of the Adwords game before the start to see any profit. With this system you can avoid this and find your winners early and fast.

As you can see Google Shadow is a breath of fresh air and promises to really offer something for the newbie marketing who is not yet making much money with Adwords. Another thing to bear in mind is the reputation of Chris X and the Day Job Killer team.

We've heard it all before. Using Google Adwords, you bid certain amounts for specific keywords. Then when a user searches on that keyword, your ad shows up on the right hand side of Google for whatever they're searching on.

For example, if you bid on "golf balls" and someone searches on golf balls, they see your ad. Click it. Visit your site, and buy your stuff. Then you get rich. We've heard the story a million times...

If ONLY it were really that easy. That's what the "gurus" want you to believe. That's what I used to believe. And That's what many others still believe until they get sucked in and lose all their money.

But the reality is, it's nowhere near that easy. If it were, everyone would be making millions from Google Adwords... and that, unfortunately is not the case.

If they stopped running the ad, then it didn't make them money. Simple.

So, after a couple of months, what their competition would do is basically write a similar ad. Advertise in the same magazine. And then expect and get similar, profitable, results.

Everyone "piggy-backs" and copies off of one another's findings and success. For some strange reason, this concept has never really become mainstream and common practice in the internet marketing community. This is GREAT news for people like us, that are "in the know".

You monitor your competition for specific keywords they're bidding on. If they continue bidding on those keywords month after month, then they're making money by bidding on those keywords.

Making affiliate web pages by hand can only be done so fast, after some time this method does result in more pages to be spidered by search engines, but is still limited. How many pages do you think you can make by hand on a daily basis? One, five, twenty? What if you were able to make 20,000 in one day? Right now, you might have three-hundred affiliate pages published on the web. What if you had 100,000 pages published? Now imagine that most of them are in the Google database. Wonder how much traffic that would generate?

Some argue that using a data feed means that the results at the search engines will be flooded with worthless redundant information. This is a possibility – if everyone made their pages the same way. However, there are many ways in which you can make your web site not only stand out, but be of value to your site visitors, those using search engines, the merchants, and most importantly you. Later, we’ll cover some of the things you can do to enhance the value you put into your data feed based web sites.

How are data feeds delivered to an affiliate?

Data feeds can be delivered a number of ways, but usually involve the use of File Transfer Protocol (FTP). For example, many merchants have the affiliate log in to their (the merchant’s) server, and download the feed. BeFree and Overstock.com use this method. Performics actually delivers your feeds directly to your server, via FTP. Still other programs may e-mail the feed to affiliates. As of this writing, BackCountry Store updates their feed via e-mail every week, helping to ensure fresh content is being published on the web.

How much do data feeds cost?

Many feeds are free. Some aren’t. If you have a zero budget for feeds, don't worry, there are many merchants that supply free feeds. If we were to add up the number of products that free affiliate feeds represent, the number would reach above a million. Is that enough? Some of the networks charge for feeds, or require that your own affiliate performance be pretty high in order to get started. For example, Linkshare currently charges $250. as a one-time set-up fee. Once paid, all merchants that have feeds (and that you are an accepted part of their program) are available to you. CJ has a similar program, as does Performics. Although Performics may provide you with a free feed – it's worth a try. BeFree’s feed is free.

Many independent programs also offer free feeds, and some merchants that are part of the networks mentioned above have feeds outside of the their network. A good place to find out which feed is which (so to speak), is abestweb.com (ABW). If you are a serious affiliate, then you already know about ABW. Additionally, there is a WebMerge section, and a Data Feed section at ABW that offer more great resources to help you build your affiliate web sites.

What is actually in the data feed?

Records:
Remember, the feed is filled with products. Each product in the data feed is called a Record. Another way to look at it, is if there are 3,500 products in the feed, then there are 3,500 records – one for each product.

Fields:
Each record (product) has information associated with it. This information is found in individual “Fields” For example, if we look at a product from the Betty Mills data feed, we’ll see a couple of fields like the URL for the product’s image location “http://www.bettymills.com/store/images/product/CFRS2786.JPG”, and the main category for the product “Air Freshener & Odor.” Most feeds contain many more fields, and sadly not all of them are the same. Some feeds may have twenty or twenty-five different field names. Don’t worry, we’ll show you how to deal with that.

Field Names:
We also need a name to call the fields, these are called “Field Names,” and may look like this: “IMAGE_URL,” “MAIN_CATEGORY,” and “SALE_PRICE.”

So we have records, fields, and field names. It would be nice if these were organized into a table, so we could simply look at it like a spreadsheet, wouldn’t it? Well, that’s exactly what all this data information fits into – a table. One of the tools you will need that we’ll talk more about later, is a tool to view the information in the data feed. For example, MS Excel or other programs work well (note: WebMerge will have this functionality in a future release). But to give you a sneak-peak, and to show you visually what the feed looks like loaded into Excel, check this out:

Only four field names are shown (they won’t all fit on this page). There are three records (shown), with twelve total fields.

How is the data in the feed separated?

If you open the data feed in something like WordPad, or your favorite text editor (Earlier versions of Notepad are usually too wimpy to look at data feeds), you’ll see all of the fields jammed together, so it will look like one big file full of stuff. If we look at just the first record in our text editor, it would look like this:

Pretty confusing, isn’t it? Well fortunately, data feeds are formatted or Delimited where each field is separated by something called a delimiter. Many data feeds are “pipe” “tab” or “comma” delimited. The above example is “pipe” delimited. Maybe you can see the little vertical pipes between the different fields, they look like this | The pipe character should be on your keyboard at the extreme right, above the Enter key.

How a data feed is delimited is very important when we want to import it into Excel to clean it up, or when we use WebMerge to make our html files.

How to turn data into web pages.

Turning data feed information into a web page that visitors can view, deliver value to the visitor, and be found in search results at major search engines, can be accomplished a couple of ways. One way is to utilize a script located on the web server to convert the information on the fly. This method, utilizing scripting languages like PHP, Perl, or CGI is very fluid and configurable, but requires programming knowledge. Some scripting methods do not allow for easy spidering by search engine robots. We will focus on another method, utilizing a tool called WebMerge to build what are called static web pages that are uploaded to your server complete and ready to be spidered.

9 Myths Of Landing Page Quality Score in Google Adwords

Your landing page quality affects your AdWords quality score. and quality score has a large impact on the success of an AdWords account. So, it’s important to separate the fact from the fiction about what affects landing page quality score, and to understand what you can do to improve your landing page.

Myth 1: My keyword has to be on the landing page

False. The search engines understand semantic indexing. If a page is about cell phones, it probably has the words: Bluetooth, 3G, mobile or cell, phone, etc on the landing page. If your keyword was ‘mobile phone’ and you sent traffic to your page about ‘cell phones’ that did not mention the word mobile on it, your quality score should not suffer.

It can be a good practice from a consumer’s standpoint to use their lexicon (mobile or cell); however, it is not an absolute must. The closer related your landing page’s theme is to your keyword, the better your landing page quality score will be. However, it is not necessary to use the keyword on the landing page from the quality score perspective.

Myth 2: Adding a privacy policy will increase my quality score

It depends. If your site doe not collect any personal information, then you do not need a privacy policy (from Google’s perspective, but your country may have different laws regarding TOS and privacy policies). However, if you collect personal information, such as an email address, phone number, or credit card, having a privacy policy will help your quality score.

One of the quality score guidelines is transparency. Your privacy policy may say that you will sell any information given to you to the highest bidder. However, the fact you put that into your Privacy Policy means you were transparent to the user on what would happen to their personal information.

Myth 3: My site is in Flash, so I can never have a good quality score

False. Google has made many improvements with regards to indexing flash. This does not mean they will index your site properly. An exercise you can try is to put your URL into the AdWords Keyword Tool and have your page spidered. If the suggested keywords are similar to what you think the page is about, then you are generally in good shape. If there aren’t any results, or the suggested keywords are completely different than what you think the page is about, you may wish to try making your site more search-engine friendly using progressive enhancement technologies such as SIFR (and see the SEO: Flash area here on Search Engine Land or resources at Jane & Robot).

Myth 4: My page is all images. The new load time guidelines are lowering my quality score

False. Google only looks at how long it takes the page’s HTML to load in determining landing page load times. If your site is loading so slowly that you see a problem with load times in your AdWords account, you have larger issues with your site. Just loading a page’s HTML (not scripts, nor images) should be exceptionally quick. It should be noted, Google has said they may eventually incorporate all page elements into the load time for determining quality score. If this happens, you may need to optimize your images, scripts, and other called files.

Myth 5: Adding an ‘about us’ page will increase my quality score

While this is a good practice from a user standpoint, it is not an absolute must. As above, the actual AdWords guideline is to be transparent to the user. My testing has not shown that this will help quality score yet. However, it is a good practice as this could very easily be added to the landing page quality score formula and being transparent to users about your business is very much inline with Google’s goals.

Myth 6: Google hates affiliates

False. The question affiliates should ask themselves is: “Was the user’s search experience made better by visiting my page before going to the merchant’s page?”. If you review several services and show the benefits and features of each service so that a searcher can make a more informed decision – then you’ve helped the search process. If your page is just about a single product and every single link from that page just goes to the same merchant page, then you’ve not added to the search experience.

There are many exceptional affiliate sites that add to the search experience. Google does not hate affiliates. Google hates making the search process longer for the user.

Myth 7: Microsites and dedicated landing pages no longer work

False. While Google does wish a user to have choices, you can easily build a page that showcases a single product or service while still giving the user navigational choices. While microsites or one-page-wonder sites have taken some quality score hits over the past couple years, dedicated landing pages are still effective.

When designing your page, look for non-intrusive ways to add some navigational elements to the page. If you consider this from the user’s standpoint, the page you chose for them may not be the actual product they wished to see. More importantly, if a user wants to find out more about your company before committing to trusting you with personal information; do they have any options?

Myth 8: If my site doesn’t have a high Pagerank, I can’t get a good quality score

False. First, PageRank is stored aT the page level and not the website level, but we’ll ignore that fact for the moment. Google has a completely different bot and algorithm for pagerank versus landing page quality score. While both ads-bot and Googlebot may share some data, the way the data is actually processed is separate and for completely different purposes. A brand new site can do well in PPC. A site that is banned from the organic SERPs can do well in PPC. A site banned from PPC can do well in the organic SERPs. Landing page quality and natural search rankings are completely unrelated to each other.

Myth 9: If I only have manufacturer descriptions, I will never have a good landing page quality score

Sometimes true. One of the quality signals Google looks for is unique content. If there are many sites using the exact same manufacturer description, the question to ask yourself is: Why should someone read this information on my site as opposed to the other many sites out there? If you can mix up the content with other information, offer buying guide decision help, or offer other unique content for a searcher – it will help your quality score. However, if you must use manufacturer descriptions, your landing page quality score may suffer some, so that just means you need to focus more on increasing the other factors that affect quality score.

Conclusion

It is important to note the landing page quality’s influence to your account. Landing page quality score is not used for all of the algorithms that determine your account’s visibility. You can view information about your landing page quality score within your AdWords account. Just click on the magnifying glass icon located next to a keyword within your account and you can see detailed information about your landing page.

While it is important to maintain a good landing page quality score for your AdWords quality score. It is much more crucial to ensure that when a consumer arrives at your landing page, you can turn them from a visitor into a conversion.

You'd be fighting against millions of others trying to do exactly the same ... but if you choose to target less popular keywords your chances of success multiply many, many times over.

This has absolutely NOTHING to do with advertising, SEO, Adwords, Adsense or Pay Per Click ... I can GUARANTEE you WILL NOT have to pay a penny in advertising.

Meanwhile my chosen route has less programmers for this particular platform which in turn means less choice for the end user. Ever since I first started out on the Internet I have been a constant fan of Alexa, although I would not always agree that the traffic reporting is 100% accurate, it does give a very good indication of where a website is heading and just how popular it is.

The following screen shot will back up my website statistics shown in the first screen at the top of this page.

This top screen shot details the first leap in traffic when I introduced My Traffic Strategy in early May 2008. This jump constitutes a leap in traffic of almost 7 times the previous month, from around 6000 to over 40,000 in just one month. Each month thereafter we have seen between a 20% and 30% increase settling to 10% between August and September (traditionally quite months).

What you need to remember is that My Traffic Traffic Strategy kicked off in early May 2008, and since then that traffic hasn't slipped back. This is not just a one-off hit through some fancy once-in-a-lifetime technique; the traffic is compounding each and every month ... whatever I do each month simply adds to the previous month's visitors.

I Used To Hate Adsense!

Well, that was until My Traffic Strategy was perfected.
