We have now Zebra crossings marked at almost all circles. We have the new reflectors, traffic eyes installed as well and BUS bays being marked.

This is for the first time that actually BUS BAYS have been marked in the city. The city buses with lack of bus shelters used to stop anywhere the drivers felt like and hence caused a lot of problems to the traffic.

Now with the BUS bays being marked and we hope the same has been communicated to the KSRTC bus drivers that they need to stop their bus within the bus bay marking. In fact fines should be imposed for not doing so.

Bus bays have been marked at many places like Chennamma circle, D Sambhaji Chowk, College road etc.

No doubt the Zebra crossings have also being marked but people are not encouraged to use the same

Ashiwin’s attendance was about 42% but as per the rules a student has to have a minimum of 85% attendance per semester to qulaify to apperar for the exams.

However his friends allege that the Principal had demanded money as his parents could not pay it he attempeted sucide. The Principal as how ever denied the fact of asking for money and said more than 90 students have shortage, but we have allowed all but 10 who had attendance of less than 50 per cent.

MP Suresh Angadi has been pressing for a baffle range in Belgaum and in September 2011 such a proposal was also put forth by the DC to the army officials. The Suresh Angadi Education Foundation’s Angadi Institute of Technology and Management (AITM) have been built next the firing range on Survey No. 72/73, which lies in the danger zone in the “Baghdad-Asmara field firing ranges”. The said area has been notified as a firing range in the Karnataka Gazette notification of February 10, 1981.

A Baffle Range has baffles on either side and above the range floor intended to help prevent shots leaving the range.  A baffle range provides for a secure firing range with a perimeter — series of walls surrounding the target area.

Currently 18 projects are listed in the database.

The important for Belgaum are the Bus stand modernization, Dharwad- Belgaum railway line, Outer ring road, Multi level car parking and sold waste management.

Power Plant at Vantamuri

The 700 MW gas power based planned in Vantamuri village of Hukkeri Taluka. Construction is scheduled to start in Jan 2013 and project is estimated to be complete in Jan 2016. Estimated cost of the project is Rs.3500 crores.

NWKRTC bus stand development: 

The development of bus stand is said to be in the Bidding stage but no details are available. The project was bided out in Feb, 2009 & no bid was received due to NWKRTC’s decision to handover Project site II after 2 years. The Project was restructured & formatted as per e-procurement system. Rebidding was invited on 2nd June2010 by e-procurement mode. 2. 2 bids were received & evaluated. The Bid Evaluation summary was briefed to the Transport Secretary, GoK on13th Dec, 2010 3. Decision of NWKRTC Board is pending on approval of the Project.

Dharwad- Belgaum railway line:

Currently Pre-feasibility of the line is being studied. Estimated cost is Rs.375 crores.

Outer Ring Road: 

Current status of this project is Pr-feasibility. Estimated cost is Rs.300 crores.
The city is well connected to important cities by NH-4, NH-4A, SH-20 (Raicchur-Bachi Road) and SH-54 (Gokak Road) all carrying significant amount of vehicular traffic. Considering that these roads pass within the city limits and there are no truck entry restrictions, traffic volume on city roads is high throughout the day. Thus an outer Ring road approximately 41 km in length is conceptualized to divert the traffic entering the city through NH-4, NH-4A, SH-20 & SH-54.

Multi Level Car Parking: 

Currently Pre-Feasibility of the project is under Progress. Multi-level car parking at City Centre near Ramdev Galli at Belgaum on PPP basis is planned at an estimated cost of Rs.4.3crores.

Implementation of Intelligent Transport System-Belgaum:

Pre-Feasibility of the project is being studied currently. Estimated cost Rs.110 crores.

Solid Waste Management:

Solid waste/Bio-medical waste/Hazardous waste : Collection, transportation, treatment and disposal facilities will have to made with a capacity of 100 TPD. converting MSW in to manure is also a part of the project.

It was also interesting to see the visuals almost live on Kannada channels as it seemed they had prior information.

After the incident MSRTC stopped all its services and KSRTC sighting reciprocative action stopped all its buses going to Kolhapur. However later the long distance buses going to other parts of Maharashtra were on schedule except buses going to Kolhapur. Now the buses go only upto the border.

The passengers were not allowed to alight down but all some how managed to alight and no one was injured.

The Pro Kannada activists are believed to have made this attack as sign of protest against the Govt giving the permission to hold the Maha Melava (Convention) in Yellur village, which is being held today.

The convention is being held in Yellur to make the demand that Belgaum be made a union territory until the court decides the border dispute.

The city area is calm and there is no tension of any sorts other than a huge police presence all over the city. About 20,000 people are expected to attend the convention.

See the yellow marking of the bamboo placed almost amidst the road. For a refrence see the electric pole behind it, so in normal terms this bamboo pole should have also been in the same line as the electric pole. (in fact the electric pole is also a hindrance which was not removed while the road was widened.)

For erecting such ads boards one needs to take permission from the Corporation and also a fee is to be paid, but placing such ad signboards which cause hindrances to movement of traffic should not be allowed.

The country, particularly south India, is facing an acute shortage of liquefied petroleum gas, something that the state-owned oil marketing companies attribute to a combination of factors, including financial constraints in the backdrop of their mounting under-recoveries.

The crisis is due to delayed supply of cylinders. There is shortage in the godowns too. Consumers are complaining that the gas is being delivered 60 days after booking.

The Marathi Mahila Manch and Marathi Yuva Manch today gave a memorandum to food and civil supplies office regarding the same and also demanded that the SMS service for booking LPG must be scrapped as not each one possesses a mobile. Also it was alleged that LPG cylinders were black marketed and sold for over Rs.1000.

Currently LPG cylinders are being delivered after a gap of 60 days.
