His work ethic and integrity was unmatched and admired by all that knew him. The contributions he made to the alarm and fire industry were beyond measure and his presence will be greatly missed. A firm believer of hands on involvement, Ken served in many roles with the Florida Electrical Contractors Licensing Board, Alarm Association of Florida, and the Florida Police Chiefs Association. He also served in many leadership roles within the community including the Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Lord of Life Church, the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Grace City Church, and the Jaycees. The recognition he was most proud of occurred in 2019 when he was presented with the 2019 National Businessman of the Year award by the Small Business Council of America.
It should come as no surprise that Ken began his professional journey as an educator and coach. We should always remember his mentoring and the encouragement to become everything we can be, to ourselves and others. I will miss him often but remain forever grateful for his mentoring and friendship during the incredible years I knew Ken.

Dear AAF Members, Past Members and Future Members,

It is true that the association has lost some of its splendor and punch in the last few years what with Covid and a few other struggles.

It is true also that an association lives and thrives thru its membership with the ability to meet together and with other industry counter parts at least annually. It is also true the AAF, like many other associations, has not been able to have these gatherings do to restrictions imposed the last couple years.

The good news is you can now dust off your travel gear and prepare to attend the 2022 AAF Southeast Security Conference and Annual Alarm Association Meeting this coming March 9 thru 11, 2022 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in beautiful Orlando, Florida.

The agenda is packed with Contractor License Renewal Training Sessions, FASA/BASA Renewal Sessions, Business Sessions, Awesome Entertainment, Open General Assembly, Election of New Officers with nominations from the floor, plus the exciting Retirement and Awards Dinner Honoring our longtime Executive Director Mr. Bob Neely and his wife Linda. It’s gonna be a Hum Dinger, if you get my drift!

Your Alarm Association Workforce Development Committee has also, under Chairman Rick Seymour, been working diligently on involving the Florida State College System in developing a state wide Low Voltage Training Program. The curriculum for this 750 hour program prepares the graduate to enter the workforce ready to perform normal technician duties on his/her own with limited direct supervision.

There are also other perks from the state that are pretty awesome. Some of the educators heading up these programs will be on site at the convention for face to face conversations and also on the program for a complete presentation. If you are like me and most of your fellow contractors, the problem is not finding work to do, but getting someone to do it, get it right the first time, show up every day, on time, ready and willing to work without a chip on their shoulder. It’s been kind of like trying to find a trouble without a meter, one handed in the dark without a flashlight!

You have no doubt received your registration packet and most of you have filled it out and sent it in, but for some of you who are waiting until the last minute or wondering if will be worth your time and effort, I am telling you that you will not be disappointed with what you find in Orlando. We have even structured it so you can stay and have a long weekend without having to make a return trip.

The convention space, classrooms, meeting areas and the programs are filling fast. Our room block has been reached, and increased not once but twice. The hotel is being very accommodating about giving us additional rooms at the original rate thus far. If you are coming it would be wise to get your name in the hat as soon as possible.

It is our job and responsibility to help and support the AAF, our fellow members and our friends to engage and remain a force in the industry.

Richard Moyers

President, AAF

To My Fellow AAF Members;

In case you haven’t heard, the AAF is hosting the 2022 Southeast Electronic Security Conference in Orlando Florida on March 9-11th at the Rosen Plaza Hotel.

This event is a not to be missed bittersweet special occasion event.

Our Executive Director of 20+ years, Mr. Robert (Bob) Neely is retiring.

We are hosting a tribute dinner on March 10th that includes a cocktail hour, full sit down dinner, and entertainment with a comic/magician DeWayne Hill.

You’ve asked for fresh new training in surveys that we’ve distributed. We’re here this year to provide that.

The show includes all the CEU credits you need for your required license renewal this year. But it’s not the same training you’ve always taken. We have three very special guest presenters who will provide timely and relevant information for growing and maintaining your business on a path for the future. Kirk MacDowell, Mitch Reitman, and Robert Few will be our guest speakers. No more direct wire training, or how to install foil, or listening to a sales presentation that was supposed to be electronic and security training. These experts will provide you this once in a lifetime free training. Others pay thousands of dollars to have them come to their company and grow their businesses.

The cost, no, the investment of your time and effort to come to this event is only $249. This includes meals, break refreshments, and a sit down dinner. If you are staying at the Rosen Plaza Hotel, your CEU credits are free. (If not there is an additional nominal charge to offset expenses of $150)

Let’s get down to brass tacks. The AAF needs your support. We have dozens of vendors that are supporting this event. But the success of this event and future events depends on each of you, own members, to support the show, support the vendors, and support the AAF.

During the unconventional general assembly meeting, you’ll also be advised on the progress the legislative committee has made to make your life easier, and those of your employees through our lobbying and bill writing processes.

And lastly, we will be holding an election of officers. In the past, you would have to be nominated by someone else to run for elected office. This year, we want you to express your own interest in becoming a leader on our board of directors. Let us know if you want to run for a regional or state board position. Only with the involvement of our members can the AAF continue to grow and thrive. Only through the growth of the AAF can we continue to provide you with the support with training, legislation, and networking that we all need.

Roy Pollack, Director At Large & Past President

2022 Convention Chairman
