The 10th Annual Corvette Show is Saturday, March 20, 2010, in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Since it appeared on the scene in 1953, the Corvette has likely garnered millions of whistles of appreciation. Yes, this famous Chevrolet model—coupe, convertible and T-top—holds bragging rights as one of the most admired vehicles on the road.

If you enjoy spotting one of these cherished cars on the road but at the same time feel disappointed that you only get a quick glimpse as it goes by, you will certainly want to attend the 10^th Annual Fun in the Sun Corvette Show along Main Street at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama.

The Lower Alabama Corvette Club will host more than 150 Corvettes from across the Southeast. Between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, you are invited to feast your eyes on these beauties of the automobile world, and even vote for the best car; the awards announcement will be made at 4:00 p.m.

Enjoy the live entertainment during the show, and before and afterward take time to explore the marina, restaurants, shopping and movie theater at The Wharf—and don’t forget to ride the Southeast’s largest Ferris wheel.

Admission is free. Should there be rain, the show will move into the parking garage—but at the time of this writing, the weekend forecast looks absolutely beautiful, so get out and enjoy the warm sunshine!

Replicas of two of Christopher Columbus' ships visit Gulf Shores March 10-15.

Replicas of the Nina and the Pinta—yes, two of the ships used by Christopher Columbus—will be docked at LuLu’s at Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores, Alabama, from March 10 through 14, along with a knowledgeable and passionate staff eager to answer questions.

The Nina, Columbus’ favorite of his three famous ships, exists in replica form as the only floating museum of its kind. The Pinta replica was built with a handful of modern amenities and is available for private parties and charters. Both are a type of ship called a caravel, which was commonly used as a trading vessel. And both were recently handcrafted using old-fashioned tools but without the benefit of an actual blueprint from their day.

Since February 2009, these two ships have been making their way around the U.S. After a short break for the crew and some time to make any needed repairs and adjustments, they are back on the seas and ready to delight crowds at a number of destinations throughout the country.

Plan now for your opportunity to learn about the ships, about Christopher Columbus, and about life during the Age of Discovery. Walk-aboard, self-guided tours are open from 9:00 to 5:00 each day. Sunday, March 7 brings the talents of three country music entertainers to Gulf Shores.

Accustomed to staged plays, musicals and revues, the audience that evening will be treated to a Grammy winner, a reality show star and a musical comedian—all thanks to special arrangements made by our own local 2008 Trop Rock Entertainer of the Year, Brent Burns.

The Grammy winner is none other than Linda Davis. She shared the award with Reba McEntire for Best Country Vocal Collaboration for their duet “Does He Love You?” that became a No. 1 hit. Linda is a popular song stylist who got her start in Nashville as a sought-after session singer.

Earning his big break as the first national champion of TNN’s You Can Be A Star, Lang Scott is an accomplished guitarist and vocalist. He is an MCA recording artist, and some of his songs have been recorded by well-known country stars.

Bill Whyte received the Country Music Association’s award for Best Large Market Personality during his career as a morning radio announcer. His songs are filled with lyrics that keep you laughing throughout his performance and after.
