End of summer work day August 10th (correction)

Please join us as we take down camp - Rake, sweep, carry canoes, take down tents. Many hands make light work, please join us on Saturday, August 10th.

The goal is to get enough people at Ajawah to help so that the camp will be ready for fall by afternoon on Saturday the 10th. Please contact Dave or Ted at Camp if you have any questions.

Camp Ajawah will be open from 8am - 5pm -- we are hoping for many volunteers to help get camp ready for the 2013 summer!

Please bring a rake, gloves, a friend or two, 3, 4.... bring a smile & bring something to share for lunch!

We will have hot dogs again, chips & fruit -- please bring a salad and/or something sweet to share with many others! :)

Volunteer Drivers Needed March 9th & 10th

Troop 100 will be distributing fruit on March 9th and 10th from the Scottish Rite Masonic Temple at Hennepin and Franklin in Minneapolis, 8am - 6pm.

If you come and help, we will assign you a Scout or two to do the delivering at the trailer in the parking lot. Call Dave Moore 612-922-4988 or just show up. Thanks so much!

Winter Fun Day March 2nd!

Bundle Up & Join In the FUN!!

Westminster Outdoors is sponsoring a Winter Fun Day at Camp Ajawah on Saturday March 2nd from 10am - 5pm. Get outdoors and celebrate winter. We'll have an icy blast playing broomball, ice skating, cross-country skiing, sledding, snowshoeing, and more.

Bring your own bag lunch, sleds, skates, and skis. Hot chocolate, cider, broomball brooms, and snowshoes are provided. A $5 donation to Camp Ajawah per adult is requested. Camp overnight in the Lodge or a tent if you wish.

Bakers Wanted!

Ajawah is calling all bakers and baker wannabes to whip up some sweet concoctions for the annual Camp Ajawah Bake Sale, to be held Sunday, February 10th at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1200 Marquette, from 8:30-noon.

Donations can be delivered to the church on Saturday February 9th before noon or early Sunday morning by 8:30 a.m. Please do not price baked goods. Packaging materials are available at the church if you want to deliver your treats in bulk.

For the past several years, the bake sale has averaged $2500 to be used for camp scholarships. A sweet success, yet less than 10% of the funds needed each year. Your baking skills are critical to replenish the 2013 campership fund!

If February 10th doesn't work for you, please consider a donation to the Ajawah Campership Fund through this link: www.givemn.org/ajawah. A full campership is $330, but every single dollar is appreciated!

Boy Scout Troop 100 needs drivers for our annual Fruit Sale delivery, March 19 and 20 at the Scottish Rite Temple on Hennepin and Franklin, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come any time. We will send you off with some fruit and a couple of Boy Scouts. All you have to do is drive. The Boy Scouts deliver the fruit and collect the money. Thanks for helping us. This helps us go to camp.

Troop 33 is hosting a reception to thank Dave Moore for his years of leadership.

Dave resigned as Troop 33 scoutmaster in January, but continues as scoutmaster of Troop 100 and director of Camp Ajawah.

The reception will be Saturday, May 1, 1-3pm at Westminster Church in the Heller commons and the Meisel room. Light refreshments will be served.

Bake Sale on Sunday February 14th, 2010

Come help with Camp Ajawah's Annual Bake Sale on Sunday 2/14/10 to help raise money for Summer of 2010 Camperships. We are looking for people to bring baked goods to Westminster on Saturday the 13th and Sunday the 14th, as well as volunteers to help package and sell the goods on Sunday morning. Baked goods can be dropped off at the church on Saturday until 1:30 or early Sunday morning. 80th Reunion Weekend

Camperships

Many of you probably saw Dave's letter regarding 2009 camperships in the recent Ajawah newsletter. The following note was enclosed with a very generous donation. Many thanks to Kathy and all who have responded.

Ajawah friends.

I read Dave Moore's letter and was deeply touched. I too was affected by Ajawah. It did not lead me to fame or fortune, but I developed some wonderful friendships and memories working as a counselor. I had the opportunity to attend a work day this year, after a twenty year absence. Even though I did not know a lot of people there, I left that day with a very happy feeling. Here is money for one kid to go to camp this year. I wish I could give more!

Rake Day was a huge success!

PER TOM HESS – UPDATE May 9 Work Day:

Every bathroom was thoroughly scrubbed and rust was removed from fixtures.
Latrines were power-washed and painted.
Tent platforms were leveled and repaired.
HQ was cleaned, including the fridge and stove.
The outdoor shower was power-washed and painted.
The kitchen and pantries were emptied, scrubbed by hand and with a floor-machine.
Screens were repaired.
The dumpster was removed from its enclosure, the concrete pad was power-washed, and the fence was stained.
Junk was removed from basements and put in the dumpster.
Floor tiles in the infirmary were replaced.
15 cubic yards of topsoil was delivered to the Flats, spread by hand, fertilized and seeded.
