Sundance/Slamdance just around the corner!

Lot’s of exciting things ahead this week and next that I wanted to update you all with. Proudly, I will bundle up and venture off on Thursday to Park City Utah, where I will be submersed in Film heaven! I’m so excited to see my movie “Cumming’s Farm” for the the first time at Slamdance Festival. It will be awesome to reunite with my talented cast members I had the pleasure of working with, Laura Silverman, Ted Beck, Adam Busch, Jordan Kessler,and Yasmine Kittles, all together, we made up one fun ensemble cast! I will also get to enjoy the Sundance Festivities that occur at the same time. This will be my first time to Sundance so I’m out of control excited!!! I will try and take as many photos as possible to share the experience with you all.
On the 27th of January, I will be guest singing with one of LA’s most treasured bands “Madras”. It will truly be an honor to share the stage with amazing musicians and artists, such as Ryan Brown, Marc Thomas, and Dan Luperini.
Then, I will be singing in another variety type show on the 30th, with more incredible talents! Not to mention, I have been hard at work writing, and forming new music to share with all of you! This month has presented many, many blessings to me, as well as to so many of my friends. I couldn’t be happier for all of you.
2010 has most definitely started off with a BANG! I can’t wait for what’s to come!

A “Boxing Day” Update.

What a year 2009 has has been! As it comes to a close and 2010 awaits us, just around the corner, I can’t help but think back at how thankful I am.

Highlights of 2009 included the opportunity to act beside one of my favorites (Christian Slater) in “The Forgotten”; truly a surreal moment for me. As was finally getting to see the beauty that is Hawai’i!

The film I did “Cummings Farm” premiered at the New Orleans film festival, then made its rounds at the Austin Film Fest. Most recently, it was just accepted to the SLAMDANCE film festival, which happens in Park City, Utah alongside SUNDANCE. Out of 5,000 submissions,only 18 films were chosen, and “Cummings Farm” is one of them! I have never been to Sundance yet, So I am super excited to head there in January.

Music has started to leak back in my life, which I am so happy for. I have a few acoustic shows lined up for the new year, and am so excited about getting back on the stage.

Although, 2009 had its struggles, I think it was a wonderful year for planting many seeds that will bloom, and flourish in the upcoming months and I can’t wait!
I hope everyone had a safe and magical holiday season, remembering how lucky we all are to get to live our dreams and make things happen.

With that said, I leave you with a little “Boxing Day” Treat – a song I wrote a few years ago with my old band “The Charles Shaw Project” on Boxing Day! It was originally called “Queensbury Rules” which is a code of rules generally accepted in boxing, but we changed the title to make it simpler. I love this song because it reminds me however bad things may get, or how many times we fall….you just gotta get back up.

Michael Jackson seen hopping out of the Coroner’s Van??

In the wake of today’s news, calling the death of Michael Jackson a Homicide, this video showing a supposed MJ hopping out of the coroner’s van with a license plate matching the van that took him away from his home, after it parks behind a chain link gate, has suddenly gone viral:

It looks pretty grainy to me. Knowing how people like to believe that Elvis, and Tupac, still live, it could be one of those type of hoaxes. I’d love to hear what YOU think!

Aloha Everyone!

I’ve been neglecting my blog writing due to WAY too much excitement this summer. So I figured while I have a moment I can AT LEAST fill you in thus far. I went to Toronto and attended a wedding of two dear friends; it was so great to see two people, so very enthusiastic about their love. Inspiring and beautiful can not even come close to what I witnessed that day. I am so happy for them!

Shortly after my Toronto visit I set off to visit my family in Cape Cod for the 4th. That is ALWAYS a crazy, fun adventure. I had not spent the 4th at home in a LONG TIME. I’ll tell ya, there is nothing better than sitting on a Patio in the middle of the woods with your crazy sisters laughing till one of babies wakes up. <3

From there, I went to Stamford Connecticut, I was invited by a wonderful woman Jane Eastwood to be a Guest Judge and perform at the TALENT AMERICA finals. I jumped at the opportunity, not only because of my secret obsession with those talent reality shows, but I use to be in the competition when I was little! TA is where I got my very first agent and the bug of performing bit me harder than any mosquito did this summer.

It was SUCH a cool experience meeting all the kids that weekend, and their parents. All the supportive moms and dads that were there, really touched my heart. Not to mention, THE KIDS ROCKED! SO much passion…it knocked me off my seat.

When the competition ended I kissed my momma goodbye and hurried back to LA, Where I was whisked away to a place I have wanted to visit my WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE!!

HAWAII! Ya I said it. haha. Hawai’i was soooo breathtakingly beautiful and everything I ever dreamed it would be.

Bonus was I got to visit the set of a new Indie movie being shot called “ONE KINE DAY” look it up on HERE

The cast of this movie are all incredibly talented. Everyone who sees the finished product is in for a real treat. I got great news while splashing around, snorkeling, and indulging in Poke and shave ice. The news was, I had to come back to do re-shoots on the Pilot I shot, “The Forgotten”

My part has changed slightly but I think you will all find it quite as awesome as I do when it airs SEPTEMBER 22 at 10pm on ABC! EEEK!

So excited!!!

Shooting that was by far one of the funnest shoots I’ve done. I got to work with Christian Slater, who is a total babe ( I mean, that’s a given – he’s Christian Slater.

What I was most impressed with was his down-to-earth demeanor and open heart he had to every single person he came in contact with. Also, may I add an actor’s dream as a scene mate. He made it really easy for everyone…so easy, there was times I felt the need to pinch myself! Not because I was starstruck, but because I felt like I belonged and I loved it!!!!

So that pretty much brings us up to now! Just finished ADR for the movie “Cumming’s Farm”. It’s going to be a really hilarious movie, starring moi, and the amazingly talented Laura Silverman, and Adam Busch. Just a terrific ensemble cast so be on the lookout!

I love Monday’s!(well, this week at least)

Hola kiddles.

This past week has been awesome! (and it’s only Monday!) I found out I booked a KFC commercial, which I will shoot on Wednesday. It’s a really fun spot, and I feel so blessed to have gotten chosen. I will try and sneek a few photos from my blackberry on set and post them:)

Also, in amazing news, I found out last night, the pilot I just shot got picked up by ABC! This is sooo awesome to me!!! I feel so honored to have gotten the chance to work with the actors I worked with on this shoot. They were all equally wonderful, and easy to work with. Not to mention DANNY CANNON was the director! He’s GREAT! The DP was also incredible, Dave Stockton. He was kind enough to show me some stills from the episode, and described his vision in lighting it perfectly and such. Everyone who worked on this seemed to be true artists. Which is so very refreshing.

Today, one of my dearest friends was going to take me see NO DOUBT perform on ELLEN.

If you know our back story, you will know how very obsessed(not in a creepy way) we are of Gwen and No Doubt. So you can imagine our excitement when we had the chance to see them perform on ELLEN!!

So anyway, the day started out with a minor road block, I had to be in Culver City at 11am for a fitting, and we had to be at Ellen by 1pm. I got done with my fitting at 1245! and had to ninja style race to Glendale to meet up with my girl.(20 mins in LA traffic…damn I’m good)

We still were going to try and make it.

We got there, and the line was astronomical. It was 85 degrees in the shade, and we found out we would be waiting in line till 4pm.

Now, on an average day this would be fine. It would be an adventure! But, this was no average day. See, my dear friend is basically 10 months pregnant! hahaha. Yet, she was willing to brave the elements to follow through with our said mission.

I couldn’t have it. There was no way! What if she dehydrated or the sun cooked her belly so hot that she had the baby in line! I told her it wasn’t a good idea. So instead, we went to her work,(where she is on maternity leave) and showed up to see the artist that was visiting that day. (she works at universal music) .Well that “artist” happened to be the band, THE SOUNDS!! AHHHHH!!! even better!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE “The Sounds”!! I have for years, and only got close enough as to front row at a concert.

So,I got to meet the whole band, and hang with Maja Ivarsson!!! She is so rad. So, down to earth. It was def. a cool moment.

Then we got pedicures and called it a day.

That is why I’d say overall this week has been amazing so far.

How lucky to be living in a place where opportunities like that can just pop up on a whim! I have to keep reminding myself to never take a day for granted. Even if it seems like nothing is right, there will always be tomorrow to make it better.

No matter where you are really, if it seems gloomy, and you feel helpless and lost, you just gotta find a way to Make your Own Sunshine.

Luckily for those of us in Sunny Cali…it’s not that hard a task.

Headin EAST

Well, in just a few short hours I will be embarking on my first flight aboard a Virgin America plane.

I’m quite excited, as I have heard raving reviews of “Wi-fi in the sky! ”

I just hope, being one who is not THAT easily amused, they have more to offer. A personal masseuse perhaps? Enough leg room to comfortably cocoon myself into a 5 hour slumber? Free drinks? We’ll see.

Regardless, I’m quite thrilled to step foot again on my native land. Plant my feet in solid life again, and get my fix. It has been FAR too long since my last visit, and this reunion will not only be sweet, but very much needed.

I’ll be sure to wear my surgical gloves on the plane and not pick my nose.

I hear there is a crazy virus going round’.

A glimpse of my visit to NAB09

I have to let you in a secret.

I have no idea how to blog.

I wouldn’t consider myself to be exactly “eloquent” when it comes to anything technological. At least that is what I think I learned when I attended the NAB conference in LasVegas this past weekend. People think, you are going to Vegas and going to gamble and drink your life away, hit a nudie bar, maybe? No. If I was sleep deprived, it was because of the massive amounts of information that became indelibly planted in my head.

By the end of the week it felt like my very core was shaking from information overload; I attended the conference last year with no idea of what it would be like or what to expect. I traveled around the epic show floor and learned that the broadcast media as we knew it was in a “crisis”. To be candid, it seemed to me that the “big wigs” were shitting bricks. I left with a sack or two full of shwag – pens, bags, papers galore, even *gasp* a speeding ticket.

Don’t get me wrong, I left with grip of knowledge that to an untrained “tech-spert” (ohhh I just made up a cool new word) was pretty darn new and intense. Had I known that the information I gleaned then would incubate and expand, I would have signed up for the NAB convention a long time ago. Alas, I was sort of what one would call a Newb.

FAST-FORWARD to NAB 2009

The year prior afforded me an introduction to Twitter (before Y’all!!!) starting or at least trying to start my own blog, co-hosting Keramcast, learning about widgets and Google Adsense and Analytics, discovering the procedures behind marketing blogs and websites. So, when I got the opportunity re-attend NAB this year with a fresh new outlook, I jumped at the chance. This year was especially cool for me because I was able to attend as “Media.”

If you are interested in getting into NAB all you have to do really is register on their site for the Exhibition Floor and you are promptly sent a package with a badge and other info. This badge allows you to look around the massive show floor spanning 4 convention halls the length of two or even three football fields apiece, and check out free panels discussions in the Content Theater.

Little did we know until we arrived that our Media badge allowed us to attend EVERYTHING. Classes, and informative mind-blowing seminars. Cocktail parties, and luncheons. We attended a lunch where Kelsey Grammer was given an award, along with the legendary Bob Newhart, who was given a lifetime achievement award.

Going to NAB with this kind of access is a gift that keeps on giving. I was determined to take full advantage of this opportunity, and even if I didn’t quite understand some things, I know the information is now logged and I can begin to unravel that data over the coming years.

Besides the information I took away with me, I realized, as I got on the plane exhausted from the prior seven days, that the world is in such an intense state of change. I feel like now more than ever there are so many opportunities for people to create, innovate, and ultimately make it a better place. All around us we hear about economic, and global crisis and that is all true, but the positive thing I got out of it is that there is no better time than now for people like you and I to be pioneers; to emerge out of the chaos and create something amazing!

It’s all within anyone’s grasp - we just gotta keep up with speed of light we are flying on, think out of the box, start using our imaginations again and really, change the world. They are already doing that at NAB, and I feel so blessed to have been a part of it.

So now, with more confidence, a lot more exposure to the nature and velocity of the new media for which we are on the forefront, I can say, with greater assurance that I am a little closer to seeing it and “getting it.” To not being “left behind” but instead have something to offer when I say “follow me on Twitter“
