Uzbekistan, Belgium discuss boosting cooperation

The fourth round of the Uzbek-Belgian ministerial political consultations was held in Tashkent on Wednesday, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

During the political consultations both sides discussed the development of bilateral relations across the spectrum of cooperation and exchanged views on the status and developments in the region and the world.

The parties stressed that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, significant positive experience of cooperation has been accumulated by collaborative efforts, as well as a sound legal base of cooperation established. The further development of the Uzbek-Belgian dialogue equally meets the interests of both sides.

It was also stressed that the trade, economic and investment areas are considered in Uzbekistan and Belgium as one of the key components of cooperation. Parties support the implementation of joint projects in such sectors as textiles, carpet, food, pharmaceutical, petrochemical, electrical, industrial, processing of agricultural products, as well as tourism.

Uzbekistan plans to attract South Korean company to implement projects in coal industry

Uzbekistan plans to attract South Korean Posco company to implement the projects in the Uzbek coal industry, a source in Uzbekenergo told Trend on Wednesday.

The interlocutor of the agency said that the possibility of implementing the joint projects in the Uzbek coal industry was discussed with Posco president Chung Jung Young during Uzbek President Islam Karimov’s recent visit to South Korea.

In particular, the Korean company was proposed to consider the participation in the modernization of “Apartak” mine in Angren brown coal deposit (Tashkent region).

China imports Uzbekistan gas via pipeline for first time in August

China started importing gas from Uzbekistan via pipeline last month, adding to significant volumes it already receives from Turkmenistan, customs data released Saturday showed.

China imported 1,441 mt equivalent (70,197 Mcf) of pipeline gas from Uzbekistan in August, valued at $687,095, the data showed. This would translate to a price of about $9.17/MMBtu, versus $10.22/MMBtu for Turkmen gas during the same month.

Uzbek Company Constructs Power Supply Facilities for Potash Fertiliser Plant

Uzbekenergo company started construction of new power supply facilities for Dehkanabad potash fertilizer plant (Kashkadarya region, south of Uzbekistan) worth $67.5 million, the company representative told Trend on Wednesday.

It was reported that two transformer substations with a capacity of 125,000 KW with two high-voltage lines each bearing 220 KV with a length of 74 kilometres and 110 KV with length of 32 kilometres are planned to be built to provide the Dehkanabad potash fertiliser plant with energy at Qashqadaryo Province in southern Uzbekistan.

China’s Harbin Power to modernize Angren CHPP in Uzbekistan

China’s Harbin Power Engineering Ltd. and Uzbekistan’s state-owned joint-stock company Uzbekenergo have signed a contract to modernize the Angren Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHPP) in the Tashkent region.

The contract, whose price has not been disclosed, was signed following a tender to select a general contractor for the modernization among Chinese companies, which was announced this year, the source said.

WB to Provide Uzbekistan with $40 Mln Loan to Support Agricultural Enterprises

World Bank Board approved the allocation to Uzbekistan of a loan of $ 40 million as additional financing for the second project to support agricultural enterprises.

“The project will help farmers increase productivity, improve their financial and environmental sustainability, and profitability of agricultural businesses,” the WB said on Wednesday.

Uzbekistan, Korea to discuss finance and taxation

Korean Finance Minister Bahk Jae Wan will pay an official visit to Uzbekistan on August 31, a government source told Trend today.
Bahk Jae Wan will hold talks with representatives of the Uzbek government, including First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Rustam Azimov.

Both parties will discuss issues of finance and taxation in the construction, energy, environment and labour market.
The total volume of the declared South Korean investments in the Uzbek economy is more than $5 billion, including a mastered $2 billion. In 2011, bilateral trade amounted to $1.6 billion. More than 350 companies with the South Korean capital operate in fields of light, chemical, food industries, commerce, engineering, metalwork, housing, health, tourism and services in Uzbekistan.

Mercedes-Benz supplies buses to Tashkent

German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has supplied 25 buses to Tashkent, the country’s administration told Trend on Friday.
The supply of buses is being carried out as a result of a purchase agreement signed between the Tashgortransservis Association and German EvoBus GmbH Mercedes-Benz (bus division of Daimler-Chrysler).
According to a representative of the city administration, a reception, transmission and presentation of the new Mercedes-Benz Conecto Low Floor model buses which have been built to the Euro-3 standard, was held the previous day.

Uzbekistan to begin electricity metering modernization in 2013

Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company in early 2013 will begin modernizing the metering system of electricity in the domestic sector of Uzbekistan, Uzbekenergo chairman Batyr Teshabaev said on Tuesday during an international seminar in Tashkent.

According to the Uzbekenergo, a project worth $802 million provides for introduction of an automated system for monitoring and metering of households in all twelve regions. The project will be implemented by the end of 2015.

Under the program, during three years it is planned to introduce a system of data recording, billing system, appropriate communication systems, as well as to install 4.5 million electricity meters at consumers in the 0.4 kV networks throughout the country.

Uzbekistan’s foreign trade surplus halves

Foreign trade surplus of Uzbekistan, according to the State Statistics Committee, in January-June 2012 almost halved compared with the same period last year – to $1.241.7 billion.

According to the committee, the foreign trade turnover of the country, according to preliminary data, in January – June 2012 increased by 6.6 percent – up to $13.088 billion, in particular export – by 1.1 per cent to $7.164.9 billion, import – by 14.1 percent, to $5.923.2 billion.

In the structure of Uzbekistan’s foreign trade share of non-CIS countries decreased to 53.1 percent compared with 59 percent a year earlier, the share of exports to these countries fell to 46.4 percent from 59.4 percent, the share of imports from them rose to 61.3 percent from 58.5 percent.
