This might not help traditional Flickr users but those who have hundreds or thousands of photos in their favorites might want to give it a try.

You first need to authorizes the app to access your Flickr account. Once done, select the destination where you want to download the photos, select the type of media you want to download, enter the minimum resolution of the downloaded photos, and select other options. Note that this app downloads original photos, this minimum dimension is just there to make sure that small photos are not downloaded.

But hey we are just talking about Photos, it can even download videos marked as favorites.

This is the first time I have heard about downloading photos and videos from Flickr Favorites, other tools do not offer this functionality at the time.

OkSampler is a music sampler developed on Adobe Air, thus, making it cross-platform. You need to simply drag & drop a mp3 file over any button, sounds can then be triggered via either keyboard or clicking the buttons.

The layout on the main windows shows the numerical keys on top and bottom while the rest of alphabets are shown in the middle. In short, it is made up of alphanumeric keys. Once you have copied all sounds, hit Save to save it. Clicking Rest will remove all sounds.

Hitting Drop-a-Loop button will start the sampler, clicking it again will stop it. It is not a professional tool, so don’t expect some high functionalities. Having said that, it seems to be quite handy for basic usage.

Let me elaborate. If the URL of any webcomic has numeric numbers then it is possible to download them. Suppose a web comic MegaTokyo, it uses numeric address such as, megatokyo.com/strip/1235.gif. Notice the number 1235 in the URL, this means that all comics images can be downloaded from this site.

Now start ComicsFetcher, enter the Base Image URL and the destination directory. You can either download the images by numbers or dates. The base image URL will become, megatokyo.com/strip/##.gif. Where ## represents any number. Hit Start to begin the process.

Since not all images could be in .gif format, go to File > Preferences and make sure the If not found try other formats option is checked as shown in the screenshot below.

It can also download the images which have dates in the URL. Make sure you have read the How To Use It manual before giving it a shot.

Luckily, today I came across Scan To PDF(STP). It is a free tool developed to convert paper documents to PDF files. And guess what? It is portable. It can convert PDF files from scanned documents and JPEG images, you can also mix JPEG images with scanned documents.

To begin, set up your scanner and hit Scan New Page. Choose from the list of scanner and hit OK. Now you will see the main interface which is much like any other scanner tools out there. Just select the type of scan you want and hit Preview, it will automatically select the portion for you. When you think all settings are ok, hit Scan.

Once the scan is complete you will see the image in the main window, you can scan new page and it will be added as next page. There is no limit on the number of documents you can scan.

Right-click the main window and you will find loads of options. Once all settings are done, hit Make PDF and the output will be saved in the same folder where the program is residing.

There are few other options, such as, selecting the JPEG Quality, Adding JPEG Images, and Inserting JPEG images. The scanned PDF documents can also be saved as JPEG images and later converted to PDF using the JPEG(s) To PDF option.

Most instructions in various blogs would go like this:

Click the Start menu, type msconfig and hit Enter. The System Configuration window will be loaded. Here click on the Boot tab and then click the Advanced options button.

This whole process is nothing but a myth, someone with no computer knowledge first wrote about it in 2007 and it has never died yet. Surprisingly some people are covering the above steps for Windows 7 too. Following the above steps can harm your system rather than speeding up the boot time. The fact is that your system uses the maximum number of  cores by default, so changing the values here would have no effect on your system boot time. Meet Cache My Work. It is a small handy utility which saves the complete session by caching various applications. Once you run the app, it will create a simple checklist of all running program, you can select the ones that you want to cache and hit Save.
