foursquare updates iPhone app to 1.7

One of my favorite iPhone apps, foursquare, was updated to version 1.7. The .1 update brings a fresh new look and feel, increased and more effiecient check-in and shout flow, places are now listed by category, better view of places youve visited and pull to refresh option. I already like the new home screen, places categories, and better display of your mayorships and badges. Im looking forward to going out and checking in with this update. I hope to see you around town.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (Airports Authority) has received your inquires concerning the Fairfax County Express Bus Service (Fairfax County Bus Service) in the Dulles Corridor.

Prior to the transfer of the Dulles Toll Road (Toll Road) to the Airports Authority, the Commonwealth of Virginia used a portion of toll road revenues to fund an annual grant to Fairfax County for the Fairfax County Bus Service. In June 2008, in anticipation of the upcoming transfer of the Toll Road, the Commonwealth informed Fairfax County that funding for the Fairfax County Bus Service would terminate beginning with the County’s fiscal year 2011(July 1, 2010.) This gave the County two years notice that they would not have the toll road revenues available to support the Fairfax County Bus Service.

We would defer to Fairfax County to explain their current plan for the Fairfax County Bus Service.

An Open Letter to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority

Dear Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority,

Why has the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority decided to discontinued their annual operating support for the Dulles Express Bus Service? Your decision to withdraw support will limit access to public transportation, specifically access to the West Falls Church Metro station. Your decision forces Fairfax County to eliminate bus routes that enable local residents to walk from their home and travel to the West Falls Church Metro station. Local residents will now be forced to drive to Wheile Park and Ride, which today fills up by 7:30 a.m. At a time of major road construction and rising levels of traffic, I do not understand what rationale could be used to eliminate funding for this vital service. Please reconsider your decision. I look forward to your response.

Updated: Which Google Chrome Extensions Are You Using?

I downloaded Google’s latest Chrome beta for Mac to test its extensions. I have a handful of extensions at work, for Windows XP, but wanted to test it out on my Mac at home. So far I installed Google’s Voice, Reader and Dictionary extensions as well as FlashBlock, Delicious Tools and Forecastfox Weather extensions. So far they work great and aren’t slowing the browser down at all. Extensions add a ton of functionality with little downside.

Which Google Chrome extensions are you using?

Updated: I didn’t realize I had different extensions at work. Here’s my list of extensions at work: Google Reader & Voice, Toodledo, Amazon, Forecastfox, StumbleUpon, and Digg.

Major Instapaper Pro iPhone Update

One of my favorite and most used iPhone apps, Instapaper Pro, was updated to version 2.2. What’s updated in this app is almost as important as what was removed. The Graphical mode was removed due to user feedback and a new improved unified faster text mode that includes in-article images for most sites. Also removed is the redownload button for articles that downloaded successfully. The list for what was added is pretty lengthy: in-app browser for opening links and graphical pages when online, pagination as an alternate scrolling method, dictionary lookups and Share options when text is selected, line-spacing and margin controls, scrollback option after tapping status bar and scrolling to top, partially-read indicators on articles in list, dimmed toolbar icons in dark mode, delete buttons for articles in Archive folder, rotation for article list and native login, registration. These additions are great. The ability to share highlighted text is very useful and practical and the ability to delete archived articles was a feature I was hoping would be added. There are also a few fixes: Tweetie URL handling, minor graphical bugs and overzealous help messages. It’s nice to see a developer, Marco Arment, to continually improve and listen to their users.

I Am T-Pain Update Enables Auto-Tune With iTunes Library

Smule’s I Am T-Pain iPhone app was updated to version 1.4, bringing several cool new features. The best new feature is the ability to use Auto-Tune with your existing iTunes library. I’m sorry Jay Z, announcing the death of Auto-Tune was premature! The update also includes the ability to listen to performances from all over the world as well as the announcement of new Freaknik edition songs are on their way.

Small BeejiveIM iPhone Update

Beejive updated their IM iPhone app, version 3.2.1, to fix a chat order problem for old chats and chat date progrm in chat logs. Meebo is giving BeejiveIM a run for its money. Meebo is simple and just works. While BeejiveIM has more features, it’s not as polished or as easy to use. Oh, and Meebo is free!
