On March 19th, the economic recovery committee held a congressional hearing that aired on the C-Span network. The forum led by Minority Whip, Eric Cantor, was held via online teleconference and focused on small business owners and their experiences in trying to receive loans in during this economic downturn. Congress was also interested in hearing about the participants’ concerns and predictions about the future. One of the small business owners chosen to participate was Mike Stevens of the Lubbock-based company, Action Printing.

Mr. Stevens shared his recent experiences in preparing to purchase a new printing press. “I’d also like to express my gratitude to the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and to Representative Randy Neugebauer for granting me this opportunity to express my views on the current condition of American small business,” said Mr. Stevens. “From my experiences, I strongly believe the proposed tax increases will stifle small businesses’ and in turn, America’s ability to reinvest in new property and future construction.”

The two Lubbock businesses will now compete as one of seven regional finalists, one of which will be named America’s Small Business of the Year.

Action and V-tech, which were nominated for the Sam’s Club sponsored-award in January by the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, were recognized for their “exemplary performance” in areas ranging from financial growth and investment in staff training to community involvement and customer service.

We’re proud to announce the newest member of our staff, Lonnie Cape.

Mr. Cape brings us nearly fifty years of valuable printing experience. He started his career working after high school as a stock boy in an office supply store in Littlefield, Texas. It was here he learned how to operate a letterpress and it was here that Mr. Cape’s fascination with and love of printing was ignited. He’s been involved in the printing business ever since.

Mr. Cape has worked in print shops all over Texas including Dallas, Fort Worth, and Lubbock. And during which he has performed about every task possible in the shop including the purchase of basic materials like paper and ink, the purchase of serious equipment like printers and die-cutters, estimating, pricing, and invoicing, graphic design, press and equipment operation, personnel training and management, and much more.

He has proven himself again and again to have a true commitment to excellent craftsmanship and exceptional customer service.

We are honored to have Mr. Cape as our new In-House Consultant at our growing company.

A graduate of Texas Tech, Jeff has an impressive track record with over five and a half years of sales experience – four of which were spent in the printing business. He spent two years employed at Dell Computers where he rapidly rose to the position of Senior Account Manager.

However, he has now returned to his first passion – printing – with valuable new knowledge of computers and workstation management.

Jeff has been consistently recognized for his excellence in customer service throughout his professional career and he’s an excellent addition to our growing team here at Action Printing

Maggie will be taking the place of Randy’s former Customer Service Representative (CSR), Tanya Sawyer, who has recently chosen to take her career in a different direction. We wish her the very best in her new endeavors.

We selected Maggie for her solid background in fast-paced business environments, excellent technical skills, strong history of exceptional customer service, and friendly, upbeat attitude.

Action Printing was commissioned by a mayoral candidate to assist in his campaign.

Mike Stevens, co-owner, started by creating a mailing list of potential voters from various backgrounds An online survey polled the identified sampling of voters on what issues mattered to them.

After the survey was done, the client was shown as behind by 23%. Action Printing responded by starting an aggressive 1-to-1 marketing campaign, targeting the on-the-fence voters with specific messaging about the issues that concerned them.

“We were able to flip the deficit and our candidate won with 55 percent of the vote,” Mike Stevens says.

This particular case serves as an excellent example of how Action Printing can make the most of your budget by helping you make smart, informed marketing decisions.

The local poll found that water, streets, and spending are the top issues that concern the citizens of Lubbock across all ethnic groups.

The survey also provided the opportunity for the residents to rate their quality of life in Lubbock in which 62% described as “good” or “very good” and 27% as “average” or “fair”.

Action Printing also found out which presidential candidates residents supported finding that 35% supported Senator Clinton, 27% supported Senator Obama and 16% supported Governor Huckabee, 60% supported Senator McCain with 8% split between Ron Paul and Alan Keys. 23% were undecided.
