Will bending the tire nipple cause the pressure gauge to read higher?

I have this hub cap that conceals the tire nipple. In order to get at it, I have to bend the nipple to one side to get around one of the spokes on the hub cap. Will this effect a pressure reading with a tire gauge? I have it pumped up to the appropriate pressure, but it still looks low. I can't take the hub cap off unless I take all the lugs off.

The gauge is a very accurate gauge but I had problems getting it to register pressure on some tires. I couldn't get it to read on some of my car tires, no matter what. Some reviewers have indicated they must press really hard to get a reading. One or two have suggested adding an O-ring. This got me thinking. I noticed the valve stem on the tires it wouldn't read were slightly shorter and narrower than the valve stems on the tires it would easily read. The black shaft on the gauge appears to function as a tire valve stem depressor which pushes in the stem thus releasing pressure to get a reading. Using a needle nose plier I pulled out the black shaft on the gauge. I also very slightly reduced the diameter of this shaft (it is hollow and rolled) to accommodate the slightly narrower stems on the Michelin tires. And wallah! Now the gauge easily reads all of my tires! Now that the shaft is moved out enough I can also release tire pressure to easily attain proper pressure if one over shoots.

The gauge is accurate and now, easy to use. I have not experienced any sealing issues either. At 12.99, this is an excellent purchase for maintaining proper tire pressure. Manufacturer's specifications are the problem but any customer can modify this cheap gauge to make it work. It's worth it!

Replacing the Batteries for the Back Light

The batteries that power the back light are housed in the tail section of the unit. The tail section of the unit is secured to the body by a small Phillips screw. Remove the screw and pull out the tail piece. Remove the button cells
using your thumb and forefinger. Replace with new A76 or Lr 44 batteries, noting the proper orientation or polarity. The plastic housing is marked with the appropriate + and - polarity that corresponds to the position of the coin cells.

This takes very accurate readings and seems built well. It is a little finicky in putting it on the valve without it leaking air though. Needs to be held perfectly still and firmly in place for 1 or 2 seconds before reading is given. I would definitely buy this model again though! I bought one for my brother already.

How do I remove rusted metal caps to add air to my tire?

Use this stuff called Rust Remover. There are a lot of Rust Remover To Remove Rust With No Scrubbing Or Wiping. Spray it on then let it set for a bit the use a pair of plyers or if the caps are hex heads use a wrench. Its best to first try tightening a litlle then then then braking it loose. after.

The vehicle manufacturer places a tire inflation placard in each vehicle that gives the proper tire inflation pressures for that vehicle. This placard is located on the drivers side door post or outer edge of the door, inside the fuel filler door, or on the inside of the glove box door (depending on the manufacturer).

Driving from Flagstaff to Tucson, barametric pressure decreases, altitude decreases, heat greatly increases. 20 miles from Tucson tire blows the tread - still holding pressure, went to tire guy, did pressure test - shot the gauge out of his hand (about 75 psi on both fron tires) any ideas on what happened - Tire guy said the only way to increase pressure was to physically aid air.

Accutire MS 4000 are inexpensive but as other people experience brought up, they suffer from an inadequate seal.

Older Analog Gauges have a good rubber seal on the inside that the Tire Pressure Gauge MS 4000 lacks.

As a matter of fact there's no rubber at all.

Because you are compressing plastic (the gauge) against metal (the tire air stem), you must apply it perfectly flush or air will get away, causing a reading hard to get.

For me, this represents the only thing wrong with this great tire gauge.

I have looked everywhere and haven't found a better digital gauge.

Accutire should have applied a effective rubber contact, only it's because rubber breaks faster than plastic, they would not have to concern about as many warranty returns.

HOW TO IMPROVE IT:

You need something like "rubber tape".

You find it online or you might be able to find it at your local hardware or electronics store.

I can suggest "3M Scotch linerless rubber splicing tape". It worked for me.

The thickness of the tape is important. I used .03 inch. (.761mm).

I would not go any thicker. Acquire something thinner whenever you are able to.

Do not make it any higher than the gauge's white airhole center nipple.

All you need to do:

cut it to the diameter of the inside of the gauge's mouth

cut out a small hole for the air hole

the inside hole should be more perfect than the outside

After doing this simple adjustment, my Tire Gauge represented approximately 4 times easier to use and gave perfect readings.

No more playing to get an air-tight check.

Once the rubber tape wears out, just replace with new rubber tape! Simple as that!

I extremely recommend changing the gauge before giving them away to someone you care.
