The Masdar Institute (http://www.masdar.ac.ae) is a private, not-for-profit, independent, research-driven institute developed with the support and cooperation of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The Institute offers Masters and PhD programs in science and engineering disciplines, with a focus on advanced energy and sustainable technologies. Its faculty is of the highest quality and the intent is to have the structure of its top administration similar to MIT's.

The Institute is located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Ph.D. students will have the chance to spend up to 1 year at MIT in Cambridge, MA, and will have a joint thesis committee consisting of Masdar Institute and MIT professors.

The applicant should give a list of up to three projects in order of interest.
Applicants must have earned a master degree or possess corresponding qualifications which could provide a basis for successfully completing a doctorate. It is necessary to have obtained an average grade of B or better in order to qualify.

The appointee must be able to work independently and as a member of a team, be creative and innovative. The research fellow must have a good command of both oral and written Norwegian and English.

It is a precondition for the scholarship that the research fellow is accepted into the doctoral program as a networking university and signs an agreement for the completion of the doctorate within the duration of the scholarship,

The research fellow will be admitted to the doctoral program at the University of Stavanger on an agreement to complete the doctorate within the duration of the scholarship.

The program will mainly be carried out at the University of Stavanger, apart from a period of study abroad at a recognized and relevant centre of research.
The research fellow is salaried according to the State Salary Code, l.pl 17.515, code 1017, LR 20, ltr 45, of NOK 355 600,- per annum.

The position provides for automatic membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, which guarantees favourable retirement benefits. Members may also apply for home investment loans at favourable interest rates.

Terms & Conditions

Scholar may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships, bursaries or university loans (except for one-time award or book prize).
Nanyang Scholar is required to maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 out of 5.0. Academic performance will be reviewed every semester.
Nanyang Scholar is required to stay for at least one year in a hall of residence during your course of study and participate in university campus life.
Nanyang Scholar is to undertake the role of Student Ambassador, or any other similar role, to represent the University as and when called upon.
The Scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of the University, the scholar’s progress or behaviour is deemed unsatisfactory.
If the scholar decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, the University reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.
Nanyang Scholar is required to attend all the Nanyang Scholars Programmes, i.e., Orientation, Award Ceremony and Leadership Training Programme, conducted by Office of Admissions and Financial Aid.

Scholarship scheme to benefit PhD students

Professor Sir Timothy O'Shea, Principal, has unveiled a scheme offering more than 110 new PhD scholarships.

The Principal's Career Development PhD Scholarships, a £6 million funding scheme, is open to UK, EU and overseas students taking research degrees in any field of study.

Close to 60 scholarships will be offered per year for students beginning their study over the next two academic years.

The scholarship scheme includes a package of career training that allows PhD students to simultaneously develop skills in research, and also in teaching, public engagement, or entrepreneurship.
Generous stipend

Each scholarship will cover the home rate of tuition fee as well as a stipend which will increase each year. In 2010-2011 the stipend will be £13,500; in 2011-2012 this will increase to £14,000; and in 2012-13 it will be £14,500.

Subject to satisfactory progress, the awards can cover the cost of studying at the University for up to three years.

Berdasarkan kesepakatan pimpinan fakultas dan pimpinan Universitas Gadjah Mada tentang beasiswa bagi calon mahasiswa berprestasi akademik unggul yang secara ekonomi tidak mampu untuk tahun 2010 ditetapkan hal-hal sebagai berikut:

1. Kepada calon mahasiswa baru berprestasi akademik unggul yang secara ekonomi tidak mampu, UGM memberikan akses pendaftaran seluasseluasnya dan menyediakan:

a) Beasiswa BIDIK MISI dari pemerintah c.q. Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi untuk sebanyak 500 orang (beasiswa SPP, BOP dan SPMA serta biaya hidup), b) Beasiswa Penelusuran Bibit Unggul Tidak Mampu (PBUTM) untuk sebanyak 300 orang (beasiswa SPP, BOP dan SPMA), dan

The Full-Time programme is designed to increase your management capability and develop your expertise in chosen areas. You begin by studying the business fundamentals that form the basis of management decision making in business. The next stage of the programme will increase your knowledge of management theory and how it applies to business organizations.
In the third stage you have to opportunity to develop your expertise in three chosen areas. Economics, Markets, Institutions
The program aims at dealing with issues in political economy, applied public economics, the functioning of industries and markets, the impact of macroeconomics on productivity and growth. A distinctive feature of the Ph.D. program is the integration of theoretical, technical, and practical expertise, aimed to educate highly qualified professionals, who analyze, plan, and manage concrete interventions of political economy. Theoretical methodologies and models are generated and tested, through the systematic investigation of the real world, with a distinctive focus on concrete observation of markets and their actors. At the end of the program, students are able to identify commonalities as well as distinctive characters of economies, markets, and industries.

Computer Science and Engineering
The doctoral program aims at preparing researchers and professionals with a wide knowledge about the foundations of informatics and about its applications to a variety of systems and disciplines, focusing on aspects of particular importance in the present context. The new version of informatics is changing the perspective of other disciplines and several aspects of common life, and is the target of very active research in the international scene.

Management and Development of Cultural Heritage Ph.D. in cooperation with Politecnico di Torino
The program trains both researchers and professionals, able to operate at the highest levels of management of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, in both public and private institutions. The program integrates concepts and methods from several domains (humanities, economics, law, information technologies, material sciences) in the analysis of cultural heritage and landscape. The program provides a consistent multidisciplinary path where students are provided with competencies which nowadays cannot be obtained but through particular self-training initiatives. The job market today has to rely on various professional figures - thus incurring conflicts and standstills in the decision-making process - or is forced to choose only one competence among all the needed ones. A distinctive feature of the program is the involvement of Ph.D. students in projects, both on local and international scale, so as to make them familiar with the complex management of cultural heritage and landscape.

Political Systems and Institutional Change
The Ph.D. in Political Systems and Institutional Change is a multidisciplinary course analysing, in a comparative perspective, institutions in their historical, political, sociological, economic and legal features. Special attention will be devoted to processes of institutional change. The Ph.D. aims at forming political analysts able to: plan and manage collaborative and integrated processes at the international level; analyse and assess policies and institutional settings at a supranational, national and regional level; confront the specific problems of countries in transition towards democracy and a market economy.

Duration: 3 years Language: Courses and seminars are held in English. Foreign Ph.D. students are required to attend an Italian Language and Culture Course.
Classes begin in March 2010.

Qualifications

You should hold a good undergraduate degree and have a track record of high academic achievement. Most of our students have a Masters degree but this is not a formal requirement.

Our students have a variety of academic backgrounds ranging from Accounting, Actuarial Science and Economics to Engineering, Finance, Management and Mathematics. We are looking for mature, highly motivated individuals with excellent analytical, problem solving and verbal skills.

Research proposal

Please provide details of your intended research proposal in support of your application. This is an important part of your application in which you outline up to 2 research directions you would like to pursue in your PhD.

Before preparing your proposal you should familiarize yourself with the research interests of Cass academics (Cass Experts) to make sure that your research is aligned with their expertise.

The research proposal should include an abstract, the research objectives, the proposed research methodology, a summary review of the relevant literature and current understanding or knowledge and an indication of how the proposed research will contribute to the discipline. You should also provide an outline
work plan for the period of research including consideration of approval of any research ethics implications. You are also asked to comment on why you wish to pursue this research and what you feel you will bring to it. The research proposal should be a maximum of 3 sides of A4.
In addition, if you wish to be considered for a University Studentship, you should provide a non-technical summary of your proposed research. This summary should be no more than 400 words.

Academic references

You will provide names and e-mails of two referees who know your work well and can comment on your aptitude for critical thinking and original research within a well-defined framework. We will contact the referees once you have submitted you application.

English language requirements

If English is not your first language you will be required to submit an official TOEFL or IELTS transcript as part of your application. In addition, we will monitor your English language skills throughout the admissions process.

At the initial stage of your application we will accept electronic copies of your official transcripts. If your application is successful we will require you to send us the original hard copies before a final offer of place is made.

ANNOUNCEMENT BRUNEI DARUSSALAM GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS TO FOREIGN STUDENTS TENABLE IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM FOR THE 2010/2011 ACADEMIC SESSION
With His Majesty's consent, the Government of Brunei Darussalam is offering annual scholarships under a special scholarship award scheme, commencing in 2010/2011 academic session.

Tenable in Brunei Darussalam, the aim of the Scholarship awards is to provide students, with the opportunity to study at Universiti Brunei Darussalam [UBD], Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali [UNISSA] and Institut Teknologi Brunei [ITB]. The academic year for UBD, UNISSA and ITB commences in July / August 2010.

1. ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be citizens of ASEAN, OIC, Commonwealth Member Countries and others and must be between the ages of 18 - 25 at the commencement of the academic session for which they are applying for
admission. However, under exceptional case, the age limit requirement may be waived for candidates who are applying for Masters and PhD Programmes.
The awards are NOT eligible to Brunei Permanent Residents and foreigners residing in Brunei Darussalam for more than three months. The Scholarship award is normally tenable according to the duration of the specific programme which is four years for an Honours First Degree or one to two years for a Master's Degree or three years for a Doctoral programme at UBD, UNISSA and ITB, two and a half years for HND at ITB on full-time basis.

TENURE OF SCHOLARSHIP
The Scholarship award is subject to the scholar maintaining satisfactory conduct and satisfactory progress in the scholar`s studies (this requires the scholar to maintain an active registration status by passing the prescribed semester examinations and obtaining the minimum course credit units).

3. TERMS OF AWARD
The scholarship covers

Tuition fees.
Air-tickets by economy class for which the scholar will only be provided on the following occasions:
from the scholar's home country to Brunei Darussalam at the commencement of the programme;
from Brunei Darussalam to the scholar's home country after the completion of the programme.
Free medical and dental treatment at any Government hospital subject to conditions stipulated by the Ministry of Health. However there will be administrative charges for every consultation (currently at B$3.00), admission to class A1, A2 and A3 wards and charges for certain dental treatment as stated in the schedule 1 Dental Treatment issued by the Ministry of Health. Other allowances payable will include:
Monthly personal allowance of B$500.00.
Annual Book Allowance of B$600.00.

4. PROGRAMME OFFERRED

Sosial dan tidak sombong, nah karena elu dah rajin membaca dan mencari. Sekarang bersosialisasi. banyak-banyak cari temen biar gak kuper (kurang pergaulan), kalau di indonesia ajah elu gak punya temen, masa berharap di jerman banyak temen. Dunia itu bulet, dihuni ama manusia juga. Gak banyak bedanya orang di jerman ama di Indonesia. Walaupun negara barat terkenal dengan orang-orang yang individualis, tetep ada keuntungan buat orang-orang yang mudah bergaul dan suka menolong (tanpa pamrih lho) selama orang itu gak ngurusin kehidupan orang lain (nge gosip atau sok ngatur).
Motivasi yang kuat, dah duit gak punya keinginan juga gak kuat. Gemana mau berubah nasib elu? nunggu hujan duit??? Motivasi elu ke jerman kudu kuat, kalau gak kuat bisa-bisa udah mundur pas baru mau ngajuain permohonan visa ke jerman. Gak usah ngayal kalau ke jerman bisa dapetin impian elu yang gak bisa elu dapetin di Indonesia. Cukup motivasi kalau elu akan sampe di jerman dengan usaha elu. (dimulai dengan no 1 – 4). Nah udah sampe di Jerman baru elu berusaha dan bermimpi lagi. Jangan mimpi yang dibanyakin, tapi usaha yang dikerasin. Mimpi juga perlu bertahap, bukan realitas yang dipaksa untuk sama ama mimpi, tapi usaha yang dibanyakin untuk ngejer mimpi.
Sedikit bicara banyak kerja, banyak cerita yang muluk-muluk tentang hidup di jerman. Pengalaman orang beda-beda coy. Kalau elu udah ngarep bisa ongkang-ongkang kaki dan hidup enak di jerman, lupain ajah deh. Dimana ajah kalau elu gak punya duit hidup elu lebih keras dari orang lain. Kalau cuma ngoceh doank mulut elu ajah yang tambah gede.
Kemampuan berbahasa Jerman,Elu mo ke jerman kan? yah belajar bahasa jerman mumpung elu punya waktu. Elu gak bisa ke jerman dengan modal bahasa inggris donk.
Sama ajah elu nonton film tapi cuma bisa baca judul film, gak menikmati filmnya. Banyak hal keren yang elu liat, tapi gak ada manfaatnya buat elu, karena elu gak ngerti bahasanya. Cuma bisa takjub.
Dosen gue ngasih kuliah dalam 2 bahasa, dalam bahasa jerman dia menjelaskan satu system selama 45 menit. lengkap dengan keterangan tentang sejarah, keuntungan dan proses sistem tersebut. Setelah itu dia ngejelasin pake bahasa Inggris cuma 10 menit, itu juga cuma terjemahan slide presenstasi dia.
Pengalaman guru yang paling baik untuk belajar, Jadi sarjana pengangguran? cari kerja sono. biar ngerasain gemana susahnya jadi budak . Di Amerika ada pengangguran yang coba nyari kerja. Dia terima cobain semua bidang pekerjaan. Pengalaman dia mencari dan mencoba berbagai jenis kerjaan dibuat jadi acara tv : 50 jobs in 50 states in 50 weeks. Apa ajah kek kerjaan elu, yang penting elu punya pengalaman kerja dan ada bukti kalau bisa kerja. Apapun pekerjaan elu, akan ada hasilnya buat diri elu sekarang dan masa depan. Lebih enak makan duit hasil keringet sendiri daripada makan duit beasiswa. Mau cari kerja part time di jerman ajah lebih bagus kalau punya pengalaman kerja.

Intinya bukan dunia yang harus berubah untuk elu, tapi elu kudu berubah dan berusaha untuk mendapatkan dunia. Dan ke Jerman gak akan membuat elu jadi sukses cuma ada kesempatan untuk membuat diri elu jadi lebih baik. Itu juga kalau elu mau usaha.

SUMPE INI BUKAN PENGALAMAN GUE, gue cuma merangkum usaha temen-temen gue yang bisa sampe ke jerman dengan modal pas-pas an. Gue cuma anak bodoh, pemalas yang kerjaannya jalan-jalan dan kaskusan ajah.

Tambahan : Jangan kebanyakan ngayal
Secara umum jalur untuk kuliah di Jerman :
SMA –> Belajar bahasa Jerman — > Studienkolleg — > Kuliah –> Lulus ? –> Baru dipikir mau kerja, sekolah lagi atau pulang.

Nah kalau baru lulus atau belum lulus sma jangan terlalu banyak ngabisin waktu untuk mikirin apa yang akan dikerjakan setelah lulus kuliah di jerman.
Hal penting yang sering dilupakaan adalah belajar bahasa Jerman dengan baik. setelah itu baru mencari dan mendaftar studienkolleg yang sesuai dengan jurusan kuliah yang akan diambil.

Sarjana –> Belajar bahasa Jerman — > mencari, mendaftar dan diterima di Program Master yang sesuai — > Kuliah –> Lulus? –> Baru dipikir mau kerja, sekolah lagi atau pulang.

Kalau elu dah sarjana (lulus s1) di Indonesia, bahasa jerman tetep penting. Seperti Tips Mendapatkan Beasiswa Luar Negeri Ke Jerman gue diatas, modal bahasa inggris ajah gak cukup. Walaupun program master elu dalam bahasa inggris, beberapa program master bahasa inggris mewajibkan mahasiswanya untuk lulus ujian bahasa jerman sebagai syarat untuk menulis Masterarbeit (thesis).

The project is related to exciting, major unsolved problems of solar physics such as coronal heating http://imagine. gsfc.nasa.gov/docs/ science/mysteries_l1/corona.html and solar flare dynamics. Type III radio bursts are believed to come from solar flare electrons that travel upwards, away from the Sun, on open magnetic field lines. The proposed work aims to fill the gap in understanding how the upwards moving electrons are accelerated and produce the observed radio emission. This will be achieved through kinetic-scale modelling of the phenomenon and numerical simulation results will be compared with radio and other wavelength observations. The project benefits from access to large-scale parallel 1000 core processor cluster via UKMHD consortium, while the radio data will be available via participation of QMUL in LOFAR-UK and SEPnet Astro consortia (http://astro.kent.ac.uk/ SEPNET/). The LOw Frequency ARray, LOFAR (http://www.lofar-uk.org/), is a next-generation software-driven telescope currently under construction in the Netherlands and UK. Dr David Tsiklauri, Senior Lecturer at Astronomy Unit, QMUL will be the PhD project supervisor, while Dr Aris Karastergiou, Astrophysics, Oxford University, will act in a co-supervisory capacity. The Ph.D. in Political Systems and Institutional Change is a multidisciplinary course analysing, in a comparative perspective, institutions in their historical, political, sociological, economic and legal features. The Ph.D. aims at forming political analysts able to: plan and manage collaborative and integrated processes at the international level; analyse and assess policies and institutional settings at a supranational, national and regional level; confront the specific problems of countries in transition towards democracy and a market economy.

Management and Development of Cultural Heritage Ph.D. in cooperation with Politecnico di Torino

The program trains both researchers and professionals, able to operate at the highest levels of management of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, in both public and private institutions. The program integrates concepts and methods from several domains (humanities, economics, law, information technologies, material sciences) in the analysis of cultural heritage and landscape. The program provides a consistent multidisciplinary path where students are provided with competencies which nowadays cannot be obtained but through particular self-training initiatives. The job market today has to rely on various professional figures - thus incurring conflicts and standstills in the decision-making process - or is forced to choose only one competence among all the needed ones. A distinctive feature of the program is the involvement of Ph.D. students in projects, both on local and international scale, so as to make them familiar with the complex management of cultural heritage and landscape.

Economics, Markets, Institutions

The program aims at dealing with issues in political economy, applied public economics, the functioning of industries and markets, the impact of macroeconomics on productivity and growth. A distinctive feature of the Ph.D. program is the integration of theoretical, technical, and practical expertise, aimed to educate highly qualified professionals, who analyze, plan, and manage concrete interventions of political economy. Theoretical methodologies and models are generated and tested, through the systematic investigation of the real world, with a distinctive focus on concrete observation of markets and their actors. At the end of the program, students are able to identify commonalities as well as distinctive characters of economies, markets, and industries.

Computer Science and Engineering

The doctoral program aims at preparing researchers and professionals with a wide knowledge about the foundations of informatics and about its applications to a variety of systems and disciplines, focusing on aspects of particular importance in the present context. The new version of informatics is changing the perspective of other disciplines and several aspects of common life, and is the target of very active research in the international scene. Duration: 3 years Language: Courses and seminars are held in English. Foreign Ph.D. students are required to attend an Italian Language and Culture Course. Classes begin in March 2010.

The research group of Prof. Peter Güntert at the Institute of Biophysical Chemistry of the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main invites applications for Ph.D. and postdoctoral positions in Hyper-dimensional NMR spectroscopy for automated protein structure determination.

The positions are funded for three years by a research grant of the DFG (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft). The research project involves the development of automated multidimensional NMR methodology and its application to structural studies of proteins. The positions are located in the Center for Biomolecular Magnetic Resonance (BMRZ) of the University of Frankfurt, which is equipped with 13 state-of-the-art NMR spectrometers (400-950 MHz) and excellent computing facilities.

The successful candidate must have a M.Sc. or equivalent or Ph.D. degree in a relevant field of science, excellent programming skills in higher programming languages, and experience in biomolecular NMR.

Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme http://cerg1.ugc.edu.hk/hkpfs/index.html Established in 2009 by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme aims to attract the outstanding students in the world to pursue their PhD degree programmes in Hong Kong's institutions. The Fellowship provides a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for a maximum period of three years. 135 PhD Fellowships will be awarded for the 2010/11 academic year1. Competitions for admission are open in the following Ph.D. Programs at IMT: Computer Science and Engineering The doctoral program aims at preparing researchers and professionals with a wide knowledge about the foundations of informatics and about its applications to a variety of systems and disciplines, focusing on aspects of particular importance in the present context. The new version of informatics is changing the perspective of other disciplines and several aspects of common life, and is the target of very active research in the international scene. Economics, Markets, Institutions The program aims at dealing with issues in political economy, applied public economics, the functioning of industries and markets, the impact of macroeconomics on productivity and growth. A distinctive feature of the Ph.D. program is the integration of theoretical, technical, and practical expertise, aimed to educate highly qualified professionals, who analyze, plan, and manage concrete interventions of political economy. Theoretical methodologies and models are generated and tested, through the systematic investigation of the real world, with a distinctive focus on concrete observation of markets and their actors. At the end of the program, students are able to identify commonalities as well as distinctive characters of economies, markets, and industries. Management and Development of Cultural Heritage Ph.D. in cooperation with Politecnico di Torino The program trains both researchers and professionals, able to operate at the highest levels of management of Cultural Heritage and Landscape, in both public and private institutions. The program integrates concepts and methods from several domains (humanities, economics, law, information technologies, material sciences) in the analysis of cultural heritage and landscape. The program provides a consistent multidisciplinary path where students are provided with competencies which nowadays cannot be obtained but through particular self-training initiatives. The job market today has to rely on various professional figures - thus incurring conflicts and standstills in the decision-making process - or is forced to choose only one competence among all the needed ones. A distinctive feature of the program is the involvement of Ph.D. students in projects, both on local and international scale, so as to make them familiar with the complex management of cultural heritage and landscape. Political Systems and Institutional Change The Ph.D. in Political Systems and Institutional Change is a multidisciplinary course analysing, in a comparative perspective, institutions in their historical, political, sociological, economic and legal features. Special attention will be devoted to processes of institutional change. The Ph.D. aims at forming political analysts able to: plan and manage collaborative and integrated processes at the international level; analyse and assess policies and institutional settings at a supranational, national and regional level; confront the specific problems of countries in transition towards democracy and a market economy. Duration: 3 years Language: Courses and seminars are held in English. Foreign Ph.D. students are required to attend an Italian Language and Culture Course. Classes begin in March 2010.
