Ninja Chic: Ohne Titel RTW F/W 10-11.

Everybody was kung fu fighting. Yeah, maybe funny title but it's all the opposite from the beautiful collection Ohne Titel presented a couple of days ago for New York Fashion Week F/W 10-11. It's not always about feather and fur during the colder months. It definitely is not about hiding that sense of liberty and personal style and it definitely is not about hiding yourself from the world. That is the clear message delivered by Flora Gill and Alexa Adams. With a strong palette of outfits ranging from black to green, gray and cream, this collection came with a solid statement of a woman in control. The collection as a whole is rather simplistic as it takes no risks with plunging cleavage or out of the ordinary contour. What it does instead is play with texture and movement. With an inclusion of leather throughout the pieces, each outfit gets a touch of elegance, a modern type of elegance that is. At the same time, there is the use of asymmetry as textures is draped on the cocktail dresses and falls down slightly in an almost silky way. At the same time, the trousers fall similarly creating for a versatile look and not almost liberating one as well. And the sudden emphasis on army green simply leads us to follow that thread of the army chic look. What is most lovable about this collection is the fact that all designs remain their femininity as waistlines are clearly emphasized and legs are catered to as well through otherwise than mentioned before fitted trousers and a set of leggings that elongate the legs with black straps that curve across vertically creating a final elegant touch to the collection. There is indeed a sense of androgynous nature as the power suits do give a sort of a ninja look but again, it's the use of leathered belts and fitted material keep it chic and simple. Ninja chic. I guess we just created a new term just as Ohne Titel surprised us with something delightful and new.

A mixed butterfly and an in demand one as well. From the curls to her long lean body, Nastasia Ohl has proven her amount of talent having laready walked for shows like Chanel Haute Couture F/W 09, walking exclusively for Calvin Klein S/S 10 and recently Marc Jacobs F/W 10-11. There is no doubt in our minds that this modern and more exotic version of goldie locks will make her impression last a lifetime.

There's a monster in the closet! No, it's under the bed! Or was it waiting outside the window? As children, we are terrified by that malevolent creature lurking in the dark waiting to make its move. A constant fear that came upon as soon as the lights were switched off and silence took over. Yet we grow up and we find out that there was no monster to be found and that we were safe and sound. Or are we? On a darkly satirical twist, Zoo Magazine presents us with a new way of thinking. Is that monster really gone or is it laying in the bed, driving down the street or walking about everyday. Perhaps that monster lives inside us and comes out from time to time, claiming power and creating fear. A self-evident truth and it's part of all of us. This story is a showcasing of just that. Something always present at some place and time. This is "Daily Terror".

In an odd kind of way, this editorial is incredibly romantic as it acts as an ode to that ominous state of being. Through a simple setting on a simple scenario, the mood is set. Although it floats together romantically, the overall theme is obscure but not in a harsh or frightful way. After all, it's that subtle, almost silent terror that keeps everyone on their toes. Dancian Photography manages to capture a silent vibration. Through each shot, the repressed dark side is watching, plunging upon, staring through and waiting to take over and it's when it does that we acquire a sort of stand-off attitude that creates fear in others. This time through the unique faces ofMeghan Collison, Valerija Kelava both @ NEXT and Darryl Sharp @ D1 Model Management, this stand-off attitude comes to life as each and everyone piece up together a puzzle symbolizing that contained feeling, state of being and state of mind.

The importance of leather is underrated. Some may see it as a biker gang must-have, others as a queer item and some as no more than a trend. The truth is that through ages, leather has been an item of power. No matter social or economic status, nothing bears the sign of control and dominance as leather. It is therefore no surprise that fashion editor Sarah Bachs chose pieces from this material. There is no doubt that leather pants are a trend yet in this story, they are ignored. Going for bolder and rougher chaps from Maison Martin Margiela, a more revealing side is shown as well as a chance to play on textures and play off that military/tribal vibe that has been seen lately on runways for Balenciaga or Balmain to name a few. Yet to call this an all-leather editorial would be an understated as it does not even tell half the story. There is no doubt that Alexander McQueen and Ann Demeulemeester create designs that are not afraid of being different and cross that extra mile. Through desirability and almost raw sensuality, these pieces expose that dark side as it not only plays on one level but several such as flesh and desire. It's indeed a bit comical the way these designs trap the model's attitude and repress the apparent obscure outburst as the leather straps intercross and contour the body.

In a similar and ultimately quite unique choice, harnesses are used to show that raw feeling

discussed earlier. Chains, rings and even a gold skeleton show that certain fragility of the small objects as they seem so delicate yet they show a sense of strength as they bear endurability and endurance. It's symbolic of that strength that is a part of human nature and that tries to keep its own frightful side occult. Or at least camouflaged. It's therefore intriguing that camouflage and an overall military tone were included in the story as strength and fear play such a big role in such a life. There is no doubt that in war, there is an overall sense of daily terror and obscurity yet it's these men and women of bodysuits that have the endurance to go on. Many may seem a military texture and influence on nowadays design as tacky but it's a simple symbol of confidence and self-security. Equally, the editorial bears that sense of pride and strength through the patterns and military accessories as well as a sense of toughness. Yet it's not the only factor in determining power as it is clearly given by the Givenchy dress shown below. It might not be a translation from the army yet it does play on the colors and adds a mystic feeling to the look. The print and texture seems so delicate and fragile yet so full of secrets. A night butterfly deceiving its way through the dark.

Maybe to the plain eye, this is a skinheads guide to life or an exhibit of punk but that's just true to a naked eye. Paying attention to detail is what can go the mile and some more. The use of simple accessories such as golden studs on those plaid men's Givenchy shorts, the Judy Blamepin necklace, the vintage bullet belt or the medals make an outfit that tells a story. A way of expression. No words, no talk, just expression playing on that silent terror idea and doing so well.

Presence, deception and strike. Valerija Kelava, Darryl Sharp and Meghan Collison. Synonymous? Probably not. Still, on this story they all play their role complementing the theme through body expression and ultimately their different yet similar looks. Valerija has such a strong stance that is simply undeniable. Sharp, defined face structure, piercing eyes and that pitch black hair. She doesn't need to say much to show her dominance. This is how she shows presence. Intimidating presence that takes charge and takes her own. Each shot of her invokes such mystery and intrigue that draws the viewer inevitably in and catches on. Then it's too late. On a 180 degree turn is Darryl Sharp. Almost that kid next door that one grew up with. Just a normal guy living a normal life. However, the question imposed here through Darryl is that one that asks, what is normality? Is normality safe? That is indeed the scariest part. That one where the discovery that the same next door kid is not as normal as it seems. It's first hand deception. With an amicable grin and expression, Darryl portrays that masked persona and shows that behind a seemingly simple attitude and stare, a whole other story goes untold.

No matter this, deception and presence are only a warning. An alert of that to come. The worse part of terror is undoubtedly the anticipation. The wait before the predator takes its prey. As a veteran in the fashion world although still not reached the peak of her career, Meghan Collisontakes the role as head predator ready to strike and go in for the kill. There is such a dynamic nature to her from shot to shot as her body is in motion and is on the plunge. Even when not staring through, there is a sense of strength that shines on. A strength and agility that makes her seem as swift as a leopard. That same leopard is owner of elegance that can easily be attributed to Meghan as well. With a sharp and delicate face structure, Meghan has so much poise that even on her still shots, she seems like she is ready to take over. The versatility she possesses is quite unique as there is a regality throughout her shots as well as an intimidating toughness. It is in your face but not rudely. Fearlessly in your face.

Some may say fear is not necessary and it's a waste of time but nobody can expect to master inner or outer strength without being able to control fear. And just like love, respect and joy, fear is an emotion. Everybody has to face their emotions from time to time and really understand what this means. And in some way, Zoo Magazine managed to portray that message through. As mentioned, some may see it as a simple set of shots. Pretty? Maybe. Tough? Perhaps also as well. Yet it's that look into the beyond that helps us understand that whole meaning of human nature and put us back into that state of childhood. Are we really safe?Let that be a question answered another time.

Colors of the Wind: Valentino Haute Couture SS10.

Balenciaga, Emanuel Ungaro, Rodarte. Many of the names this collection has received by a general public. Our judgement: A leap of faith. There is some truth in that this collection goes a bit more far out than previous ones from designers Maria Grazia Churi and Pier Paolo Piccialiyet there are some clear connections to them as well. The creative and innovative use of sheer was used in dresses just like the previous ready-to-wear season. This time, Valentino goes the extra mile by incorporating this idea into body suits, coats and pants. The idea of semi-transparent pants is quite fascinating as it easily creates for a more formal wear and at the same time staying truthful to its new updated, youthful look. Ribbons and laces flow through the show as the models cross through the catwalk as colorful fairies. It is the use of color and asymmetrical designs that is the eye-opener here. There is such an unexpected feeling of vibrancy and liveliness as bright colors make a splash creating shapes suited for a view from eden. The créme de la créme and s always, is Valentino shoes as they always make their impression. This time, the laced booties cross and intercross each other making their way upwards to end up on an elegant bow creating a delicate silk-like feeling throughout. Yet the best part out of this creation is the color difference between the shoe platform and the laces. It not only makes for an instant "attention-grabbing" and elegantly commanding piece but it´s also innovative and fashion forward in regards to their latest Valentino collections. It's this forward way of thinking that allows the customers to understand that as times change so does Valentino, which is key in this time of competition and bankruptcies in the fashion industry. Sometimes a bit of regroup and reinvention is key to merchandising and attracting new audiences willing to keep that Valentino fire alive. And even if there was one red leather piece that confused the audience with its presence in contrast to all others, there is no doubt that this Haute Couture collection was made with an ingenious set of ideas and detailed craftmanship that is bound to pay its dues. New times have indeed arrived at Valentino and we are eager to see where these colors of the wind will lead us.

Dark Presence & Delight: Givenchy Haute Couture SS10.

It comes once a day or once a week. That sensation and crave inside that grows with every second. A guilty pleasure that's too good to reject. A piece of chocolate, one or two glasses of Möet, a large bowl of Italian ice cream. We've all been there, we can all relate. This is what this season's Givenchy Haute Couture collection invokes. It's dark, almost mystical and yet full of life. Somewhere it was compared to something a modern Morticia Addams would wear and although it does contain a certain dark nature, it's so much more than one defined look. What makes this collection grand is not necessarily its' profiled name but rather what it stands for. As if it was a paint palette, Givenchy's collection might not have compared in look amount to earlier collections of the same season yet it more than makes up for such with its versatility. An all-day-and-night collection indeed. The darker pieces stand true to the dark pleasure as they bear a "matador" feeling to them. Romantic yet lethal. Carefully adorned by detailed sequined jackets and lace, each broad shouldered jacket, sleek black jumpsuit and long chiffon cape is full of that killer instance. With this sort of spanish influence over the power statement that a french woman does that makes this exquisite. A sort of crossover like no other. It's this combination of boleros, 1940s vintage-reminiscent lingerie and even some funky 1970s bodysuits that make for an ingenious design full of vitality. In fact, this vitality is what makes this collection so genius as a few pieces of bright colorful nature were included. Encrusted with sequins and studs, these jump suits create a sort of edge known to Givenchy. In contrast, the last gowns (especially the closing one) were filled with such a delicacy and obvious craftsmanship that not only prove Riccardo Tisci's skill as a coutourier but give a sense of springlike ease into this mystical collection. And it does indeed take a bright designer to come up not only with new creations but the use of material. The use of ostrich feathers was an ingenious way to create depth and give some of that french glamour to an otherwise structured power suit. All this just being a statement. Givenchy is not only a force to be reckoned with but it's a force that as always is here to stay. Lurking in the dark waiting to please us once more.

Drops of Jupiter: Chanel Haute Couture SS10.

Did you fall from a shooting star? Maybe not. Yet in a softly draped array of gowns, blazers, cullots, ribbons and capes adorned in flowers laces and an overall silver layering, the girls from Chanel walked like proper ladies descending from a far off planet. That is indeed what is remarkable about Chanel, it manages to reinvent its own look over as Karl Lagerfeld presents his 54th Haute Couture collection. Although some of the designs were a bit repetitive channeling Coco Chanel in different shades and colors and even if the combination of cullots and blazers might have seen a bit simple for couture, Chanel manages to cater a whole variety of different looks to a glamorous woman who might enjoy a weekend in the country, cocktails and evening events. It is in fact such order that Chanel transitions its own looks into a wide spectrum of possibilities from the beginning to the end of the day.

This season's bridal gown takes a twist from the regular and follows the pastel trend as it is dazed in a soft shade of baby pink. With a touch of spring, it almost acts as the bearer of the first flower bloom. This not only because of the arm adornment but also by the way the gown flows to the floor in a nearly milky way. It is this rich yet soft texture that gives the gown such a warm feel and appeal. It's Chanel ingenuity that makes the gown as it is feminine and elegant in the way it is built almost like a Greek robe yet it is delicate with the flowers throughout the top part making it sweet and youthful. A true statement of transition into that next level. The groom on the opposite side is covered in a white gold coloring and even if it might be a bit over the top, it mixes and matches quite well as it subtly compliments the hints of silver on the bride and furthermore the entire collection.

Similarly to the bride, the other pieces of the collection enjoy that delightful spring, summer feeling as the pastel coloring and the careful detailed roses are present. It is actually an either or situation as simple silky smooth gowns with some silver roses are presented and on the opposite side, gowns and dresses adorned in sheer make up a bit more voluminous and creative designs. It's this visionary feeling that keeps Chanel at the top as a merchandising brand as gowns that will absolutely sell are interlocked with other pieces that are a bit more visionary and fashion forward. And what is truly intriguing with just that feeling is this season's fascination with silver on the Chanel catwalk. From silver nylons to bootins to the design's decor and even fingerless gloves, it's as if Karl Lagerfeld was paying a hommage to Michael Jackson. Of course, we know better as we all know Karl Lagerfeld's adore for his fingerless gloves. No matter what the inspiration behind the silver layering throughout the collection, it puts a new twist into Chanel and gives it a rather other worldly appeal. And it's this appeal that has kept the brand so far as it is now and what will have it coming back season after season here on.

Angels in the Night: Armani Privé Haute Couture SS10.

Giorgio Armani carries their audience to a place a wondrous place and puts a woman in contact with her dark side. And even if dark side tends to be synonymous for obscure and mystical terms, Armani opens our minds and clears us of all those meanings. The red thread is a bit unnoticeable at first yet as every design goes by, it is clear to see that common theme. Night. A dark yet light moment.

Each piece that glides by is reminiscent of the stars and the moon. Armani catches a glimpse of luminescence as their gowns and suits play with curves creating the moon-effect in different shapes and sizes and it's that exact play on curves that is intriguing. Not only is it a modernistic design as the shoulders lash out, unusual slits are presented and body contour lines are redefined, but it's sensual as well. Notice the word sensual as in seductive and not in sexy. Sensual because it does not cross that line into something of tacky nature as it maintains its pure nature. Such is the case as in many of the necklines as they plunge down into an elegant manner instead of something ála Versace worn by J.Lo for the Grammy's in 2000. No, this is something that remains a bit more innocent and most of all, elegant. It's this same elegance that is carried throughout the show that makes for the nocturnal fantasy. The materials used dream their way through the collection as the shining appearance only embraces the night feeling even more and makes each piece shine like small stars. Some of the materials though seemed a bit unusual as some of the gowns appear to be made of bubble wrap material. Still, overlooking that, the overall outcome does succeed and even the jewelry that could seem childish used in other contexts, suits in perfectly making it the simple cherry on top on a well-carried out theme without being too focused on that one subject. Our favorite highlight? Well, what is more delicate to live inside a bubble. You tell us. Genius.

Absolutely Fabulous: Christian Dior Haute Couture SS10.

What is a lavish lifestyle? Yeah, nowadays it's owning a huge mansion in Beverly Hills with five or six state of the art cars and overall owning all properties in huge sizes. Never mind those weekends at the beach house or traveling to an exotic hotspot around the world to ski or surf a couple of days. Well, John Galliano wipes all that out and takes us back to a time where horse back-riding, powdering your face and wearing extravagant gowns, coats and hats where the hottest things to do among the few European elite women. Inspired by these times, John Galliano manages to present a colorful collection catering from that actual elite society in every sense of the word. It is quite remarkable how he manages to transition from an opening piece representing the "fox-hunter" woman of the red fitted jacket, long skirt and tall black hat to the lavish "junon" white gown. Although these designs were certainly nothing coming unexpectedly, it was rather pleasing to see a continuation of his feminine designs that not only embrace a woman's glamour and elegance but also that sense of poise that is almost lost in these times of modernist designs. The array of colors truly remind us that this is a warmer season collection as the colors disperse into those of a flower bouquet. The combination of leather, sheer and other materials make for that extravagance known to Dior. Even though the white bootines were pleasing and wearable, it's actually the shoes made of lace that take that pizzazz moment as they asymmetrically make their way around and add to that elegance previously discussed. It's obvious that the term fabulous has lost its own meaning and has gone from being something splendid to something rather bland. Yet here's a reminder of what not only is splendid and grand but absolutely fabulous in every sense of the word.

A Very Important Date: The Alice in Wonderland Trend.

And a very important date it is. As our spring and summer months getting closer and closer, our clothing gets lighter and more colorful. They tend to say that trends always come back and it is indeed true but this time, we regress to a younger time. A time of color and imagination where innocence and playfulness ruled and all else did not matter as much. As much as I dislike the word adorable to describe a set of trends or style, it is the word I shall use this time. Why? Because it simply is. Whether it's in Paris or NY, designers went for a bit more youthful designs and splashed us back into our own imagination.

Alice in Wonderland might not necessarily be the inspiration for these designers' motives or ideas in general but one thing is certain. The main idea and topic of this classic remains true on all the following designs. That youthful curiosity, that adventurous school girl spirit and that flowery start into womanhood. All in all, it's not about how the gowns are worn but rather how each and every piece embody that young Alice that every woman has inside in some sort of way.

Although I can't get my head to accept the clogs as they always seem a bit bulky and dull, you can't anything but love that youthful look that is portrayed through each shot. It is indeed a bit odd because that perfect Chanel woman voices so much finesse and elegance in my eyes. Not that it's at all different here but the use of short poofed up skirts, fake tattoos and fake tan lines, the idea of that woman is not only modernized but given a sweet adventurous twist. At the same time, sticking to light colors and playful textures, Chanel manages to keep that classic poise that is so characteristic to their line. It's an almost ladylike feeling of being on the prairies and it's exactly how Karl Lagerfeld regresses us to that Alice in Wonderland time. Long days in the country filled with color and adventure. That's what we call true Spring Summer feeling. Delightful!

Diane Von Furstenberg Spring Summer 2010

Across the Atlantic and amongst tall buildings and a city of noise, we were presented with a collection such fairylike that it took us right back out to nature. There is such a thrilling feeling as Diane Von Furstenberg uses color to her advantage and creates a summer paradise. Although her collection is a bit more urban than Chanel's there is still a playful feeling as the accessories of such different clashing colors mix and match to create a warm feeling. As Alice wonders further unto that wonderous place, she was introduced to a world of flowers and butterflies of great color. In such a way, the play on how each dress folds and falls, creates not only that feeling talked about earlier but also a playful outfit that is made for each girl ready for an adventurous day and is obviously not afraid to shine. Literally.

Jason Wu Spring Summer 2010

There is no rule that commands designs of spring and summer to be of a flowery nature. On the contrary, it's that play with such elements of a new season that can make a whole collection. Such is the case for Jason Wu. Through intriguing uses of color each design comes alive, redefining what girly and "hip" means. We just love the way many designs have that contour indicating of a more classic time. That simple shirt and loose skirt with a belt splashed with a bit of color or an unexpected texture. A simple short and feathered gown with a splash of green. Simple designs taken out of this world by a simple use of some imagination to create youthful designs that stay true to the topic of being a sophisticated young girl or woman.

Christopher Kane Spring Summer 2010

If there was such a thing as a Mad Hatter, I can guarantee that his hat would come off in a matter of seconds when faced with Christopher Kane's creativity. It might not be your answer to a little black dress but it certainly puts out a fresh and new idea out there. Personally, I find it quite ingenious to use the checker pattern that is reminiscent of home, youth and family and putting into something a bit more risqué. The mid-rift cuts and the high end slit on the dresses do not only create for a more playful nature to each creation but reinvent that sweet innocent feeling into something a bit more mature. It doesn't hurt that there is some sort of Oriental feeling to each design as it only adds to the mystery that makes each piece a piece of wonderland.

Peter Jensen Spring Summer 2010

There is something about Peter Jensen. Some things are perfectly clear and basic to see. Not everything has to be a reinvention and that is what Peter Jensen clearly manages to show us through the use of solid spring colors and that almost funny yet clever use of "picnic" objects printed on the designs. That pretty white apron on while putting out the red mantle on the grass. Eating a watermelon while gazing at the swans swimming down by the small lake. Sure, it may all seem a bit far fetched but when faced with the facts, this collection is a clear back to basics. That's exactly where that youthful look comes once again into play showing us that even the simplest things can make the largest impressions.

Vatle Spring Summer 2010

I decided for once to have a wild card. Now it may be wild but the degree of potential in my eyes is a winner in the long run. Having had a wide variety of designs, I chose this one as it pertained to that sweet childhood feeling. It's on that simple white that it gets intriguing. That ruffled texture mimics in our heads those sweet spring daisy petals. Yet what makes this design eye catching is the cut on the side showing not only a innocence to the gown but also modernity. It's such versatility that can take new designers to that whole new level. And that's what Vatle is. Better watch out for this one!

Last but not least, I leave you with a small preview to the new movie coming out soon. As I mentioned before, it may not have been the source of inspiration for these delightful designs but it certainly opens a whole can of opportunities and inspiration. After all, we all have that cute little sense of curiousness and adventure inside of us just waiting to wonder off some day and sometime.

Joan Smalls: The Reinvention of the Supermodel

Everyone talks about the return of the supermodel. Linda Evangelista this, Claudia Schiffer that, Helena Christensen over there and Naomi Campbell over here. Don't get me wrong, these legends are nothing to mock at or joke about. They are legends in their field because of the everlasting job they do every time they get on that camera or that runway.

What we do keep forgetting about is that the fashion industry as a whole has changed. Before, the model appeal and the model demand searched for those exquisitely beautiful girls to the simple eye that wowed everyone from the first moment. It's not that the wow-factor is gone but many girls that make it big are a new type of beauty. The type of girl who doesn't really get noticed at first hand yet with the help of some cool designs, intriguing scenery and maybe some edgy make-up effects, they transform into a new type of being. Goes to show you that there's more than only one type of beauty and that beauty as itself is endless.

Long intro? Perhaps but there is a key point to this. Girls with the previously desired look might be overlooked at times and maybe even seen as commercial models yet some of them manage to make the cut. Such is the case of the one and only Joan Smalls @ IMG NY. We first noticed Joan some couple of seasons ago for Ports 1961 and those cheekbones intrigued us. As each season has passed by we have gotten more and more drawn in as she walked for Oscar de la Renta, Issey Miyake, Vivienne Westwood and Hussein Chalayan. That quite distinctive face could have not been forgotten easily. As she grew more and more she was noticed by powerhouse, IMG who obviously snatched her up from her previous agency and will hopefully give her a good name in the future. We already see her as a Ralph Lauren girl, a cK Jeans girl and someday maybe a Victoria's Secret Angel.

Hussein Chalayan SS10, Issey Miyake SS10, Oscar de la Renta SS10, Vivienne Westwood FW09-10

We have in a way been waiting to showcase Joan for quite sometime but it's not before today when we got hold of these minimalistic and wonderful shots by James Mahon that we got around to it. In the olden supermodel day, a model had to deal with her model life in the city as well as the beach as posing for Sports Illustrated or generally in swimwear was a lot more common. Well, we see these two shoots as a play on that same feeling. The daily yet almost mysterious feeling of the city and the liberating feeling at the beach. James Mahon clearly pulls out the best in Joan as we get to see a next-door girl with that unique quality and face structure. You can relate to each and every shot at the same time that they all hold such unobtainable feeling.

Sometimes, it's not about the extravagant set or the lavish designs. Some shots simply just are. The relaxed posing is what makes Joan appealing to the public yet it's that unique face structure that makes her bookable. It's right here that the term on the title comes to play. Like I mentioned, everyone talks about the return of the supermodel.Well, as many designs come into reinvention and many trends come back decade after decade, should this be any different? Is Joan Smalls one of the reinventions of the supermodel? We think so. Joan Smalls, you're on our radar.

You Will Not Forget Me by Valerija Kelava.

Tell me. What is better than finding a four sided clover? Finding two of course. I feel such fortune right now. We were introduced to a star a couple of weeks ago and her glow is getting stronger. It's never only about connections or appeal. It's about mood and attitude. It's provoking and at this right moment I couldn't feel more over the edge. Raw, exposed and beautiful. That is Valerija Kelava @ NEXT.

It first started on Dazed and now it continues on Cover Magazine. And even though it's another publication, the same raw feeling was translated into a whole set of different shots yet still have that invulnerability that is characteristic of Valerija. This girl must have really made an impression on Kacper Kasprzyk as we go in-depth with one of the most intriguing faces of fashion with some of the most distinctive designs, shapes and textures of the moment. This is not only a "Private View". This is the private view.

Stylist Karolina Isomaki is smart. I mean, you can see the feeling of the story when you first spot that unique Ann Demeulemeester belt. What happens when bondage becomes an itemof adoration? Yes, you create a powerful being of control. After all, isn't that the whole purpose of design? To invoke a feeling on the individual in possession of the piece. An unforgettable piece. The Mark Fast dresses may look like something that comes out of a pirate movie. A woman stranded on a far away island. Without make-up and complications. Without wardrobe malfunctions. A simple woman on a simple design. Now, we gotta be honest. The detail on Mark Fast's pieces are intricate yet they evoke a sort of tribal feeling. There is a certain quiet movement on each piece that not only is eye-catching but as it hugs the woman's curves, they create feeling. Yet it's that combination of power with sleek that may prove best in the long run. Youthful feminine designs like the ones from Azzedine Alaïa and simply put American Apparel not only reflect a simple and young side of a woman but also make up for that classic side. Not everything has to flash at all times. And who could ever forget one of the top items of the season. A coat is not only about the warmth. It's about how it makes you feel and how it moves with the clothes. In this case, the oversized coat from Dries van Noten does exactly just that. With a woven texture it could almost look like a hand-me-down vintage item at the same time that it holds that french idea of that sleek woman walking down the street. A woman of style indeed.

Some people generally speaking are against nudity but in my eyes, it couldn't be anything more vulnerable and beautiful. Putting aside the porn and the dirty thoughts, there really is such a delicate porcelain-like feeling about it. A delicate touch. That's what makes Valerija so intriguing. As we mention before, she is almost that in-your-face sort of beauty that haunts you with those cheekbones and that stare. Yet at the same time, when incorporating the nudity, it adds for an all-sided girl not only aware of surroundings but aware of herself. A self-confidence for ages and an attitude that rules. True star in the making.

Sometimes, it's not always about how captivating or astounding a piece of art is. It may look like one of the great wonders of the world but if it's not something worth remembering then it's just another piece of art. It's only when that captivation reaches that astounding level that it remains on our minds from here on. And one thing is certain; this, we will not forget.

We are creatures of the night and creatures of the day. A people and B people. Beings of clarity and beings of darkness. But what happens when that divisive rule is broken and our inner truth is revealed? When chains from society are broken? What happens when categorization and stamping people stops and life starts? Yes, then and just then we are presented with something precious. It's human nature. That place where our inner desires and fantasies meet our outer boundaries and limits. Where savage meets control and ying meets yang. Balance.

Two personalities. One girl. This is to to "B ME" by Katie Fogarty @ NEXT.

The beauty about being human is the capability to be different and it's exactly what BON andTEN Magazine capture. Alessandro Dal Buoni's view was a bit more angelic and light. Minimalistic and pure. There is a soothing sensation from each shot that reveals a sophisticated yet sensible girl. Clean textures, basic colors and that youthful appearance make for a stellar performance. At the same time, Max Von Gumppenberg and Patrick Bienertsimultaneously reveal sensuality and that fiery light in the dark. In comparison to the last named, it's haunting and unexpected. Revealing bold colors and vivacious textures, a star editorial that is the other side of a coin is born as well. This is exactly what interests me. There is no question that both editorials stand strong on their own but together they make for that complex nature. A complexity that can be found on our everyday trends and designs and our own behavior. A reflection of both if you may.

What really is conformity? According to Wikipedia, it's "the process by which an individual's attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors are influenced by other people". All I can say is, what happened to just experimenting? And that is exactly where we are taken here. The tendency to not want to fall into one category. To rebel in a way and what better way to showcase this inner rebellion than by the use of leather and shades off black leather. It's a bit funny to me and as previously mentioned the turn around leather has made and the way it has presented itself on these days. It no longer is that sole rock element yet it still hasn't sold out its spirit. Through the use ofCeline, Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, that undermined feeling of rebellion has not been lost. Combined with short and tightly fitted shirts such as the plaid one from Balenciagaor the more free spirited from Christopher Kane, the message is clear. It's about not giving in and still remaining true to it's own ideals.

At the same time, there is such a sensuality that is simply appealing. Again, there is no use for any revealing cuts on these pieces. It's all about that feminine rock style. Legs can be by far some of the best attribute in a women's figure and why not cater to them in knee high boots or fitted pants. Unless used on such a jumpsuit as the one presented by Chloé, I don't see the use for drowning your own body with items that don't do anything for your own appearance. As some people may have observed, I may have a thing for the return of femininity and poise. Such is the case here as well. I can't say anything else than to distinguish the use of dark seductive eyes and either bright and vivid red or skin toned lips. It is passionate and it's in control. Such is a feeling of one side of our human nature. Daring and not afraid to be noticed. From shot to shot we see almost a creature of the dark simply caught by the photographer's eye while going about on its own environment. Perhaps and just perhaps this is a reflection on our own selves and how we go about our inner desires and fantasies. A reflection on that mysterious person who desires to come out at times and let us experience the world for what it truly is and not by how limits surround it. A break-away card.

It's sort of funny how youth is cherished by our everyday culture. I find it quite amusing indeed "how the question of what you want to be when your grow up" turns into "how do you manage to look so young" with time. Really, it's not about dressing yourself with bling bling, big signs proclaiming the brand name of your t-shirt or overdone make-up that may make you look like a drag queen. Obviously, this sounds like a nightmare but it truly is so often that you see people walking around with clothes that are not age appropriate. It is about the attitude. This is what amazed me about these shots. There is such cleanse on each design. Somehow, the placement of zippers and buttons, the layering of fabric in short and chic designs and the conservation of that womanly figure on each design translate into elegance and expensive.

Youth is not conserved by hanging onto every piece of accessory you own and flashing it across your body. There is a time and place for everything and what Katie shows us from shot to shot is that even when being elegant, the use of accessories is not always required. A clean look on a clean face can bring out that inner youth. Through basic colors, oversized jackets and ingenious cuts, we are presented with something unique. From Calvin Klein to Jill Sander and Rick Owens, the term of a jacket has been given a whole new meaning. Asymmetry and new placement of the usual items have given jackets a sense of character. And it's that exact sense that shows such sophistication. Simple black dresses adorned with laces that hug the body are a new sense of a youthful woman. A woman in touch with herself yet not completely vulnerable. I have to say that I truly adore the Miu Miu design presented through. Whoever said that showing a bra was a sign of lewdness or tackiness had not seen the french piece. To me, the clean cut epitomizes femininity. It shines by itself without the use of any previous named bling. And it shows some sense of strength and touch at the same time. And again, maybe that's the point. To manage to see that simple side of life. That side of no color yet not dull. A place of light that abides to certain rules yet gives us some sense of understanding and clarity. The safe-keep card.

All in all, these two pieces of magazine work are more than just pictures or part of a portfolio. They reflect a deal of life and human behavior. That no one is just one but it's that balance that makes us the creatures we are. And such should be in our sense of style as well. There is no use in hanging onto one single idea or one style or trend. It's better to experiment and find a niche that is variable. After all, we were given the power of choice. So choose to be bold and soft. Choose to be a chameleon.

What impressed me the most about all of these shots is not only the difference but the equality in both and it shines through thanks to Katie Fogarty. The range of expressions and variety is profoundly exquisite. She transforms from that intimidating and powerful woman to a meek yet confident girl. And it's the power of transformation that gives her an edge. It's that exact power that transforms into longevity in this industry. I mean, she definitely has an interesting face and a well suited body for both runway and editorials but what truly determines your career is not only that but range and personality. Such things seem to explode from within and are clearly shown. I have to admit that when I first saw her many months ago, I saw someone rather similar to Ali Stephens but now I see her own persona. There is no doubt in my mind that such a haunting gaze, powerful face and fragile body will be something in our minds for much time to come.

The chinese call it ying yang. I call it to B ME. Not only because it's a pun on the editorial's names but because having balance is about being one own self. Two sides of a coin and one single being.

Smells like Teen Spirit

Grunge. Yeah, grunge. That feeling of almost sleazy nature that really doesn't make you all that uncomfortable. Sitting on a sofa with a white singlet and some old thorn up jeans listening to Nirvana. Yet something has changed nowadays. That grunge feeling has escalated into something new. Call me crazy but the grunge feeling has turned into some sort of odd luxury. Designers do it, celebrities do it and the popular world does it. Is this right? Is this what Nirvana would have wanted? I guess these are some rhetorical questions. Or are they? On the last issue we get our response through "soft and hard elements come together in a savage place..." Now the true rhetorical question is what does that really mean?

Well, lucky for you and me, Jenny Sinkaberg @ IMG and Valerija Kelava @ Next got the answers for us. I mean, isn't that the point of grunge anyways? To stop overanalyzing everything and just live with it. Through Kacper Kasprzyk, the girls effortlessly remind us of a more relaxed environment. A point of no place or time yet no silence. A point in Dazed and Confused. Through each image the girls transfer that hard rocked out attitude through their expressions yet it transforms into a soothing and intriguing experience to the viewer as the photographer manages to capture the girls' poise and almost vulnerability at the same time. There is indeed something intriguing about the whole editorial. Not only how two distinct uniquely beautiful girls mix and mash together but how do each and every piece of luxury becomes one with that grunge feeling.

You gotta observe that simplistic on this type of luxury. It's not extravagant or over the top. On the contrary it's indeed minimalistic. Yet it's the textures and the natural feeling to the various designs that give it such an expensive feeling. The use of leather provokes such a delicious feeling. Not only does it relate to a more tribal time and shows off that feminine power but relating back to grunge, it shows off the power of leather. Such versatility that when used on leather jackets it may remind us of a biker era but when used by Yves Saint Laurent, Dries Van Noten or Hérmes such as it's used on these shots, it pulls off a more sophisticated and complex manner to itself. This is how the title of the editorial is just genius. Hard elements such as leather meet such soft and feminine issues. We have talked about more simplistic underwear before and the Miu Miu bras shown here are a perfect example of simple luxury. So delicate and simple that they show that fragile feminine side. Loose slips and tops show off that younger, innocence in a woman. And last but certainly not least, the embellishment on thePrada coats or skirts cater to a sort of Parisian sophistication. It's truly magic how each and every item meet and form a solid concept when coming from such harsh and soft opposing points. Mattias Karlsson carefully put out a short set of shots that reflect that complicated woman that doesn't need words to express herself. She just flows into the rhythm, into the beats and just is.

Just as opposing points meet in styling, the casting is by far exquisite. Simple two girl casting? Perhaps. Yet it more than meets the eye. The two pale beauty represent two different ends of the spectrum. One, almost angelic and true viking with a soft almost vulnerable attitude. The other, a pale beauty with a dark secret that hides in her hair or in her tough expressions. These two points seem to meet as both girls in a set of poses and being, match those edgy selves into something beautiful. I truly love that sort of captured youth that goes on through the story. It's vulnerable and credible. The poses are not overdone, they rather show an infraganti moment where each girl just is. It's a bit luxurious and provoking as the girls just slide and sit from shot to shot and it's what makes it appealing. That underlying sensuality without being sleazy. That young girl with a story to be. It's truly a tale. A simple yet complex tale. There's always more than meets the eye. You just have to be careful enough to look and enjoy.

It may not be extravagant and hip. It may not be the trendiest trend and cool. But it still is something. It truly does smell like teen spirit.

Kiss from a Rose.

How is it possible to become so emotionally touched by something unknown physically? How is it possible to extinguish a star's power in a matter of seconds? How is it possible to know someone on a one direction way only? And why does it confuse and hurt one's own soul in such a way...?

Maybe it's that kiss from a rose. That one special connection that engages you with such life power. That power that was a source of fascination and made the rose such a unique flower. It almost feels like a rainy gray day that makes us stay inside and think. Yet thinking only confuses more. The power of thought that once made the rose blossom into a delicate and intricate being, is indeed that same power that shed away her petals and turned the rose into a thorny bush. A bush that only hurt itself with every thorn and was unable to see beyond its own inside beauty.

Maybe.

All I know is that from this point I'm standing from and this point in time, I still like to fork myself. Each and every day. May you have left us for a better reality where each and every petal blossoms again and frees you from the pain and the chains. No more running away from something or someone or yourself.

And yes, we will be saying hi to you forever. And forever. And forever.

And The World Goes Round...

Yes, it's been a while but it is no more. As the world wrapped up the spring/summer fashion weeks a couple of weeks ago, everyone's eyes are on the new trends, designs and faces of the season. We're not gonna lie. We are just as interested. We though we would go at it a bit differently this season and actually include our favorite designers of the season. There really is so much talent to be seen and it is no question that this season is no different. You may perhaps think that this is all just a summary of personal items but it's more than that. I mean, once every half year, we are presented with choices and a wide range of possibilities yet it's not about quantity but rather quality. It's about making the smart choices and make yourself stand out from a crowd. This is our star list.

Créaturs / Designers

Givenchy

There is something about Givenchy and we're not just talking about its reputation. There is a sense of organized chaos in every design. Through extravagant or simple patterns they manage to create outfits that remain to that true powerful Givenchy feeling. Broad shoulders and bold textures create a powerful individual and sensation. The feeling of that in control woman. That woman with a purpose. Yet at the same time, it hasn't forgotten its delicate French roots as they come back to a feminine figure. the way the patterns cross each other and overlap, they both accentuate that delicate womanly body and elongate it. An elegant and powerful stance. What a combination!

Balenciaga

What always keeps Balenciaga at its tip top is the fact that they always stay a step above the rest. This time it's no different as they bring a future reality come to life. The use of bold highlighted colors and bold cuts create for a somewhat tribal figure of the future. Yet even if the loud colors are more than vivacious, Nicolas Ghesquiere stays basic with basic coloring such as black, gray, white and brown. What we love the most about this collection is not only the creativity or the loudness of the designs but its unique use of leather which indeed make for that tribal feeling. By placing it into diverse locations on an outfit it breaks the mold of conformity and creates a new edge and at the same time tying every outfit together on a play of color, shine and texture.

Alexander Wang

There is no denying the amount of talent this young designer has and this season it is no different. The genius of Alexander Wang designs is the combination of items along the same item or outfit. It's that unexpected delight that makes us notice each and every outfit. What we love about him is that true NY feeling we get out of the collection. A sport chic collection indeed. Some may see it as a bit English influenced as the brown leathered items throughout the collection could be seen as a reference to english rugby but we like to see beyond that and look at the entirety. The sweatshirt use, the basic colors. The mix of simple with unexpected cuts is what makes for that extravagance. And to us that is a NY feeling.

Valentino

People may complain about the essence of Valentino in this collection but in our eyes, it's nothing but delightful. Why? Because of the power of reinvention. If you could manage to capture a dreamy cloud on a dress, you got Valentino. It truly is finesse in design. Through the use of bows, sheer and embroidered flowers, a reinvention of that feminine woman is made. What is there not to love. From one to the next, the designs are a true representation of that chic elegant woman. An accentuation of detail is what puts the Valentino designs out there. Each outfit looks like it could have been handmade and not necessarily ready to wear and it gives it such an expensive and elegant feeling. Truly a one in a million design on that lucky owner of such design.

Viktor & Rolf

We can't say that we have followed this duo's work for a long time but this collection is nothing but impressive. On a period of economic recession and cuts many designers have decided to maybe cut back and be a bit more conservative and Viktor & Rolf followed the cutting trend. The only difference is they did it with a chainsaw. A bit funny indeed but the use of netting throughout their collection made for a commanding presence through each design. Playing with symmetry and colors, they managed to come up with a fun collection that beats the safe out of many other designers. Although some of the outfits may have been a bit extravagant and maybe not as wearable, the truly amazing part out of this is the fact of how wearable this whole collection is. Addison Gill

After making her debut last season, Addison is quietly building herself up. Obviously we would have loved to see a lot more of Addison in Paris and Milan but we are not worried after the wonderful NY season she had. There is indeed something about that baby faced with an edge. She carries such elegance that manages to book her Jill Stuart and Jason Wu yet she still has enough edge to get shows like Byblos. That is true star versatility.

Alla Kostromicheva

A top newcomer last season on various´eyes last season, Alla is a legend in the making. That stare and face structure is not only commanding but even intimidating. Making such strong stances and commanding each step she takes on every runway managed to make her one of this season's most booked. Booking shows like Bottega Veneta, Emilio Pucci and Yves Saint Laurent, Alla is not only bookable but versatile. And we are not surprised that she did as well as she did as that unique "death stare" keeps us wanting for more and more.

Lyndsey Scott

This one was a surprise and a pleasant one at that. After getting the coveted Calvin Klein exclusive last season she went on to prove that she's not a one hit wonder but rather a soon to be in demand model. Getting again coveted spots in Gucci, Prada and Fendi she is making quite a buzz for herself and leaves us wondering what editorials or even campaigns this could produce. What we love is how much she shines through and what great use for her skin on every show she walked for here in Kenzo, Prada and Blumarine.

Ranya Mordanova

This girl has got me on the edge of my toes. Talk about Givenchy wonders and what that has done for her career but it truly is no wonder. From show to show this season, she truly has shown why she is in it for the long run. She may have this haircut now but here is a girl that could easily rival faces like Natasha Poly. With an exquisite face structure, a long and lean body and a walk that seems to be a favorite of Burberry, Julien Macdonald and Lanvin to name a few, Ranya is not going anywhere else but up anytime soon.

Rose Cordero

La "Rosa Negra" as she calls herself has made quite a name for herself. Not only because of the huge buzz she has had since last season but slowly building her own portfolio including shoots for V Magazine and Vogue Italia. Well, this season it's no different as we get to see her true versatility from show to show. The sweet Dominican girl can turn from sweet and innocent on shows like 3.1 Phillip Lim but turn the edgy side on shows like Rick Owens and Emilio Pucci. Many may dow her a new Grace Jones but in our eyes she is her own. Rose is a name we won't forget any time soon.

Nouveau Modèle / Newcomers

Jenny Sinkaberg

Jenny is one of those IMG faces you won't forget soon. While only making Paris appearances (besides from Les Copains in Milan), Jenny has managed to give her agency a name they can be proud of. Walking key shows like Balenciaga, Valentino and Miu Miu among others, Jenny made her presence known with her icy stare and her long and lean runway body. It is no doubt to us that this is not only a good first season but the start of a long career to come. With an elegance that could be compared to that of Kristen McMenamy and an edge of Kristen Owen, she creates and brings her own look and is a true name to watch in the future.

Juana Burga

One of those one of a kind surprises, Juana snuck herself into the radar. We were absolutely sure that Juana would get her own showcard but even without that Juana made her first appearance and a great one at that. Having walked for Doo.Ri and Tory Burch, it is Rodarte that has made her a one to watch on our radar. We are always glad to see new girls of other ethnicities to make it but when you have a face like Juana's and a runway body to go along, it is truly impressive. This may just be a small debut but her career is just taking off. Now we want to see Juana in Paris as well as all over.

Kelly Moreira

She may not have won Elite Model Look France but Kelly has made her first mark and what a huge mark that is. Walking blue chip shown like Lanvin and Yves Saint Laurent and closing Kenzo is quite huge for a new model. We don't blame casting directors either, she truly is a new face to watch, not only because of her powerful stance on the runway but because of that commanding yet vulnerable look. It certainly is a face that intrigues us and makes us wait for the next step.

Kristy Kaurova

Every once in a while a new face pops up that takes you back to those childhood years. Not because she looks like a baby but rather because of that doll-like beauty. Kristy is that example. With a face that could rival Siri Tollerød, Lily Cole and Vlada Roslyakova, Kristy took the cities by storm, not only by earning herself an exclusive for Calvin Klein but by Gianfranco Ferré, Jill Sander and Miu Miu, among others. Her presence is sure not one to fade away quickly and we are more than excited how this porcelain beauty will transform into editorials.

Patricia Van Der Vliet

Sometimes big things happen to pretty people. Lol. Totally kidding but not about Patricia. This one of a kind beauty is not only just that but a presence on the runways as well as she made a huge stirr with her exclusive spot for Prada, her opening for Louis Vuitton and closing for Balenciaga. Such blue-chip shows ensure that this girl will not only mark herself on catwalks around the world but hopefully on campaigns and editorials to come. And with such versatility she shows from BCBG by Max Azria to Giles, we can assure no other truth than just that.

There's no denying that fall is back and although some may see it as a dark time, I'd rather see it as a time of new starts. For many it's a time of new school environments whether it's college, university or school. I can't say that that it's true for me. The closer I get to this is watching some episodes of Gossip Girl. Surprisingly this time, it not only works but it applies so much. The phenomenon of this series really twisted up the younger generations of fashion. No longer does every girl have to look like a double of Lauren Conrad or Kim Kardashian but at last, we have a different style that even if it is indeed a bit prepped up and boastful, it is so detailed and it continues to have that innocence. I feel that innocence has been lost as girls are supposed to grow up faster and faster and something gets lost in the process. This type of style is maybe a bit Manhattan, maybe a bit British but one thing is certain. It still is that cute girly and detailed style that shows a more innocent and proper girl. After all, first impression can always make or break a situation. So for once, why not rub some of that Manhattan elite essence unto us and live at least some of that life of that gossip guy/girl.

The real question is what is the so sought after style of these elite girls consist of? And is it at all affordable? Well, as I'v e often said, it's not always about the brand. Although sometimes and for some people it may be worth every penny, these trends tend to be affordable as long as you know what you're going for. This September's issue of Elle Norway is just that guide into that life and who better to guide us into that than Malin Ljungberg and Frida Gustavsson@ Elite/Stockholmsgruppen. We've featured Frida and she certainly on our radar but this adds such a sweet coating to it al before. Joel Rhodin manages to capture that sweet innocence. That moment when they're not girls but not yet women either. No pun intended. Although both girls manage to capture that youth, we are more than in love with Frida's smile. Not only is it youthful and sweet but along with her dynamic poses, they add that certain touch to the editorial "Høstkuppet" and make it more than just a guide into youthful trends but some strong piece of work in our eyes as well. I mean, with such a smile, do we smell a Benetton campaign? We certainly hope so!

What is indeed sort of funny is that many of the trends that capture this gossip girl kind of lifestyle are branched off of that accurate child era of growing up. The circus, playing dress up in bigger clothes, little red riding hood, soft textures are among some of the strong trends that are mentioned. Let's start off with colors. If I say girl what is the first color that comes into mind. Obviously, pink. This season's pink is a bit more grown up and it's why it's a bit more edgy than the usual baby child like pink. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Sonia Rykiel put a bolder pink up to grabs and it certainly should not be ignored this season. Why darken up just because the winter months are coming. No use. Even if pink should be too much a bold color, you have one of this season's hottest colors on its full rise. Red. Like that Little Red Riding Hood. Lol. But seriously, it adds some color and nothing expresses that feminine nature like these two colors. Last but certainly not least is obviously black but black is always in fashion. This season, you might want to go towards revisited trends and choose velvet. However, you gotta be very careful. Go rather for a dress than a jacket to not look like outdated. Hey, you don't wanna be 2000 and late.

When little I used to love to play dress-up and it might not be exactly the same but the next tips are somewhat alike. Dress-up 101 if you may. It is no secret that the uniform jacket has made its impact as well as the oversized jacket. What I like about both is how playable both items are. The thing with uniform jackets is that there really is no right or wrong about these. As long as they portray that true feeling it doesn't matter if it's decorated with buttons or laces. You be your own boss of what works for you. Now, uniform jackets are almost the same because of the possibilities. You might go for something vintage or even a male jacket. The point is that it fits you and your figure. A nice touch might just be a thin belt right across the waist to show off your figure. Again, be your own boss. What is also interesting is the "boyfriend jeans". Jeans that fit you yet they are not skintight. Either that or if you want to be a bit more playful, go with some different textured tights. Miu Miu gives us some great inspiration as they pearled their tights coming up with a feminine answer. Take that inspiration and apply it to yourself. The important thing here is to keep it light and fresh. That's the way to keep it youthful.

I have to say that I'm a bit biased about these shots as Frida has captivated our minds from the first moment we saw her walking for Valentino. This editorial shows her true potential as a rising star. Not only because of her wonderful face and body made for fashion but because of the way both her and Malin feed energy off each other. there is such dynamic energy and such positive feeling that it enlightens the whole mood and gets its' youthful feeling across. Not only that but we are more than impressed with Frida's versatility. Earlier this week, she has proven that she not only is a charm on set on editorials but she also has what it takes on the runway as she walked for Calvin Klein and Marc Jacobs. There's more than just a pretty face here. We just might have found a new legend. XOXO.

In for the Kill: FIN & Batlak og Selvig.

Worldwide known model Lauren Hutton once said, "There's no such thing as fashion. Fashion is an idea to make you think that you're not in it at all times. Fashion is what you're offered four times a year by designers. And style is what you choose". This is one of my favorite personal statements because of the power it gives us as individuals. To me style is more than just a cool, fancy or sexy outfit to wear. It's a method of self-impression and the easiest way to communicate. First impressions can go a long way. Yet to find such a statement, you always need the right tools. That's where FIN and Batlak og Selvig step in.

As pioneers in the norwegian world of fashion, these two brands come with each a very unique style, rhythm and taste. What makes them different from all is not necessarily their brand name or their appeal but rather their objectives and/or which tools they present us on our personal quest for style.

Under head designer Per Åge Sivertsen, FIN comes with a new sense of fashion thinking. It's no longer about being fashionably conscious but rather consciously fashionable. Our actions here on this earth obviously have an impact yet that doesn't mean that we need to go around in dull, raggedy or boring clothes. To the contrary, FIN has given us a innovative way of thinking with design pieces made in environmentally friendly ways. Although a great idea, this is obviously not enough to create a solid brand. This seems to be no problem for FIN as they have that key ingredient. The mixture of vivacious colors, bold snits and both symmetrical and asymmetrical designs makes for exclusive pieces that are again fashion conscious. In this case scenario, we'll be using their S/S 10 collection shown exclusively under Copenhagen Fashion Week yet the ideas apply generally for their designs throughout.

It's really not always about being extravagant. The 80s have indeed come back but overstuffing is definitely not the answer. Many times, less is more and that's exactly what FIN achieves through pastel and soft colored clothes that capture the easy and breezy feeling of that spring or summer morning. The way that the clothes are made and loosely fitted make for that versatility and that wearability. With relatively basic pieces yet intricate shapes and intriguing textures, they go to show us that it's brand is indeed catered to a wide range of ages. The texture that almost looks silk-like gives away that elegant and expensive feeling. It somehow reminds me a bit of Donna Karan yet with its own twist. Cocktail dresses, high fashion urban wear for that city girl, that finesse. All of it is captured as a red thread throughout the designs. It can be New York and it can be LA. Paris or Milan. That right there is versatility. Although it may seem like a brand catered to younger generations there's nothing refraining power or businesswomen from wearing such items spectacularly as well. Why? Well, first because the definition of young has become so vague on our modern world but moreover because of that utter elegance that is carried out throughout their designs. If I had to compare it with something in nature, I'd compare it to a feather. Light and breezy yet elegant and intricate. Even with its own elegance, it has such appeal that it stays true to its innovative and fresh image. No matter what and in our eyes, FIN has what it needs not only to survive but to succeed and become a household name in the near future. We love!

What is it really what makes this brand so appealable? Is it the fact that it's under two great designers Admir Batlak and Charlie Selvig each bringing their own way of thinking and coming up with a wholesome and wonderful idea for design? Perhaps. Is it the fact that they come from a prestigeous background working for designers like Hussein Chalayan and Dolce and Gabbana and taking that experience into their own ideas and dreams? Perhaps. Is it the fact that they have managed to create such a buzz around them and have already shown at Copenhagen Fashion Week as well as Oslo Fashion Week? Perhaps. To me, it's something different and a lot more personal. Something perhaps already talked about yet something so key. The reinvention of classic.

The classic as a whole is very much underrated. Not only does it present a very elegant manner of style but it comes from a time with such variety giving a wide range of possible outcomes. Yet it's really not only about taking that classic moment and putting into a now moment. That's not designing rather plain copying. The genius part consists of bringing the old back in ways that seem new. A reconstruction of something appealing to its own time without losing that true classic self. Alexander McQueen is for instance one of those designers who does this yet we're not here to talk about well-established designers but rather those approaching on the horizon. Yes, we're talking about Batlak og Selvig. There's something in the fabric, on the cut of each piece and on the whole presentation that is reminiscent of that older time of poise and finesse. At the same time, there's something about those hip and fresh colors, those bare mid-rifts and backs and those detailed shapes that reflect of our times of self-secure, unique and independent individuals. It's that unique balance between both that gives Batlak og Selvig not only an edge but again, versatility. I really don't need to mention once more of the importance of this but what I really do need to mention is how wearable these pieces are. What's wonderful is that many of these pieces can be worn at both day and night time. At work related events and later on at cocktails, soirees or other night related events. In these times of modernization and rapid culture, time is a valued aspect and nothing is a time saver like a 24 hour outfit. Managing to do this at the same time that it presents something inspiring is not always easy but it seems to me that this brand has found its own key. Batlak og Selvig has not only found its own edge but it has found that key ingredient that keeps individuals coming back for more, practicability, all in all pushing them out of the crown and allowing them to get on their way to not only success but establishment.

There's really not much more to say. The title may be cliché as usual but it does say it all. Brands that are literally going in for the kill and we are so excited. Oh boy, are we excited!

Rock Me Romantic, Constance Jablonski!

What is the definition of classic? It's more than just a standard or a norm. More than some historical piece or one type of look. More importantly, it's more than just a regular, boring thing. Classic is ageless. Classic knows no time or space. Some sort of je ne sais quoi that keeps us coming back for more. That is what Constance Jablonski @ Elite is. That wonderful face that could last a lifetime.

Before I start, I have to admit that I'm anti-fur and any recommendation I make towards it is about faux fur. I really couldn't help not writing about this because it hits it right on the target. Simple elegance. Cover Magazine outdoes itself once more as they present some simple yet powerful shots. Why try to show off something so classic with a lot of embellished shots? No, it's way better to go back to the basics. Kacper Kasprzyk captures this 40s inspired editorial in a series of shots that at the same time remind me of the 60s and 70s. Why does it work? Because it's ageless. Kind of ironic I guess that the title implies to our present time with hip hop reference through the title, "This is fur real". After all, a little light humor can go a long way.

There truly is something there to learn about the 40s. Some may see it as an age of repentance and joy for historical reasons and this may be proven true. But in the fashion world through my eyes, it's a bit different. The way women carried themselves is something to notice. It's about that poise and that proud and elegant way to be. It's that age where romance was the law between a man and a woman. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for equality on our present day yet romance seems to be missing and lost tin time now. That's why I enjoy these shots that much. Simply because it really redefines romanticism as a more modern yet still true to its classic sense. That rock´n roll hair and that seductive attitude. And the best part is the styling as itself as the use of 1940s corset and lingerie comes to use in a portrayal of what is provoking, elegant and sexy.

There's no denying that fur has become a huge item and as long as it's faux, I actually do recommend it. It adds a certain luxury to every normal and basic outfit and that's exactly the key. Knowing when to add fur to an outfit. There's no use of having it over an extravagant outfit as it loses somehow its finesse. After all, it's not an issue about status but rather an issue about elegance and first impressions. On the shots, the match between the Louis Vuitton thigh high boots and fur makes for that killer look. Not because it's a brand name or because of a price tag but because of the combination. Rock and Romance.

Now what is rock and romance? Yes, it's that winning combo. Nobody has the expectation that every women will spend huge amounts on such boots even though for many it might be a dream. Yet the key lies on the inspiration such boots give. There's no denying of the rebellious effect of the boots' pattern or the laced up behind. It actually is what makes it genius. The patterns add that rock factor as they are bright, bold and golden. They give that glitter factor if you may. Yet the back is laced up and in my eyes it connects at once with ballerinas and such. Corsets. Laced up and seductive. The symbol of a temptress. By adding that fur to such a basic outfit it even adds more of that romantic feeling and creates an elegant yet rebellious nature. One of the seasons looks by reinventing the classics. The use of that older type of lingerie is genius as well. I mean, most men love seeing a woman in a thong but is it really sexy? Showing almost everything you have? Whatever happened to the imagination and the seduction part. Such lingerie by Atsuko Kudo in this case makes for that romance. Remember, it's about the inspiration not necessarily about the brand. That reminiscent feeling of such 40s is almost a bit pin-up and it's about the underlying sex appeal. No necessity to reveal it all as long as what you actually do reveal is done with a seductive attitude and it's exactly what such lingerie does for Constance and viceversa.

There is something magic about Constance and it's not only her flawless self. That face shape is classic and it's that kind of face that led Paulina Porizkova and Linda Evangelista to such long lasting careers. It's that face that cosmetics, editors, designers want. In addition to that there is the Constance feeling. A bit mysterious even if she could be the girl next door. There is something expensive about her that is clear that she has staying power. And from editorial to editorial she proves that she has versatility. Each time it's a different side to her yet she always comes back to her own classic self. What is there not to love about that? This is my favorite side. A bit grunge, a bit seductive and a bit real. Rockingly romantic. Oh yeah!

Polina Sova: Are you ready for POLINAtion?

Cheesy title? Yes. Cheesy girl? All the contrary. One of a kind. There is something about Polina Sova @ Team Oslo & Ford NY that is completely captivating. There's something about that magical jawline, that confidence in her stare and those long legs. Some of the images may be NSFW. Back to Polina, what is very rewarding to see is how much she learns and how better she gets. Don't get me wrong. I think she was a genius from the get go but at the same time, it has only gotten better. This is no different. This is Polina taking over.

Imagine that sweet dream of those lazy summer days where you doze off to a soft breeze in the sun. You're alone in a farm far away surrounded by birds singing along and the buzzing of crickets. You turn to the side and there you see her. A farm girl unaware of the passing world around her. Unaware of cell phone reception, unaware of television and the world wide web. She just goes about her day soaking nature's gifts. Just enjoying life and every moment that passes her by. She's a muse.

Does this sound familiar? Perhaps not. Still, this is the feeling Personae Magazine evokes in me with this wonderful editorial, "Nordlandssommerens evige dag". Each shot is captivatingly beautiful as Siren Lauvdal manages to catch Polina in her right environment. The whole editorial almost floats together as it is pieced almost like one of those old black and white movies. It's a romantic piece showcasing not only nature's beauty but that of a girl as well. I may seem a bit poetic today but I get like this when I see such strong pieces of work.

I fall each and every time for a bit older styling and fashion. Yes, I do agree that fashion is always evolving into new pieces and newer ideas yet it almost always comes back to previous renewed ideas. That's why I love this editorial. It really isn't about the most flashy pieces or the most obscene either. Instead, it's as I've said so many times, a return to the feminine. Detailed skirts, blouses and gowns that form the body and show off the beauty of a woman. I especially love see-through pieces that have intricate designs. It's a bit of that older days style. Simple, womanlike and chic. There is no use in overdressing something that already is beautiful as it is. I'm actually blown away by how the Tina H design on the first page of the editorial looks. I remember when I was little I would watch The Little House on the Prairies and look at the dresses the women used to wear. They were not revealing but they carried a woman with elegance. Such is the feeling I see on the Tina H gown. Dreamy, yes.

To be honest, hats are way underrated. They are not uniquely belonging to royalty or to extravagant women on their way to watch their men play polo. No, hats are such an item of elegance and finesse if used properly. There is nothing more elegant in my eyes seeing a woman and not being able to look at her eyes because of the drooping hat. Just a couple of red lips and a big hat. Perfect. In these shots, Polina easily shows us why that is. It adds a certain mystery into every outfit at the same time that it's an attention getter. They don't need to be huge hats as long as they have that certain touch. Feathers, ornaments may be a wonderful addition to these pieces. Experimenting is sometimes worth it.

There is no doubt that Polina has mastered the art of posing. Some may see it as easy and phony yet it's so much more than that. It's an art. To be able to move and express a certain feeling at the same time that you make the garments on you look good is no easy task. Yet in these shots Polina moves so effortlessly like I previously named, as a muse. Elegance and fragility are expressed from shot to shot as she moves in such a dreamy way to show those long Norwegian summer days that don't come to an end. Her skin is so flawless and all the shots showcase her features in such a way that she truly shows that she has what it takes to become an MVP. I decided to include her Ford S/S 10 showcard. I'm not surprised that they used the shots where she portrays Morten Harket. This card shows off her true potential and skill. Looking forward to seeing her walk and showing yet to everyone what talent she has. True POLINAtion. Lol.

Dream Girls: Meghan Collison & The Supremes.

I'm sorry about the title but I really couldn't help myself. Lol. No matter what this simple title really makes you think again about why Supreme girls always are must-book girls. There's something about their nature. There's something about that mysterious face and that one of a kind stance. Something that makes you understand that there's a reason why they are under such a management agency. Something that make you understand without the use of jazz hands (no pun intended) why they are Supremes.

What I like about Dazed and Confused Magazine is their ability to subject beauty and help us readers to see a new way to look at designs and models. In this edition there's actually two editorials, one featuring the wonderfully unique Meghan Collison @ Women & Supreme and the other one featuring the other Supreme girls. Thus my title. Try to think of it as the real dream girls as one of them with the main edit. Lol.

From joke to serious, there truly is something haunting about Meghan. We've already featured Meghan briefly but it's in due time she got more. Maybe there's something about her eyes or her unique face structure. Some may even argue that it's her trademark bangs. Yet on this editorial she manages to shine both with and without. Showing us that her beauty is not in the eye of the beholder but rather in each and everyone of us. It's really genius of photographer Andreas Larsson to have selected such wonderfully soothing settings. The semi-sepia toned shots work to Meghan's advantage as her skin almost become luminescent. A bit of dramatics and a whole set of different looks varying from Chanel to Givenchy and Loewe to name a few show a true talent. I've said this many times but versatility is one of the key talents into not only making it in the industry but lasting in it as well.

What really is more than remarkable to me is the fact where the editorial takes it reference. It relates back to artists such as Paloma Picasso, Patti Smith and Loulou and brings us back some decades into a luxurious 70s and 80s timeframe. Obviously, everyone can portray an editorial in cliché 70s or 80s style but what is done here is done with finesse and it truly represents a lot of this season's hottest designs. Extravagant shoulders, suited blazers and heavy arm and necklace accessories is such a huge 80s statement. So is in fact the use of fur. I've said many times that I don't condone it but I have to recognize its value on this specific shots.

The heavy jewelry from Karl Lagerfeld and Lanvin is actually quite pleasing because not only does it relate to the previous named decade but it does so in such an elegant manner. Same goes for the Chanel suit. A very structured blazer yet it has its own finesse through the use of pearls to add that simple Parisian elegance to the design. The 80s are also revisited through the wonderful Calvin Klein dress. The off the shoulder look might pertain to Greek times yet the fact that it's a simple black dress make it so New York and so chic. A city dress if you may relating to those disco times. Same goes for the Chloé design. Long sleeved designs that capture that femininity. And that is the exact key to all these shots. An elegant and classy woman look. Not necessarily a matured look but rather just refined.

Everybody underestimates people that are seen as back-ups or not the lead girls. Yet on Dazed and definitely for me that is a true understatement. Such is the case when Paulo Sutch shoots Alice Gibb, Alyona Osmanova, Andressa Fontana, Daiane Conterato, Evelina Mabetova, Inna Pilipenko and Tao Okamoto, all @ Supreme. There's nothing to underestimate here. The editorial is truly something for itself as the mixture of artistic expression, paint layering, exquisite design pieces and superb models create a different editorial. A provoking look and discovery.

There is nothing in my eyes more beautiful than the human body as it is. Some images are thus NWSF. Yet these images are not perverse but rather the exact opposite. There is nothing more pure than expressing and showing how we as humans came into this world. And that is what the editorial is trying to portray. This truly is a genius way to display many of the art pieces at hand because it brings them some sort of focus and exposes them to their full potential. I really enjoy how much the colors pop or blend in from shot to shot. For example, in both Louis Vuitton and Vivienne Westwood, the colors pop out a lot more bringing us back to one of the strongest trends of last season. The African trend yet this time with a more refined Parisian touch as meeker fall colors take over and pearls and laces decorate various designs. The animalistic trend is also present through Miu Miu and Diane Von Furstenberg as each fashion house brings its own either through use of more voluminous textures or simply the use of animal prints. Either way it makes to be an esthetic mix of art, human nature and design. A true pleasure to the eyes and a provoking study for the brain.

Now before, I get all touchy and philosophical, I have to admit that I might have gotten so carried away but there is just such dynamic energy and at the same time a sense of clarity in each shot that is engulfing and provoking. Yet to provoke can mean so much. All I can say is that whether it's together or one by one, these girls truly live up to their potential. Their true Supreme potential.
