Seems like it’s exam season since this old defunct blog is getting more hits that usual, and I’m getting a plethora of e-mails from students begging for notes(which i don’t think i have anymore) and guidance(which i happily give :D).

Anyways, it’s been ages since i last posted and things have changed a lot honestly. I’m actually in an IIT right now for one, I’m almost done with my 3rd year. I’m reading through these posts i used to write and can’t help but feel i was being more than a little conceited. There’s still some truth to it though, but i seem to have put it in a lot more childish way than i should have.

I don’t really have much time, nor do i feel the same way about some of the things written on this blog. It’s not the end of the world if you don’t get into VMC, or even IIT for that matter, there are tons of opportunities for everyone.But you’re free to contact me on the old e-mail, thevmcian@gmail.com it was i think for any kind of questions.

Ok guys…i’ve been thinking about this for some time and i think i’ve come to a point where it’s out of my hands(:p), so i’ll just lay it down with no frills, I may be willing to scan my own VM notes and give them away on the blog, but before i do that i need to know if people are gonna show interest at all, remember this is different from scanning and giving away modules,(psstt..WTF!?! i’d be up in copyright scandals upto my neck!), these are the notes made in class, and maybe the exact reason why VM is so unique…i mean, these are the very things that could,if studied properly and repetitevly, get you into an IIT, but remember everything in these notes are in the module, but everything in the module is not in these notes, so you get what i’m trying to say, it’s the extract of EXACTLY what is important for the JEE with no frills attached.

EDIT: I recently found out that the exam this year is objective and that they are actually giving out the sample questions with the entrance forms itself, that is a boon and a curse in the same package. And that explains why the 100percentile chaps didn’t have the foundation course for you, anyways, i’ll post soon on how to tackle an objective exam!

So let’s proceed, the first thing in our agenda is WHAT to study?

1)      There are a lot of things that you can study, but before you start on them, you have to be completely done with your NCERT text books, and by mean done, I mean DONE. Done as in that your soooooooooooooo(and many more…) done that you are confident enough to use it when the next bonfire night comes up ;-). (For those who don’t know what a bonfire means, imagine the festival “Lohri”). Heck, I was “done” with all my NCERT books by the end of November.

2)      Remember that if you still consider your NCERT questions “hard”, then you’re not ready, not by a long shot, I’ve said this many times before and I’ll say it again, the level of your NCERT books is SH*T. (To read more about this click HERE )

3)      After you’ve completed your NCERT books, there are many things that you can do, namely, you could sit down and do the complete R.D. Sharma, which in my opinion, is a complete Waste of time. I think that you all should enjoy your last few months before you step into +1. Really, you’ll really rue the about it afterwards if you don’t, do what you like to do, if you like reading books….DO IT! If you like roaming around the streets like hooligans…DO IT! If you haven’t asked out that girl that you like yet…HELL YEAH! DO IT! Believe me when I say that your board exams are going to be as easy as it is to read this on your PC.

4)      Next, this is THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT before you give your exam, build your confidence, yup, it’s that simple; don’t do ANYTHING that’ll lead you to think that you’re wrong. Just do anything that builds your confidence, go around places with your friends as if you own the place. Do things like that until it comes to the point that if you get a question and your answer doesn’t match what’s given in the book, the first thing that comes to your mind is “Heck, the book’s wrong, they’ve made a misprint here…”. Yes, cracking the entrance exam is not on the basis of how much you know, but how you manage what little you do know. A super genius type of guy could let it all go if he panics in an exam (but why would he panic if he’s a genius though…) anyways, let me make this clear, even the IIT-Jee exam isn’t about intelligence anymore…(yes I said it ISN’T to those rubbing their eyes) It’s about how clever you are. It’s not the art of doing questions; it’s the art of picking out the easy ones and doing them. That is the most important thing while giving an exam.

5)      By now many of you must be thinking that this guy is spewing out crap and he won’t give us anything to study, for those people, I’ll fill their stomachs as well. Remember, this the most UNIMPORTANT point of all, the guys over at 100percentile.com(Click HERE ) offer a foundation course online test series programme( but i’m not sure if the’re offering it this year, check it out, maybe they are). I hear it’s quite good and after looking at some of the questions afterwards I realized that the questions were of an appreciable level, meaning they were at par with the entrance (they should be, they are in partnership with VMC itself). The course isn’t that expensive either, I think it’s around 600-700 bucks (INR). That would be a very good guide as to the difference between your school syllabus and the VM entrance level.

Those were some pointers on what to study before the VM exam and in short it’s this-

Your NCERT text book, how to become as abominably confident in yourself s possible, do what you want to do, and if you still want to you could go for the 100percentile.com course as well.

As promised, I’m going to help you in your quests to become the next VMCian or an IITian as a whole, but before we embark upon that journey, we have to realize the MAJOR drawbacks in our educational system(Aka the Indian Educational System). Now I’ll be open and say it that the current basic educational system in our country is screwed up to the point of stupidity. It is safe to say CBSE(Central Board of Secondary Education) and NCERT(Who the f*ck cares what their Full forms are) have provided us with a syllabus that even Russia(aka Socialist) would be proud of, “everyone is equal and thus, no-one will fail a grade because we will make sure no-matter how bad he/she is at anything”. So I’ll introduce everything in the form of points…

(Warning: Mass Sarcasm Alert! If you are squeamish about it, or don’t understand what it is, just read the headings and keep in mind no matter how nice they sound, they’re not nice at all)

Point Number 1 –

EDUCATION FOR EVERYONE (meaning that you ain’t better than anyone else bozo!)

Yup, as the sarcastic sub-heading says, according to CBSE, knowledge is supposed to be for everyone. Now I don’t doubt that the board had Cough* Good Cough* intentions in mind when they went about supposedly simplifying the syllabus so that everyone can understand it( Yup….if you can’t, check in to the nearest Mental Health Care center). Unfortunately, they simplified it so much that there isn’t actually anything much left for anyone to gauge a person’s mental level or academic prowess. In my Opinion the CBSE should change their motto to “No matter how bad you may do, you will never fail”. Will anyone tell me that why in the world did they not even mention a thing called “Logarithms” in 12 years worth of schooling, or how many times in their textbooks have they written “we will study this in higher classes”, well sir, I think I’ve run out of classes for that topic, or maybe you’ve planned on keeping me a year longer? , but you can’t do that because I can’t fail…:(, or maybe you’ve planned to start a thirteenth grade! Or maybe not, so I’ll go ahead and say that anyone who sticks to the CBSE/School syllabus for their career can kiss the green Good-Bye!

Verdict-

CBSE – “-10 out of 10” (yeah, and you thought I couldn’t go below zero)

NCERT – “2 out of 10” (Well, at least the physics text-book has some tiny saving graces in it)

Point Number 2 –

HIGH MARKS IN YOUR BOARD’s/SAT’s (meaning that no matter how high you score, no-one will care how much you score because those marks aren’t worth sh*t…)

In the western world, the SAT’s( or boards in our case) determine what college we deserve(or don’t deserve but get anyway…). Here, the board’s determine our Date of Birth, yup, don’t be surprised…the Board Certificate is nothing else but a material proof that you were actually born, meaning that in a government post, the other person can’t hire you if you don’t have the certificate-

Here’s an actual conversation –

(It was in Hindi, but I’ve translated it to English)

Q -“Please show me your board exam certificate”

A -“but  don’t have it, why do you need it”

Q -“I need proof that you were born sir”

A -“But I’m right here, what’s the point in asking whether I was born or not? I’ve shown you my driver’s license  etc …blah…blah…”

Q -“But that doesn’t prove that you were born sir”

A -“?????”

Q -“I’ve been told never to believe a person about his birth without his Board certificate”

So by now you must’ve had a hearty laugh eh?, don’t… welcome to reality.

(P.S. – the authenticity of the above article is disputed but I’ll go along with it anyways since it aptly describes the scewedup-ness of the system ;-))

My Verdict-

BOARD EXAM’s/SAT’s

Marks – “-5 out of 10”

Result – PHAIL!(yeah! i spelt that correctly)

Point Number 3-

Super-qualified Staff and our ever trusted Government Schools…(Meaning’ that sarcasm is really funny…)

If you’re an Indian then you probably know that the old, run down, deserted  shack at the corner is a superb attempt by our  government to run a school, where the register is completely filled with names which never appear, and the “Teacher” doesn’t know where the building is . Since I believe that most of you who are reading this are actually in a private school or at least a privately owned govt. funded school, you already know the reason why you aren’t in a govt. school, so I’ll skip the whole rant about the failure of the infrastructure and get straight to the part about unqualified( or at least incapable staff…)

This topic maybe questionable but I’ll out up my front here, I studied in the top school in my area widely regarded as one of the best of the region if not THE best. But as far as I know, that reputation is bloated out of proportions…Sure! They’ll get you Brilliant marks in your Boards… but otherwise…nope. Yu don’t know how much I’d like to tell you about my 8^th grade science teacher who decided to not notice me and my question. Lol…you’d think that they’d have a talk with me or something, but actually starting to ignore a question in such an Obvious way just because you don’t seem to understand the question let alone the answer is quite stupid in my book. Or how about my 11^th grade physics teacher who on the first day taught me a thing about calculus which would have left the creator itself amazed, just have a look at this…

I had to get up in class and tell him that calculus isn’t division sir…

And how about the chemistry teacher who told me that sub-shells are present inside orbitals… oh I could go on and on and on…but there have been some good ones out there, and I’ve met many who are extremely capable and in fact, the real “Teachers” in this world.

So here’s my

VERDICT-

Government School System – “0 out of 10”

Result – Phail!

Staff – “5 out of 10”

Result – “Fair”

Point Number 4-

A Very Relevant Curriculum in our Daily Lives (I won’t even care to write the meaning)

Wait…I already talked about his…

Yeah…I as an engineering student in the 21^st century speak in Sanskrit everyday because its sooo relevant in our daily lives….

I write 1000 word essays to the English newspaper in Hindi over corny topics like “How do we save the environment” or “Why all sexual references in all media leading to the loss of our cultural values”

WTF!… How do we save the environment???? We LISTEN to AL GORE!!…finished.

How  all sexual references in all media are leading to the loss of our cultural values???

By teaching us about the cons of letting our zips loose and getting teens pregnant, by telling us the contraception isn’t a word to laughed at, by telling us that Child marriages are only done by Bastardish parents who don’t have an Iota of sensibility. By telling us that people affected by HIV/AIDS are people just like us…they are not untouchables…

I wrote all that I our school exams and I got a 2 out of a 10. Why? Because the teacher said that we had to write about not letting it appear, So much for freedom of opinion…

Well, after reading the above points, I’m pretty sure that I’ve made many enemies out of you (and these were only the first 4 that came to mind…), but I hope I’ve also been able to awaken some out of their slumber who can now start to prepare ahead. For you others who are helplessly wrapped in your false blankets of Patriotism and “India cannot be like this….”

I mean no Ill, I DID start this blog to let people know which the right track to follow is, but in the end as Morpheus said “I can only show you the door, you are the one who has to walk through it…”

So I’ll say it again, if you depend on your school system to get you into an IIT, forget it…either go for coaching classes(ANY coaching would be better than your school syllabus), or study yourself. I’d say a combination of the two does the trick, though I do have a personal motto which I think is very dependable

“The Best Person who can teach me…is ME” (Yeah…I came up with that myself…will have to goggle it to find out if I was the first one to think it…)

So Tata for now, next time I’ll be posting the correct study methods and what/how/when to study to get into your preferred coaching classes…

To start off, my name is Harshyt Goel, and as the title suggests, i’m a regular batch student of the coveted Vidyamandir Classes(abbreviated to VMC) for IIT-Jee Preparation. Since getting admission here is regarded as pretty hard to get into, so i thought i’d start this blog, to let everyone know what you have to do and necessarily donot have to do, to get yourself in shape so as to get(and deserve) admission.

Now you may notice that i talk in a way that says that VM is a privelidge instead of a right, well….the reason for that is that it is…lol. I must admit before i got in here i was amazed by their reputation and had heard they had their own  style of teaching. And i’m happy to say that i wasn’t dissapointed one bit. The approach to their teaching is exemplary of how it should be, meaning, we learn everything as if we created it. I mean, “Newton’s laws of Motion”??…Na, it’s “Harshyt’s Laws of motion”. Really, having experienced their system of teaching makes me believe that theirs absolutely no way that i won’t clear the JEE with a great rank. And i firmly believe that their style of teaching is way way..more superior to that followed in as per example bansal classes, Sweat slog shops(It’s only an opinion, no offence meant to bansal students at all, after all, some of my Best friends are there ;-)).But really, i shouldn’t be saying this, you should experience it for yourself. The reason, i made this blog now was that i noticed after my last class that the admission forms were about be given out.

(P.S.- A quick tip as i leave, the CBSE board sucks…never consider your performance based on ur F*CKED up Board scores because they DONT mean a thing, if you scored high in ur boards, it doesn’t mean that you’re smart, it just means that you wasted a lot of time memorising junk, with no payback whatsoever. Wethter if you REALLY are capable, it is to be seen, but believe me, Those Shitty Exams aren’t worth a penny. I’ll elaborate a lot over this topic as it’s extremely VITAL in your JEE Preparation. Lol, i scored 96.4% in them and i didn’t study a bit, how?, i don’t care, it would have been the same if it had been 69.4%, really, they don’t mean a thing, trust me)
