Federated Mountain Clubs Youth Scholarships

Hi All,

Federated Mountain Clubs (FMC) will be awarding Youth Scholarships for the first time in 2011. Members of its affiliated clubs are allowed to apply.

FMC newsletter on the scholarships scheme. The purpose of the scheme is
to encourage people to lead trips for their member clubs and to generally take leadership in
encouraging other young people in the outdoors.

AUTC's Annual Posh Dinner- where the dinner costs less than the bowtie! The basic idea behind this is that we dress up flash and proceed to enjoy a well, rather less-flash meal :-). It's always a fun night!

Pirongia Bush Bash

Hiya trampers

I'm planning a bit of a bushbash through Pirongia (quite separate from my previous advertised Pirongia trip) from Monday through Wednesday, September 6-8. There will be a moderate amount of navigation involved, and one very long day of uphill offtrack slog. If you are interested in this trip, you need to have a high level of fitness and some experience tramping.

A social science research project entitled “Kiwi Trampers and the New Zealand Bush” will inquire into the relationship between hikers and nature in New Zealand. We are particularly interested in the appeal of the New Zealand mountains and bush to New Zealand trampers and would like to better understand trampers’ views on the New Zealand bush.
