Psalms 16:11 "Thou wilt show me the path of life; in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures forevermore."
We haven’t always been able to put ourselves on the same
page with the word peculiar. (And we
definitely haven’t always wanted to!) We
grew up in the same small town and even went to the same elementary school. My sophomore year of high school, we started
dating. Our relationship survived a
couple of rough spots and we got married the summer after I finished
college. Although our religious
upbringings stemmed from two very different faiths, I felt that this wonderful
man was who God had prepared for me to marry.
We talked about religion, but that usually ended up in disagreements, so
I put my faith in the Lord, that he would work this very important difference
out.
After we were married, we focused on our jobs and ourselves
(like most young couples do!) We were
working to buy our first house, we wanted to drive nicer cars, we went out to
eat more than we ate at home, we were out with friends most weekend nights and
because of that, church wasn’t a consistent event for us, we were living the
life that our society would say new couples should live. Everything changed one spring evening. We found out that we were going to be blessed
with our first child. We had no idea how
much this would change our lives! Not
only were we bringing a tiny person into our home, but the Lord would use this
wonderful blessing to turn our lives onto the path that he needed us to be
on.
After she was born, we knew that we needed to stop avoiding
our religious differences and get on the same page spiritually. After some prayer and searching, the Lord
began to move in our lives and the day that our second child was blessed, my
husband was also baptized. Our children
were the beginning of a wonderful journey that the Lord has taken us on to be
the people that he needs for us to be.
Where are you at in your peculiar journey? I’d love to hear your story too! Please comment below....
