As we welcome today the arrival of the first noble March morning sunrise, coating the ground with it's gaze, take note also of the few white remnants of Winter's mark. Cursed from their birth as heralds of the cold, let us not forget that it is the snowflake that dazzles us with it's death-defying descents, kisses us upon our unsuspecting noses, & then disappears in a wink, without remembrance.

So get out there, good citizens!! Grab a hold of these last vestiges of winter months, roll their crystalline beauty into one last snowball, and hurl them into the air!

Do it now, for the snowflake is far too fair for the trials of Spring.

While we may not show it so overtly, we at the Acreage do have a might bit of Scottish heritage amongst us. Thus, we proudly salute, with one hand on our whisky, t'other on a sweet, wee heavy:

As always, we like to say hello to our good mothers & fathers around this time.

Thus, please make note that Six Acres will be closed on Saturday December 24th & Sunday December 25th so we can open presents & tickle kittens.

We will also be closed this year on New Year's Eve, Saturday December 31th, so that we can open champagne & tickle our friends.

The first day of January, 1917: a cold & fearful day in the trapezoidal province of Saskatchewan. It is this fateful day, after two years of having alcohol sales prohibited at any non-government establishments, that all liquor consumption & sales are halted completely throughout the wheaten lands.

Fortunately for wanting imbibers, the law of prohibition contained no clause against the pioneering spirit. One huge network of tunnels later, dug under the humble burg of Moose Jaw, and Saskatchewan becomes the centre for all who sought the casual pleasure of libation. Underground speakeasies provided carbonated brews & drinks to keep your upper lip stiff.

And so no one saw the light of day until 1924, when those fair prairie folk realized outlawing delicious porters, scrumptious hefeweizens, elegant lagers, & smooth lambics was downright crazy! Phew!

Ya huh, ya huh!!

Brasserie de Blaugies does us a solid, shipping some of it's delightful Saison D'Epeautre!! This ain't just your run of the mill Saison either. Nope, nope. As the name suggests, this tart lil' number harkens back to simpler more medieval times, using both barley & spelt (epeautre) in the mash!! Whoa, neat.

Result? One hecka bubbly & refreshing beer with some ancient wisdom under it's cap.

Well, I suppose that it is about time we let the cat out of the bag. After a week of having folk being met with the pleasant surprise of seeing a bottle of rare, hoppy goodness on the shelf, it is time to put out the word...

Driftwood's seasonal Sartori Harvest IPA is at the Acres!!
In our opinion, and many others, Sartori is one of the most delicious and desirable offerings from the exceptional brewery.

Jason Meyer, Kevin Hearsum, & co. always bring a beer with impeccable balance; here, the floral/citric fresh hops meet marmalade malt sweetness to create flavours nothing short of devine. With the rich, velvety feel on the palate & glowing copper colour, there is really nothing more to ask for (except maybe a few more bottles).

"This wet hopped IPA can only be brewed once a year, immediately following the hop harvest, when fresh wet hops are spirited from the farm to our brew kettle. The 2011 version features Centennial hops from the Sartori Cedar Ranch and local malted barley from Vancouver Island artisan maltster Mike Doehnel, making this a true BC harvest ale!"
