Volunteer drivers needed!

Imagine needing to cancel a medical appointment because you can’t get to your doctor. Or imagine having to take days off from work to drive an aging relative or friend to their appointments. You can be the solution.

Aging Services for Communities (ASC) www.aging-services.org is seeking volunteer drivers in Northfield and the surrounding area to transport riders to medical and dental appointments.
• Experience the joy of helping others in need!
Volunteers provide transportation in their personal vehicles. Riders are able to walk to and from their appointments. Transportation needs are both local and long distance (Twin cities, Rochester)

• Enjoy a little cash flow!
ASC reimburses drivers at a rate of $.55½ per mile. This easily covers the expenses of gas and wear-and tear. The reimbursement is not considered income by the IRS and does not affect you Social Security or unemployment benefits.

Habitat for Humanity

Looking for volunteers in many areas, from serving on a committee or board to picking up a hammer. Any skill level is appreciated from the licensed contractor, or those willing to learn. Also needed is hospitality to greeting on the site to the cookie baker or those willing to help with social media.

Will be doing two builds in 2013, locations are Dundas and Faribault.
Also have volunteer opportunities at our Lonsdale Warehouse.

Provide a Monthly Meal to Families with Children with Special Needs

Laura Baker Services Association would like to invite you to be a part of our Family Support Services program by providing regular meal assistance to a family with children who have special needs. This is also a substantial form of respite for a family, where preparing meals and attending to the special needs of children who have developmental disabilities is no easy task.

We’d like volunteers to provide ready-made meals on a regular basis, about once a month. We’ll coordinate recurring days and times, so helping in this way can consistently fit into everyone’s schedule.

This is a great way to get involved in helping families with children who have special needs!

Mentor girls grades K-5 through a Northfield Community Girl Scout Troop!

Our Northfield Regional Community troop will meet the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6pm-7:30pm. Regional community troops serve girls in grades K-5, meet in a public location, are open to drop-ins and are led by a team of caring volunteers. Help girls Discover, Connect and Take Action by guiding them through the Girl Scout experience. Training and curriculum is provided.

Our caring leaders/adult volunteers provide opportunities for girls to:
•Build decision-making and leadership skills
•Develop healthy self-esteem
•Make new friends and build relationships
•Pursue interests through program activities
•Take action in their communities
•Build outdoor awareness
•Learn career and financial literacy skills
•Build STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) skills

Care Center Gift Shop Volunteer

Residents, Staff and Visitors lack the opportunity to shop in their fun little Care Center gift shop because we don’t currently have volunteers to keep the door open! With the holidays coming up we definitely need to give shoppers the chance to shop! Do you have 2 or 3 hours a week that you would be willing to commit? Any day including weekends, any hours somewhere between 9:00 am – 5:00 pm (except for our covered Monday 9-1 hours).

Small groups needed to help with buckthorn removal in Lashbrook Park this fall

Volunteers are needed to help remove buckthorn from Lashbrook Park this fall. Friends of Lashbrook Park will instruct and assist you as needed. Dates/times are flexible. Interested? Contact Lola Fick #645-4888.

This is a very rewarding outdoor fall volunteer opportunity.

Volunteers are advised to dress according to weather and to wear long pants and long sleeves, with sturdy shoes. Gloves are very helpful. Bring pruning and lopping tools if you have them..

Habitat for Humanity BLITZ BUILD Dundas on Saturday, August 18

Rice County Habitat for Humanity invites you to sign up for a Blitz Build Day on Saturday, August 18, at our Dundas site (130 Miller Lane). We’re looking for a total of sixty volunteers – twenty volunteers for each of the following shifts: 7 a.m. – 11 a.m.; 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.; and 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. We’re also looking for people willing to bring meals for each of those shifts. This will be an exciting day where we’ll really see the progress of the build. Sign up individually, or form a group of friends, co-workers or family. Must be at least 18 years old to be on the site. Families with younger children could think about making a meal and bringing it to the site for the volunteers.

Childcare Volunteer for HealthFinders Collaborative (2 evenings/month in Dundas)

Job: Childcare Volunteer

Job Description: Provide a safe environment for children while their parents attend clinic appointments and classes at HealthFinders. Volunteers are also invited to develop and carry out age-appropriate activities targeted towards health promotion. The church (Little Prairie United Methodist Church) where HealthFinders holds classes and clinic nights has a childcare area with toys and places to work on crafts and other projects. Parents of children are on site at all times.

Qualifications:

High school or college student
Ability to work independently
Ability to work and communicate (creatively!) with parents and children who do not speak English and are from diverse ethnic backgrounds
Comfortable working with children of all ages (2 – 16)
Ability to be flexible and responsive to month-by-month needs of the clinic
Ability to arrange own transportation to clinic site
Demonstrated ability to commit to volunteer duty.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Maintaining a safe environment for children
Creating and carrying out activities for pre-school and school-age children oriented towards promoting healthy lifestyles
Caring for children from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. or until last child goes home
Cleaning up childcare area after children leave

Commitment:
The volunteer will commit to one semester’s worth (Fall, Spring and/or Summer) of diabetes class nights (2 evenings/month; usually the third Thursday and fourth Tuesday). There is also the opportunity to provide childcare on other evenings if multiple volunteers are interested.

English to Spanish translation of a Spay /Neuter Letter

I am helping to organize a spay/neuter clinic for lower income pet owners (and also to help sterilize feral cats in this same neighborhoods). I have a set of instructions for pet owners that I need translated from English to Spanish. It is just one page but is pretty comprehensive.

We also may need volunteers to assist us in spreading the word in a couple specific apartment home and mobile home parks. I will post more about that when we have an exact date for the clinic. Feel free to contact me if you are interested in helping.
