Update about the missing pictures

Okay folks - I know it has been frustrating to visit 50000 Free Wallpapers & encounter so many pages where the pictures have gone missing. The image host had a major storage device failure & pictures uploaded since May this year weren't recoverable.

So I've decided to host the wallpapers on my own site, and have started the process of getting the images online, starting with the galleries which have been most affected by the storage failure. My host allows me 120 gigabytes of storage, which should easily hold my entire wallpaper collection. If it doesn't, it will cost me only a couple of dollars more each month to increase my storage to 250 GB.

What I have also decided to do is bring all wallpaper resolutions back under the one domain, www.50000freewallpapers.com.

Regarding the format of the new site, I had a look at a lot of content management systems (CMS) and website gallery software, as the CMS I was using before was not suited to automatic gallery creation. I decided not to use a database such as MySQL as I have had some bad experiences in the past, and prefer to keep things as simple as possible. So I went with a great little PHP-based gallery program called yappa-ng. It does what I need it to do with a minimum of fuss, is very fast, and adding galleries/pictures can be done using an upload page or via FTP (which I am using to get my galleries online quickly).

The new site doesn't look very pretty at the moment - just the default template with a couple of small modifications. Site cosmetics can wait until after I get the content online, and the site is quite easy to navigate as-is.

In the next few days I'll be updating the pages on my old sites where ever the galleries have been placed on the new site. Hopefully everything should be done well before Christmas! (By the way, all of my Christmas standard & widescreen wallpapers are now on the new site: 50000 Free Wallpapers - Christmas Wallpapers).

Anyway, thanks for being so patient. Although I don't have any real complaints against my old image host, I think my site just got too big to rely on a 3rd-party to store pictures. Also, having entire galleries deleted if just one image inadvertently breached copyright was becoming frustrating, as I had no way of knowing which pic offended. Now the control over that lies entirely with me.

I have also been able to upload pictures which show a bit more skin than my old host allowed, including non-explicit nudity (including the latest Vanessa Hudgens nude & topless photos - and I also made wallpapers out of them). A password needs to be entered to access the NSFW galleries, but you won't have any problems locating the password on the site.

Again, apologies for the missing pictures, and thank-you for your patience while I get the pictures back online.
